Nowhere in it does he own up on Romneycare. He makes a half-sass hint on “State” solutions but no more. On top of that what he advocates his “different” healthcare regulations. Government regulations really are at the heart of our healthcare problems in this country now.

Remember when tiny Tim said we didn't need a debt ceiling increase because of larger tax revenues?
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Treasury Department auctioned $56 billion in new debt Tuesday and Wednesday, enough to take the U.S. over its federal debt ceiling when the three- and 10-year notes settle on Monday.
So, as everyone here said, he was lying. Do we get to see someone charged with a federal crime for borrowing money not authorized to do? Ah DOJ has holder so thatÂ’s a big nugatory. Well will we get to see Issa subpoena TurboTax Tim for a grilling on how he is violating the law? Hahahahahaha, Issa is pussing out on everything.
We are boned. Debt limit, what debt limit. If a Republican were in office now he would have already been impeached for this kind of shit.

What a joke. How about first gaining control of the RINO Republicans in the legislature who used to be Dems and still believe in Tax and Spend, then talk about gold standard. Besides, look at NC. Someone just went to jail for that.

I hope nobody though CRA was going away and being allowed to die out with little fanfare because it caused the start of the problems leading to the financial collapse. We have seen continued reports on and off on individual items but here they want another push. Guess where this push is coming from? If you said the racist DOJ you would be correct.
This is what happens when congress investigates problems that it caused, more of the same. Same thing with the 9-11 hearings. That was another Bush failure. He should have fought that tooth and nail and appointed a panel of security experts with a person trained in Root Cause Analyses acting as moderator. I would have volunteered. I can tell you now, establishing another huge federal bureaucracy to hide behind probably would not have been high on my proposed solutions.

Amen. This would accomplish nothing other than to encourage the federal government to seize privately held gold again.
The gold standard is just one more "magic bullet" fantasy that will solve nothing. Indeed, making our currency convertible to a commodity in a world of fait currency is to invite exploitation. It's been done to us before - France was draining our gold supply with a vengeance back in the bad old days.
The real killer here is that if a state goes to a "gold standard" that may mean that they can demand payment for state services in gold, or those making claims to the state can demand gold. That will quickly be proven unworkable. If I have to make dollars at my job just to I can buy gold and then use said gold to go pay my property taxes or my car registration and such, then I'm moving the hell out of that state in a hurry.

Students See Graphic Photos on Career Day
KELLER, Texas - Career day at a North Texas elementary school took a turn after children were exposed to some very graphic photos.
Denee Stockman said the presentation at her sonÂ’s school on the alternative medical field of iridology started out interesting because the guest speaker was talking about eye color and dominant genes. But then it got disturbing, she said.
She said during the talk last Friday the third graders at KellerÂ’s Friendship Elementary saw things they never should have seen, including the image of worms coming out of a nude womanÂ’s butt and worms in a manÂ’s exposed brain .

The person trained in Root Cause Analysis would help in the "bamboozaling" aspect. I would trust a paenl such as this much more than ANY government panel.

Totally agree--there is a large pool of civilian experts in a variety of fields (retired contractors, ex-military, academics, etc.) that could have worked independently to evaluate 9/11. Problem is that government is so compartmented that it would be hard for any such group to operate (see the problems the Congress has with subpoena power) and get access to information. Besides each "Agency" has a vested interest in obscuring both their capabilities, sources, and involvement in anything.

When I was in the 7th grade many many years ago we were herded into the school auditorium to watch an 8 mm film about the evils of communism.
It was brought to us by the local John Birch Society. It turned out to be about the civil war going on over in Algeria and it showed naked and dismembered bodies from explosions.
After a few of the girls ran screaming from the auditorium the principle came in and watched about 30 seconds of the film and shut it off; ran them out of the building.

I'm an Ohioan, and therefore don't run around making fun of other states' roads. We make glass houses; Mich. is full of stones.
The Michigan attitude about road construction has long been, "Cars? Hell, we make 'em here." The best roads in Michigan are the unpaved ones. They at least get graded once a year, and once you invest in a four-wheel-drive you'll probably live. The same can't be said for I-75.

NYPD anti-terror big booted
Inspector John Nicholson, the former second-in-command of the NYPD's Joint Terrorism Task Force, was transferred this week to Patrol Borough Brooklyn South after he defied the wishes of David Cohen, deputy commissioner of intelligence, according to law-enforcement sources.
Last week, after bin Laden was killed, Cohen told Nicholson to bring him the FBI's latest dossier on him. But Nicholson refused his superior's order, citing the federal agency's policy of not allowing such documents to leave its office.
Nicholson, who has a background in Navy intelligence, will now oversee day-to-day crime-busting.

