Good Morning Morons. Today marks the beginning of Halcyon Days
Does that mean that this time of Doom will be looked upon as “the good old days of yore”? I doubt it. This term didn’t originate to be the “good old days” as popular culture now labels it. It comes from Greek mythology. It is the 7 days in Winter when storms never occur. Well we don’t have any “storms” predicted in the next 10 days. Anyway, on to the news doom soon to be followed by the Monty Financial Doom and those Halcyon Days will be back to the weather.

House unveils latest Boner “deal” - $1T spending bill - conservatives lose again
Not only are we increasing spending over last year butÂ….
Environmentalists scored clear wins in stopping virtually every significant GOP initiative to roll back Environmental Protection Agency rules. Most importantly, industry forces seeking to block new greenhouse gas and clean air rules, as well as a new clean water regulation opposed by mountaintop removal mining interests, were denied.
WTF happened to the 2010 campaign promise Boner? So we are still fighting the bogus CO2 scam despite widespread evidence that it is outright fraud. And why is it going to the floor like this? They have negotiated behind closed doors a losing bill before the floor fight even begins.

Fox speculates that Corazine will go to jail
I have to throw the BS flag on part of this though:
While there were many more players culpable for the meltdown of the subprime mortgage market and though the subsequent financial crisis was much more devastating, nearly everyone was caught in the same great error – expecting housing prices to continue marching upwards. It was a colossal countrywide (so to speak) event, in which it is hard to single out a scapegoat.
No that is not the reason. The reason is the so-called investigation and subsequent bill was done by two of the people most responsible for the collapse, Dodd & Frank. They along with previous Demo-commies created the collapse and despite warnings of impending doom prevented any action from heading it off. When are you people in the media going to print this?

Obama nominates two more labor goons to NLRB
Obama picked Sharon Block, a deputy assistant secretary for congressional affairs at the Department of Labor and Richard Griffin, general counsel for the International Union of Operating Engineers, to join the panel.
Sharon Block, Nominee for
Member, National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
Sharon Block is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for
Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor. Between 2006 and
2009, Ms. Block was Senior Labor and Employment Counsel for the Senate HELP
Committee, where she worked for Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Ms. Block previously
served at the National Labor Relations Board as senior attorney to Chairman
Robert Battista from 2003 to 2006 and as an attorney in the appellate court
branch from 1996 to 2003. From 1994 to 1996, she was Assistant General
Counsel at the National Endowment for the Humanities, and from 1991 to 1993,
she was an associate at Steptoe & Johnson. She received a B.A. in
History from Columbia University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law
Center where she received the John F. Kennedy Labor Law Award.
Richard Griffin, Nominee for
Member, National Labor Relations Board
Richard Griffin is the General Counsel for
International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE). He also serves on the
board of directors for the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee, a position
he has held since 1994. Since 1983, he has held a number of leadership
positions with IUOE from Assistant House Counsel to Associate General
Counsel. From 1985 to 1994, Mr. Griffin served as a member of the
board of trustees of the IUOEÂ’s central pension fund. From 1981 to 1983,
he served as a Counsel to NLRB Board Members. Mr. Griffin holds a B.A.
from Yale University and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law.
Hopefully these will be blocked and the Senate will not allow more “recess appointments”.

I am not at ALL receptive to this, due to his total lack of speaking out on anything over the last 3 years.
Cannot help but think that he assumed that Obama would win a second term and were going to waltz in in 2016 and win. I think Barbara Bush's disdain for Palin was wrapped up in this idea.
So now, when Obama's unpopularity has not reversed itself, he realizes he might be missing the boat if he doesn't enter.
No.

Are US sports events becoming like European soccer?
It seems that in the past few months we have had a LOT of these kinds of fan violence. If the sports franchises do not want these events to be taken over by hooligans they are going to have to get the local courts and police to make a strong stand on this. If they donÂ’t it will only get worse.

