Questions about NYC "terrorism" case
I wondered about this case when I first heard the charges. The tried to purchase guns and a couple of “inert” grenades from undercover cops. The terrorism charges come from listening in on a wiretap.
So what do we have? Illegal weapons purchase in NYC from a cop and a “conspiracy”. To me these are pretty thin charges. This could be another case of LEO abuse of statutes. This is something I, and others have been warning of. If we write a law eventually it will become used for anything they can stretch the case to fit.

More from Weasel Zipper “Stimulus stole my job”!
LOL, I have been saying for a long time that the failed porkulous program had no impact on the economy because it only boosted welfare rolls and government jobs that would not have been lost anyway.
Well now we have a study from OH State economists that say it actually destroyed jobs!

The headline screams:
Palestinians storm into Israel
15 reported killed during unprecedented demonstrationDoes that match with the picture of the “demonstrator” with the gun? These were orchestrated riots intended to provoke killing. The thing I thought was ironic was yesterday on Fox they were showing “demonstrators” with big keys which were supposed to be symbolic of Palestinians losing their homes when Israel was formed over 60 years ago. Of course the Fox talking head failed to:
Mention that none of these people had homes over 60 years ago because they had not been born yet,
There was no such thing as a country called “Palestine” 60 years ago and never has been.
When Israel was formed any people who were displaced from their homes were well compensated so that they could relocate.
Why is it that you never hear any of this shit from the talking heads?

This kind of shit is why SS is broke
WASHINGTON— The Obama administration will begin to tap federal retiree programs to help fund operations after the government loses its ability today to borrow more money from the public, adding urgency to efforts in Washington to fashion a compromise over the debt.
This is from a local paper! According to reports last week they already exceeded the debt limit. This in addition to the same lying shit-weasel saying a couple of weeks ago that there was no rush to raise the limit because we had additional tax revenue.
More fodder for the "what if" categories.

I guess this, although stupid as hell, is not as bad is what I read about in a book several weeks back called "Confederates in the Attic". It described hardcore reenactors who wqould lie on the side of the road, puffing themselves up, and staring into space to simulate the old Mathew Brady civil war photos of the dead on the battlefields.
They called it "bloating".

Meanwhile, at a mosque near you...
As usual, the key quote: Neighbors were surprised by the arrests and described Hafiz Khan and his family as “really quiet people.”
I find it funny that people are always surprised - what do they expect? That a bunch of traitors and terrorists would announce themselves, or go around stirring up petty troubles? It's the quiet ones that warrant the most careful watching.

WSJ says we hit the debt limit today
Posted by: Vic at May 16, 2011 07:34 AM (M9Ie6)
I'm sure that the limit will be raised - the immediate consequences of not doing so are too dire. However, this approach of letting the limit be hit, so that it becomes news, is a good idea. This kind of thing helps keep the situation in the public mind, and over time will drill in the idea that the government spends too much. The Reps need to keep things just barely bumping along while out of power, so that once/if our side regains power the people will be expecting cuts. It will be very important to tie those cuts to overspending by Obastard and his cronies in the congress.
However, that said, I still contend that the wiser approach to deficit cutting in the near term is to grow the economy by getting government foolishness out of the way. Drive down energy costs and get employment up - that will make America stronger, relieve considerable public misery, and as a side benefit will expand tax receipts to push down the deficit Once employment is up, then the spending can be cut with far less resistance.

Posted by: Miss Marple at May 16, 2011 03:51 AM (Fo83G)
That will depend largely on what side of the bed Kennedy gets up on. Under the "real" Constitution they can not take private property. However, as we have seen with the outrageous Kelo case, and others, they can do just about anything they want.
The key will be how they approach it. In Ireland they did not "take" retirement accounts, they enacted a special tax. SCOTUS has long ruled that Congress has the authority to tax pretty much as they want.

Senator Coburn:
Gingrich "is a super-smart man, but he doesn't know anything about commitment to marriage," he said of the thrice-married former House speaker. Thn nice thing about the debt ceiling is that even the general public pretty much understands the idea behind a credit card limit. This makes it a bit harder for the lying weasel politicians and financiers to obscure the fact that we are flat broke and are pushing up against the stops where any sane investor will not grant more credit. (Of course, the general public is also used to sub-prime mortgages as well.)
The only positive thing we can do is refuse to raise the debt ceiling and readjust our financial priorities.
The House Repubs can talk all day about cuts, but they WON'T happen with Dems in any semblance of power.
Short version--we are boned but good.

