Another fine example of why federal bureaucrats should all be fired
And their regulator agencies disbanded.
The SEC is not going to go after rating agencies over the housing collapse. When are they going to go after F&F and all the Dems that created the mess to begin with?

Md. robo-calls: Ehrlich aide, consultant accused of trying to suppress black vote
One of former Maryland governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.Â’s most trusted aides and a campaign consultant were accused Thursday of orchestrating tens of thousands of anonymous election-night robo-calls last year that prosecutors said were part of a larger attempt to suppress the black vote.
With the polls still open, an unidentified woman’s voice told voters who answered to “relax” because Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) had already been “successful” in his rematch against Ehrlich.
Isn’t this the same kind of “dirty tricks” that the Dems do all the time? When did this become illegal? My feeling here is that what they want to do when Dems “own a State” is make illegal to be a Republican.

If I thought the Repubs had any brains, I could begin to believe that when the added cost of the ethanol mandate shows up at the pump, the citizenry would raise holy hell and put an end to the mandate itself. Sort of like if you had to write the entire income tax check on April 15. But they aren't that smart, so I think it is all for show, and it will go quietly into the night.
Grover Norquist (RINO establishment tool) was claiming the elimination of the subsidy was a tax increase. To me it is elimination of one of many special interest alternative energy payoffs and skews the energy market.

and
"BALTIMORE (WJZ)–A brazen act of violence in the middle of the day leaves one person dead and five others in injured after a gunman opened fire on a group of people sitting on a front porch."
And you guys are already discussing the Ehrlich robo-call case from here.

The regulations they need to revise are the goofy ass regs for all the different gasoline mixes for different areas and times of year.
I heard an oil company guy on the radio recently saying that would reduce the price of gas some.
Right now, if there is a distribution problem, they cannot simply re-route gas from one are to another.. different mixes. He said if we could get it down to just a few different mixes for the whole country, the refineries would have an easier time and prices would drop.

FWIW, I watched a smidgen of Issa's hearing and watched the admin spokesman stonewall the elected Representatives about an operation that is so flawed and illegal in concept that it is truly breath-taking. It even lead directly (IMO) to the death of at least one Federal agent. Will DoJ put anyone in jail over this--I don't intend to hold my breath on this one, but it stinks to high heaven.
Where are Woodward and Bernstein when you really need them?
I called my Congressman and the staffer said they were getting a tremendous call volume from other people upset with DoJ and BATFE on this. Nonetheless, I fear it will vanish into the mist.

The Hill reports this as if he's changed his plan (which he's not), as he's more referring to what the Rs could achieve this election cycle. While the Dems still favor premium support over vouchers, leaving Medicare as an option alongside premium support (e.g., Rivlin-Domenici) is something that would garner more immediate support from them. (An advantage of such a system is that they could speed-up the phase-in rate, though it doesn't produce as much in savings.) Regardless, the bottom-line is that his preference is still vouchers and rebates (his Roadmap) but he's willing to accept this option this cycle.

There's too much underlying BS to not show up on the radar screen eventually. One other thing here is the ATF guys at the working level were adamently against this op. So much so that they put it in writing ona dicumented email. Thats unusual as hell so there must have been some very heated discussion around the table with management before doing so.

So, I see from the side bar that we will never see classic Star Wars in 3D. Cuz nobody is going to see Phantom Menace again. I tried to like it - I tried hard. But it's so horrible... I'll make a deal with Lucas. If he makes a "special edition" of ep 1 where JarJar is CGI'ed out of existence, I'll go see it. Twice. Short of that - no deal!
It's kind of a shame. Some of the space battles would look cool in 3D. I'm imagining the part where the A-Wing crashes into the bridge of the Executor in Jedi. Flying down the trench might also look more interesting. Or even the space battle at the start of RotS.

Simple answer: an effort to locate the sources in the US and MEX that were providing weapons to the cartels by releasing documented weapons to distributors and then see where they show up. I'm sure at the begining this sounded like a good idea.

Amen. The fact that the Republicans just let this crap slide is the proof that we're boned. They won't stand up for the law. Since honor and tradition mean nothing to the Leftist pukes, law was our last line of defense against their innate tendency toward evil behavior. Now even the threat of legal sanction has been removed. They're going to just keep on steam-rolling us, with fraudulent elections, refusal to obey laws or respect our rights, and shamelessly doing whatever it is they want. Frankly, I'm amazed that you-know-who is resigning. At this point, why should he? Heck - Obie could go out every morning and shoot a conservative on the White House lawn, and nothing would be done except perhaps a few folk would say how it was "in bad taste" or some such.

