Worth noting is the increasing daylight, which triggers spring activity in many animals through a process known as photoperiodism. Sunlight entering the eye triggers glands to release hormones, setting the stage for the spring mating ritual.

31 I read this yesterday somewhere.....it's from People Magazine.  Warner Bros. may have issued a terse statement about his firing but they wrote his lawyer an 11 page letter about Chuck....

In page after page of damning language, the producers of Two of and Half Men justify firing Charlie Sheen by painting the actor as a self-destructive, sick addict who's deteriorating mentally and physically while scorning those who have tried to help him.

In an unusually personal appeal, an attorney for Warner Bros. Television tells the actor's lawyer in a letter that those close to the star should "focus your energies on what no one so far has been able to do: get your client the sustained, rigorous and effective treatment he so urgently needs.

"It is clear that [Sheen] has no intention of agreeing to the intensive evaluation and treatment that his condition requires," says the letter.

"It is also clear he does not believe he has a problem and that he will continue to conduct himself in a destructive manner."

The 11-page letter from Warner Bros. counsel John Spiegel to Sheen's lawyer Marty Singer is accompanied by 10 pages of links from PEOPLE.com and other media outlets reporting on Sheen's recent statements and behavior.

32 Has the media been shamed yet for their Sheen coverage?  I saw an article the other day that compared them to the English aristocrats who used to amuse themselves by touring Bedlam and looking at the insane people chained there.

Rush picked that up and said something about it yesterday.

Sheen is just the latest celebrity distraction used to avoid covering what Obama is doing.  There is only so much air time,  you know,  and if Sheen's ramblings fill it,  then we don't get any coverage of gas prices.

33 Zach Greinke's Bobblehead: "Then he went on vacation and left Mika in charge."

Well, at least she can get the DNC talking points straight from the teleprompter now rather than trying to hide them from Scarborough on her blackberry. It's really more efficient that way.

But, yes, Mika is the best ornament in cable news.

Excerpt:

In a new video released Tuesday morning by conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe, Schiller and Betsy Liley, NPR’s director of institutional giving, are seen meeting with two men who, unbeknownst to the NPR executives, are posing as members of a Muslim Brotherhood front group. The men, who identified themselves as Ibrahim Kasaam and Amir Malik from the fictitious Muslim Education Action Center (MEAC) Trust, met with Schiller and Liley at Café Milano, a well-known Georgetown restaurant, and explained their desire to give to $5 million to NPR because, “the Zionist coverage is quite substantial elsewhere.”

41 3 arrested in Chillicothe with goose in car

Chillicothe police stopped the suspects on North High Street Saturday and observed the goose standing in the rear cargo area of their vehicle, an incident report shows.

The driver claimed the goose came from the home of one of her passengers, but then confessed to feeding the bird before they used a net to capture it, the report states.

The passengers gave conflicting statements, including the claim that they brought the goose to one home to clean it before releasing it at another.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. military is too white and too male at the top and needs to change recruiting and promotion policies and lift its ban on women in combat, an independent report for Congress said Monday.

Seventy-seven percent of senior officers in the active-duty military are white, while only 8 percent are black, 5 percent are Hispanic and 16 percent are women, the report by an independent panel said, quoting data from September 2008.

"This problem will only become more acute as the racial, ethnic and cultural makeup of the United States continues to change," said the report from the Military Leadership Diversity Commission, whose more than two dozen members included current and former military personnel as well as businessmen and other civilians.

The Diversity Commission is an independent panel with no agenda comrades

54 Washington Times:

The Obama administration is poised to ban offshore oil drilling on the outer continental shelf until 2012 or beyond. Meanwhile, Russia is making a bold strategic leap to begin drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. While the United States attempts to shift gears to alternative fuels to battle the purported evils of carbon emissions, Russia will erect oil derricks off the Cuban coast...

Now Russia is using oil exploration to establish a new presence in the Western Hemisphere. It recently concluded four contracts securing oil-exploration rights in CubaÂ’s economic zone in the Gulf of Mexico. A Russian-Cuban joint partnership will exploit oil found in the deep waters of the Gulf.

Cuba has rights to the area in which drilling will be conducted under an agreement the Carter administration recognized. From RussiaÂ’s perspective, this is another way to gain leverage inside what traditionally has been AmericaÂ’s sphere of influence. It may not be as dramatic as the Soviet Union attempting to use Cuba as a missile platform, but in the energy wars, the message is the same. Russia is projecting power into the Western Hemisphere while the United States retreats. The world will not tolerate a superpower that acts like a sidekick much longer.

65 The Craigslist "body count" meme is an MFM FUD tactic, out of spite for Craigslist making their classified-ad revenue stream dry up.  Whoever posted the headline should know better than to fall for it.

A handful of crimes, out of the literally millions upon millions of interactions that get set up through the web site every year, is not something to be alarmed about.  A CL competitor sponsored a "study" last year based on media reports that found 330 crimes, including twelve murders and 105 robberies or assaults, to CL.  But an SFGate blogger reported that CL has 53 million unique visitors every month.  On a per capita basis, he calculated the crime rate as "11,000 times safer than Oakland."

There were bad actors back when people sold things through the newspaper classifieds, the Penny Saver, and bulletin boards at the laundromat too.  People who are scared of Craigslist are big pussies.
