Amazing turnaround for Amazon in SC
Of course the local commie rag still mischaracterizes the issue.
After a dramatic turnaround Wednesday in the House, the battle to win a prized tax incentive to lure Amazon.com moves to the state Senate, where the online retailerÂ’s support has not been tested.
They, and the other local Dem PR rags have all lied about the issue. The issue is what constitutes a retail presence in the State for the purposes of collecting sales tax. The States have been fighting this issue for decades. Especially States like SC who have dramatically raised their sales taxes so that sales tax become a source of gouging the public. Their favorite motto is “let there be no dollar untaxed”.
Amazon was in the process of building a huge new distribution warehouse. Orders made to the Amazon internet home would be filled at this warehouse if being shipped to locations in the South East. This is NOT a local shop, it is a warehouse. Also, there is some talk of merchants that sell through Amazon that may have a real presence in the State. I am not fully up on that argument, but none of the newspapers have ever mentioned them either. They just keep saying that Amazon wants a tax break/subsidy to locate here. That is a damn lie.
Also for the Morons, this argument and fight is not limited to SC. It is currently going on all over the country in States that have sales tax.

The long awaited voter picture ID law is now in effect in SC
The States with Republican legislatures have been going ahead on this one after another since the SCOTUS ruling on the GA case. The Dems are going to have to find some new ways to cheat because this makes phony registrations and dead people harder to vote.
Of course there is still one more hurdle to overcome; the DOJ and Eric Holder. The unconstitutional Section V of the Voting Rights law can still be used to block it. HolderÂ’s crowd may elect to do that so that they can hold it up from taking effect before the 2012 elections, even as they know that the courts would overrule them.
My feeling on that is if they do force the State to go to court that the State go all the way and point out how the law is still unconstitutional and is now being used for blatant political corruption.

The WT claims he has the support of “several prominent conservatives” off the hill. They only mention two names though, Kenneth Starr and some obscure counsel for Bush. I don’t think they understand what the meaning of the word “conservative” is.

Moderate Jon Huntsman, possible 2012 candidate, tests the waters in todayÂ’s GOP
In a likely presidential bid, he would bring with him a political resume punctuated by his stint as President ObamaÂ’s ambassador to China and loaded with centrist positions on immigration, cap-and-trade climate legislation and gay rights.
He’s a damn crap and tax RINO, since serving in the Obama regime more likely a DIABLO. Key word here “moderate”. They call the ME sisters “moderate”. Anytime a newspaper labels a Republican as a “moderate” you don’t have to go to the ACU to see if they are a RINO. The newspaper has already done that for you. When they call a Democrat a “moderate” that means that on about one or two times a year they will vote with the Republicans when it doesn’t matter.

Henry's main objective was always to get a male heir. When Catherine didn't give him one, he believed it was her fault.
He married Anne Boleyn because she was young and healthy and he thought she would bear him a son. When she didn't, he lopped her head off.

That stupid ad showing a Republican pushing Granny over a cliff by "privatizing Medicare" represents typical, demagogic, but surprisingly effective, Democrat/media tactics. Sort of along the "When did you stop beating your wife?" mode.
They show the ad. The squishes, the young skulls full of mush, various parts of the 52% see it and say, "Gee, that's awful. That's not what America is supposed to be about. You conservatives and that Paul Ryan are ready to balance the budget by throwing our elderly off a cliff."
When you call BS, they ask you to prove that Ryan's plan doesn't in fact do this. These are no-win situations.
We are constantly fighting these type of gotcha and strawman battles, playing the game on the left's board, with the equipment the left provides to our side, and by the left's rules. Needs to stop.

Laughing at VDH's snark, quoted at InstaP:
But in the cases of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, John Edwards, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, their extramarital hook-ups led to pregnancies, and the preliminary and tabloid “physical” evidence surrounding the Strauss-Kahn episode seems to show yet another lack of such concern. Factor in Eliot Spitzer’s use of prostitutes, and I think a new campaign either about safe sex or proper background discretion in the selection of partners should be targeted at politicians, multimillionaires, and those with advanced degrees in law.

Dunno- the Amazon guy's contention was many of these small businesses were using Amazon as a clearing house/guarantor for their business transactions - that is, instead of buying from "Bobby's Collectibles and Baseball Cards", you're in essence buying from Amazon- in much the way it's been stated on this blog a few times.
Assuming Bobby in the case above wants to pack up his baseball cards and move to Indiana or Wisconsin, you're right. Assuming he doesn't, he either lays off the four people he has fulfilling Amazon orders or goes out of business and takes the current standard of 7,342 weeks of unemployment (subject to upward revision).
Or not, because Bobby had the temerity to actually try to run a business which makes him a "fat cat", which means he is not paying his "fair share"of taxes n' stuff, thus making him ineligible for suckling on the teat of the public weal.
But no, I'm not bitter. Why do you ask?

okay, so i get here and we're talking about Henry the VIII's wives, huh?
Interesting topic as I'm currently finishing William Manchester's A World Lit By Fire.
The Medieval times were creepy. Men being both the father and grandfather of children, everyone having VD, orgies, rape, casual murder, and a insane hedonistic spendthrift catholic church, that was more like a group of gangster's than a religious order.
glad we left that behind.

