A double-whammy came down today against gun rights advocates in California. First, the California Assembly voted to prohibit the open carry of unloaded handguns. Current law had allowed unloaded weapons to be carried openly in public.
"You are disarming our citizens" while doing little to disarm criminals, said Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, R-Gerber.
"It is not just the right to keep, it is the right to bear arms," said Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks.

(While I never expected amazing conservative things from Arnold, the worst thing about his governorship wasn't his liberal policies - it was the precedent of a foreign born Governor in California. That is going to bite them in the ass some day.)

Regarding the issue of Iran building missile silos in Venezuela, how many do you think Obastard will allow to be completed? My guess is: as many as they can afford to build. They mullahs are probably rushing to get as many contructed as possible, just in a case a real man is elected to be the next president.
Why oh why are we not just having Chavez assassinated? That is the only plan that makes any sense at all right now. We have ways of killing people that can make it look like a natural disease, for pete's sake. Of course, we couldn't even manage to kill Castro, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
I suppose what will happen is this - Obama will have a chat with the Iranians, and they'll agree not to build too many more missile silos in exchange for America's anti-ballistic missile tech and an agreement by the US to never build another defensive system again. That tech will then be sold to the Chinese immediately, and the Russians if they don't already have it.

And speaking of bullshit in CA
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A federal judge ruled Monday there is no constitutional right to carry a hidden gun in public — a decision that dealt a setback to gun-rights advocates who had challenged how much discretion California law enforcement officials have in issuing concealed weapons permits.
U.S. District Court Judge Morrison England Jr. in Sacramento supported a policy by Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto that says applicants must have a reason, such as a safety threat, to legally carry a concealed weapon in his county northwest of Sacramento.
Some of the Morons feel safe in supporting a gun grabber for office because even if he is a gun grabber he will never be able to get this kind of crap through.

Heh!
LOS ANGELES — Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has acknowledged that he fathered a child with a member of his household staff, a revelation that apparently prompted wife Maria Shriver to leave the couple's home before they announced their separation last week.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver jointly announced May 9 that they were splitting up after 25 years of marriage. Yet, Shriver moved out of the family's Brentwood mansion earlier in the year after Schwarzenegger acknowledged the child is his, The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger told the Times in a statement that also was sent to The Associated Press early Tuesday. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.
"I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time," the statement concluded. "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."
Schwarzenegger's representatives did not comment further. A spokesman for the former first lady told the Times she had no comment.
The Times did not publish the former staffer's name nor that of her child but said the woman worked for the family for 20 years and retired in January.
In an interview Monday before Schwarzenegger issued his statement, the former staffer said another man – her husband at the time – was the child's father. When the Times later informed the woman of the governor's statement, she declined to comment further.
The child was born before Schwarzenegger began his seven-year stint in public office
Heh! Heh! I'm sure the housekeeper "retired" with quite a nice payout.

As much as I've always hated the Dems, I never really believed they'd put an overt, open traitor in the White House. Alas - I have been proven wrong. I must have been projecting again - assuming they had at least some small shred of patriotism.
At the very least we should be openly stating that in response to this development we are re-tasking several of our hydrogen bomb laden ICBMs such that they point at Venezuelan cities. It should be made abundantly clear that a single missile launch, of any kind and toward any target, will result in immediate nuclear retaliation.
This is also just one more reason to achieve energy independence. We should be able to cut off all trade with Venezuela, and pressure others to do the same.

The newspaper on Tuesday quoted Sarkozy's father Pal Sarkozy as confirming that his son and wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy are expecting their first child together.
He's quoted as saying "neither wants to know the gender beforehand, but I'm certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla."
Sarkozy's office did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Sarkozy's office has refused to comment on rumors that she is pregnant in recent weeks, saying it's a private matter.

Yikes. Well, better that it be out in the open. We need to start acclimating Americans to the idea that Pakistan is a threat that needs to be neutralized. Point out that they have nukes and were hiding Bin Laden. Then when a real man is president, we can take action.
A pre-emptive strike is, in my view, the best option.
The #1 priority for intel agents in that region right now (if the job's not already been done) is to find out where each Paki nuke is. Those that can't be hit and destroyed by commando raids should be hit with cruise missiles sporting tac nukes in a simultaneous assault on all launch/storage sites. It should be coordinated with India if possible. The land should be laid waste.

I assume, of course, that mail order sales will be possible. Presumably we'll be able to go on line and order up a crate of light bulbs from SC. They'll come to the house in a plain brown wrapper marked "DISCOUNT PORN" to throw off the Feds.

I wonder how much bad publicity the feds will be willing to take for arresting (or ticketing) folks and confiscating their contraband lightbulbs. Or how many Federal Bulb Inspectors they'll be willing to place around SC's borders.

ThatÂ’s in addition to the 27 new waivers for health care or drug companies and the 31 new union waivers ObamaÂ’s Department of Health and Human Services approved.

Actual (grammatically incorrect) quote.
My response would be, "Then why the hell is it your hispanic brothers and sisters who feel the need to mule heroin, cocaine, and meth over the border, and kill each other and innocent people in drug-related cartel violence? May 17 (Bloomberg) -- Housings starts in the U.S. unexpectedly fell in April as home builders continued to struggle almost two years into an economic recovery.
Work began on 523,000 houses at an annual pace, down 11 percent from the prior month and less than the 569,000 median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, figures from the Commerce Department showed today in Washington. Building permits, a sign of future construction, also decreased.

