Bah! Sleep is for cobras. Honey Badger don't give a shit.

Want to get angry? Read Bill Whittle's thoughts on our Enemy in Chief (via Phineas at Sister Toldjah). We all know none of the behavior is accidental and this is old news, but Whittle produces a fine summary of just some of the offenses.

BTW, has anyone noted how much of a clusterfuck of a manchild we have as president today?

Case in point - linked on Instapundit today: WALL STREET JOURNAL: The Federal Reserve Is Causing Turmoil Abroad: Few protesters in the Middle East connect rising food prices to U.S. monetary policy. But central bankers do. Umm, Beck was saying this a YEAR ago. Then, CRAZY. Today, well, of course. So yes, gold. Guns. And seeds. The recovery which is basically only happening in the DC area is shaky at best. Add $5 a gallon gas? (Seems like Beck was saying something about the price of oil a little while back?) Eff. And eff again. Glenn Beck can't you just be a nutcase paranoid crazy guy?

15 I see $10 gas and doom in the near future.

I don't think the Saudis will allow that to happen.  A deep world wide depression and extreme pressure on energy technology development is not in their national interest.

OPEC is well aware that there is an inflection point where nations like Canada and the USA will sweep aside all enviro whining and be compelled to hit tar sands and oil shale like a Viking.  The last thing they want to do is push us to that point, because once there, the price of oil is effectively capped at whatever WE want it to be, because WE will be in a position to supply the "last barrel of demand" and cover new demand.

The financial guys were on Beck yesterday and said that if Saudi Arabia got caught up in this shit that is where it would go. They said we are already going to see $5 gas based on Libya.

They said since the Saudis were already surrounded by violence they were next on the list for trouble, hence the $10 gas.

They are not going to be able to do anything about it.

Once they figure out that new economically compelled lifestyle includes tiny Soviet style apartments, drastically limited product choices, and cars that resemble a Trabant more than a Tacoma, their opinions will change.

The Gen X/Y/Z crowd grew up with a LOT of skewed assumptions about what the bare minimums for survival are supposed to be.  Most aren't old enough to remember gas stations that simply didn't have gas.  The notion of say food rationing is completely foreign to them, yet it was SOP during WWII.

Damn few of them will be willing to trade their car in for a euro-scooter or bicycle, or accept the Mexican version of "road repair" where potholes are simply filled with large white painted rocks you need to avoid.  Even fewer will be willing to give up their cell phones as unaffordable.

Unlike Egypt and Libya is the Kingdom is essentially a vast welfare state where a significant percentage of citizens are taken care of cradle to grave by oil profits.  The percentage of citizens with a vested interest in stability is much larger.

The oil producing regions aren't very close to the political/religious centers either, which makes restricting the movement of miscreants a bit easier.

30 PA - I think the question is not whether the Saudis have an interest in stabilizing oil supplies and prices - that's self-evident. The question is whether they have the capacity. Not sure how much slack they have in their system. And I am sure they have heavily invested in Greens in the US to insure themselves. Again, I admire your optimism. I don't think an oil shock will make the decliners wake up - they don't think Trabants, they think Prii, which are pretty cushy for an economy car. They don't get that Prius sales are all subsidized by the Sequoias and 4Runners and Highlanders and the feddle gubmint. That economics stuff is hard, and the Consitution is OLD. Oil comes from polar bear breeding grounds, and Sarah Palin said oil is good and she is teh stoopid! 31 Looks like Providence, RI teachers are gonna need some of those 'stress' doctor's notes:

PROVIDENCE — The school district plans to send out dismissal notices to every one of its 1,926 teachers, an unprecedented move that has union leaders up in arms.

In a letter sent to all teachers Tuesday, Supt. Tom Brady wrote that the Providence School Board on Thursday will vote on a resolution to dismiss every teacher, effective the last day of school.

In an e-mail sent to all teachers and School Department staff, Brady said, “We are forced to take this precautionary action by the March 1 deadline given the dire budget outline for the 2011-2012 school year in which we are projecting a near $40 million deficit for the district,” Brady wrote. “Since the full extent of the potential cuts to the school budget have yet to be determined, issuing a dismissal letter to all teachers was necessary to give the mayor, the School Board and the district maximum flexibility to consider every cost savings option, including reductions in staff.” State law requires that teachers be notified about potential changes to their employment status by March 1.

“To be clear about what this means,” Brady wrote, “this action gives the School Board the right to dismiss teachers as necessary, but not all teachers will actually be dismissed at the end of the school year.”

Okay morons -- here's a really BFG:

Jon Gosselin apparently has returned to the life of the working man, as the Berks County dad was reportedly spotted installing solar panels on the roof of a storage building, according to TMZ which has photos of Kate's ex hard at work.

Jon, wearing a hardhat and safety harness on the job, is working for Green Pointe Energy, a company that specializes in renewable energy, is based in Berwyn. The pictures show Jon taking a break rather than working and it seems he still has time for a smoke and to check Twitter.

Even if all this unrest doesn't result in massive shortages, I worry that the new governments will go to war with israel as a way of consilidating their domestic power. It's always easy to unify a population around a government by going to war with a hated enemy.

