One of the doctors was Lou Sanner, 59, who practices family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Sanner said he gave out hundreds of notes and that many protesters with whom he spoke seemed to be suffering from stress.
"Some people think it's a nod-and-a-wink thing but it's not," he told The Associated Press on Sunday. "One of the biggest stresses in life is the threat of loss of income, loss of job, loss of health insurance. People have actually been getting ill from this, or they can't sleep."
...
Sanner said his intent in signing notes was to perform a public service. He said that's why he and his colleagues were stunned when they returned home Saturday night to find their e-mail inboxes filled with profane messages saying the doctors should be ashamed and should go to jail.
The doctors also got swamped by hostile phone calls and Facebook messages from across the U.S., he said.
"We're not political activists. We were surprised at the nationwide organized vitriol that has come our way so quickly," he said. "Apparently we hit a nerve. I've been a doctor for 30 years. I kind of missed when politics got this viral, this national."

Possible good news: Ghaddaffi may be out (parts of army are turning on him -- never a good sign for a despot).
Possible bad news: Walker may have some trouble in WI (some of the Repubs are getting weak kneed -- never a good sign when trying to deal with despotic unions).

The protesters claim to have control of Benghazi, Libya's second largest city. If that's true and if the military is turning on Ghaddaffi (given Libya's tribal nature - he shouldn't have had to hire mercs if he could count completely on the military), then we should hear soon that Ghaddaffi is abdicating his rule.

In addition to those claims, there's also word that the biggest tribe in the country has announced it is supporting the protesters.
It may not be enough to chase out Ghaddaffi and his kids, given the kids' rhetoric about drowning the country in civil war for 40 years, but it should be enough to keep him concentrated on events at home rather than pulling his usual shit overseas.

I think we are going to see multiple outcomes as old species die off and new ones emerge.
Given the tribal nature of the country, I'll agree.
The only thing that most of the country can agree on now is that they want that terrorist jackass gone. Once he's gone, every faction will likely start fighting each other for control of the country's oil fields.

MADISON, Wis. – To end a high-stakes stalemate over union rights that has captured the nation's attention, a handful of Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin might have to stand up to their new governor.
Gov. Scott Walker made clear Sunday he won't back off his proposal to effectively eliminate collective bargaining rights for most public employees. Senate Democrats who fled the state last week to delay the plan vowed not to come back to allow it to pass — even if they have to miss votes on other bills Tuesday. And union leaders said they would not let up on protests that have consumed Wisconsin's capital city for a week and made the state the center of a national debate over the role of public employees' unions.
That dynamic means it might take Republicans in the Legislature who believe Walker is going too far to try to break the impasse.
Good old AP, Walker has gone too far and now it's time for some Republicans to cave in and support the Dims/unions.

20 I think this ouster is going to get bloody, but the "tonight we dine in heck" rhetoric usually doesn't come out full bore unless the person saying it is pretty rattled. So, looks like K-Daf may be on the way out. Of course, this probably means another wave of refugees.
(sorry, but I'll admit to being incredibly bigoted against Ropers; I don't like them and the fewer of them exported to the rest of the world, the better...actually, the fewer of them the better. Doesn't mean I haven't met individuals, even have one as a family friend, although not really sure if he counts as an actual Roper -- but each one of them would probably be a better, or at least happier, person without the religious influence in their lives)

We had a Ship's Service electrician like that on our watch in one of the electrical spaces. That guy was out there. Someone took a grease pencil and wrote 666 on his watch when he left it sitting on the electrical panel one night. Instead of cleaning it off and laughing at the prank he threw the watch over the side.
He finally crackup up one night and paralleled a 2500KW SSTG 180° out of phase during a startup (cause God told him to). We had to protect him from the MM's who came up from the Engine Room to kill him.
He was ultimately court marshaled.
So I would avoid that guy if I was you.

The short version is that at least one Wiscy GOP senator is talking about suspending collective bargaining rights for a few years before re-instituting them rather than permanently stripping them.
The thing is that the Dems and unions will still refuse to vote for it because it doesn't strip the "open shop" portion of the law which would allow teachers to opt out of the teacher's union.

"The Governor's office released an example of the fiscal impact of bargaining:
Many school districts participate in a union run insurance plan because the teacher's union bargains to get districts across the state to participate. Union leadership benefits from members participating. If school districts enrolled in the state employee health plan, it would save school districts up to $68 million per year."

This, the annual certification requirements, and the elimination of automatic dues payments are the components that the union bosses cannot allow under any circumstances. What's funny to me is that the teachers are protesting their requirement to actually pay more for their own health insurance and pensions while the union bosses are more concerned about the other stuff. The unions would happily throw their members under the bus and would agree to the end of collective bargaining and the insurance and pension payments in order to keep automatic certification and compulsory membership and dues payments, because without those the unions will die.

No. He meant the anti-collective bargaining legislation.
Oy.
He then started talking about everything the GOP has done.
I asked about the implementation of ObamaCare when a court ruled it Unconstitutional. He said, 'Well, we have to go forward on that. It was only one judge.'
I asked about giving up/down on permits for offshore drilling that another judge ordered. He said, 'We have to ignore that judge. it is for the health of the world.'
I also asked about Czars, EPA, etc. He said, 'Obama had to go around Congress.'
He bitched about losing freedom because GOP voted to end funding to Planned Parenthood. I informed him that they didn't outlaw abortions, and if he felt that strongly, he could still donate. He said, 'No, that is the government's job.'
An hour later he told me that the only 'sensible' news person out there was...wait for it...wait for it...Rachel MadCow!
Ha ha ha ha.