Heh. Back in the good ole days of Governor Meldrim Thomson here in NH (just before I was born), our state got in a dust-up with Massachusetts (what else is new) over liquor sales. Since we have cheaper alcohol than in mass, thanks in no small part to no sales tax, lots of Mass folks would come over the border, stock up on alcohol, and drive back to Mass. (Heck, they still do.) The idiots in Mass, not appreciating this exporting of liquor revenue, decided to send Mass tax agents into NH to take down the license plate numbers of Massachusetts vehicles parked at NH liquor stores, so they could tax them later. Gov Thomson found out about it and was not pleased. So he had the Mass tax agents arrested.
We need more governors like him.

Democrats believe two-thirds margin in California Legislature is within reach
State Democrats tired of dickering with Republicans for tax votes are increasingly hopeful that next year they will elect a majority large enough to make negotiating unnecessary.
Redrawn legislative districts, high voter turnout for the presidential election and continuing demographic shifts are likely to benefit Democrats, political observers of both parties say.
"If you think 2010 was bad," former Senate Republican leader Jim Brulte tells Republicans, "just get a load of what's going to happen in 2012."
Democrats have controlled the Legislature most years since the late 1950s. But in all that time, they have not once held two-thirds majorities simultaneously in both houses.
Voters last year lowered the threshold for budget passage to a simple majority, but tax measures like Gov. Jerry Brown is proposing still require a two-thirds vote under Proposition 13.
The Democratic governor plans to present a revised budget plan this morning. But as his negotiations with Republican lawmakers drag on – Brown needs two Republican votes in each house to put tax extensions on a ballot – frustrated Democrats are increasingly looking to 2012.
For Democrats, the circumstances are encouraging. Though the commission redrawing legislative districts is likely to shift some seats from coastal to more conservative inland areas, Republicans continue to have difficulty capturing a minority population that is growing statewide. Republican voter registration has declined so precipitously that the party, while maintaining a registration advantage over Democrats in some counties, no longer holds a majority in any.
Further disheartening to Republicans is the fund-raising advantage of legislative Democrats. In the new, top-two primary system, influential labor unions may involve themselves in what were once exclusively Republican races, likely increasing the cost of competing.
"The Republicans are just losing their basic competitiveness everywhere," said Garry South, a Democratic strategist. "I do not at all discount the possibility the Democrats could walk away with this."
If Republicans' difficulties in California were not already apparent, they became so last year, when Democrats swept statewide races despite record gains for Republicans elsewhere in the United States.

Furniture stores will be offering sales to get rid of stock. Then you will have to "special order" to get something you want.
I sold furniture for a while at a store that carried Thomasville, Henredon, etc. What a lot of people don't know is that furniture is made in "runs." They will make a batch of stuff according to the orders they have, and then re-tool the line for another style they offer. If you miss the production run for a style you are interested in, you might have to wait over a year for some items. And then by the time your turn comes around again, they might have decided to discontinue it.

The Navy is expected to name a cargo ship under construction in San Diego after labor activist Cesar Chavez.
General Dynamics Nassco, the shipbuilding firm, has suggested the name to honor its Latino workforce, according to the Associated Press, quoting company spokesman James Gill.
Cargo ships tend to be named for explorers and other notable Americans such as Amelia Earhart, Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and Medgar Evers.
The announcement is expected Tuesday during a visit to San Diego by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus. Chavez served in the Navy during World War 2.

Headline from the future: "Officials were stunned to learn that the USS Cesar Chavez, a cargo ship recently commissioned, has been staging protests and slowdowns, demanding payoffs and public statements of support from other ship before it will release supplies. The USS Chavez (nicknamed 'nogo') does not seem to have this problem with one ship, the USS John Murtha. Officials speculate that some sort of special arrangements may have been reached between the two..."

Al-Doaifi told officers she was spitting on "white people" because of the way her people are treated and that a "higher authority" made her do it, an officer wrote.
Al-Dooofy, perfect. Ummm, asshole, you're an Arab. You're Caucasian. You are white people. You're whiter than half the white people I know.

Homeland Security. ItÂ’s a punchline. A sad one, but none-the-less a punchline.

Ridiculous. Between this and the ATF gunwalking scandal, why doesn't the administration just throw it's hands up and say, "Okay, okay. You got us. We were going to keep it till a November surprise next year, but... Everyone, say hello to your new Latino overlords!"

These special arrangements are between the actual SHIPS, mind you, not the crews. The ships are the sentient big labor bosses controlling the lives and fortunes of their dues-paying crewmembers.

The toxic bulbs will be the excuse that local government uses to create garbage cops such as they have in England.
What happens in a few decades when the dumps are declared hazardous waste sites due to the Feds adventure in chemistry?
Who pays to clean them up?

The new reality of the economy is that a recession is the economy
indicating that there needs to be a restructuring of the status quo, but
the “stimulus” said that we have to get back to the status quo. Any 5th
grader, told that the economic system is awash with “toxic assets,”
would know that sticking with the status quo is a slow death.
This wasnÂ’t your usual recession where the balance of supply and demand,
and the speed of the economy need to be put back into balance. This
rather was an economic system awash in “toxic assets” that were no
longer liquid. The secondary effects were that the bubble created from
the toxic assets had created a faux prosperity. Faced with these two
demands for a restructuring, the economic BS artists (often referred to
as economists) failed miserably in offering a “stimulus” as a solution.