49 The reason gas stations ran out of gas in the 70s was not because there was a shortage of gas. It was because idiot Carter decided to put a cap on the price of gas. Since the price of oil was going through the roof the evil oil companies could not make up for their costs so they simply quit selling any gas that came from overseas oil.

RE: the sidebar article about Providence teachers getting the pink slip.  That's actually not unheard of, though possibly it is at such a scale.  Just last year here in NH, the town of Somersworth pink slipped all of its education employees, from teachers through the Superintendent, for precisely the same reason.  They didn't know what the budget would look like for this fiscal year, so they cut everybody and then waited to see what the budget would look like before they brought anyone back.  I had to go up there and conduct a training the day everyone found out; boy was THAT uncomfortable.

From Andrew Malcolm's column in the LA Times via Drudge:

The community organizer who became president has launched a massive pre-reelection year campaign to assemble and train an army of new community organizers to carry Obama's "movement forward for years to come."

Strengthening "our democracy" presumably has something to do with reelecting the revered leader in 2012.

The message about what it calls the "Summer Organizing Fellowship" adds: "Effective organizing doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes commitment, time, and hard work to build a movement around a cause." It does not specify what the "cause" is, other than promoting Obama and his agenda.

No mention of an Obama organizer flag, uniform -- or salute.

70 Authorities in Japan have begun excavating the former site of a medical school that may contain the remains of victims of the country's wartime biological warfare programme.
The school has links to Unit 731, a branch of the imperial Japanese army that conducted lethal experiments on prisoners as part of efforts to develop weapons of mass destruction.
...
Unit 731, based in Harbin in northern China, conducted experiments on tens of thousands of mostly Chinese and Korean prisoners, and a small number of Allied prisoners of war. Some historians estimate up to 250,000 people were subjected to experiments. The remains of some are thought to have been transported from China to Tokyo for analysis.

And, as much as I am with you on this, the problem with your argument is that there are a hell of a lot of Porsches and Mercedes and BMWs on German roads, and they have, sort of axiomatically, European levels of taxation.

Europe in general was subsidized by living under the American Defense umbrella, so that helped, and I think being on their own a lot more, the results are starting to appear.

But the Kos commenter doesn't see that. They go, hey, Europe isn't so bad, they have expensive gas....

I can't wait for the day when we stop paying for their defense. I want to be there to see the looks on their faces.

For those worried about the price of gasoline, do this next time you fuel up. Look over at the price of diesel fuel if your station sells it. That's what you really need to worry about.

Diesel has been running higher than gas for a long time. The average semi gets about 6mpg. When I was working, I generally would use 80 to 100 gallons a day, 5, 6, even 7 days a week. Not a lot of gas is used to get product to retail. Even the smaller trucks are going diesel. But on the bright side, Moochelle has lovely toned arms, eh?

78 Evan and Susan Bayh were in Christchurch during the earthquake.  Both are ok.  Bayh had to take refuge under a table and Susan saw a woman crushed to death right in front of her by a falling wall.

wow i did not know they only got 6mpg, that's insanely low.

Yes I think it's even worse than expected in the aftermath - many buildings were weakened in the September quake and have collapsed now

Thankfully a friend's hubby is safe - he arrived in Christchurch the day before the quake for work  - he's now staying a bit longer because he's a builder and they will be needed

Motor vehicles per 1000 people:
US: 842
Italy: 571
Germany: 558
France: 494
Sweden: 475

Of course, that doesn't break down how many are owned by businesses or government vs. individuals.  My understanding is it's not unusual to include a car leased by the company as part of the benefits for white-collar workers (please don't tell the WI teachers union).

LOS ANGELES – Two civil liberties groups have sued the FBI, claiming that one of the agency's former informants was ordered to target Muslims for surveillance when he infiltrated a California mosque.

The ACLU of Southern California and the Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations filed the lawsuit Tuesday in federal court, the Washington Post reported.

The lawsuit alleged that ex-FBI informant Craig Monteilh violated Muslims' constitutional rights of freedom of religion by conducting "indiscriminate surveillance" because of their religion.

I'm surprised that Holder isn't in on the lawsuit

...indiscriminate surveillance...

Like bugging an Italian restaurant in New Jersey or sending an informant to KKK meetings, you go to mosques because that's where the jihad terrorists are.   CAIR is against 'all forms of terrorism' (jihad not mentioned) and any law enforcement effort to prevent it.

88 Ben, that's pretty much average over a year. You get less mileage in winter because diesel burns more in cold weather. #2 fuel is usually blended about 26% with #1 to keep it from gelling in the cold. In summer I could get about 7mpg, but with the new low sulpher fuel now required, I lost about a quarter to half mile per gallon, doesn't sound like a lot til you do the math. Takes a lot of fuel to push 80,000 lbs down the road. Gasoline would be worse. You'd get about half that mileage.

89 “I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going. Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary,” Rep. Mike Capuano (D-Ma.) told a crowd in Boston.