Truman, not that I want to start something--but I am curious as to why.
She's a conservative libertarian and she's got a sack on her. She's also got the fortitude to bicker with the lefty hags (of both sexes) to stop their incrementalism.
Furthermore... there is no other GOP candidate at the moment, nor on the immediate horizon, who is both conservative and charismatic. Herman Cain is a great guy, but he's not going to win a single damn primary.

No, the ties are cut with the Amazon vendors in that state. There are tens of thousands of samll busineeses that sell products via Amazon.
Okay, I said that wrong. It's not that Amazon stops buying from small businesses, it just stops buying from the businesses in the state charging the taxes.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A special type of government search warrant that allows authorities to search homes without informing the owner for months is becoming more common, Target 7 has learned.
Imagine someone walking through your neighborhood, coming into your home and rifling through your intimate belongings.
“(They) search through your home, your dresser drawers, your computer files,” Peter Simonson, with ACLU New Mexico, said.
These search warrants donÂ’t involve knocking on doors or any type of warning at all. Delayed-notice search warrants, or "sneak-and-peek" warrants, allow federal agents to enter your home without telling you theyÂ’ve been there until months later.

Ace ran a post about this a few weeks ago. Amazon has built up a huge following and a large amount of trust and this makes them number 1 at this venture.
The legal argument from the States is that if you have a small buisness that does have a brick and mortar store in the State, then they have a presence in the State for sales tax purposes and that is probably true.
However, none of the newspaper articles talk about that. All they talk about is an overall sales tax exemption for ALL of the Amazon sales as if the sales tax charge applies to all of Amazons sales. In fact the State of NC is suing them to divulge ALL of their sales in NC so they can go after NC residents for avoiding the useless "use tax".

This is the one thing I despise Spitzer for, he argued for taxing internet sales. I loved shopping on the internet, there was no tax and if you got free shipping and a little discount you were happy. I figured the lobby for brick and mortar stores got to Spitzer but then so did client #9
We were asked to buy a book for our friend who is in grad school, a chip in for his birthday. I bought the book yesterday, a text book. For the first time they charged me both tax and shipping. The damned thing was over two hundred bucks. My take, it doesn't bode well for them. You're going to buy at the cheapest place without sales tax. Now my friend needed the book so they had it and I just bought it lest we screw up and not be able to get it, but it was a shocker, when I was in school I bought books from them all the time, with no tax.

Vitter said he opposed the measure, which in most respects tracked bills passed by the Republican House, because he said it didn't go as far as the House bills in opening new tracts along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and in the eastern Gulf for drilling. It also included a provision that would have gone beyond current Interior Department regulations and required exploration plans to have containment response provisions that had been reviewed by a third party.
Posted by: Y-not at May 19, 2011 05:40 AM (pW2o8)
Reading several other news reports it appears some of the oil producing States objected to it because it would actually slow down drilling permits.
It would halt the process that just started and start a new process all over again. The law of unintended consequences struck.

Herman Cain is a great guy, but he's not going to win a single damn primary.
I think you're wrong on that. He will win SC going away, assuming he is still in the race, and I think he probably will be. I think he'll do well in Iowa (based on the format), I think he has a chance to do OK in NH (though Mittens will probably win that one). If he makes it to SC he will clean up, guaranteed, and he would probably do very well on Super Tuesday because there are a lot of southern states voting that day and he will play very well in the south.
My guess though is that everything will be decided by whoever wins Florida.
The key in all of this is whether or not the anti-Mittens vote can coalesce early behind one candidate. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the establishment would try to keep as many people in the race as long as possible so as to split the anti-Mittens vote.

He then went on to say he was pretty disappointed in Obama. Bill asked if he thought Obama was a fraud (which was kinda weird) and Asner said he wasn't sure yet.

It's going to be close here in NH, though the primary is still a ways off. Mitt has name recognition and regional favorability, but he's also got Masscare around his neck, and we NHites have heard enough bellyaching from our MA neighbors to know that it's bad news and we don't want it or its benefactor in a position of authority. Herman Cain is less well known, but he's come up here to NH a number of times already, done meet and greets, call-in shows, the whole gamut. We're still old-fashioned New Englanders in that respect. We like to see and hear our politicians in person. I think he's won himself a lot of supporters up here doing that.

Parents of the Douglas County fourth-graders who appeared at a state Capitol news conference Monday in support of a tax increase were never asked permission for their kids to be part of the event.
Douglas County school officials said they got phone calls after the event inquiring about the presence of the fourth-graders from Wildcat Mountain Elementary in Littleton. The kids stood behind Sen. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, on Monday as he outlined the details of his proposal to ask voters in November to approve a five-year, $3 billion tax increase for education.
Randy Barber, a spokesman for Douglas County schools, said the class
had planned a tour of the Capitol long before Heath ever scheduled his
news conference the same day in the building.

The somewhat undefined threshold developed by the bipartisan group back then stated that a nominee should be filibustered only under "extraordinary circumstances."
"The nomination of Mr. Goodwin Liu does rise to a level of 'extraordinary circumstances,' and therefore McCain will seek to filibuster the nomination," read a statement by the office of former Gang member John McCain.
