5 NYDN is not biased against Palin are they?

I was 'absolutely terrified' when Sarah Palin was nominated for VP, her former aide says

In "Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of our Tumultuous Years," Frank Bailey claims Palin is a self-serving individual who "loved to play the victim."

What a crock of shit.

The "Morning Jay" shows his Rovian neocon roots

Today, I want to look at things strictly from the competitiveness metric, and here I think the main contenders -- Jon Huntsman, Tim Pawlenty, and Mitt Romney -- all score very, very well. I see four reasons for drawing this conclusion.

SO the Weekly Standard is pushing "moderates" as being the "competitive" candidates. Huntsman is competitive???

Shades of 2008 all over again.

This is why I hate The Weekly Neocon.

15 Dem wins NY-26 with 48% in a conservative district.

A Democrat has won an upset victory in a hotly contested race for a U.S. congressional seat from upstate New York, where proposed cuts to federal health assistance were seen as a pivotal issue.

Anyone wanna argue with me now that pushing Ryan's plan (a plan that had no chance of passing) was the stupidest political move of the century?  If our sitting Repub reps and Senators keep pandering to the idiot Tea Party with symbolic votes like this, we'll not only never regain the Senate or the White House, we'll lose the House again in 2012.  Fucking doofuses.

And please.. I know that idiot that ran on Tea Party ticket blew it for us.. but 48% for the Dem!  What's going to happen in closer races?

Redstate take on NY

To say that this special election defeat of the GOP is a repudiation of the GOPÂ’s efforts on Medicare is laughable on its face.

The truth of the matter is that the Republican Party of New York sucks and has sucked for a while. It is especially terrible at special elections where the out of touch party leaders pick state legislators who everyone hates and runs them.

I know a lot of the Morons hate EE but he right on the money on this one.

Posted by: Vic at May 25, 2011 07:04 AM (M9Ie6)

I'm pretty sure that's why those things exist - to drain the taxpayer to enrich the scum of humanity.  The UN and IMF should be defunded.  Today.

I can't think of any "international" organization that is anything other than an enemy of the US.  Every one of them should be on the cut list.  Indeed, nearly all organized efforts to "aid" poor nations are corrupt and counterproductive.  Let each stand on its own, or fall.  Most people do a fine job of figuring out solutions for themselves.

It reminds me of what I saw when I visited the D.R.  Foreign do-gooders would come in and be horrified by the little palm-wood shacks the locals had.  So, the do-gooders would offer to build them nice, solid, concrete houses on the same site, for free.  Naturally, many poor fools feel for it.  Now, instead of a comfortably ventilated and termite proof palm wood shack, they instead live in a crude concrete hot box with no air flow.  Their condition, thus worsened, drew no concern from the do-gooders who did the damage in the first place - they walked away feeling pretty good about how they "helped" the underpriveleged.  Oh - and note that those do-gooders (especially the Europeans), always the good natured and helpful sort, liked to stimulate the economy - via sex tourism.  The Germans especially - who's tastes were widely accepted to run to the jail-bait side of the spectrum.

Scratch a do-gooder, find a commie pervert.

25 My last post on the NY election thread

Note:

With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Hochul had 48 percent of the vote. State Assemblywoman Jane Corwin (R) had 42 percent, with independent candidate Jack Davis running a distant third with 9 percent.

If this election had been in SC they would have to do a "run-off" because no candidate got 50% of the vote. That is how you fix stupid fraud like this.

And note that it was an "independent", not a fake Tea Party candidate.

Democrats lie.  Like trolls, it's what they do.  Every election, in every year that I can remember, the Democrats has tried to scare seniors into staying on the plantation by saying that Republicans will leave them starving and cold.  It makes no difference whether we propose some thing or not.  The Democrats will says it, and the MFM, stenographers for the DNC, will spread it around as unexamined gospel.

Even the NRO fails to call the "Tea Party" candidate in NY a fake.

