In case you missed it, Reuters reported last night that Brennan's statement that bin Laden used a woman as a human shield had been said to be untrue by other White House people. (I guess they realize that the Intelligence Committee people were going to get a look at those videos, even if we never do.)
Also, Diane Sawyer says that now, Americans have "hope."
AND, Ultersman has a little tidbit about how we have known about that safe house for NINE MONTHS, and the Insider guy says Daly and CLinton were the ones who pushed for doing something.
That's my morning internet synopsis.

Intelligence people had to identify the courier(s), and watch their movements in and out. Not easy when all you've got is a drone and no assets on the ground as has been reported.

I guess that fell by the wayside along with the "it happened a week ago" story, and the "woman used as a human shield" story, and the "house was bombed" story, etc.
I prefer clarity. And they had better get those pictures out today, because the Arabs are already concocting conspiracy theories.

Somewhere in this great land is a much-maligned Humanities course in Comparative Religion that teaches what Muslim burial practices really are. But this country is led by engineers! who would never lower themselves to speak with those people! And now they're saying Wha?

U.S. closes its embassy, consulates in Pak till further notice
The U.S. on Tuesday closed its embassy and consulates in Pakistan to the general public until further notice, a day after American special forces killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in a daring raid near the garrison city of Abbottabad.
While the stated reason for these closures is fear of reprisals after bin Laden's death, one cannot help but wonder if this is some form of quiet retaliation for the Pakis protecting him for so long.

No amount of evidence will "prove" anything to some people. Even if they produced a body, would you know for sure it's bin Laden??
I trust our men and women in uniform. And, there had to be hundreds of military and intelligence people involved with this by the time he ended up dumped in the ocean. It is much easier to believe it is true than a hoax, to be honest.

Sohaib Athar began tweeting messages about one in the morning local time complaining about helicopters hovering and than a window-rattling blast.
His series of messages at Twitter told of a helicopter crash, a family dying, and Pakistani military swarming the area.
"I am just a tweeter, awake at the time of the crash," he said in a Twitter message at 06:30 GMT on Monday.
"Uh oh, now I'm the guy who live-blogged the Osama raid without knowing it," he tweeted after connecting president Obama's announcement to what was taking place in his neighborhood.
Which makes this possible explanation more believable.

I agree that the body should have been treated just like any other. Take the DNA for identification, then toss the remains overboard. None of this ritual washing and other assorted crap. As I mentioned yesterday, it is my most fervent wish that a few of the less reverent sailors involved gave the body a urine shower with bacon sprinkles. I find it difficult to believe that there was much solemnity during the preparations.

What I am objecting to is the amateurish way this is being handled, with all sorts of revisions and delays and tap-dancing for NO NEED.
When Saddam was captured, there was a photo put out when it was announced. Brenner stood there with big blow-ups so that the iraqis could see it was, indeed, Saddam.
When Saddam's two sons were shot and killed, they put out pictures almost imediately so that the Iraqis (who were rightly terrified of the pair) could rest assured that they were DEAD.
Why in the name of all that's holy they do not just release the dang pictures I do not understand. Maybe Obama just likes to yank everyone's chain, like he did with the birth certificate. It's not very presidential, if that is the case.
And I think it is a major blunder in dealing with the Arabs. But then, what do I know?

Whoever came up with the idea of giving bin laden full muslim burial honors and then disposing of the body within hours of announcing his death needs to go, and to go quickly. This was one of the most asinine acts done yet in this War on Terror, that we fight with both hands tied behind our back. And every idiot who praises the stupidity of giving the waste of flesh, bin laden, any burial honors, at all, must go, too. I cannot think of anything dumber than submitting to our dead enemies and prostrating ourselves in front of our current enemies.
It's been done before. To wit:
No. 3 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps, gave Manfred Von Richthofen (The Red Baron) a full military funeral in April, 1918. Complete with a guard of honor, rifle salute, and memorial wreaths.
Whither shall I go, being an idiot?

ontherocks,
The Pakistanis and the TB are tied together, but AQ is very much a secondary player in this conflict. Yes, UBL brings in money and support from the Arab world, but I don't doubt for a second that the elements of ISI and TB who knew where he was were involved in getting this information out. The Pakistanis are making a push to expand their influence in Afghanistan and drive out American influence. Expect to see an increase in the pace of 'reconcilliation' between TB groups and GIRoA, largely supported by Pakistan.