He did tell me that the closest to center but still far right Fox newscaster was.....Shep Smith!
His only defenses have been:
1. Obama/Dem had to do that
2. I get my news from Fox (which I don't. Other than Megyn and Beck and Cavuto, most of their coverage is left leaning, Israel bashing, blow jobbing Muslims coverage)
3. So, that just what a Conservative judge did.
4. He had to ignore the People, it was best for the Country.

I am not to sure on that extra cut vote. For that many of the new ones to vote no there had to be something else in it I think. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since we re still talking about the CR.
All bets are off though when they start talking about the 2012 budget which will be ALL theirs. As for Noem it seems like I saw her doing some squishie-like stuff on another score a few weeks ago. I guess we will see before the Summer is out.

PS - When bro and I talked politics, it always ends up with him losing and hanging up on me. The last conversation ended with me asking him 'What if instead of Obama, you put Bush's name into the sentences you use to defend your great leader?' He told me he wouldn't deal in hypotheticals, that there was no way to know how he'd react if Bush had done this stuff, and that since I ran out of Fox talking points he was done with me.' Then he hung up!

No one is sure where Daffy is. The Libyan ambassador to China, who just resigned over the protests, told Spanish language papers that Daffy had fled to Venezuela and that his kids were shooting at each other. English language papers are only saying that he's "fled Tripoli", but not where he's set up shop.
As far as his name goes, that's one of those things you get when attempting to translate an Arabic name to English. Anything which doesn't have an established translation into English seems to be spelled out in several different ways, all phonetically the same.

I live in a typical lower-middle class (elderly) neigh. by a lake. Last year this really rich guy buys two houses side-by-side, tears them done, builds a huge house that blocks the view of the lake for most of us, and puts in solar panels. He would brag to every one about how much money he will save, and how much good he was doing. Just heard him at the only store in town bitching about how high his electric bill and gas bill was. When asked why he said that the panels have been covered with snow all winter, and it takes a lot of power to run his floor heaters, all his kids' plug in thingies, and his fucking car.

It contrasts the foreign policy POVs of (as he puts it) the two wings of the Tea Party - the Palinites vs the Paulites
A worthwhile read.
Excerpt:
The first [trend] is that the contest in the Tea Party between what might be called its Palinite and its Paulite wings will likely end in a victory for the Palinites. The Palinite wing of the Tea Party (after Sarah Palin) wants a vigorous, proactive approach to the problem of terrorism in the Middle East, one that rests on a close alliance between the United States and Israel. The Paulite wing (Rand Paul) would rather distance the United States from Israel as part of a general reduction of the United StatesÂ’ profile in a part of the world from which little good can be expected.

Moreover, the bill would repeal all bargaining rights for home health care workers, University of Wisconsin System faculty and academic staff, and employees of University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics.
The level of union protest and media involvement over a bill that is being lawfully passed by a governor and legislature that were elected on this issue is slightly odd until you find out that the FACULTY of one of the most liberal universities in the nation are affected.
Don't let anyone tell you that the doctors (all UW) or anyone else is protesting for the "dignity" of the "workers". It's for money.

I feel sorry for those Egyptians I know who really did want a more open, democratic society -- they failed to take just how organized the MB was, and they failed to take into consideration just how backwards, illiterate, and degraded with jihadi bullshit their own society has become. The sun is waking up from a long quiet spell. Last week it sent out the strongest flare for four years – and scientists are warning that earth should prepare for an intense electromagnetic storm that, in the worst case, could be a “global Katrina” costing the world economy $2,000bn.

Actually it's in Morningside Heights about which there's a debate of whether that makes it a part of Harlem or the Upper West Side. Most people consider it to be south of Harlem. Either way it's generally very safe around there; my youngest Hatette and s-i-l live just north of that (parallel with Grant's tomb) and feel completely secure.

Now you may add rape to that but it really isn't downplaying it.
If a mob did that in SC it would probably be classified not as a Sexual Assault case but as as a first degree lynching. The mob participants could be sentenced to up to 40 years if I remember correctly.

Senator Galloway Statement on Fraudulent Sick Notes
Senator Pam Galloway (R‐Wausau), released the following statement today:
“Over the weekend, various news outlets have reported that some physicians were handing out medical excuse notes to protestors attending rallies at the State Capitol. There is video footage of this including notes signed by a physician who is employed as an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have no issue with public employees who went in to see their physicians and obtained a note after being examined. However, I am outraged that doctors allegedly stood on street corners in downtown Madison passing out medical excuses like leaflets. Make no mistake these medical excuses are as flimsy as the paper they were written on.
As a physician, I took an oath to uphold professional standards. To hand out an excuse without properly evaluating a patient is both unethical and fraudulent.http://tinyurl.com/6xfpeeq

Invitations to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton - 1,900 of them - are in the mail.
And, says royals watcher Victoria Arbiter, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama aren't among those getting one.
On "The Early Show" Monday, Arbiter told co-anchor Chris Wragge, "The Obamas have not been snubbed. Prince William is only second in line to the throne, which means that this is not an official state occasion. So therefore, foreign heads of state are not required to be invited.
Yet, in the past, the first lady has represented the country. Nancy Reagan went to (the late Princess) Diana's wedding (to Prince Charles). Hillary Clinton went to Diana's funeral. So perhaps, it's a little surprising that Michelle wasn't included.
