DNC files under FOIA to see Mitt E-mails that were deleted

The Democratic National Committee has filed a freedom of information (FOIA) request with the office of the governor of Massachusetts in an effort to uncover whether staff destroyed information before Mitt Romney left office. 

I donÂ’t think the FOIA was designed to give out information on a possible criminal act. Of course if you donÂ’t intend to call it a criminal act you can give out the deleted e-mails. Hahahahaha. HereÂ’s nuttinÂ’ you bums, theyÂ’re deleted.  But, anyone who knows about corporate IT knows that e-mails and other such stuff stored on corporate networks are never permanently deleted.

Romney says SCOTUS will strike down Obamacare

The Romney people keep harping that he says he will repeal Obamacare as his first priority. Anyone who can count past 60 knows that neither he, nor any of the other candidates, will be able to do that. First off the President can’t repeal anything. He can only approve or veto bills sent to him by Congress. Congress will includes a Senate in which the Republicans will have a bare majority, probably in the just above 50 range. In short, unless the Republicans use the “nuclear option” it will never make it out of the Senate. Republicans will not use the nuclear option.

Our only chance to get rid of the POS law is SCOTUS unless we have an earthquake in the election. But facing realism, there will be no taking the Senate by more than 60. Republicans havenÂ’t held a more than 60 majority in the Senate since the 1890s and will not hold one in 2013.

Attacks on eye of Newt gearing up from the MFM now

A think tank founded by GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich collected at least $37 million over the past eight years from major health-care companies and industry groups, offering special access to the former House speaker and other perks, according to records and interviews.

They will not stomach anyone not Romney at the front of the pack.  This is the tip of the iceberg for any Republican AFTER the nomination.  However, this just shows Newtie is not the conservative he is touted to be.  30 sec sound bites are not a good showing of a candidate.

But it is not just Newt, he is but an example of the corruption and rotten dealings that go on in Washington, especially for those that rise up to the top like SOTH. The founders went to great lengths to make sure that the United States had no “nobility” in the government. But over the years and decades we have built our own nobility, even to the point in some cases now where political families pass down their legacies to children.

Indeed it appears that this type of wanton corruption can not be stopped. Voters have been bought with bread and circuses (as the old cliché goes). We have entrenched socialists and communists controlling all the large urban areas and entire States. On the rare occasion when a Statewide politician is singled out to be caught by the press the voters yawn and exclaim “everybody does it” and either vote them back in or another one from the same Party just like him.

The founders knew that with massive government came massive corruption and the stifling of liberty for the average person. That is why the Constitution limited the powers of the federal government.  But the federalists didnÂ’t like that and immediately set to increase the power. FDR made sure that it was dead in buried in the 30s and his legacy was a Supreme Court that guaranteed it for centuries after he was dead.

People, pray for a Japanese airliner during the next joint session. That appears to be the only way to save the real Republic before the massive collapse.

I m posting this because once on my way to Reno up highway 80 looking at the country side at some of the famous ski areas I noticed something remarkable. It was Summertime with no snow. There were no slopes to ski on. It was all cliffs. If you fell off of one of those slopes in the Summer it would most likely kill you.

I don't think so. There are 33 seats up for grabs with quite a few Dems retiring. However, a lot of these are in hard core blue States which are unlikely to turn over. I think at best we will pick up between 6 and 8 of the Dem seats (and that is a huge gain). We are likely to lose Scott Brown's seat in MA. That will give a net of between 5 and 7. 7 pick ups would give us 54. And that is the "best" we can do.

Most likely we will wind up with a bare majority of 51 or 52. When you throw in the RINOs and DIABLOS that is not a lot of help.

Remember what is going to happen January 1st, 2013.  The Bush tax cuts will expire.  By the time a GOP prez is sworn in on Jan 20, the new tax code will have to start being implemented.

There could be a fight like you haven't seen before getting those tax cuts put back.  I think repeal of Obamacare will be tied to new tax cuts and Dems will be under a lot of pressure not to block it.

Well, it was due to the stuttering clusterfuckery that we have here in Missouri.

Originally, Missouri had a primary, and they moved theirs up to early February so that it could be, you know, actually relevant.