Can someone put me to some knowledge? I want to start off by stating explicitly that I am not trying to start a conspiracy theory here. I just wanted something cleared up.
I keep hearing that the OBL ID was confirmed through DNA testing. It's my understanding that getting test results takes days. And since, from what I hear, we didn't have any OBL DNA already to make any comparisons with, so DNA from his sister was used.
However, she was only a half-sister and therefore there are fewer markers they would have in common...so they probabilities for a postive ID would be decidedly lower.
Could they do a testing in a matter of hours? Would they even have the capability in this situation over there in that situation. If they had to send it off somewhere, that would have taken time too. So what gives?
Anyone have any knowledge on this stuff?

I heard several family members, not just sister.
Secondly, DNA testing takes time because it has to go to a lab with a certain kind of microscope. If you have that on hand, it's quick. Probably a matter of 30 minutes.

They don't use microscopes for DNA comparisons. They use a technique called PCR to amplify the DNA, then they compare certain parts of the DNA (most of it is identical in humans) to a known sample. It's pretty much automated now, and doesn't take long.

I don't agree with it, but they were honoring his skill as a pilot, perhaps sharing an overarching rule set with him. What parallel might exist with bin laden? Was he some sort of military genius? I don't think so. Most of his success was due to our stupidity.
It is one thing to show respect to enemy soldiers who generally adhere to our naive rules of war. It is quite another to honor a "cheater".

Terrorism Arrests At Sellafield Nuclear Plant Five men are being held under the Terrorism Act after being arrested close to the Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria.
Sky sources said it is understood the men were British Asians and were taking photographs of the plant.
They were detained at about 4.30pm on Monday after a stop check on a vehicle by officers. Part of a road was closed.
The five, all in their 20s and from London, were held overnight at a police station in Carlisle under section 41 of the Terrorism act.
The investigation is being led by counter-terrorism officers in Manchester.
Sky's home affairs correspondent Mark White said: "From what I understand there was nothing found on them that would give immediate cause for concern that there was any potential attack."

The words used in reporting are starting to change. Safe house is now the word being used to describe OBL's location. Safe house has a lot more meaning then compound or hideout or spider hole. A safe house inside Pakistan that was formally used by Pakistan's intelligence agency located within line-of-site of Pakistan's elite military school and in a neighborhood of Pakistan military officers and within 35 miles of the country's capital completely unbeknownst to Pakistan officials.
We then went in the middle of the day (3:30 pm from what I have read) with a military strike team and assaulted some residential location just outside of the country's capital and within rotor wash of the best of the Paki military; killed its occupants; take a body; destroyed our disabled chopper; and ransacked the building for 40 minutes while we "sneak" in ANOTHER chopper to take out all our troops and loot; without any interference from the Pakistan military or the local police; all this based on information we have had for 9 months.
We got wikileaks puke'n critical information all over the internet and yet we were able to keep OBL location a secrete for 9 months while we decide how to handle the job. Such care in planning leaves a disabled and burning chopper, a double tap to the head of our target and now we have misleading accounts from our own officials as to whether or not OBL used his wife as a shield and whether or not OBL resisted despite the fact that our President and top officials watched the assault live as it happened.