Well, yes, I got that part. It was the part where the ATF was telling dealers who were all ummm this is a Bad Thing to go ahead and do it anyway where I got a bit confused. I mean, it's really damn easy to trace where the guns are coming from when you tell the dealer where to sell it.

This is true. However, they have to be mined out, and then trucked over land along roads. It's a wealth of soft targets, and while the Talibaners hate us, I suspect they remember that the Russians were no friends, either. I hope the Russians do go in there. If it works out, everybody wins to some degree. I don't think wet have much to gain from keeping the Russians in destitution. If it doesn't work out, well, we get to watch the Russians and Muz fight and kill each other. Also perfectly nice.

Ron Paul Cap and Trade/AGW
A quick check shows that it look like Ron Paul has always been against Cap and Trade calling it a huge regressive tax that would drive away business. On the AGW scam itself in 2008 he said that there may be some human impact in global warming but felt like it wasn’t much. Also, he felt that evidence for continued warming was mixed. He felt like we should do “common sense” solutions like ending oil company “subsidies” to allow the price of oil to go up. That kinda sounds like BS to me. In 2009 after the climate-gate e-mail thing he called the global panic a huge hoax.
IÂ’ll give him a positive on this one.
Gun ControlHe has always been a strong advocate of the 2nd amendment and supporting the right to keep and bear arms. He did, however, vote against the two bills that would shield gun makers from lawsuits by the gun grabbers. He is rated “A” by the NRA.
I would still give him a positive on this.
Small government in general (spending and regulation)
On taxes he is so far into reducing taxes it becomes somewhat questionable. He wants to totally eliminate the income tax and replace it with nothing. Here is a statement from his site from a 2008 interview:
“I want to abolish the income tax, but I don’t want to replace it with anything. About 45 percent of all federal revenue comes from the personal income tax. That means that about 55 percent — over half of all revenue — comes from other sources, like excise taxes, fees, and corporate taxes.
We could eliminate the income tax, replace it with nothing, and still fund the same level of big government we had in the late 1990s. We don’t need to “replace” the income tax at all. I see a consumption tax as being a little better than the personal income tax, and I would vote for the Fair-Tax if it came up in the House of Representatives, but it is not my goal. We can do better.”
On spending it is evident from that statement that he would reduce spending as well. He was one of the few Republicans that voted against the spending bills this years as well. So his record is good there.
On regulations he said this after the bailout bill.
Since the bailout bill passed, I have been frequently disturbed to hear “experts” wrongly blaming the free market for our recent economic problems and calling for more regulation. In fact, further regulation can only make things worse.
Looking at some of the hits I got on a simple search it looks like he has consistently spoke out against government regulation.
I thought this interview with NBC was funny as hell.
They tried to get him to say we did need more regulations in the SEC etc to prevent the collapse. He basically told them that their regulations is what caused it and that if anything needed more regulation it was the Federal Reserve.
Overall he gets a plus in this category
Socialized HealthcareHe has consistently spoke out against socialized medicine in all forms and voted against it when it came up. He voted against BushÂ’s program on drugs.
He gets a positive here.
Border control/AmnestyUnlike most libertarians he has been an outspoken opponent of illegals and amnesty. Although he said that fences wouldnÂ’t do much good he did vote for the border fence in 2006. He opposes amnesty in all forms and wants and amendment to end the anchor baby loophole.
He gets a plus here.
AbortionHe has a strong record on being pro-life in both rhetoric and deeds. He believes that Roe v Wade was bad law and that the question of abortion should be returned to the States.
He gets a positive here.
SummaryWow, strongest review yet! Positives on all 6. So why is Ron Paul so hated by conservatives? There are two issues that are not in the 6 chosen categories that hurt him with conservatives. The most troubling one is foreign policy. He is basically an isolationist and wants to decrease the military. His policy towards Israel is also antagonistic.
The other issue that hurts him is support for decriminalizing drugs and ending the war on drugs. Personally I agree with him here, provided we can do some other stuff that makes drug use the sole responsibility of the “user” and the public will not support them in ANY manner, including medical care.

