Yesterday has come and gone and as we said yesterday not many have signed up for the debate
Here is the lineup from Fox
Number one, donÂ’t be fooled by the line-up. All the players will not be on the field Thursday. First hereÂ’s a list of the candidates who will be suiting up and appearing on the field: Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain and Gary Johnson.
None of those candidates are currently on my short list.

The other letter was my excitement about the Muslim burial thinking it meant we had sawed off bin Laden's head and posted the video on Youtube. Guess that one was a little too harsh for the victory mosque loving editors there...

A real sign of a power mad bureaucracy
The EPA is fighting the rest of the government over the I-73 extension to Myrtle Beach. Personally I am against this highway because it is a bad deal for SC. It doesn't connect ANY major cities in SC and simply follows the NC border just on the SC side until it nears Myrtle Beach. Yet SC will have to pay for it in a period when SC still has a huge deficit even after Hayley has cut funding for schools and other projects.Posted by: Vic at May 04, 2011 03:16 AM (M9Ie6)
A highly variable power source like wind should include some way to store the power so that a more reliable and consistent output is maintained. This could be as simple as pumping water to a higher point with excess power then releasing it to run a turbine when needed.
Of course, that would mean more infrastructure, higher costs than the already 3x-5x it is at, and the unending hate of enviroweenies for probably chopping up a few sea kittens during this process.

Vic: That's what regulatory agencies do. They protect their turf against you, using your own money.
Giving Mother Earth her own regulatory agency set up to fight against people was the worst thing that came out of Watergate.

Now I read him clarifying his statement at DC Trawler.

A USA TODAY survey of auto rental gas prices at 13 big airports on April 25 found Hertz was charging $9.29 a gallon at all 13. Dollar and Thrifty were charging $8.99 a gallon at two.
At $9.29 a gallon, Hertz customers renting a Ford Club Wagon, which has a 35-gallon fuel tank, would owe Hertz $325.15 for gas if they returned the wagon with a nearly empty tank and hadn't prepaid for the gas.
I also recall reading the other day that a gas station in FL near the airport was selling gas at $5.69 per gallon. I think it was Ft. Lauderdale.

I have been saying this for a long time. There is simply no way to connect wind turbines to the grid as a large percentage of your power source. Solar has the same problem, but to a lesser extent. Currently there is only one way to store electrical energy in a meaningful way and that is with batteries. Using batteries for a large scale grid application is simply not feasible.
What happens is that as the wind turbines vary in output, when they make up a large portion of the grid, that variable output becomes to great for the remainder of the grid to stabilize the frequency. This causes the frequency to start varying. This is known in the industry as grid instability and it is VERY bad.
All this wind and solar crap is a pipe dream from the eco-idiots aided by the communist politicians. Somewhere along the line the utilities must grow some balls and tell the idiots in Washington that it simply will not work.

Instead of wasting time on BS stuff the House should be defunding EPA. It is high time to disband that agency and fire everyone in it. Bureaucrats above first level supervisor would be forbidden from every working for the government again.

The covert operation that killed Osama bin Laden produced new evidence that the “emir” of al Qaeda actively commanded the terror group’s affiliates in Yemen, Somalia and other parts of North Africa and was not just an inspirational leader.
Materials found in bin LadenÂ’s compound include hard drives, thumb drives and a dedicated fiber-optic cable used for point-to-point access to the Internet, according to two U.S. officials who read initial after-action reports on the raid.

The engineering is way above the heads of the anointed--they already have the answer and it it green. I would love to see a rational engineering analysis done for non-engineers, but...
The conversion losses, power inconstancy, and backup plant issues make these green sources marginal contributors to a "stable" power grid. (Just think about the 130,000 acres of biofuel crops we just flooded, for example). But the greens don't want or care about a stable grid, they really want a rationed grid so power is directed/available to the "right" people at the right time.
"Power panels" anyone?

Oh, I just want to point out that my post wasn't aimed at Gnubreed, but the press.

A Good friend tells me that the City of Las Vegas has done the country a service. They have bought every sort of Wind Energy or Solar Energy gizmo, and they have set them all up to operate at a site they own. They monitor the output of all the devices and post the information in real time on the internet.
If you want to find out about real time efficiencies of Solar or Wind, you need to check out that site.