Washington Examiner endorses Mutt
This is the kind of shit conservatives have to put up with. The Washington Examiner is the ONLY major paper that gives Republicans a voice and they endorse a RINO (and possibly even a DIABLO) because “he is the only on who can beat Obama”. Now where have I heard that BS “He is the only one who can beat --------- shit before”?

Although, I agree Newt canÂ’t win, but then again, despite BS polls, neither can Mutt. Polls donÂ’t measure voter turnout as we learned in 2010.

Bullshit outrage of the day from WI
Names such as Adolf Hitler and Mickey Mouse will be allowed on petitions to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), as long as they include a valid date and Wisconsin mailing address on the petition forms, a state election board ruled on Tuesday.
From the linked story
More than 540,000 signatures are required to trigger a recall of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. The recall petitions will not be data entered by state staff. It falls on Walker, or other independent groups, to discover fraudulent signatures among the tens of thousands of recall forms submitted. If the signatures of Mickey Mouse, Adolf Hitler, etc are then discovered, they can be contested, but they are given the presumption of legitimacy by the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board.
Note that the board is left over from appointments from the Democrats. My question what do they need the claimed money for? This board is corrupt and the governor doesnÂ’t need to spend Republican money on discovering fraud. He needs to go to court or explore methods of impeaching the members of this board.

Implications
The Ryan-Wyden proposal is a white paper to be presented at a conference; no related legislation will be drafted. Essentially, the point of the exercise is to advance the conversation on Medicare while exposing the Democrats. Some have taken this to be a betrayal of the House budget but there is no proof (as of yet) that this idea is a replacement.

Speaker John Boehner said Wednesday he remains committed to a "grand bargain" to cut the deficit while reforming entitlements and taxes — despite growing GOP unhappiness with his longtime push to cut a deal with President Barack Obama.
Despite being 'committed" we have yet to actually cut the budget if you define the budget as how much money they spend like normal people do.

MF Global matter turned over to Holder.
By Christopher Doering, Reuters:
At a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on Tuesday, CME Executive Chairman Terrence Duffy escalated the allegations, saying a CME auditor participated in a phone call during which an MF Global employee indicated that Corzine knew the firm used customer money to lend $175 million to its European affiliate. Duffy said the matter had been turned over to the Justice Department, but he did not provide more details about the loan.

Caught part of a rant by Levin yesterday. The theme was I call the "Establishment That Dare Not Speak Its Name". After seeing crap like this, I agree that there is an established group of good old "persons", all of whom (both R, I, & D) have a hand in the till, and are doing a great job of representing themselves first, and the rest of us if it is convenient.
Between Boner and Bitch, we have been screwed again. I had the fleeting hope that the House would forward a combined tax cut extension irrevocably tied to the pipeline, and that Bitch would force a vote so that w could talk about the "Do Nothing Democrat Senate" for a day or two. I was obviously off my meds in expecting real leadership and representation from the RINO/DIABLO establishment.

"Its all been planned in advance. We have advisors ready to go, already in place. It's time. The stars are now aligned."
Achmed stiffened at the code-phrase.
"It will be done as you say."
"Thank you, Achmed," said the soothing voice and then the call abruptly ended.
Achmed strode down the line of icy capsules to linger before capsule 7. He brushed away the frost from the nameplate. The Mastermind.
Muqtada al-Sadr will live again.

The GOP is planning to just let things slide until 2016.

I don't think they're organized enough to actually have that as a "plan" much less execute it as well as they have so far, but the end result may very well be the same as if they did.

Just read NRO "Winnowing the Field." Plenty of good points that are true and thus don't need refuting. Thought I would add a few more dynamics they didn't cover
-Mitt will lead by compromising with even radical leftists, just so long as something gets passed. (his whole record shows this same pattern)
-Mitts religion will, with help from the media, will spook I'm guessing 1-5% of the electorate.
-Newt may again implode on a personal level and become a liability rather then an asset.
-Newts infidelity may spook some 1 +/-% of voters. (would be more in a non-crisis year)
Newt is plainly an Ego guy. He is and likes being recognized as the smartest guy in the room and relishes proving it thus by winning arguments. If there is anything Republican presidents face a lot of its that.
So will vs may is how I see the white house race. The, IMO, more important senate race. An unenthusiastic base will wreck, more then anything else, our chances in taking back the Senate. Even if we a purple states in a presidential election we could still win Senate seats with good base turn out in red states. To me Newt is a equal then or greater then factor to the Senate. Mitt is a lesser then or equal to variable to base turnout for Senate races.
Anyway, that's how I see our paths before us.

