This was in a Navy barracks at NPS Charleston. I don't know how they are doing ow in the new PC Navy but when I was going through the initial phases of Nuke Power school any infractions at all were considered grounds for removal from the program. We had people kicked out because they used fake ID's to drink with at the EM club in "A" school. We had people kicked out for speeding tickets.
At the time they called it "demonstrated unreliability". If you couldn't keep your nose clean for such things as that, then you could not be counted on to keep your nose clean in the rules and procedures for nuke power in the Navy.
So this is most likely not a DADT thing. They violated the rules and were caught. Tuff.

Adjustment Bureau wasn't too bad. Damon was occasionally almost human, Emily Blunt was sort of cute, the guy from Mad Men who played one of the agents is totally typecast now.
Though, given the abuse of a certain old moviemaker's crutch, the film could have just as well been called The Adjustment of Bagger Vance.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Two people close to former Republican Rep. Heather Wilson said she plans to enter the race for New Mexico's U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Jeff Bingaman.
The two confirmed to The Associated Press on that Wilson will announce her candidacy on Monday.Wilson has scheduled a news conference Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Desert Paper and Envelope in Northeast Albuquerque. Her representative does confirm that she will make an announcement, but will not say what it will be.
Wilson works as a private consultant in Albuquerque and led GOP Gov. Susana Martinez's transition team.
Bingaman announced last month that he would not seek re-election in 2012 when his fifth term expires.

In fairness to ace, with whom I have severe issues on a variety of topics, it's hard to align one's movie tastes with somebody else. One of my best friends generally is spot on with his cinema recommendations but has some severe blind spots, such as going to see every fucking Eddie Murphy piece of shit that was ever produced. Away from that obvious point of contention, when he recs something I'm pretty much on it.

Let's let this thing play out in a protracted way that maximizes exposure for all those willing to put their hat in the ring. More attacks on Oblabla, and more focus on what damage the man has done and is doing. I would love the see a gang bang on him even while they eat their own. The press will have a hard time separating their enemy, us, from the chaff. Oblabla will have to handle numerous views that run counter to his vision which he will be forced to explain with a LOT more detail than the "hope n change" bullshit he got away with the first time. There are a lot of stones that can be thrown at him now with his record, and the more candidates throwing them the better.

Another ignorant scrunt whom the MFM and entertainment cocksuckers portrayed dishonestly. Having Julia Roberts, who is dumb as a fucking plank, portray somebody who was so goddamn ugly she had to pay bikers to pound her rancid gash (speaking of which, what's your junk doing in a car door?) was hilarious. Plus the portrayal of the court case and the subsequent findings were out and out lies.

NYT is reporting they are going back. The theory being that now that Gov. Walker's poll numbers are allegedly upside down they can go back, lose the battle but win the political war.
First, that's their excuse. Likely their will is broken and they're looking for any excuse to return. Declaring victory usually does it.
Second, it doesn't matter when they go back. They announced that they will eventually give in. The protesters actually thought that the Dems would stay away forever until Walker caved. They've got to be suicidal right now on the streets of Madison.
Third, Walker's numbers aren't that low (and in suspicious polls, besides). After the sky doesn't fall and the budget comes into line, they'll go back up. It's a long time to 2012, let alone 2014.
Fourth, good luck to the Dems on running a campaign without dues forced from public sector unions. Not only that, but there are annual certifications, so they won't be able to raise dues without having the membership revolt to kick them out.

Barack Obama and the Cavalcade of Naivete
"All the forces that we see building in Egypt are the forces that should be naturally aligned with us. Should be aligned with Israel." (Obama)
All the forces "should be" aligned with the United States and Israel! Well, maybe they "should be" but they aren't. In fact, it is the exact opposite: all the forces that we see building in Egypt are forces that in fact are not aligned with the United States and Israel. Here we see the arrogance of someone who tells people in other countries what they should think instead of analyzing what they do think.
Of course, what happens--and we see this quite vividly--is that the intelligence agencies and media rewrite reality to say that these people are moderate because that's what the president expects.
And so when Obama says:
"I'm actually confident that 10 years from now we're going to be able to look back and say that this was the dawning of an entirely new and better era. One in which people are striving not to be against something but to be for something."
Remember those words. He has absolutely no understanding of the Arabic-speaking world, the Muslim-majority world, or the Middle East whatsoever. How are these new regimes going to stay in power, smite their rivals, and make up for not delivering the material goods to their people? What is the world view of these forces? How do they perceive America, the West, and Israel? These are the questions that should be asked, and answered, in order to understand what the world will look like in a decade.

Recycled from the ONT: Prescription for a long life: Work hard. Don't retire early.
If that's what I have to do to live long, I hope to check out early. If I can get a better quality of life now, in exchange for some of those final Alzheimers and Depends Diapers years, then so be it. I'd rather retire at 50, enjoy booze and sloth, and die at 70 than slave away and sweat and worry for years on end and die a withered husk at 80 or 90. Long life is of less value than a pleasant life.

