From the more stupid polls category:
Poll: Americans Losing Faith in Free Market
The research claims 59% of Americans agreed "strongly" or "somewhat" that the free market was the best system for the world's future. ThatÂ’s down from 80% in 2002 when the company said it began polling AmericansÂ’ faith in capitalism.
We haven’t had a “free market” in this country since the early 1800s. The damn article even mentions the clash between Hamilton and Jefferson over the central banks. Hamilton was a firm believer in the “American System”, as was Adams, and then Abraham Lincoln. Andrew Jackson gave them a brief setback when he killed the federal bank, but he reversed that with the threat to invade SC over the tariff issue which was a central tenant of the system. (tax the shit out of one segment of the country to fund the friends of the administration’s “improvement projects”.)
But still even with government interference in these kinds of projects individual markets were still fairly open. It wasnÂ’t until the early 1900s and the progressive era that the government actually did start with the massive interference in business and trade.
Now you can’t wipe your ass without running afoul of some government regulation or tax, usually both. So it is no wonder that the public doesn’t trust the “free market”. The MFM tells them they have one but it doesn’t work because it is not a free market and hasn’t been one for over a hundred years.
Currently I would say the U.S. is 50% socialist, 30% fascist, 15% communist, and 5% capitalist.

Social Justice Scrunt from Detroit wants a massive bailout
Hey beatch, Detroit has been living off of the federal tit for almost 50 years. That is why it is a shithole. I have a recommendation for you. Disincorporate the city government and return Detroit to its origins. No city government would be better than the government you have had since the mid 60s.

If you think lawmakers are backing off on lucrative deals for union gov workers think again
Cuomo in NY is having to shake the veto stick at the NY legislature. This is the very reason why government workers should not be allowed to unionize. Even in the face of bankruptcy they are still demanding increases from corrupt legislatures.

More on that "good deal" we got
I alluded to the fact that the Dems stash a lot of their socialist spending in defense bills to hide them and assure passage. Well it seems that even special bills like the one to finish funding for the 2011 year and the military are not immune. That cut that was actually an increase had the defense portion larded up with pork. Gee, who would have guessed.
I pray that a number of amendments will be called for to eliminate this kind of shit from the bill.

I swear, how many times must the Supreme Court tell them this is unconstitutional? Perhaps that Article V convention needs an amendment that requires that all new bills that are introduced on subjects already overruled by the courts must first be validated through the courts before they can be submitted.
Posted by: Vic-------------
Actually, they already implemented this here in Illinois on the 2010 Illinois tax forms. So, for now, it is up to each individual to keep track of things bought on the internet and calculate your own taxes . I entered ZERO.
I'm not sure if it is unconstitutional.. many online stores that have a brick and mortar presence do indeed charge the appropriate state sales tax already.

Nearly every State in the union has that now. It is called a "use tax" to get around the court ruling. What the court ruled was that a State could not force businesses in another State that had no stores in the offending State to withhold taxes for them.
So to get around that the States say if you buy something out of State you must pay a tax to "use" it in State. That meets the requirements of the court by bypassing the sales tax issue. The problem for the greedy States is that almost nobody self-reports this "use".
So the States have been trying to get around this for decades. In this case by just thumbing its nose at the Supreme Court.
Democrats only believe in following court rulings when they are in their favor.

The new law has to do with out-of-state internet retailer collecting sales tax for Uncle Pat, since his citizenry doesn't seem to want to pay the 'use' tax. Which of course the business are not required to do, unless they have a 'physical presence' in the state.
Come on, now: don't YOU want to give Uncle Pat some more $$ to spend? It'll help 'save our state'! Bwhahaha..

The whole business of keeping power/wealth in the family has been a problem for those people for a long, long time. Clannish primitives... But regardless - inbreeding only makes the root problem a bit worse. Fundamentally it is still the ideology itself that is a problem. It's not like the back-woods inbreds in Appalachia are running around beheading folk and acting like loons.
Islam is the root problem. Not genetics, not western oppression, not the Joooos, nor any other thing that is blamed for the vile depravity of the Muz. It is what they believe that is the issue. Indeed, until the religion itself can be destroyed, we should be glad that those people are stunting their own development. It helps to keep them weak and stupid. That's the best kind of enemy to have.

Yep, if we didn't have Great Depression II going on right now we would have had rotating blackouts during last summer in large portions of the country.
There are two major controllers for electricity usage. The largest is the economy and the next largest is the weather, primarily in the Summer.
Note that home lighting falls nowhere in that mix.

Hey,
I'm trying to find the name of an obscure late-night talk show that was on in 1994. All I remember is that it had as hosts three to five 20/30-something yuppies discussing current events, including politics as I remember when they talked about the '94 midterm results; they had on Ann Richardson as a guest soon after she lost her Governorship to Bush. I also remember talking about the controversy around defunding of the NEA. It may have only actually run a few months before being pulled. Not sure if it was on a broadcast or cable channel.
Any idea?

