In the history of Earth, has any candidate ever been declared the loser when they are ahead by 6 points?
Iowa? Seriously, who cares? Ask Nominee Huckabee and Bachmann how important Iowa is. Any state which would seriously consider Ron Paul when he barely barely breaks double digits nationally cannot be taken too seriously.
That being said, I predict that Newt still rallies and wins Iowa and voters join the "Stop Paul" movement and decide not to waste their votes on Perry and Bachmann. I also predict that the venomous and misleading attack ads against Newt in Iowa will begin to backfire. The voters of Iowa have resoundingly said that they hate attack ads, yet will reward their purveyors? No, the attack ads backfire.

Everyone should vote for their personal choice, ignoring media polls and the phantom "electability" as defined by people like Ann Coulter.
No point in getting upset. It's too close to Christmas.

I just hope Perry's still on the ballot down here come primary day. He's the only real conservative there is in this race. Flat tax, balanced budget, part-time Congress, wants to make Washington inconsequential in our daily lives, what's not to like?
And fuck the leftard, commie, MFM with a pineapple wrapped in barb wire.
Sideways.

The procedure should be:
1. Who do you like?
2. Check out their stands to make sure you pretty much agree
3. Vote

I agree with the bulk of your post, but I contend that attack ads usually do work. People claim to hate them because people are told they should hate them. It's simply the "right thing to say" on the matter. But negative ads work. Most voters know that every election is nothing more than a choice of the lesser evil. Attack ads help them make their decision as to who is more evil.
The only way attack ads backfire is if they are demonstrated to be lies. People don't like that. If they are not effectively fought back, they are a powerful weapon.

“Dad, I have decided to work for Obama's re-election campaign”.

This. And maybe consider electability after the process has winnowed the field down to 2 or 3, but surely not before anyone has cast a single vote.

The reason I'm giving her the silent treatment is that I've pleaded with her to turn the television off in the bedroom at a reasonable hour-- say, 12 or even 1 am-- so I can sleep. And she refuses. So I sleep on the couch now.
I just don't get it.

Real Joe, This is what you call a 'teachable moment'. Sit down with her and have her give you 5 or 6 good reasons why she came to this conclusion. Write them down. Then, in a calm, nurturing way, go through each of them and destroy them with simple logic, reason and facts.
If this doesn't bring a glimmer of realization and reason to her eyes, chain her in the basement.
BTW, how old is she?

Real Joe, This is what you call a 'teachable moment'.
I agree. As a member of the Moron Horde, you should have at the ready at least 5 examples of the SCOAMF's Reign of Error to relate to your daughter.
Here are a few of mine: Price of gasoline, 1-8-09, approx $1.75, compare to today. SCOAMF in violation of two court orders that I'm aware of, Solyndra, record numbers of Americans in poverty and on food stamps, QE I and II and the resulting inflation (actual figure near 12%), fewer people working than in 35 years (actual UE around 11%, total UE 3 and UE 6 = 20%)
Pick a few and make your presentation. If that doesn't work, well, maybe she's young enough for the meat to still be tender...*

Whew! Strange as this may sound, I am relieved. I had jsut told my wife about your trevails and we were discussing how fortunate we are that both our daughters are conservative/ Of course they have not yet been exposed to the screeching libs at university. The oldest has set her mind on TAMU, so we will be safe there I'm sure.

Unfortunately many GOPers have 'evolved' past that to:
1. Who do you think stupid people would vote for?
2. Gloss over their imperfections.
3. Delude yourself into thinking they will do exactly what you want.
4. Vote.

My oldest daughter is back for break, and on her first day, went back to this thing the young'ens call a "job". She's also a card-carrying member of her college's Republicans Club. Three months after turning 18, she registered (R).
Damn shame that liberal arts college she attends is more liberal than arts, but someone's gotta make a stand.
Now just have to make sure the younger two siblings don't stray to the dark side.

Truman North, take the TV out of the bedroom. Now. And forever.
Replace it with a really cool lamp, an internet radio that plays obscure jazz stations, and some big fluffy pillows and blankets.

Well you can now tell her that since she believes in sharing the wealth and wants to be part of the movement for hope and change and demonstrate that she means it, she can ...Donate all her clothes, give away her TV, her stereo, her iPhone, and her iPod. Take all of her jewelry to the Salvation Army or give it to Goodwill. Then sell her car, her horse, and laptop.