The last time I checked Incite to Riot was a capital offense. Mr. Capuano could be indited in Wisconsin. Sorry, certain types of speech are not protected by the first amendment.

To date, the names of doctors Lou Sanner and James Shropshire have been cited in media reports about the medical excuses dispensed over the weekend. Both are affiliated with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. The agency said none of the doctors involved was representing UW Health at the time.

Shropshire has not returned a call seeking comment, and Sanner defended his actions in an interview with The Associated Press. He said the excuses were legitimate because those protesting showed symptoms of stress.

STOCKHOLM -- Swedish tabloid Expressen says Libya's ex-justice minister claims Moammar Gadhafi personally ordered the Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people in 1988.

Expressen on Wednesday quoted Mustafa Abdel-Jalil as telling their correspondent in Libya that "I have proof that Gadhafi gave the order about Lockerbie."

93 This is from Ben Smith at Politico. I'll post the whole thing so they don't get any hits...

Not since those Montreal comedians got through to Sarah Palin has a stunt like this worked, but a reporter from the Buffalo Beast, posing as David Koch, appears to have managed to get Scott Walker on the line.

The alt-weekly's site is down, but you can hear the recording at Mother Jones.

But they didn't actually get much from Walker, other than his assent to bizarre "Koch" statements. He does give a glimpse of his -- utterly reasonable -- strategy, including courting an independent-minded Senate Democrat who he describes as "pretty reasonable, but he's not one of us." He also tips his hand to an attempt to lure Democrats back to the state for a meeting that, even if they fled again, would allow Republicans to pass his bill.

"I'm not negotiating," he said.

He also clearly believes that time is on his side, and that Democrats are desperate to get out of the fix.

Walker said his administration is looking into the question of whether legislators can be charged with a felony if unions are paying them "to keep them from doing their job."

The call is worth a listen though, for the candid glimpse it offers at the suddenly-prominent Walker. It's also typical in that it reflects politicians willingness to give large amounts of time to rich guys whose obvious weirdness and terrible ideas are to be tolerated for the cash they put up.

One other interesting bit: Walker says he talks to Ohio's John Kasich "every day."

One of the local talk shows here had a guy on from a gasoline distributor talking about this subject a few weeks ago. Diesel is a lot higher than gasoline primarily due to taxes.

Also, it is going through the roof due to the falling dollar. This is the same for ALL commodities. You are seeing the effect of QE1, QE2, QE et al. The only reason gasoline has been slower to react has been the shitty economy is holding down the demand.

If the economy had been bett4r gasoline would already be above $4. Now per the folks on Beck yesterday you can expect to see the national average of gas at $5 soon.

95 OPEC is well aware that there is an inflection point where nations like Canada and the USA will sweep aside all enviro whining and be compelled to hit tar sands and oil shale like a Viking. While true in principle, we will be amazed at how far off that inflection point is. It's a solid black gold guarantee that Clownifornians will accept actual residential electricity rationing and mandatory car-pooling before they permit new drilling off CA shores. Furthermore, the younger generations will accept tiny Soviet apartments. We build them now in southern CA. Most new construction, cheap enough for most to rent or buy, is tiny boxes stacked on top of each other, with retail space at bottom, in the middle of stinking city congestion. I know plenty of libtard douchebags who actually ride bicycles to work and are fine with it. They live close to work by choice, because they can't afford much else, and they live in urban hives like cordwood, enjoying hipster lifestyles of iPods, Urban Outfitters, and Starbucks. I suspect many of them have no problem running up plenty of credit card debt, with little intention of paying it off. As many have said, liberalism is a religion and people will suffer dismemberment and even immolation for religious beliefs. Suffering gas lines and high prices and bus transportation amounts to little in comparison.

96 Vic, yes, it is mostly taxes. Diesel is a middle distillate, so it is cheaper to refine. Also, watch for gas to take a big jump this spring. Right now we are using a winter blend of gas. Soon it will be back to RFG for summer, which is usually 10 cents a gallon more.

104 Cultural biases aside, German policymakers do think the United States is misguided as a matter of economic reasoning. “We think they’re wrong,” says one top official. “We think you don’t get the multiplier they say.” The multiplier is the measure of how much economic activity results from emergency government spending. Discussions of the multiplier were at the center of the debates over the Obama stimulus plan. Christina Romer and the president’s other economic advisers argued that the multiplier would be around 1.6—the government would create $1.60 worth of economic activity for every dollar it spent. At those rates, who can afford not to stimulate? “Our research says the multiplier is more like .60,” says the German official. If he is correct, then a stimulus plan can actually deaden an economy rather than stimulate it. If he is correct, you might have been as well off to have taken the stimulus money and thrown it away.

Which Hussein?

"Dump oil into the sea and light all the wells on fire" Hussein ... or,

"Force the fire to be put out quickly thereby sinking the rig, bending the pipe causing oil to dump into the sea, doing nothing to try to contain the flow, stopping states from defending their own shores against it, ceasing all offshore drilling - being slapped down by a court - ceasing it again - being held in contempt by another court" Hussein?

There are lots of crazy Husseins and their oil spills.