Tax Cheat Timmy is calling for Mass Graves Day here. If we don't authorize Congress to spend unlimited amounts of fiat money then, "We're all going to die!!! Die I tell ya!!11eleventy11!!"
Lately I've been seeing libtard posts that inevitably contain a phrase like 'the rethuglicans have built their party on scaring people'. I challenge anyone to line up the 'scare' stories of both parties next to the real world outcome of those scare stories as time unfolded and see which party was more accurate.
Here's a couple starters for ya:
1) grandma will be thrown in the street because she can't pay her rent
2) social security will spend more than it takes in on a geometrically increasing rate completely eating the federal budget
3) grandma will die because she won't get medical treatment
4) the price of goods will soar
5) green energy will replace fossil fuels
6) biofuels will stimulate a resurgence of the economy
7) oil and gas (in the ground) is running out, we HAVE to use renewables
bend over, this won't hurt [I'll give ya this one: both parties]

You can't seem to comprehend the English language or else you're misunderstanding what I'm saying out of utter stupidity or jackass stubbornness.
Since you've shown, so far, an utterly incomprehensible disrespect for anyone, including yourself, by your scatological mouthings I would guess that you amuse yourself at home by self-abuse, unless some other unfortunate (like your mother or sister) is available for you to scream at and threaten or deliver bodily harm to.
You strike me as the type of sad sack dickwad flailing his way through life because you have such an aching desire to have your daddy f*ck you again even though you've gotten too old for him that the pain of his rejection forces you to act out your miserable little fantasies on the first stranger that accidentally crosses your path.

They had better grab the fire arms first or there will be a big ole mess.
Posted by: Oldsailor's poet at May 16, 2011 07:46 AM (Jq4xH)
Indeed. That might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Not that I'm advocating using fire arms in an illegal manner, of course. But I certainly wouldn't lift a finger to stop my fellow citizens from expressing their displeasure with the government in that way.
Last year, when they were talking about taking the 401k accounts, I tried to close mine. I discovered at that time that the HR department had been telling me things that were not true - I wasn't able to close the account. I was ready to take the 10% hit just to get the money out (and out of the US, actually) but it was forbidden. Now whenever I see my statement I worry that it's all for nothing. Haven't put a dime into it since 2008, and don't plan to start.
The sickening thing is that for those who plan on working until the age of eligibility to withdraw funds, it's a great deal - if only you could trust the government not to screw around with it. You could greatly enhance your investment returns by deferring the taxes. Alas - it's going to be like SS - billed as a "savings" vehicle but in reality just another form of redistribution.

Think that ERISA rules keep a current employee from having actual control of his 401k funds (they thought of everything). I believe (and I am not a tax advisor) that if you quit the company, you can roll the 401k into an IRA over which you do have control as that is a (for now) private account.
If the country is still standing and fiat money has any value, the 401k/IRA is a good deal. Right now, I am beginning to view them (tax deferred accounts) as extensions of the SS program with the same degree of stability and security.

And still no drilling in the gulf, nor in ANWR, no new nuke plants, no subsidies for getting LFTRs started but plenty of subsidies for wind/solar crap, and fracking tech is under attack by the EPA. Small cities are even banning modern, efficient wood burners as fast as they can. These dumb f*cks in in the government are trying to send us back to the stone age.
When will people wake up and demand better energy policy? Perhaps when the hospitals are finally going without power? One thing is for sure - when the black outs start it will not be the law-abiding tax payers who still have power - it will be the ghetto scum. The State is always sure to keep the criminally inclined paid off - but those of us who labor to keep the system going are the first to encounter the shortages.
The libtards want us to live like Chinese slave laborers - dwelling on a campus built by our employer, sharing 1 room with 19 other people, unable to travel, fed on rice and maybe a few beans. Maybe some chicken skin once per month to keep our strength up.

Don't know if anyone caught the "disclaimer" by Durbin. He said something like "we need to expand our use of natural resources (drilling etc.), BUT in a responsible way!"
That's the tell to me, in other words, don't do anything anywhere near anybody any time by any technique to actually access our fossil resources, but we do expect you to file for permits, do all the EPA evaluations, and jump through multiple hoops before we deny you access to the "lease".
No subsidies for YOU!