But, national GOP slapped them, saying that they had to move the primary back to March or else lose half its delegates.

So, there was a bill introduced in our recent special session to move the primary to March.

But, it was a part of the same bill that had this bullshit "economic development" stuff in it (i.e., handouts to biz to turn part of St. Louis' airport into an economic development zone, or something).  That bill was not approved.  So neither did the bill to move the primary.

So the state GOP just decided on its own that there would be caucuses in March.  But the law as it is currently written says we will have a primary in February.  But apparently that vote, if it even takes place, won't mean anything.

So yeah it's all fucked up.

Our moron governor constantly brags about how we send 2/3 of high schools graduates to some form of higher ed.  He somehow fails to mention that over 50% of them need remediation in one  or more subjects when they get there and that our graduation rate is abysmally low.  In his mind, the only problem is that there is just not enough money for higher ed even though we have a scholarship that any student can qualify for with an ACT score that's less than the state average.

We went through a whole spiel with him on why his private parts are private, that no one should EVER touch them unless he needs help in the bathroom- and even then he has a very short list of who's even allowed to help him with potty issues. It was an uncomfortable conversation because he kept asking why and since he's kinda too young for me to be terrifying him with the whole molestation thing it was hard explaining it to him in a way that would scare him to death. He's such a friendly, outgoing kid and I don't want to make him afraid of the world, but at the same time want him to be prepared just in case. It's a weird balance to strike at this age.

Wasn't it balanced by counting the money they were stealing from Social Security as revenue, but weren't counting the money they needed to pay it back as expenditures.  So basically saying that your credit card limit is part of your income.

It says all have been released already except a few that are specifically mentioned in the Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992. If you look at the act it appears that these are all matter that pertain to intelligence gathering.

Whenever I watch media coverage of another Occupy Wall Street event I am reminded of an exchange between Jewish protesters in the 1979 Monte Python movie Life of Brian. One of the protesters asks another what the Romans have brought to the area and the conversation goes like this:

Question: All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Answer: Brought peace?
Response: Oh, peace - shut up!

The point is that the Roman institutions brought a good deal to the area that was being overlooked by the protesters. The Wall Street protesters, in their hatred of capitalism, overlook things including the fact that over the last 100 years capitalism has reduced poverty more and increased life expectancy more than in the 100,000 years prior. 

Every so often I ask my friends at the local pub: "What would you rather be? King of England in 1263 or you?" Turns out, people would rather be themselves. They enjoy using their iPhone, indoor plumbing, central heating, refrigerators and electric lighting. All of these things are available to the average person in America today and none of them were available to the aristocracy when the West operated under the feudal system.
 
How is it that for thousands of years mankind made very little progress in increasing the standard of living and yet today half of the goods and services you use in the next week did not exist when I was born? It wasn't that there was some change in the DNA such that we got smarter. The Greeks knew how to make a steam engine 3,000 years ago and never made one. The difference is in how we organize our economic system. The advent of market capitalism in the mid 18th century made all of the difference.

We need not just rely on historical data. Look at cross-section evidence. I try another experiment with my students. I tell them they are about to be born and they can choose whatever country in the world they would like to be born in. The only caveat is they will be the poorest person in that country. Every student picks a country that is primarily organized in a market capitalist system. No one picks a centrally planned state. No one says, "I want to be the poorest person in North Korea, Cuba, or Zimbabwe," countries which are at the bottom of the Heritage Foundation's Index of Economic Freedom.
 
What does it mean to be poor in our capitalist society that the Occupy Wall Street crowd so hates? Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation has several studies of those classified as poor by the U.S. Census Bureau. He found that 80 percent of poor persons in the United States in 2010 had air conditioning, nearly three quarters of them had a car or truck, nearly two-thirds had satellite or cable television, half had a personal computer and more than two-thirds had at least two rooms per person.
 
Contrast this with what it means to be poor in Mumbai, India, a country that is moving rapidly towards market capitalism but was burdened for decades with a socialist system. A recent story in The Economist described Dharavi, a slum in Mumbai, where for many families half of the family members must sleep on their sides in order for the entire family to squeeze into its living space.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has shown a lack of understanding of how the market capitalist system works. They appear to think that the cell phones they use, food they eat, hotels they stay in, cars they drive, gasoline that powers the cars they drive and all the myriad goods and services they consume every day would be there under a different system, perhaps in more abundance.