[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done Â… is done. And even to capture him now I donÂ’t think makes us any safer.
Nancy Pelosi, earlier today:
The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. Â… I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. WASHINGTON – Golf shoes in the Oval Office could have been a clue.
President Barack Obama usually goes to the residence quarters of the White House after putting in a few weekend hours on the links. But he made an unusual beeline for his West Wing office last Sunday that raised eyebrows only in retrospect.
He was headed for a top-secret meeting to review final preparations for a military operation he'd approved two days earlier, the one involving a raid by Navy SEALs that would end with the death of Osama bin Laden, one of the world's most hunted men.
But only a few insiders knew the real deal.
In a remarkable 72 hours of his presidency, Obama carried around a momentous secret and gave no hint of it as he went about his duties consoling tornado victims, delivering a college commencement address and cracking jokes at a black-tie dinner.
The AP needs a fresh set of panties. They've obviously wetted another pair writing this hagiography of Barry

Not sure if I buy all of this, but the fact that Jarrett is not in the picture, but Clinton is, is a very interesting item.
Quote:
Obama looks like he just walked in off the golf course, which in fact he did.
Who’s missing from the pic? Obama’s chief handler, Valerie Jarrett. She accompanies him virtually everywhere – including overseas trips. She can usually be seen close to the Pres, hanging on his every word.
From an alleged WH Insider – this acct was published 4:30 today:
(note – BD = Bill Daley; HC = Hillary; LP = Leon Panetta)
Please get this out ASAP. Want specific people to know we know.
RE Osama Bin Laden. Significant push to take him out months ago. Senior WH staff resisted. This was cause of much strain between HC and Obama/Jarrett. HC and LP were in constant communication over matter – both attempted to convince administration to act. Administration feared failure and resulting negative impact on president. Intel disgusted over politics over national security. Staff resigned/left. Check timeline to corroborate.
Now Intel already leaking to media facts surrounding how info obtained. Namely from enhanced interrogation efforts via GITMO prisoners. Obama administration placed in corner on this. Some media aware of danger to president RE this and attempting protection. Others looking for further investigation. We are pushing for them to follow through and already meeting with some access.
Point of determination made FOR Obama not BY Obama. Will clarify as details become more clear. Very clear divide between Military and WH. Jarrett marginalized 100% on decision to take out OBL. She played no part. BD worked with LP and HC to form coalition to force CoC to engage.
IMPORTANT SPECIFIC: When 48 hour go order issued, CoC was told, not requested. Administration scrambled to abort. That order was overruled. This order did not originate from CoC. Repeat – this order did not originate from CoC. He complied, but did not originate.
Independent military contacts have confirmed. Stories corroborate one another. This is legit.
The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH.

1) Someone on our side has made up that report, noting that Jarrett wasn't in the photo
2) There is a leak in the White House or CIA that is reporting some (or all of the truth)
3) There is a leak in the White House or CIA that is leaking false info as a political stunt.
One thing that has been bothering me since Sunday night is the "We've known where OBL likely is located since August", but we only now get around to it? Oh please. Considering it took ten years to find the guy while he was alive, how long would it take to find him if his ashes were scattered out of a moving plane, or thrown in a refuse pile in Virginia? For that matter, would it really be anything more than mind numbingly stupid for radical muslims to attempt pilgrimage to an America to honor Bin Laden?
As for the 'oh noes, martyr shrine' logic, I have news for you: There will be a martyr shrine, most probably his mansion will have a mosque on it.
But this is far afield of my point - we should have used the body for our purposes, then dumped it unceremoniously.

This is McConnell's second go-round. He was one of four nominees left out of a deal last Christmas in which numerous Obama nominees were confirmed.
McConnell passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote, with the exception of Lindsey Graham, who voted in favor.
Perhaps emboldened with Obama's new-found momentum, Harry Reid just filed a cloture petition on McConnell's confirmation, meaning that there will be a cloture vote as early as tomorrow.
If cloture is achieved, McConnell almost certainly will be confirmed because of the Democratic majority in the Senate.
It is important that you make clear to Republicans in the Senate that they should not vote for cloture.
Start by contacting Lindsey Graham's office, via e-mail or better yet, telephone 202-224-5972.
Update: My sources tell me that in addition to Graham the following Republicans may vote in favor of cloture, leaving only 41 against: Cornyn, Thune, Hatch , Snowe and Collins. (Added.) Apparently Kirk and Brown also are potential problems, so there may not be enough to stop the nomination, but things are fluid. I have calls or e-mails into several offices, and I'll keep you informed.