Does the bill call for the immediate authorization to build thing? Does it abrogate the Executive branch powers/responsibilities to do endless studies?
The legislation directs Obama to issue a permit no later than sixty days after passage of the bill. He can refuse by meeting certain requirements, and failure to meet those standards mean the pipeline would be built. The same would occur if he refuses to consider rerouting the pipeline.

Does anyone have more knowledge on the 100W bulb ban to know if that includes ALL 100+W incandescent bulbs. What about items such as brooder lamps (or similar heat lamps). I use them in winter for plants. Do I need to stock up on those as well? $@%^, oops in meant to say Fucking, government.

From the beginning, I was never sure if Newt was serious or just having fun. Right now, I am praying that he is serious and his self re-examination and newfound faith have made him a better man.
Since he is hated by "our" establishment leaders, he is always going to be short on funds, even if he wins the nomination and is running in the general.
I am beginning to think that the establishment wouldn't mind waiting until 2016, because they would get to keep their hands in the till for at least another four years. After all, what good is a republic if the elites can't loot the treasury?

Newt is inside the beltway establishment, but not establishment-establishment. Note the outpourings of praise for Newt from his former colleagues in the House and Senate. The fear is that he (Newt) might actually do something to rock the gravy boat whereas Mittens will only change course imperceptibly, if at all.

Given what most conservatives (outside the beltway ones, at least) think of National Review these days, I think this might actually help Gingrich. It makes him look more like an "outsider" (accurate or not) every time the NRs and Karl Roves of the world unload on him like this.

I agree with you.
It doesn't motivate me in that way, but I am not really aligned with the 'outsider' wing of the party. If I had to choose between Newt and Mitt, I'd go for Newt because he does know DC and can use that knowledge to actually accomplish a few things.
But it irritates the heck out of me when a publication or pundit tries to act as if they are not endorsing someone by taking an endorsement and pretending it's serious analysis.

I guess that I'd call myself part of the "outsider" wing, but mostly just because I think it's more likely that someone like that would make (or at least try to) the huge changes that are going to be required to save this nation. Newt surely isn't an outsider in my mind, but I do think his personality and history indicates more willingness to try "big" fixes (some of which will be terribly stupid ideas, knowing Newt, but some will be good, too, and some few might even be really great ones).
NR has been irritating me on almost every issue for years now. That's how I went from a magazine subscriber to regular reader of the web site to won't even go near the web site over the course of the last 4-5 years. It's not just that they constantly bang the RINO drum; it's the thoroughly condescending way that they do it, like they're imparting wisdom to the unwashed masses from on high.
Posted by: davidinvirginia at December 15, 2011 07:20 AM (hcJkV)
He's an outsider who has very little (well, no) experience at the national level and no record that I can find of actually walking the walk of Federalism (unlike Perry who has taken the Feds to task on issues, as have other governors like Jindal and Herbert). So I doubt Mitt's ability to be effective fighting Dems in DC.
But Mitt is also an insider in the sense of his political family connections and money. He's a power broker outside of government, using his money to garner political favors. So many of the folks backing him are those who basically like the status quo because they've gotten rich and powerful under it.

That's a good way of putting it. Mitt's not "officially" a DC insider, but almost certainly would have the mindset of one in the White House. I'm still voting for Perry, too, if I get the chance (just sent him another donation this morning, in fact), but if it's down to Mitt vs. Newt by the time Virginia votes, I'll go with Newt over Romney.