Michael Moore:
snipped~
The article describes two writers who worked on Mr. Moore's television show TV Nation and learned that Mr. Moore did not want them joining the Writers Guild.
One day during production on the first season of the show, Moore called two of his writers into his office. It was, for both of them, their first job in television, and they had been hired with the title of associate producer. They were not members of the Writers’ Guild, the powerful union for writers in movies and TV, and thus were not receiving health benefits, and would not qualify later for a percentage of video and rerun sales. “Michael said, ‘I’m getting a lot of heat from the union to call you guys writers and pay you under the union rules,’ ” Eric Zicklin, one of the associate producers, says. “ ‘I don’t have the budget for that. But if they keep coming down on me that’ll mean I’ll only be able to afford one of you and the other one’s gotta go.’ ”

Morning, all! Rainy and foggy here in NH this morning, but it's not SNOW, so I'm counting my blessings. Just hoping the rain mixed with snowmelt doesn't cause a ton of flooding, which it's done quite a bit in recent years.
I come bearing news of Jacque Chirac, who is about to go on trial in France on charges of corruption for allegedly abusing his power as mayor of Paris to give jobs to political supporters. I say, "Hell, if that's a chargeable offense in France, Bammy McJugEars better NEVER go visit Sarkozy again."
Jacques Chirac will be the first former French leader since World War II to stand trial when hearings begin today on charges he abused his role as mayor of Paris to reward party loyalists.
The heart of the claims against Chirac, 79, lies in a sense of political entitlement many French leaders have felt since long before mobs lopped off the heads of the elite, said anti- corruption activist Daniel Lebegue.
“Louis XIV said, ‘The state, it is me,’ and still today, many political leaders in France think their functions let them award privileges,” said Lebegue, president of Transparency International in France. Chirac “thought he was a sort of sovereign, a monarch. He had no checks on him.”

Naturally the collaborator-in-chief would do this. If Obie were the god he thinks he is, the Muz would be his chosen people. He's letting them know that they can maintain their separate society within the US, allowed to grow and metastasize across our territory and throughout our institutions unmolested until they are ready to strike. Of course, he has to do so in a way that is, ultimately, designed to reassure the rest of us. When he says to them that they are not a part of the terrorist problem (a lie) he's really telling all of US.

First Lady Michelle Obama on Monday tops a new poll purporting to show how warmly Americans regard their leaders, besting even her husband President Barack Obama. Mrs Obama scored a chart-topping "warmth rating" of 60.1 degrees, three degrees hotter than the president, who came in fourth place in the Quinnipiac University "feeling thermometer" with 56.5 degrees. The survey asked voters to rate leaders from 0 to 100 degrees on the "feeling thermometer" with the highest numbers reflecting the warmest feelings.
At 59.2 degrees, former president Bill Clinton came in second place on the thermometer, while New Jersey's popular Republican governor Christopher Christie, virtually unknown on the national level one year ago, was third with 57 degrees.

I had it set at 4x3 #2 setting on the sat receiver and screen size setting number 2 on my Sanyo TV. Theoretically 16x9 is supposed to be the correct size for HD but if I choose that it cuts off the bottom of the screen on all the available screen selections.
I wish the damn satellite receiver people would put a damn old fashioned test pattern in their diagnostics page. It would make this crap a lot simpler instead of hunting all over the place for a HD video with something round in it.

38 I think that could be a misnomer; there is working and there is working at something: my great grandma never suffered a day of dementia, didn't wear a Depends until the last 2 months of her life, and lived to be over 100 (which embarassed the poor woman greatly, but hey, she was pushing 102, if anybody is excused a touch of incontinence, it's somebody that old). She was very active and engaged with life up until the last six months. Quite a lot of people in my family do live well over 75, often into their late 90s -- and don't seem to suffer much old age related maladies. They do work, but it isn't working-working; usually they run errands, do odd jobs, make and sell things, babysit -- it does seem to keep them interested in life.
I think it's a bit of a shame that older people are shunted off to nursing homes or shut ins so early in life -- it is a loss for the rest of society, and it hastens their early demise imho. They really deserve a break from the actual work force, but that shouldn't mean the end of everything.

The key to the Fleabaggers going back is that they don't want consequences:
Mr. Miller declined to say how soon the Democratic senators, who left for Illinois on Feb. 17, would return. He said the group needed to deal with several issues first—including the resolution Senate Republicans passed last week that holds the Democrats in contempt and orders police to detain them when they return to Wisconsin

OT: I have a great idea for a new TV channel. KillTV. It would be nothing but 24/7 FOIA videos and live feeds from military units around the world. You'd sanatize the feed of any information, maybe add a delay. You could partner with the NFL to have their announcers on there, and work in sponsers as well: "And it looks like they're sending in the dogs. BTW, this episode of KillTV is brought to you by Purina Dog Chow."

Here is a constructive idea. Fox could give a show to very credible conservative columnist Kathleen Parker where she can do her thing for an hour, without being verbally harassed by Eliot Spitzer, which thank goodness has ended. Fox could give a primetime show to Judge Andrew Napolitano on its main network, and find a true libertarian host in the style of Ron Paul.
Fox should end the welfare programs and de facto campaign donations to Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, and end the hate entertainment of Glenn Beck, and find serious conservatives and libertarians to host its shows.

Physicists do horrendous math. When Newton moved mass inside the differential operator he did so assuming that mass was a constant and that it was not a violation of his own Rules of Calculus to do so. Of course mass turns out to vary with velocity - so it is not a legal Calculus operation to move it inside the differential operator. Physicists say this doesn't matter because God makes all the same math errors as they do - or something. Physics looks very different and makes a lot more sense if you follow the mathematically correct f = ma path to its logical conclusions.

Think that mass is essentially constant for small enough values of v relative to c which is just about any workable speed from a physical reality perspective. So for a scientist with limited test equipment, I didn't go to far astray.
Posted by: The ghost of Isaac N at March 07, 2011 08:47 AM (DCpHZ)
The physicists tell us that is because we are naively applying F=dp/dt or something. Funny, when you use F=ma naively you get all the right answers. I don't know any other physics equations that give the wrong answers when you apply them naively - just F=dp/dt. Maybe it is because of naive application - or maybe it is because the Physicists are just wrong, and F=dp/dt is just an incorrect equation.

In my high school physics class, negative acceleration meant an object was slowing down. In my college physics class, negative acceleration meant the object was speeding up going in the left direction as opposed to the right direction. My mind could not accept negative acceleration still meant speeding up.