Yeah, well he did officially declare his party offilliation as "Tea Party", so that probably causes problems to a reporter - even if they know it's a misnomer.

I suppose - to play the devil's advocate here - his one-man "Tea Party" was perhaps the only official political party by that name in existence to date. Weird, huh? Still doesn't make it right, though - the guy's still a fraud.

I can't blame the loss on him, though. The (R) would have needed 3/4 of his vote to tie the (D), and as his candidacy lost steam most of his votes went to the (D). In a district like this, the (R) should have had more room to spare than any votes the fake might have cost her.

I suspect an incident involving a video may have hurt both the (R) and the fake. Before that, the (R) was ahead by a bit, and the fake had 25% (vs 9% at the end). It reflected negatively on both. And let's not forget that the former holder of the seat was a representative the Republican party, which he thoroughly embarrassed.

It's hard for me to say how much the Medicare issue played into it. I don't subject myself to much of the major media that is said to be painting the Ryan plan as throwing grandma off a cliff. I think even my (D) wife voted for the (R). I know I did, and so did my kid (her 1st federal election).

33 I don't think it's the right time to push a conservative candidate or a conservative agenda.

I think the citizens of the US need to soak in $8.00 a gallon gas for a while first.

On third thought... when y'all are ready to be a country again, instead of manacled, uh, "bound," as our greatly jug eared Friend puts it, to whatever foreign country we're begging from this week, let me know.

The funny thing is, I can think of reasons to not vote for (for instance) Palin, but I ain't seen a one of them yet in the "maybe this will get me a piece of liberal ass" five minute hates this blog has bogged down with lately.

Probably because that reason (she supports the Jug Eared Friend on Libya) doesn't resonate with the other people in the five minute hate.

It ain't about policy, it's about proving you're one of the crowd.

Here's a free clue:

38 You all might enjoy this revealing look at the life of a tenured U of Illinois at Chicago professor, written by the prof himself. The short version is "Thanks, suckers". Here's a taste:

After 34 years of teaching sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I recently retired at age 64 at 80 percent of my pay for life. This calculation was based on a salary spiked by summer teaching, and since I no longer pay into the retirement fund, I now receive significantly more than when I “worked.” But that’s not all: There’s a generous health insurance plan, a guaranteed 3 percent annual cost of living increase, and a few other perquisites.

Good work if you can find it.

I have no problem whatsoever about the older retired folks demanding that the government keep their fuckin hands off their Medicare...because it IS their Medicare. They have had the deductions forcibly taken from their paychecks since 1966 with the promise by the government that it would be there when they retired.

Medicare does need to be changed, but not on the backs of the seniors.

I would think that the right is always doomed as long as the Party of the Free Lunch also has the major media as a subsidiary, at least, until things get so bad that they can't be denied.  When your opponent can promise the moon, gratis, and no one calls them on it, painful truth is a hard sell.

Can we at least take Viagra off the allowed prescription list?

But seriously, the problem is that new life extending treatments, each more costly than the last, are being developed continually.  People will demand that they get them (and any failure to provide it will be seen as a betrayal).  There's some limit beyond which we just can't make it happen.  Older folks need to come to grips with the fact that Medicare was designed in the days when if you got a serious disease they basically gave you some meds and sent you home to die.  No one could have foreseen the costly options available today.

The question is - what is the fairest way to deal with the fact that we have limited health care resourced?  Somebody is going to feel that their ox has been gored.  Probably lots of somebodies.

56 Had another thought, while I'm venting:

In a lot of ways, I consider Palin to currently be a less than ideal candidate. I think some of the factors there are however contrived/"not her fault," etc. That still doesn't make those factors non-factors.

I think a lot of what happened to force her resignation was passively-aggressively aided by the national party, which did nothing when she got sued out of office.

Y'all may be too stupid to see this this way... but

THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T GET DANIELS TO RUN. IT'S WHY RYAN ISN'T RUNNING.