Ace's own words on the subject. I'm bolding it so that you can still see his italics.
There are few rules here. I lost advertising on the comments pages due to salty language. Rather than simply ban all salty language, I decided that, for now at least, I'd simply take in less money.
I'd continue letting people curse... despite the fact it was costing me genuine money, and a fair amount of it, too.
Did you know that? No, you probably didn't, because I haven't made an issue of it.
But check the comments pages. No ads. No revenue.
So I am in fact willing, in the spirit of creating a special community, incur some losses of income here. This blog has always had a limited revenue potential, due to the simple fact that I decided, early on, this would be a different kind of conservative blog, for the other kind of conservative.
No big conservative organizations are going to buy this blog.
Because this isn't exactly G-rated.
That was my decision. I did that. I'm not blaming anyone. That's my decision. I own that.
But there are problems, and heat, and diminishments of opportunity I am willing to undertake, and there are probems, and heat, and diminishmetns of opportunity I am not willing to undertake.

Doesn't matter what the subject matter was or how often Ace blogged about it. The fact of the matter is that Ace put up a crystal clear warning on the now deleted post to leave the collateral damage out of the conversation. A very small minority of idiots ignored that warning and proceeded to comment on private citizens and, in some cases, under-aged girls with vulgar and crude remarks. In other words, they did exactly what Ace had asked them not to do.
It wasn't an arbitrary change of rules. Ace said stay away from it, and apparently some people read that as a challenge. He was up front about it and then asked several more times, trying to explain his position, in the comments section itself. Finally, out of pure frustration, he deleted the thread and forbade any further discussion of Wiener.

They've made a number of attempts with regards to Amtrak and have achieved some cuts but nothing beyond that. The Dems and some Rs simply won't allow it. As for what they're trying to accomplish, the sponsor (Transportation & Infrastructure Comm. Chairman John Mica) states that he wants to bring high-speed rail to the Northeast in 10 years instead of Amtrak's 30. Here is what else he wishes to do:
The high-speed rail envisioned by Mica would provide faster service for passengers traveling to locations between Washington and Boston than the Acela line operated by Amtrak. The proposal would remove Amtrak from control of the federally-designated northeast rail corridor and transfer it to the Department of Transportation. A newly-created Northeast Corridor Executive Committee would oversee bidding process for rail projects in the northeast.
Unsurprisingly, the Dems had a hissy fit, claiming the Rs were "taking a play out of President BushÂ’s book" and could potentially "cripple Main Street by auctioning off AmtrakÂ’s assets to Wall Street". In short, the usual B.S.

Yeah, they tend to be trashed.
Disclaimer: the following is not based on any real-life principles under which banks/lenders operate, but purely based on emotion.
When we were looking at houses, we saw several bank-owned homes. They were trashed or unsellable. We walked into one gorgeous home, probably 3 or 4 years old in a great area of custom homes, and loved what we saw on the main floor... but as we walked around, we picked up a smell. Sure enough, we go into the master bed/bath and see carpet removed from clear signs of some sort of water damage. OK, we think, maybe we could handle that. But, gee, the smell of mold was horrible. Husband continues down to the (mostly beautifully finished) basement and we see the source of the problems. Whatever had happened upstairs, continued down to the basement. The mold stench was unbelievable (and I'm sure quite unhealthy) and the damage was way beyond what most people could handle.
So there are all these bank-owned homes and they are not being maintained, so they are not just depreciating assets because of the market, they are literally falling apart. If the banks put some effort into them up front so they'd be livable, people could buy them and maintain/upgrade them. But instead they sit there empty, ruining the whole friggin' neighborhood.
It was so stressful looking for a home that was right for us in terms of size and quality, but also that was in an area that we thought (hoped!) was stable enough to buy.

The Rs have a wealth of material which they use on social media but they won't put it into ads. I find that incredibly frustrating because they craft some excellent fact sheets, editorials, etc.

When Weiner (D-Queens, Brooklyn) was photographed by the Daily News fleeing the Capitol in his Nissan Pathfinder, it was clear the July 2007 registration sticker in his window was expired, and there was no inspection sticker to be seen. Weiner, through a staffer, said the 1988 Nissan Pathfinder was registered in New York State.
Not so, said the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
The New York license plate bolted on Weiner's Pathfinder - US Congress 9 - had expired as of 2006, according to the DMV.
More of this law for thy and not for me

I'd add no Navy ship should be named after a politician. One exception would be the USS Obama - garbage scow.

