Federal Judge Holds U.S. Government in Contempt Over Drilling Ban

The federal judge who struck down the Obama administration's moratorium on deepwater drilling after the Gulf oil spill held the Interior Department in contempt Wednesday, and ordered the federal agency to pay attorney fees for several offshore oil companies.

 

What this article isnÂ’t saying (AP) is that the interior department appealed the original ruling and LOST yet they continued to refuse to issue the permits under orders form the top.

 

This also indicates a possible attitude for the Obamacare ruling.  This story deserves its own post.

No I have never tried BBQ there. I try to avoid Charlotte if possible, particularly Independence Blvd. The traffic is awful on narrow streets not designed for it.

This is by far more than just whether or not an injunction is needed. In this case local LA oil companies sued because there was no reason why their permits were revoked. The judge reviewed the case and ordered them restored/issued. The interior department appealed. They lost the appeal. The oild companies went for their permits after the dept lost. On order from the top they still refused to issue the permits.

This is blatant defiance of a court order. If you or I did this we would be in jail. I am going to try to find the judge's contempt ruling to see what the "failure to comply" will entail.

Meh. While this would be big news had a judge held the Bush administration in contempt, the MFM will paint the judge as a crazy and Obama as the wronged party. Most of America will believe it.

And as for the attorney fees -- Obama's EPA, OSHA and a bevy of other federal regulators will be sicced on those companies and fine them ten times the cost of any attorney fees. It's called Chicago style politics.

All it does now is give them attorney fees. They are going to have to go back to court again I suppose.

The big question now is, if they will do this on the oil drilling, will they do it on the Obamacare as well?

This administration has thumbed its nose at the rule of law and the Constitution since they took office. This gets tiring after a while but WHAT IF THIS WAS A REPUBLICAN???

The orders of impeachment would already have been drawn up and the Republicans would support them.

Reminds me of that British film "Eat The Rich", where they open a fancy restaurant with the goal of killing and serving the rich Tory patrons. It's actually an enjoyable movie, and oddly the main Tory politician and "bad guy" is the most hilarious and lovable character in the film.

High risk, high reward?  There were a few journalists beaten-up or imprisoned, but there might be areas where if the military permits the journalists to do their reporting with little risk of injury.

Wasn't he killed off in the beginning?  I don't remember his part.  Every time this movie was on HBO, I only caught either the middle or the very end.

I agree with your cynicism. The pro-Mubarak movement anger with American journalists is the media's complete bias in favor of the revolutionaries who include the released violent criminals and Islamist terrorists.

These American reporters have never seen a riot they haven't wanted to join. Truth be told, though, they stayed in grand Hotel Lobbies when reporting from Bagdad, sending out surrogates. They seem to be unable to resist the thrill of stupidly putting themselves in harms way, lacking good manners themselves having insulted their host nation, is for theatrically rated screen affects, and to augment the rioting, themselves feeding the flames of anger.

I've watched the various American journalists' videos through, and no bodily violence occurs other than Cooper getting his ears boxed for snarking the approaching crowd to their faces on air. Pro-Mubarak protesters are scaring the shit out of Americans without injury beyond hurt egotism, as American journalists assume incorrectly that everyone around the globe must respect the journalists' First Amendment Rights that certainly don't apply abroad, only stateside. All of the violence directed towards the American journalists has been contained as real THREATS of physical injury substantiated by jostling and destruction of media property. The journalists synthesize effectively their complete experience into a capsule for sound bites that further substantiate the journalists' bias. We hear Cooper say that he's been beaten, but we only see the crowd of shuffling feet and hear the angry voices. We hear Amanpour describe what happened to her, yet though she had her camera equipment running and in her possession, there is no record beyond her narrative. The car driving through the protests WILL have rocks thrown at it by someone, that's a given. We read Sam Tadros description days ago that each Cairo neighborhood required its own residents to perform their own security measures. Yet major network anchors are shocked when THEY, being the people who walk on 1st Amendment waters, are stopped-searched-questioned, as if they didn't know that each neighborhood has its own blockades. And when the pro-revolutionary American journalists are manhandled, their actual personage violated by the angry gestures and voices of the pro-Mubarak people the journalists chose to confront, upon safe departure, they report a narrative of raging radicals kidnapping them and putting a rusted, bloodied saw on their neck to draw their own life blood, or so the headline goes.

If we're supposed to figure how we'd feel if it were us, go figure what we'd feel, say and do if it were our civility and constitutional government being destroyed by revolutionaries. Oops. If nothing else, our self-righteous media (representing the interests of pro-Islamist revolutionaries) is consistent.

Assuming it's true, he has no sense.  I was sort of surprised at all these calls for freedom of the press and the right to assemble and demonstrate in a place that practices oppression.  As if the Egyptian government is going to suddenly care about freedoms of citizens or foreigners when they are threatened with losing their hold.

Panic time.

Half an inch of snow and the schools are closed. They canceled last night's classes at the community college...but the snow didn't start til 2 this morning.

And the base let people know about a late opening...at 3:30am.

You're right. If you watch and pay close attention to various different venues with a critical eye, you can figure out for yourself what is going on over there, and you don't need to have the commentators do your thinking for you, which is what the liberals want to do to manipulate public opinion.

For example, an issue which they have conveniently chosen to overlook is that it was not just a coincidence that that uprising started only after Admiral Mullen had gotten the Egyptian Army's top leadership out of the way, and while all of the Egyptian Army's top generals were attending a contrived conference here in this country. The Obama Administration has their dirty fingerprints all over all of those events, but they're playing dumb and the MSM is giving them cover.

I like my winged vigilanties heavily armed and armored, and highly motivated.  The vigilantee trade is generally dominated by right wingers, so I thnk that outsourcing the administration of justice to them is probably a big win for civilization.  After all, we've seen how well the judicial system works.

I hate to admit it, but I honestly laughed when I heard he'd been beat up.  I felt horrible after the fact... for about five seconds.  Then I got over it.  Walk into the frying pan, it's not a stretch that you're going to get burned by the fire.  Though even I had to pity the guy when I heard he got beat up a SECOND time.  Guess they've got a thing against boyish, gray-haired, blue-eyed metrosexual liberal douches in Egypt.  Who'da thunk it?

Hey, all.  So we all know that the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs released its report on the Fort Hood massacre the other day.  It basically says what we all know: Hassan was clearly a radicalized Islamist, but the DoD glossed over or ignored the warning signs because they were worried of being accused of discrimination.  It's not terribly long (91 pages), and a solid read.