Everyone seems to be happy to see the Less Than Ideal Candidate "made an example of" by the democrats, and can't figure out why their dream candidate isn't running.

Republicans have refused to approve new debt authority without dollar-for-dollar spending reductions. Budget experts said an agreement on $1 trillion in spending cuts is feasible, but reaching $2 trillion would be politically difficult.
...

There is wide agreement in Washington that deficits must be reduced by $4 trillion over the next decade, and President Obama has made such a proposal. Biden said an agreement for $1 trillion in cuts would be a "down payment."

So everyone knows we need to cut it now, but hell, that would be 'politically difficult' so screw it.

60 re the NY-26 election, there was some semi-encouraging news there. The fake TPer spent $1.7 million of mostly his own money to garner 8-9% of the vote.

Yeah, but the (R) spent a similar amount in a Republican district - twice as much as the (D) - and lost.

Oh, and the fake TPer is said to have been 100% self-funded, by choice. Which is maybe the only good thing I could say about him.

Behar says Palin isn't following Word of God while talking with her weasly ex-aide):

No, Behar, Sarah Palin canÂ’t be Christian if her ex-aide (whoÂ’s going around bashing her as a disaster) says he didnÂ’t see her read the Bible or the Constitution.

Or, if you think she’s ‘vindictive.’

JOY BEHAR: She says sheÂ’s Christian, does she read the Bible? Has she read the Constitution?

EX-PALIN AIDE, FRANK BAILEY: I never saw her read the Constitution. I never saw her read the Bible.

JOY BEHAR: You say sheÂ’s vindictive, thatÂ’s not a Christian value, personality trait, to be vindictive. I donÂ’t think Jesus meant for people to be vindictive.

Medicare should be means tested in the same manner that Veteran's benefits are tested based upon annual income and net worth filings.  Failure to accurately divulge net worth and current cash assets will result in loss of privilege, and it's rigorously enforced.  The annual VA filing is compared to the personal 1040, and it should be the same.

Based upon my disclosures, I pay $50/visit, and from $9 - $37 per prescription. Prescriptions are actually cheaper at Wally Mart, but the VA doesn't write prescriptions for the civil market.

I gladly recompense the VA for services which allows some of the older men with diminishing assets to receive services.

The wait times can be lengthy, and the services are on occasion less than desirable, but access is guaranteed, and that's important to the aging military population.

Of note:  X-rays, electrocardiogram's, and endoscope treatments, MRI's, etc., are not chargeable services because the VA considers the equipment purchased and staff personnel mandatory to complete the mission.

Something on this order might work well for Medicare, but the aging population will bitch about the payment schedule.

83 Interview with Governor Daniels locally said that the big concern was that your privacy is gone,  forever,  not only for Cheri and him,  but for the 4 daughters,  3 of whom are recently married in the last 2 years.

And although unsaid,  I am certain that he didn't want to have his family sacrificed in order to provide fodder for the leftist media.

It amazes me how quickly people throw GOP candidates under the bus.  If we were serious people,  we would be defending all of them who step forward,  because it is not something I would want to do.  I am continually amazed that Palin hasn't been destroyed.  The attacks her family have suffered would have destroyed me.

I come on a site like this and look at the amount of viciousness towards her,  or Romney,.  or Pawlenty,  or Cain (just depends on who is in the news) and I wonder why anyone at all would want to be a Republican candidate.  You end up as a target of the media and the vicious left,  and your so-called allies turn on you as well.

I think I will go work in the garden for a while.

You mean the guy who vacated the seat, right? He left because of a scandal that was all over the national media (he was the guy not wearing his shirt - not pant-less, just out looking; it was THAT lame). He was a real Republican, not a RINO. A small business owner, and we could use more of them in Washington. It was a major screw-up.

An opponent to the Republican trying to replace him registered himself as being on the "Tea Party", but he wasn't a real Tea Partier. Some people blame that tactic for (R) losing the seat, but I don't feel the numbers add up to come to that conclusion. Most media blame the Ryan plan for the loss, but the (R) candidate had a number of problems that could be pointed to. It's an embarrassment anyway, though.

