With the fate of collecting bargaining rights for public employees on the ballot in that key battleground, this is a major test to see if the president's vaunted get-out-the-vote operation from 2008 is still a well-oiled machine ready for 2012.

 

I donÂ’t recall his GOTV operation from 2008 being that good. Sure, the Dems numbers went up some in those key States that carried him but they had nowhere to go but up from the Kerry disaster. Also, it helped that a lot of new black voters went to the polls and a lot of conservatives stayed at home. Now that is the $64K question for 2012. Will the black voters turn out again and will the conservatives go to the polls?

 

Fox (TV) is saying that the OH union bill repeal is pretty much a done deal. All the polls are saying the unions will win. But this has NOTHING to do with Obama.

Perry's been quietly releasing policy statements and they sound pretty good. There was a link in the sidebar a few days ago. And as Cain implodes, I'm about ready to turn back towards Perry. At least there's no heat on him right now, which hopefully gives him and his team time to reorganize and clean out any skeletons in his closet.

Mitt is a Dim, AFAIC and would set conservatism back at least four years, which is strange, considering the link Drudge has up this morning saying that conservatives outnumber libtards by two to one. I don't trust a Tea Party Congress to keep him in check.

Of course, a dead frog is preferable to the stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure who currently has his hooves resting on the Resolute Desk.

I'm torn between the further damage this will do to the economy and the fact the a huge portion of the 53% will see their paychecks shrink while their cost of living expenses continue to rise. All while not shrinking the deficit.

Seriously though, we have let the press and the liberals redefine the language to such an extent that there is no common baseline of understanding between the politicians and the people! 

An revenue increase is not a tax increase, but both mean you will be able to keep even less of your money.  A kinetic military action is not a war, even though US forces expended thousand of man-hours, logged thousands of miles of equipment movements, and burned millions of tax dollars.  The government inflation rate calculation deliberately excludes food and energy costs and the unemployment rate calculation rate elements are continually tweaked.

To paraphrase, "The only certain things in life are Death, Taxes, and Lying Politicians!".

That's not what bugs me about The Newt. I know people say "oooh, he runs a think tank," "wow, he's such a Deep Conservative Thinker!" and "he writes books!!11!!" in advancing the idea that we need him as POTUS.

My impression of him is that he's a great talker, and not so much a doer. I mean, what has he actually done besides putting his name to the "Contract With America," a document that has ended up being roughly as important as a decades-old newspaper? Likewise, I think he is too deeply rooted in the crony politics of D.C., and when it came to a choice between doing something good for the American people or placating his pals in Congress, he'd favor his Congressional buddyroos.

Those are not reason to stay away from him in the general. Just the primaries. He gets the nomination, he has my support.

But I prefer Perry and Cain right now.

Yes, that was a major hit. That bill is actually worse than the healthcare bill as far as impact on the nation goes. But even at that, it is not the only issue he has.

re: Erickson...I've noticed that since he's become moderately well known, the number of rather dumb things coming from him has gone way up. Do you have to sign some sort of agreement to say more stupid stuff - some sort of minimum stupidity quota - to get regular gigs on cable news networks? I guess that's probably a rhetorical question...99% of them wouldn't need a signed agreement.

Today is Election Day in MS for state candidates. Phil Bryant (R) is +14 in the last poll and is expected to win the governorship; turnout should be decent as there are 3 hot ballot initiatives to amend the state constitution:
 
Initiative 26 is an effort to criminalize all abortions by defining 'life begins at conception/fertilization'; this amendment could be used to also criminalize various birth control pills, IVF procedures and even life saving treatments for pregnant women at any stage in her term. Just what we need, another entire criminal class of citizens to prosecute and destroy. I'm voting against this idiocy.
 
Initiative 27 will require people to show photo ID to vote. This should reduce voter fraud and it has plenty of provisions in it to protect the right to vote for people with unusual situations. I'm for it.
 
Initiative 31 will block state government from using eminent domain to take private property to transfer to another person or corporation. You bet I'm for it. Screw Kelo and the SC.

I don't think so.  I think those turnout numbers are going to be a lot lower in 2012 than in 2008. But you can not measure potential turnout with polls. His approval ratings may indicate that somewhat, but even that is not reliable.

There was no one there. No sign-wavers, no union reps, no line. And the weather is nice. If the rest of Ohio is similar, Issue 2 may have a chance, despite the forest of yard signs. Asteroids: the GOP's great hope.

  Tired of the whole sorry business regarding Cain. My take is that there is a predisposition toward the behavior shown, someone caught this and ran with it. The responses have been fumbling and ineffectual, that you can't deny.

  I believe the support for Cain stems from years of vilifying Repubs for any offense. real or imagined, by the left. People apparently have had enough, hence the groundswell of support for the man.

  Sarah was always my choice, but since she isn't running. Perry is the fallback. His positions, for the most part fall in line with my preferences. So my support will go to him unless he falls by the way.

 I'll vote Romney, if there's no alternative--if someone lets me bring a puke bucket into the booth. Problem I see with him is the perceived apathy among voters. If that depresses the GOTV, then here is your disaster, because without an ironclad majority in both House and Senate, nothing good can be achieved, regardless of who prevails.

I really think he won the last fight he had with Ali.  At the beginning of the last round, Ali was heard by his trainers to say that he wanted to quit, and that he felt like he was dying.  Contrarily, when Frazier was in his corner they looked at his eye and told him they would not allow him to go back out, despite the fact that he begged them to let him finish the fight.  If Frazier's corner had only been within earshot of Ali when he said he was quitting, boxing history likely would have been changed, and Frazier could be regarded as the greatest today.
