2 Here's a point that I wish Herman Cain would have made to the punk he took on:  The problems we face with our healthcare costs stem from how socialized our system already is.

Government mandates care for people who cannot pay, underpays for people it 'provides' care for, lets lawyers suck money out of the system, puts perverse incentives into place to limit choices and ownership of benefits, and the solution that these people offer is 100% government control vs. 50%.  It's time to start questioning their premise at its core:  The Government is the cause of the problems we face with medical care.

In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, the gov't pushed for med schools to expand their class size (and relax entrance requirements) in return for cash. Which most schools did. The supposed shortage of doctors come from the fact that a lot of doctors want to live in Denver, Colorado- and no doctors want to live in Frog's Ass, Oklahoma. Interestingly, the gov't tried the same thing with veterinary schools and were basically told to go to hell. Not exactly apples and apples but since veterinary care is mostly owner paid/free-market. Costs have stayed low. Vets take home pay is high. And there is no "shortage" of Veterinarians. Amazing how that free-market stuff works.

1.) The Bureaucracy wants to punish the public for cutting its funds - so useful government services are cut immediately to cause the public pain.

2.) It is the Bureaucracy that determines who gets cut, and they sure aren't going to cut themselves.

Here is a radical idea - instead, lets cut the fat and leave the meat of government in place - wow what a concept. 95 Vets tend to specialize in large animal or small animal. Small animal usually means cats and dogs and large animals are farm animals. My old roommate doesn't have a lot of hamster sympathy, everything past kitty and doggy and felt to be sorta expendable. Her husband is the large animal vet and she the small. Large animal vets make a lot more but pretty much are on the road all the time and they have to live in the boondocks.

It seems that I have been praying for their safety for weeks now.  We are supposed to get 1.5 - 2 more inches today and then 1 - 10 inches of snow tomorrow.  Unfortunately, the places that higher ground will be getting the most snow, so the areas around the lower lying cities, which are already flooded, will be hit with even more water.

But the vets with high take home are the ones demanding that your pets visit the clinic every three months for check-ups, and be dosed with the maximum tolerated drugs/vaccines rather than minimum or moderate recommended traditionally. Rather than permit the traditional humane owner decisions without brow beating, in order to manipulate quality of life and end of life decisions for the clinic's profit. unscrupulous vets bully the owners with guilt trips to get permission to operate (recovery rate low but not part of the vet's propaganda as the vet boasts surgical skills never earned, rather using your pet as their own trial patient/victim). Go to the new and impressive clinic structures, and notice at your first visit how long it takes for the vet to ask whether you consider your pet a member of the family.

There are a few of the old school vets left, but not many who actually treat animals well without abusing the owners' trust for a manipulative bigger buck.

Better late than never. One of King's primary focuses has been the lack of cooperation between the Muslim community and law enforcement, which FBI and law enforcement have confirmed is not just a talking point. It's interesting, King has been receiving threats, the White House is against him, and the Islamist community has tried to shame him into silence but I haven't seen that reported on many conservative blogs. But I suppose that's because we expect these things to occur.

Your friend is right, at least with regards to the union leadership's priorities. With mandatory withholding the union is protected from economic downturn because they will always get their money. Also, most members never really notice how much money is being taken by union dues because it's taken out before they get paid. Additionally, those who don't want to be in the union have no say in the matter because the money's taken without their consent. All of that changes when you remove automatic withholding.

Removing automatic withholding of union dues will cripple the unions.

The goons forgot who they were dealing with. Walker had this same problem as Mil. Co. supervisor. He told the unions "cuts or job losses", they tried to bully him and said no cuts. He fired about 20% of them. He doesn't want to fire people, but he will.

The job problem is still out there. This blows up the union but the fiscal part of the bill is still looming. They will have to agree to paying into the health and pension or people are going to be fired. This ain't over yet. More hilarity will yet ensue.

In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, the gov't pushed for med schools to expand their class size (and relax entrance requirements) in return for cash.

Which most schools did.

The supposed shortage of doctors come from the fact that a lot of doctors want to live in Denver, Colorado-

From the Denver Post:

"CU has 160 first-year medical students this year, including 120 from Colorado. They were selected from 3,660 applicants and 573 candidates qualified enough to secure interviews. "

This was in 2009.  Only 20% of qualified applicants could find admission. 

The AMA is a cartel that has successfully managed to curtail any real competition.  100 years ago they pushed and successfully got a rigid system that they could control at every step, and which pushed independent medical schools out of market.  It arguably drove up the quality of the remaining schools, but at the cost of availability. 

You can't start an MD program unless you are tied to a medical center, the number of students are still very limited, and the number of residencies are limited by funding from congress.

If you just want more and less qualified people providing health care, you'll get that with Obamacare. In my perfect world, the standard to get into med school would be even higher but the cost of med school would be very low. Oh goody.  That puts you in an exclusive club of, oh, 300 million other Americans.  This is precisely the problem: the smartest, most qualified doctors will always be in high demand, and very expensive.  All that your "gating processs" is doing is removing the next best, still competent doctors from the market, because they couldn't jump through enough hoops and kiss enough ass to get into medical school.  This hurts the average american by forcing them to wait longer, and pay more for services. 

As you admit, 90-95% of treatments are routine, so why shouldn't they be done by PAs, by RNs or by tier two or three medical school graduates?  I don't need a Harvard grad to stitch up my hand when I get a cut, or sign off on my yearly physical.  I want them as the specialists when I go in for cancer treatment, or a serious surgery.

The high cost to get in is directly related to the heavy restrictions placed on medical education by the AMA and the government.  When 100 people are competing for three slots, and only the top 15 will even be considered for an interview, then those three who do get in are going to be more than willing to pay out the nose, since they will be very well compensated when they graduate.  Medical Schools know this, and can charge accordingly.  The AMA knows this, and has lead the charge to keep supply artificially low.  Hence the requirements to be an accredited medical schools.

Do you really think that they're going to move there if only you'd pay their way through medical school?!  Places like Dog's End will only get doctors when the benefits of setting up a practice somewhere else are less than the benefits for that doctor to set up shop there.  You want that to happen, increase the supply of doctors.