Yeah, that's probably a pretty good way to put it. Realistically, though, this state is infested with cities, which are invariably infested with parasitic Democrats. The GOP in this state are usually sacrificial lambs, and it's amazing to me that they ever get anybody elected in this state. The governors they get in are often RINO-ish, but that's what they have to be here.

Before 2010, BTW, there were only two (R) congressional seats in NY, and this was one of them (the other is on Long Island - Peter King).

131 What's the Chi-Town Jerry plan?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Posted by: Bugler
..........
Ok.. here ya go.. had to get to work in between posts...

First off.. You ask the question like Ryan's privatizing plan is the only alternative.  That's silly.

The problem with Medicare is not that it is a government run plan.  It is run very efficiently, with less than 5% overhead.  Most private insurers have 15% to 35% overhead (including profit).

The problem is Medicare pays for too much.  Caps per year are too high.  Benefits that should not even exist cost billions per year.  One fourth of all Medicare payments are made in the final year of the recipient's life.  End-of-life care needs to be addressed - some will call it death panels - but that is exactly what private insurers will do to ensure they make a profit.

Add in Medicare fraud and disability fraud (or unnecessary disability payments) and Medicare is a money pit.

I do not argue that it needs reforming.. it's just that privatizing does nothing except put about 20% of Medicare dollars into the coffers of private insurers whose main job will be denying care to the elderly to increase profits.

Giving a healthy 65 yr old $15,000 for "insurance" when they might only use $2,000-$3,000 in care that year is stupid.  Stupid.  That is $12k or so profit for an insurer.

One can privatize Medicare much more efficiently with fixed costs.  Here's how:

Set aside whatever Congress wants to allocate into a major medical fund.  Let's call this a catastrophic illness fund - it's a big risk pool fund.  These funds would kick after the recipient has $10k or more (some number that makes Medicare work) in costs for the year.

This fund is administered by private insurers who agree to take on all applicants (administration fee of 2-3% can be paid to them for the trouble).  Those private insurers are then able to sell gap insurance (from $0 to $10k) to Medicare recipients - this is where they will make their profits.  This will be cheap because there is no large risk to the insurer - anything over $10k is paid from the common risk pool fund.

So - everyone on Medicare can purchase whatever level of gap insurance they feel comfortable with.  Very poor people will get assistance on this gap insurance.

Fraud will be nearly eliminated because private insurers will police the funds much better than a government that doesn't give a shit about fraud.

Put disability patients in this plan as well and start a bounty reward program for reporting fraudulent recipients.

Jerry's plan.

OK, before I start in, let me just say that you at least brought something to the table.  That puts you up on the Dems, not that they set a high bar these days.

Unfortunately, you typed what I quoted.  Unless you have some way to control what Congress can allocate, I can guarantee you this doesn't fix the problem.  Congress will just keep allocating like it has been for it, and all you've done is tie some insurance providers in to take the ride down the rapids.

Unless you have a plan to keep that under wraps, this doesn't make a very viable solution, at least not from where I'm sitting.

How is that different from Ryan's plan?  He has to have a fixed amount for the premium support per person.

He has set his number at $15k (or whatever).  Why wouldn't the same logic apply?  The next Congress would allocate a $20k premium support. ??

Any scheme requires a disciplined Congress and President.

I think a risk pool to cover catastrophic expenses, however, ends up spending less total dollars than Ryan's plan - assuming you have the same disciplined Congress in place.

150 Got exclusive info on "The One's" original toast to the Queen. Seems his Office of Protocol agreed with the context of his first draft but believed it may be poorly accepted by the Queen. His first toast was to be as follows: POTUS: To Queen Elizabeth. Here's to you and here's to me, and should we ever disagree..... F*#K YOU! Here's to ME.