That's a shame. Sounds like someone had actually taken the time to create a program showing what communism is really all about. May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Wholesale costs in the U.S. rose more than forecast in April, led by higher prices for food and fuel.
The 0.8 percent increase in the producer-price index compares with the 0.6 percent median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The so-called core measure, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, increased 0.3 percent, more than projected.

People in different state have different values, and should be free to promote those values in whatever legal ways they choose and can afford. Other states can watch those experiments and then determine whether they want to try the same thing (in MA's case, none of its neighbors wanted to try their own variation of RomneyCare), or not.
Federally mandated Obama care is a fundamentally different matter. The federal government should have its own, very limited role, and outside of that the states should be free to do what they want based on state-wide votes. Overeager national representatives trying to dictate to the rest of the country, activist judges usurping the role of the legislatures, and Presidents Gone Wild® are not how it's supposed to work. The Tenth Amendment is now taught in law school to be "dead letter" law, but the founders knew what they were doing and really couldn't have been any clearer in how our government was supposed to function:
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
If Madison were alive to see what we've done to his beloved Constitution it would kill him all over again.

The NTSB generally brings in lots of outside experts to sit on their panels. The Government had to investigate; a seperate external panel - fine, but instead of standing up a panel of politicians - the Government should have used their own experts and expanded their writ to the management, intelligence, and security aspects of the problem. They routinely eviscerate their own management at the FAA and airline/aircraft industry stakeholders with well supported critical analysis.

'Homegrown' threat: Two suspected terrorists arrested in New York trying to buy weapons in plot to 'attack synagogue'Two men have been arrested on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack as they tried to buy guns, a grenade and other weapons, it has emerged.
Officers seized the pair late last night in Midtown, as they allegedly tried to sell drugs in exchange for guns.
One of the men, said to be in his 20s, has a criminal record for narcotics, and it has emerged they already had weapons in their possession.
According to a police source, both men are 'homegrown' radicalised Muslims of North African origin, a scenario law enforcement officials warned against in the wake of Bin Laden's death.
Officials have not yet released the men's names, or any details about the location of the planned attack.
The NYPD's intelligence division are said to have tracked the men for some time, before launching a sting yesterday.
It's rare for the department to lead a terror investigation as they more usually provide a supporting role to the FBI.
In a further twist, the case is being handled by the New York state District Attorney, Cyrus Vance.
The pair will appear in criminal court in lower Manhattan today, and are likely to face state terrorism rather than federal charges, the New York Post reports.
It is understood the joint FBI-NYPD anti-terrorism task force were aware of the investigation, but chose not to become involved.

People are always pointing at "Freedom of Religion" in our constitution, as if implying that the founders were ambivalent about it. No, they were too keenly aware of it. It has long been my opinion that what the referred to as "religion" we today refer to as Denomination. They were well aware of the religious strife which occurred between denominations, and they sought to diffuse it. With each state having it's own official state religion, (but all Christian) it was the only thing they could do.
I very much doubt they ever considered the possibility that this Umbrella of tolerance would be extended to other religions, or Atheism. If on the other hand, that WAS their intention, then they got that one wrong.

Meh. 0.3% inflation for the month is still pretty minimal (a roughly 4% annual pace). We had an average of about 6% through the 80's and things weren't so horrible.
There are a million reasons to oppose Obastard and his policies, but hyperventilating about inflation isn't doing us a lot of good. M3 is still way down, and isn't growing much since no one has any desire to lend money.
If we want to fight the increase in the cost of goods, we need to attack the supply problems. That's where we need to fight Obie's bad policies, and the way to prove to Americans that we know how to do something more than just complain about how the deficit is too high (which it is). Monetary policy changes aren't going to do much good.

In case you're interested the HITW camp has a page with a pretty good selection of pictures and videos (both from previous years' rides and about the camp in general and Hospital Outreach Program in particular) - here it is. Luckily, there are no pictures of me from the 2009 ride floating around (if there were, I'd be the hairy, somewhat Ewokish looking guy with the "modesty flab" protecting the Moronettes from swooning over my 12-pack abs).
And of course, you can still donate if you want. Here's the link. Anytime up to May 27th is o.k. (the ride is on the Sunday before Memorial Day, fittingly enough). Here's the donations page link.

Steven McGraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told a House panel Wednesday that the “barbarism” of the Mexican drug cartels is worse than that of the radical Islamist terror group Al Qaeda.
“International terrorists engage in organized crime to support their terrorist activities,” said McGraw, “whereas the Mexican cartels are now engaging in terrorist activities to support their criminal enterprises and organized crime activities -- and the barbarism of al Qaeda has nothing on these Mexican cartels.”
"They're involved in kidnappings, extortions, murders," he said. "They've butchered 36,000 Mexican nationals and some American citizens."
McGraw testified at a hearing of the House Homeland Security Oversight, Investigation, and Management Subcommittee.
As CNSNews.com previouslyreported, the 36,000-plus drug-cartel related killings in Mexico since 2006 include 1,200 children and teenagers. Also, more civilians were killed in the border town of Juarez (near El Paso, Texas) than in all of Afghanistan in 2010.