Glenn Beck just did an awesome takedown of Weiner, emphasizing something that almost no-one brought up--Weiner's outrageous abuse of authority to try to destroy an upstanding business enterprise (Goldline) for the simple reason they advertise with Beck.
Not just Goldline-- the entire business model for talk radio.
This was not a coincidence.

Oh Jesus. The RI Gen Assembly is considering a bill to go to allocating its EVs to the winner of the national popoular vote for president.
RI? Really? Jesus. Why the hell would a small state want to silute itself like that?
Additionally, I don't think it and bills like it in oher states will pass Constitutional muster.

There are states the split EVs based on Congressional District but it is a stupid move. Why not bind your Senators to majority Senate party votes. Kills your leverage.

They should just bulldoze them into the ground.
That's what I used to do when I played SimCity. Converted all of the vacant Residential areas into Farmland. Little did I know I created Detroit.
That is encouraging about the Bank-owned homes--I'm looking to sell my albatross in a market with 35% of the homes under duress. I poured a fair amount of cash into it and am going to have it shine like a zinc penny when it goes on the market. I still haven't ruled out strategic default/emigrating to Chile, but am still hopeful for a buyer.
Are realtors flexible on the 6% commission right now? I'd actually like to incrementalize it based on the selling price....

Denise Adams, 58, said seeing the red dots from the officers' targeting lasers crawl across her children's faces also has cost her faith in law enforcement.
"Qualified immunity"
QUALIFIED would imply that the authorities are fully competent, having thoroughly researched current updated residencies, to prevent attacking the wrong people before SWAT breaks down your door at all hours.
It's the FBI. As if they don't have ACCESS to information.

I dunno if it's encouraging or not. I guess it depends on what the presence of homes on the market does to the appraisal when you go to sell. There are bank-owned homes at very reduced prices that are literally unsellable - except to investors/contractor types who can make them livable again. But I don't know that the appraisers take that into consideration. So they bring the cost/sqft way down... how does that affect neighboring homes that are livable?
The other phenomenon is that if a buyer (which we were recently; pre-qualified perfect buyers with no contingencies) sees a wonderful home in a neighborhood full of foreclosures... will they buy into that neighborhood? We chose to avoid that. We got less of a "deal" but on a home in an area we felt was stable.
I'm not trying to depress you, btw, just sharing our psychology as buyers.
I poured a fair amount of cash into it and am going to have it shine like a zinc penny when it goes on the market.
We had our home really perfect in California before we put it on the market. It was in much better shape than any of the comparable homes. It really didn't help on either price or time on market, imho. We still took a hit. So I guess make your home look nice, but don't spend much on it in terms of time or money.

Some are, some aren't. Last year we did get 1% cut off of commission in SoCal, but they can kind of afford it because even the depressed prices there are so high. Here in Utah it seems like many people are trying FSBO. I would say you could try that route at first, but be explicit in your ad that you are willing to work with agents for qualified buyers. We would have been willing to pay 3% commission for our realtor (buyers agent) for the perfect home in this most recent purchase because a good realtor can negotiate the purchase in a way that saves you money.

Most pubic health department will condemn a home with bad mold damage because it is hugely unhealthy.
99 percent of molds are the stuff you clean out of your bathroom. Even in heavy doses they are likely only to irritate your breathing. There are companies now dedicated to only mold abatement. This is good because they can handle large mold problems but they exist because of the mold scare created by the newsmedia and Lawyers who want you to believe that all mold will kill you.
It won't. I have done some abatement myself and used companies to treat mold. If it has not destroyed the wood in a home and isn't the tiny percent of mold that is dangerous, it is an investment opportunity.

I didn't mean to say that the Obama should be hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away AS garbage.

Thank you, Y-not! Our neighborhood's in good shape--a more sophisticated buyer (i.e., not me in 2005) would take note of the high elderly ratio in my cul-de-sac. Our thinking has been that when the grim reaper makes his way thru Little Scottsdale, the heirs are going to be looking to sell quickly, so we'd like to get out now.
I appreciate the insight.