OBL was not an honorable man. His body was not given the same level of respect and burial honors that was given to the Red Baron.
The point is that the handling OBL's body received looks nothing like what we do to give full respect and honor to the enemy dead.
Neither are we Somalia, hanging burnt, desecrated enemy bodies from a bridge after dragging them through town. We like to think of ourselves as humane and civilized.
OBL was killed, his body taken away for DNA sampling (which also prevented the enemy from burying the body in grand fashion), given some minimal preparation, then dumped overboard. Gone. Disposed of quickly so that it's presence or location or handling could not continue to be an issue. Problem solved in a logical, expediant manner.
However (un)ceremoniously OBL's body dumping took place, it got the minimal lower boundary of civilized treatment.
So the body got washed and religious prayers were said over it. So what? That's what civilized people do. Even when it is not deserved. It's not about him not being civilized or not being humane, it's about us preserving our humanity. The body got the least little part of ours.
For those offended and outraged by the USN's handling of the body and burial at sea as too respectful or deferential, what would you have done differently? I ask 'cause other than skipping the rinse (possibly for health and safety of body handlers? IDK) and prayers, to me anything less would not be civilized.

Mrs. Obama: The thing that I always loved about my husband is that he's always been the person that can keep his eye on the prize in the midst of some craziness. And I think that's what makes him a special leader. ... Those are the decisions that he's been making every single day.
..
"What's happening is that there are these big global changes, and the world is more integrated because of technology—we know what's happening on the other side of the world instantly," he begins.
"And that's a good thing," Oprah says.
"That's a good thing," the President agrees. "But what it also means is that if there is a problem in one place, it can move around the globe very rapidly. So what happens in Libya suddenly affects oil prices here. What happens because of a subprime loan in California can cause Iceland to be bankrupt."
"Have you been disappointed at how difficult it is to get things done?" Oprah asks.
"It can be painful to watch," Mrs. Obama says. "But, Barack was in the Senate for many years, and I think he had a taste for how challenging it is when you work in a democracy—and that's one of the beauties of our country. We have a democracy. ... I always tease people, 'Barack's not a dictator, and that's a good thing.' ... It requires congressional cooperation and a whole range of cooperative actions that make our country great. But it makes the process difficult and slower than I think most people would like."
..
As with any election, partisan politics can sometimes distract both voters and nominees from the real issues. Yet, President Obama says he hopes for a respectful race in 2012. "What I want to do is make sure that it doesn't get personal and that the focus is where the focus should be, which is how to make the lives of the American people better," he says.
The president also says that he believes that improving Americans' lives is the intent of the Republican party as well. What the parties disagree on, he says, is how to do that. "I think it's very important to understand that we can disagree without questioning each other's intentions or patriotism," he says.
"Or citizenship," Mrs. Obama says.
Lots more here.

The Bush regime has once again violated the sanctity of a sovereign nation and acted unilaterally to bring destruction and war to the peaceful Islamic people of Pakistan by attacking a compound hiding Osama Bin Laden. U.S. military killers shot dead a female in a ruthless exchange of gunfire that may lead to an increase in global warming and local pollution in Abbotabad, Pakistan.
BushÂ’s reckless military expedition into Pakistan resulted in the
loss of a military M-60 helicopter which released caustic smoke into the
earthÂ’s atmosphere as it burned, threatening nearby residents with
toxic Western-style laissez faire pollution and filth.
..
Although the operation was successful in killing Bin Laden, it raises troubling questions about the cowboy-like response in acting unilaterally and and not seeking approval and a corresponding resolution from the United Nations Security Council. This opens a dangerous chapter in American foreign policy.Posted by: momma at May 03, 2011 06:54 AM (penCf)

The cleaning - and sea burial within 24 hours - were done because it is Islamic law on what to do with a body, not for any practical considerations.
As was said before, display the body to the press, Take it back to the US and take pictures of it, incinerate it, and dump the ashes off in a random unknown place. Do it on our timetable and don't give him a funeral.
And sorry, but exhorting Allah to spare Bin Laden from the fires of hell is just stupid. That's what the 'prayer' was. And if you are concerned about 'civilized' behavior, 'civilized' people put their enemies on trial.