None of them would have thought that so many liberal ideas would have taken root here and been codified into overarching Federal legislation and regulation.
The founders knew the excesses that could occur from the power of "government supported denomination" and wished to ensure that if it occurred, it occurred at the state (local) level where it could be remedied by the citizens of the state (Quakers/Anglican/etc.).
They also made the reasonable (for then) assumption, that Christianity would be the religious backdrop for all religions, thus a sense of tolerance could be expected. They never envisioned government support of a religion that declares war on non-adherents and death to apostates. Too bad they never met Saul Alinsky or had to deal with CAIR.

Their weakness was the inability to see what would happen down the road from their policies of a strong central government. That is why the founders like Jefferson were so much better.

This morning on NPR:
During the 1992 campaign when the magic bus tour came South thru Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi Bill Clinton stopped in Louisiana one morning. In that state with high unemployment and a moribund oil industry he said that if elected he would get the EPA to provide regulatory relief to the oil industry and get people back to work. That very afternoon, in Mississippi, he promised to crack down on those evil greedy polluting oil companies. NPR reported on this by playing those two audio clips and then moving on to the next story without comment.
It is that same tight lipped, frustrated, relatively unbiased reporting that I head from them this morning when they reported on the Democrats plan to reduce gas prices by raising taxes on the oil companies.

Bedbugs with 'superbug' germ found
Atlanta -- Hate insects? Afraid of germs? Researchers are reporting an alarming combination: Bedbugs carrying a staph "superbug."
Canadian scientists detected drug-resistant staph bacteria in bedbugs from three hospital patients from a downtrodden Vancouver neighborhood.
Bedbugs have not been known to spread disease, and there's no clear evidence that the five bedbugs found on the patients or their belongings had spread the MRSA germ they were carrying or a second less dangerous drug-resistant bacteria.

My big concern with him is his health. He had stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to his liver. After surgery and chemotherapy, he is in remission. (Not "cured" as he says.)
Stress can push someone back out of remission into active cancer again. Paul Tsongas is a prime example of this. So is Tony Snow, who ultmately died of a massive infection due to his overworked immune system.
I am very concerned that electing Cain would leave us with whoever he chose as a vice president in charge. Or a sitting president who is unable to function at top speed due to health.

Queens man in terror bust
A Queens man in his 20s was busted last night in a terror plot targeting New York, The Post has learned.
One source said the man was trying to buy a handgun and talked about attacking a synagogue.
In an usual move, Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance's office decided to prosecute after the FBI declined to get involved.
The suspect is an American-born Muslim.
They changed the entire article:
To this:
Two men arrested in relation to an alleged terror plot in New York City were of Moroccan and Algerian descent, FOX News reported Thursday.
Moroccan Mohammad Mamdouh and Algerian Ahmed Serhani were arrested late Wednesday and were expected to be charged under the state's terrorism laws. Both were American citizens.
In an unusual move, Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance's office decided to prosecute after the FBI declined to get involved, sources told The Post.
Serhani was a drugs dealer, FOX News reported, with a source saying he was allegedly trying to sell narcotics to finance the purchase of a weapon for a possible attack on a synagogue. However, the pair had not actually purchased any weapons at the time of their arrests.
The men were expected to be arraigned Thursday and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was scheduled to address the media at an afternoon news conference, The New York Times reported.
The plot was not in retaliation for the killing of Usama bin Laden, a source said, since it had been planned before his death.

Here's how gas prices work. I heard this from a gas station owner.
They watch crude prices very closely, futures and spot prices. When they see prices go up, they have to estimate how much their NEXT tank of gasoline is going to cost and raise their prices so that they can have the cash flow to buy it. They've already bought the gas in the ground so it's not a problem but they need the money for the next.
It's market forces at work.
When they see oil prices falling, well, they want to make money so they are hesitant to drop their prices but they are are watching very carefully the gas prices of the gas stations around them. If they want to sell a little more gas, they drop the price a little under what the guy across the street is charging. If they guy across the street drops his price first, he is likely to respond to keep his sales up and keep the customers in to buy soda and potato chips also. Sometimes all of the gas prices in a neighborhood are the same. Thet's when the owners are stuck in a game of chicken. Eventually one cracks and drops his prices and the others may follow.
It's market forces at work.