But there is no evidence this could be or ever has been the case. The reason is that only market capitalism solves the two major problems that face any economy-how to provide an incentive to innovate and how to solve the problem of decentralized information. The reason there is so much innovation in a market system compared to socialism or other forms of central planning is that profit provides the incentive for innovators to take the risk needed to come up with new products.
 
My mother never once complained that we did not have access to the latest Soviet washing machine. We never desired a new Soviet car. The socialist system relies on what Adam Smith referred to as the benevolent butcher and while there will undoubtedly be benevolent butchers out there, clearly a system that provides monetary rewards for innovators is much more dynamic and successful. The profit that the Occupy Wall Street protesters decry is the reason the world has access to clean water and anti-viral drugs.

The other major problem that must be solved by any economic system is how to deal with the fact that information is so decentralized. There is no way for a central planner to know how many hot dogs 300 million Americans are going to want at every moment in time. A central planner cannot know the relative value of resources in the production of various goods and services. Market capitalism solves that problem through the price system. If there are too few hot dogs, the price of hot dogs will rise and more hot dogs will be produced. If too many hot dogs are produced, the price of hot dogs will fall and fewer will be produced.
 
Market capitalism is the key to the wealth of the masses. As Ludwig von Mises wrote in his 1920 book, Socialism, only market capitalism can make the poor wealthy. Nobel Laureate Friedrich Hayek in his famous 1945 paper, The Use of Knowledge in Society, showed that only the price system in capitalism can create the spontaneous order that ensures that goods will be allocated in a way that ensures consumers determine the use of resources. The Occupy Wall Street movement would make best use of its time and energy in protesting the encroachment of the centrally planned state that led to the disaster of the Soviet Union, fascist Germany, and dictatorial North Korea and now the US Democrat Party and Barack Hussein Obama

And how sad is that, that the front-runner for both parties have essentially the same position on the most monumental legislation of the last 30 years.

And don't talk to me about the Courts. Because if the Supreme Court upholds Obamacare, we have no Constitution left. Nominate conservative judges for what? The precedent has been set and the rules require they follow. The ultimate futile locking the barn door after the horse escapes.

No, we need a candidate who sees government as the problem not one who sees the problem as not having the right mix of conservatives and liberals. 

As others here have mentioned: With an Obama vs. Romney we get the choice between full socialism and full socialism just not as fast.

Vic, there's a big difference between a think tank taking money from industry to build policy positions and the government itself rewarding campaign contributors bogus contracts for bullshit work with money extracted from taxpayers by force of law.

Clinton came out in favor of the MFN renewal. Newt started to make some noise against. And I'm in my truck, listening to Rush, and I said to myself, "This is not a big deal, beat up on Mexico, extract a few concessions, get them to promise to improve their enforcement, which they will--because they need MFN more than we do--and as a bonus, you get to beat Clinton again; setting the stage for beating him again and again. IF you don't, Clinton will know you aren't serious about anything and will realize that he can go to the press and beat you up on anything and you will cave."

Well, what happened?

Newt caved. Couldn't handle the Clinton media pressure. Got nothing out of Mexico and gave them MFN renewal with a whimper.

And the government shut-down came. Clinton ran the same play, went to the media. And Newt caved.

And then impeachment. Same play, same players, same guy caved again.

THAT'S what we get with Newt: All talk, no action, utter capitulation in the end.

307 I Should go to Detroit, build a big house and start planting cotton. Will probably need a lot of labor, because it would be cost prohibitive to invest money in machinery when labor there is so plentiful and cheap.Also, it will probably have to be an all black labor force or Jesse Jackson will be all over my ass. 312 Hey rdbrewer, regarding those Google Earth coordinates - Castel del Monte wasn't used as a Name of the Rose filming site according to IMDB. The castle is way down in Puglia, but it doesn't look like they filmed anywhere south of Lazio (Rome).

It's still a pretty awesome fortification though.