In his first interview since commanding the mission to kill Osama bin Laden, CIA Chief Leon Panetta tells TIME that U.S. officials feared that Pakistan could have undermined the operation by leaking word to its targets. Long before Panetta ordered General William McRaven, the head of the Joint Special Forces Command, to undertake the mission at 1:22 p.m. on Friday, the CIA had been gaming out how to structure the raid. Months prior, the U.S. had considered expanding the assault to include coordination with other countries, most notably Pakistan. But the CIA ruled out participating with its nominal South Asian ally early on because “it was decided that any effort to work with the Pakistanis could jeopardize the mission: They might alert the targets,” Panetta says.

Slaughter in Iraq "was bin Laden's great moral undoing" and collapsed his support among global Muslim community
"After Qahtani was subjected to some of the humiliating interrogations at [Gitmo] ... he started to cooperate"
Qahtani "provided a wealth of information about al-Qaida, including references to the courier in question, the U.S. official said."

You do remember these are people who kill themselves just to kill us, right? They don't care about dying. Life is trivial to them. What matters to them is the chauvinism that Islam is superior to all other religions and governments. If you respect Islam, the message is that Allah will not allow even the infidel to violate it, and that even we ultimately know their religion is *true*.
It will encourage, not discourage them.

It's not even the actual muzzie rites the Indonesian made the military give bin laden's waste of flesh corpse, it's how they are stupidly begging the muzzie world to believe that they did it "correctly". That is dhimmitude of the worst sort. Especially as the muzzies love to see their corpses crowd surfing on the way to their final resting. LOL. And, for those who weren't satisfied with that muslim rite idiocy, Hussein thought it important (in the same address as the death of bin laden) to stress that "We are not at war with islam. We will never be at war with islam." Not only is islam at war with us, NOW, but ... "never"? WTF?

I do agree with you on the points about dhimmitude and "Not at War with Islam," especially the latter one. We didn't start the troubles, didn't go looking for trouble; they brought it on us. We should be of a mind and spine to make sure it ends in our favor.

Yeah, I feel so much better he got the minimal ritual. What ritual did those people jumping out of the twin towers get? What ritual did those Blackwater guys murdered, burned and hung from a bridge get? Civility is wasted on these people. We are kidding ourselves that this is good propaganda. It is in fact a wast of time and a smooch on the ass of dhimmitude.

In a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster And General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters..
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these
young boys when they visit your base?
GENERAL COSGROVE: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery
and shooting.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?
GENERAL COSGROVE: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the
rifle range.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity
to be teaching children?
GENERAL COSGROVE: I don't see how.. We will be teaching them proper Rifle
discipline before they even touch a firearm.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping
them to become violent killers.
GENERAL COSGROVE: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, But
you're not one, are you?
The radiocast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, this interview
was over.

You haven't been keeping up with this aspect of the story?
Frank Marshall Davis is a Black man originally from Chicago, who was a good friend and poker buddy with Stanley Dunham. (Barack's grandfather.) He admits to being a swinger (in his autobiography) and loved having sex with white women. (His wife was white.) Rather than tell you what I've learned, i'll just point you to a link where you can review some information yourself.
Next message.

Start here, and read through various links. You will find out more about the people in the Early part of Stanley Ann's life than you would have believed. Make sure you find the part about Frank Davis's autobiography where he admits having sex with a 14 year old white girl named "Ann."

Eh, could be. I would assume the Jazz collection would be more like FMD's type music than The Dunham's or Barack Obama Sr.'s.
Anyway, the time frame must almost certainly be after Thanksgiving and before Christmas 1960. Obama was born August 4, 1961. Nine months earlier is EXACTLY the time period of those nude pictures.