What?
Is that feasible? I mean to take wind power and convert it to stored battery power?
That is the only feasible way to do it and that only for small loads.
When charging a battery the source can vary widely in voltage and power to charge the battery while the power supplied by the battery will remain a stable DC at a voltage dependent on the number of cells.
This is how your car battery works even as the engine varies widely in RPM.

I'm looking for the site. My friend told me the name a half dozen times, but I didn't consider it important. I already knew wind energy is 4-5 times more expensive than coal or natural gas energy, so it is economically unfeasible. The confusion and suspicion caused by the conflicting statements as well as the hyperbole of some of the principles ("gutsiest call by a president, ever") is undermining any of the benefits our foreign policy could derive from the killing of bin Laden after a relentless 10-year search.
This was the perfect opportunity for Obama to point out that it doesn't matter who is in the Oval Office, we will continue the war and bring our enemies to justice.
Instead, we are treated to a clown car presentation with cartoon-like descriptions of Obama ("Cool Hand Barack" by Maureen Dowd, for example). I pointed out yesterday that these changing stories were going to cause problems.
Today, the Taliban says bin Laden isn't dead because we have no proof. Conspiracy theories are springing up like weeds in my soggy garden. And all the President can seem to do is use this for some sort of campaign to improve his poll numbers (shades of Bill CLinton after Oklahoma City).
I suppose we will be treated soon to another lecture on conspiracy theories and why they are pointless and detrimental to the 2012 campaign, but at least I get my opportunity right now to say that the reason these conspiracy theories will be percolating for the next few years is directly because of how terribly the Obama people have handled this.

The amount of power coming out of a site like that compared to the remaining grid is exceedingly small. That allows the remaining grid to stabilize the frequency. Think of it as a small toy boat that used a rubber man wind up propeller for movement. Then imagine that propeller being placed against a 16 foot propeller from an aircraft carrier and trying to vary the RMP.

Agree that it is not the contribution to the grid from Vegas that is important, it is access to a working instrumented green system equipment that is NOT in a lab or exists only on a spec sheet. This is real data that can be used in a serious analysis of performance.

Interesting cognitive dissonance there (or maybe it is integrative complexity), but
A. Osama truly represents the islamic "religion" and thus deserves full burial courtesies.
B. Osama truly worships a false highjacked version of the true religion of peace.

If B. then he should not be buried in accordance with the customary religion of peace burial trappings.

OBL was an evil bastard. Why? He followed the teachings of Islam/Mohammed. The muz love him because he did what most of them are too stupid and cowardly to do. People always tell me about all the muz who don't go around blowing shit up, but just because someone doesn't have the stones to do what his religion requires doesn't mean he doesn't believe it's the right thing to do.
We should not honor that "religion" nor its adherents in any way, either in death or in life.

They were right about sugar being bad in quantity. Too bad about the "cried wolf" aspect of all this.

I think this is exactly it. No messy quarrels over BS libtard "principles."
While I rejoice in his demise, personally I'd love to have taken OBL alive. I'd have had him tortured day and night and subjected to KGB style brain washing techniques until he renounced Islam. Then I'd sent him around on a speaking tour to bad-mouth Islam and denounce his past terroristic activities. He'd be accompanied by his pet pig. He'd be a puppet on a string, illustrating the hopeless impotence of our enemy.

It's obvious not everyone in Pakistan knew about Bin Laden, or that nobody knew.
It is interesting that he lived out of the eyes of his neighbors. That does not suggest he trusted everyone in Pak to keep his secret. Apparently our people didn't see OBL during months of 24-7 surveillance. And that some of his family lives there, given the multiple wives and scores of kids, isn't quite the clue it is in our culture.
So as usual, Pakistan is clear as mud.

In a Washington Post article, Carter wrote that “if the United States and the international community support this effort, they can help Palestinian democracy and establish the basis for a unified Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza that can make a secure peace with Israel.” However, “if they remain aloof or undermine the agreement,” it may lead to more violence against Israel.
Carter added that the accord between Hamas and Fatah are “a Palestinian contribution to the ‘Arab awakening,’” and that a Palestinian state can not be formed while they are divided. “Instead of exacerbating differences between the two parties,” he wrote, “the international community should help them resolve disagreements through electoral and legislative processes.”