If the country is still standing and fiat money has any value, the 401k/IRA is a good deal.
Posted by: Hrothgar at May 16, 2011 08:35 AM (yrGif)
I agree with you, but only if you're planning to retire at 60 or older. Indeed, the value would hold regardless of the status of "fiat money" because it's assets you own, and not cash. But I hate working and want out as early as possible. I'm hoarding every penny I can, and if my investments work out I may have enough to get out by 50, or at least close to that (hopefully I can keep what remains of my sanity that long - 13 years). If my cash is tied up in 401k that means my investment options are very limited (most of the funds in my current plan suck), and I take a terrible tax hit on every penny I take out before the approved age (which will probably go up soon). Portability is also a serious issue - I want to be able to leave the US quickly, with my money, if necessary.

Don't know if anyone caught the "disclaimer" by Durbin.
Yes, because a Senator from Illinois should have a direct say in where and when Alabama, Alaska, and Texas drill and dig.
Federalism. We need some.

God forbid something happens to the shuttle today.
We just want bad weather in Florida after it takes off, so that it lands at Edwards. Last time that happened, it stopped off here for the night. That was one week before we arrived and were staying across the street from the flight line.

Somebody should send Mika Brshitferbrains off the fucking set with orders to count to one hundred and not to come back until she can prove she did it. Scarblowhard would follow to stare at her cans. Barnicle would leave for not having enough people to plagiarize and soon enough the 2 or 3 viewers would lose interest.

It's great that in this day and age there are so many ways to communicate w/ those fighting overseas. I can't imagine having to wait months and months for a letter to arrive.
Mama AJ, he said they are great. I got most of them from this website. Jelly beans would probably be ok for now....but I imagine as it gets warmer they wouldn't make it in any recognizable form.
He told me he's temporarily no longer at the main camp but 1/2 hour helicopter ride away. I told him to get his ass back to camp and stay off helicopters! Will he listen to me? Noooooo.

Why the anonymous piss in NYPD Wheaties quotes? Isn't eating a turd sandwich while saying "No comment" a qualifying test at Quantico?

The SEC rule change in 2004 that changed how the SEC figured the net capital requirements is now seen as a significant mistake. Some journalists have mistakenly called this deregulation.
What these journalists fail to note is that this rule change was the antithesis of deregulation; rather it was the imposition of internationally coordinated regulatory standards—rules known as the “Basel Rules.” The Basel Committee rules were the consequence of years of work by the central bankers of the world and are based on the belief that a common set of global banking standards would result in more efficient use of capital and a more stable global financial system.
The Basel rules call for banks to have capital reserves of eight percent on a risk weighted basis.
Commercial loans had a risk weight of 100, so had to be backed by 8 percent capital in reserve. But AAA rated securities (like the securitized mortgage pools), had a substantially lower risk weight of 20 percent, so banks only had to have 1.6 percent capital in reserve to back investments in AAA rated securities. Basel I rules were replaced with Basel II rules in 2007, which allow for more use of internal bank models in the assessment of risk, something which we would all question today; but rules for residential mortgages did not change.) As I have explained, all those responsible for assessing the risks earned large fees from underestimating the risk and the investment banks ended up leveraging themselves far too highly. Swiss authorities are now raising the minimum capital requirements above those allowed under the Basel Rules.
The SEC rule change was one of the regulatory failures that contributed to the financial crisis.
But rather than a deregulation problem, this is a cautionary tale against agreement to internationally coordinated regulatory standards. If they substitute for prudential regulation, they could be a lot worse.

No, hence the sock. It'll be the start of better days for the people of Iran & the world when the various Mullahs, Persia uber Alles, 12ther's, etc. get theirs. Until they're gone they'll keep filling mass graves like Saddam did.

FTA: Mr. Drudge liked (the accusations of liberal bias), for obvious reasons.
This is apparently a reference to one of the libs' favorite straw men: Drudge's conservative bias. Drudge is an aggregator, and it is amazing how many liberals simply don't realize that, or know what it means. The idea of providing access to many different news reports on current affairs, without "framing", is so foreign to them that they literally do not understand the concept.
Does Drudge selectively link to conservative views? Any reasonable assessment would say that if he does, it is to a much lesser degree than your average local or national lib-rag, or TV talking-headwork. The common perception that Drudge is conservative derives mainly from the fact that he does not filter out news that reflects positively on conservatives, the way the majority of his competitors have conditioned their audiences to expect.
My favorite reaction to Drudge was from my liberal relative who objected to this non-filtering, saying that such opinions should not be "allowed". When I pointed out that Drudge links mostly to hard news (to the extent it can be found these days), she said that such news should not be allowed either!
Yep, she's a big Bill Clinton fan.