Sure, a whole cloth Indian "tribe". Native American tribes are already federally decreed Wards of the State, all tribes accounted for and allied within established councils.
Consider, it wasn't the American tribes' idea or desire to be declared wards of the state by federal authorities. And breaking any final federal treaties with American tribes granting their sovereign status within tribal reservation grants would illustrate again that "Indian Giver" applies to Washington D.C. negotiations; "give" some "right" that is subsequently and arbitrarily revoked.

I've never understood why people do them so late. I did mine on Feb 15.
They're so easy to do now with programs like turbotax. Also the IRS is increasing the risk of audit if you file paper returns. It is there way of discouraging paper returns.

It's the last vote of the day tomorrow. I also think someone can be unhappy and vote either way:
(1) I made a promise, the Speaker is a bad leader, this is a bad deal, let's go for a shutdown because we'll get a better deal this time
(2) I made a promise, the Speaker is a bad leader, this is a bad deal, let's not vote for a shutdown because I don't trust Boehner to manage it well
The last clause is the practical reality that occurs tomorrow and both sides of the debate are taking a chance as to whether Boehner will be better or worse this time. Or have their found someone else?

I like Turbotax overall. However, it screwed up my returns this year when I allowed it to try to figure my local taxes (I get to file income tax in two different cities - hooray!). Once it became clear that this was a mistake, I tried to back my local calculations out of the State return - but the software wouldn't do it no matter what I tried. I had to fiddle around with it manually and print a paper return to file via snail mail, because the program kept pulling up "errors" on one of the local forms that were not errors at all and it would not let me e-file the state return until those were "fixed."
So, in short, don't let Turbotax mess with your local taxes.

(1) Keep domestic spending low
(2) Cut defense spending
(3) Reform Medicare and Medicaid
(4) Reform the tax code
I'm guessing #1 happens by way of #2, reforming entitlements through emphasizing the already-enacted changes in ObamaCare, and reforming the tax code to steal from those in the middle and upper-class tax brackets.

This shit enrages me. It's not that I advocate sending our army all over the world to stop every act of Muslim aggression and murder - we'd never be done. But this double standard, where we basically tell the world it's OK with us if they kill Christians and Jews with impunity yet they better not harm a hair on some muslim's head, is possibly the worst idea in human history.
We spend many lives and vast treasure to save worthless, barbaric muslim scum who hate us and would happily kill us. Yet when those who would normally be sympathetic to our side are murdered by our enemies, we do NOTHING. Imagine - we could live in a world where when US troops went in to stop barbarity the rescued victims were genuinely grateful and didn't immediately turn around and start trying to kill us. Wouldn't that be novel? All we'd have to do to realize that glorious vision would be to stop helping POS muslims, and START helping Jews and Christians (and even the animists, for that matter). Hell - if we'd do nothing more than simply ARM them we'd be doing a terrific service to humanity and civilization.
The US government is, increasingly, on the side of overt evil. I just hope God remembers that it does not represent We the People any more and cuts us some slack.

Ben, I have actually had the electronic version worked out months ago. However, I owe them more money in addition to all the withholding + quarterly payments.
Why in the hell should I want to send them the money any early than absolutely required? I just have to make sure that I allow time for the rural route carrier to get it to the post office for a date stamp before the due date.
And the reason I owe them instead of breaking even is because the SOBs keep changing the damn law after I calculate my quarterly payments.

News flash: You do owe sales taxes (if your state has them) when you order a taxable item over the Intertubes. The hulabaloo has always been how about a state can collect those taxes.
No, Illinois is not doing anything groundbreaking for 2010. The exact procedure varies from state to state, but there are ways the state governments try to get that money from the consumer. Most often, there is an item on the state income tax return for such sales.
A retailer must have nexus (legal presence) in a particular state to be forced to collect sales taxes on purchases by people of that state. If A has a store in B, then A has nexus in B. That's about the only point on which the state governments and ecommerce retailers agree. Not surprisingly, the states have a much broader definition of nexus than do the merchants.
Illinois is among several states that have passed laws declaring that having affiliates based in the state is sufficient for nexus. Internet retailers in general, and Amazon in particular, claim that these laws are "unconstitutional", but none has yet to be tossed out. Amazon then dumps affiliates based in one of these states to avoid collecting sales tax

Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Mike Lee (Utah) previewed their proposal on Fox News, saying that it will put the entitlement program on a long-term path to solvency without raising taxes.
The senators said that their plan would gradually raise the retirement age from 67 to 70 and would not affect individuals age 56 or older. Graham said that the proposal uses the same formula Congress used to raise the retirement age from 65 to 67, so that people born in 1970 would become the first group to have a retirement age of 70.
If anybody still had jobs, they might be worried....

Got a problem with militant blacks intimidating voters at a poll? Too bad
Got white people discriminated against? Too bad, they deserve it
Got people in jail only allowed to have a bible to read? Run, scream, let lose the dogs of lawfare! It’s a violation of “free speech”. Only in the Obama DOJ could a failure to allow reading material be a speech issue.
I think a Constitutional amendment is in order to forbid ANY level of government from enjoining a civil suit except in the case of a contract violation.