We should have called him "Shaka".
So I guess that "Dead Man Walking" would have been too long a radio call.
I favor 'Deadmeat' personally, though 'Dingleberry' would be fine in a pinch...

Among other things Judge Baker cited a recent child porn case where the U.S. authorities raided the wrong people, because the real offenders were piggybacking on their Wi-Fi connections. Using this example, the judge claims that several of the defendants in VPR’s case may have nothing to do with the alleged offense either.“
The infringer might be the subscriber, someone in the subscriber’s household, a visitor with her laptop, a neighbor, or someone parked on the street at any given moment,” Judge Baker writes.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting real tired of "officials" and "informed sources" on this whole affair..
The story seems to change by the hour.
Which will be the reason if Obama loses in '12. Most Americans know, by now, that we cannot trust him and his people.
I believe Osama is dead but release the photos already.

Trust me, any generator connected to the grid will ALWAYS match the frequency. if a generation source is large enough it can effect the frequency of the grid.

I swear this admin resembles a cross between the Keystone Kops and the Gang That Couldn't Shoot straight. Minus the competency.
Question here for the knowledgeable--doesn't solar or wind power only make sense as an adjunct to conventional sources? Strikes me that it can be used as such on a very small scale. Like individual home size. I think storage problems would be much easier to overcome. Stupid or somewhat practical?

What this admin needs, frankly, is someone like Norm Schwarzkoph, to give a press breifing.
And that would be that. Event that happened, how it happened. Nothing pretty, just the facts.
That man had the best briefings to the press I've ever seen during the Gulf War. Hell, he called out the CIA on their lack of Intelligance during a live press conference.
Not only have we not seen anything even close to this for these past few days, but I don't indurstand whay no one in the current admin doesn't have either the authority, or clarity, to tell the American People what went down.

Remember when he showed the fighterbombers dropping bridges, and pointed out "the luckiest man in Iraq" as he was the last truck driver to make it over the bridge AS it was being hit?
That was comedy gold.

I remember him calling out a reporter who was questioning the danger of traversing a minefield. NS asked: Have you ever been in a minefield? It only takes one!
I expect the reporter had to change his pants before he could write up his report.
Which reminds me, somewhere I have a VHS of the 'mother of all press briefings.'

Eventually, any generator brought online will match the grid frequency; however, it is possible to destroy a generator if it is done incorrectly.

31% of voters accurately believe the proposal presented by Ryan calls for major changes in defense, Social Security and Medicare. 16% say it does not change these politically sensitive areas, but 53% arenÂ’t sure. 48% of voters recognize that it is necessary to make major changes in defense, Social Security, and Medicare to make truly significant, long-term cuts in spending.
But only 33% have paid attention to the plan. This is also interesting but not surprising:
Mainstream voters who have an opinion of Ryan are inclined to view him favorably, while those in the Political Class tend to view him unfavorably.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of the Political Class have no opinion of the Ryan budget proposal, but 46% oppose it. Forty-five percent (45%) of Mainstream voters are not sure what they think of the plan, but the others by a 32% to 23% margin favor it.

Sheriff Larry Dever of Cochise County, Ariz., told a House subcommittee today that in one U.S. attorney's district in Texas illegal aliens are allowed to be caught crossing the border 7 times before they are charged with a misdeamanor and 14 times before they are charged with a felony.
Dever further said the policies call for considering federal human smuggling charges only if at least 6 illegal aliens are being transported.

Not that I do anything illegal, but I've always known that I could beat any copyright charge by the fact that I keep my wireless 'open' to others. Prove it was me, and not some knucklehead parked out in the street with a laptop. Expect new legislation by our betters to cover this ruling in 3.2.1...
Would the IP give 'them' probable cause for a warrant to your computer and any other electronic storage device? I'd hate to have to give up my computers, mp3 players, and external drives for investigation, then prove any and all of the MP3 or other copywritten files on them are legit, just because some knucklehead downloaded some music files off my open connection. Or worse, kiddie pron. THAT will get the police involved.
