Uggh. They identified the passenger that was killed in the Ryan Dunn crash. It was Zac Hartwell. I knew that guy. He was a former Navy Seal & Iraq War veteran. He worked at a bar I used to frequent. He was always pinching my ass. He stopped talking to me after I accused him of being gay for wearing a pink Kangol hat. Very sad.

HUD to spend another $1B bailing out delinquent home owners
How is it that they can do this w/o congressional authorization? I note that executive branch departments are spending money now w/o congress authorizing it since the Republicans took the House.

Remember all those short budget deals to avert a shutdown while they worked on a "compromise"?
Well stand by for round II over the debt limit that we are already exceeding. Keep in mind that “compromise” means the Republicans trade away all their advantage for a handful of beans and a kick in the ass.

Nikki Haley is starting to have the same problems with the squishy legislature that Sanford had
Here they are gearing up for a fight over stupid bills that they passed and she vetoed that allowed several school districts to fund daily operations by selling long term bonds. These bills were needed because State law wisely forbids this incredibly stupid practice. In the past school bond were only allowed for capitol projects. Daily operations are funded through property taxes and (now) sales taxes. Due to the Bamaconamy sales taxes are low and the schools are struggling.
The lying paper is all in favor of it and says it has been done in the past. I do not think that is true. They claim they have cut the budgets and staff but still must have more. All that tells me is they havenÂ’t cut enough.
The other thing it tells me is that shifting all your government financing into sales taxes is stupid as well.

Some analysis of the WalMart case decided yesterday
While this is a victory for WalMart, it is not an overall victory for the U.S. This ruling hinged on technical details of whether or not this case met the rules for a class action suit. It does not examine the actual suit itself as to whether or not some WalMart stores have discriminated against women (something I highly doubt).
This would have been a victory for the public if the Supremes had ruled that ALL class action suits were unconstitutional and thereby prohibited in the future. These suits are the worst kind of rip-off for the consumer and the only people they benefit are lawyers.
Likewise the ruling on Global Warming suits is no great victory either
All it does is say that the EPA has the word on AGW, not local courts. Does anyone here think we will get a real scientific analysis of AGW with the EPA? If you do I have a time share property I am willing to sell you.

Michele Bachmann
Cap and Trade/AGW
Bachmann has always been a very outspoken opponent of Crap and Tax and she hasnÂ’t minced words on it either. Her deeds also match the words as she voted against the crap and tax bill. (Note there were 8 Republican DIABLO traitors who crossed the aisle to vote for that bill allowing it to pass. 50 Democrats voted against it)
Here is a column from Hotair on the passing of that bill
Although AGW itself wasnÂ’t mentioned in the last debate she threw this little bit of red meat out there:
HereÂ’s the other thing. Every time the liberals get into office, they pass an omnibus bill of big spending projects. What we need to do is pass the mother of all repeal bills, but itÂ’s the repeal bill that will get a job killing regulations. And I would begin with the EPA, because there is no other agency like the EPA. It should really be renamed the job-killing organization of America .
She isnÂ’t afraid to attack the things conservatives hate. This is probably her biggest strength with conservatives.
She gets a big plus on this score
Gun ControlBachmann is solidly pro-second amendment in words and votes. She has received the endorsement of the NRA and has an “A” rating from them.
She gets a plus here
Small government in general (spending and regulation)
On taxes, what can you say, she set up the Tea Party Caucus in the House. She is also a former tax lawyer so you could say she is an expert on taxes. She has been roundly attacked for her call to repeal ALL capital gains taxes. She has consistently voted to lower taxes and to try to make them more fair. From what I can tell from the On the Issues site she would like a flat tax:
Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words--the length of the original Constitution.
On spending she is mostly good. She voted against the original porkulous package but she voted for the “additional stimulus” later in July. She voted no on the GM/Chrysler bailouts, she voted no on cash for clunkers, she voted no on the 60B “jobs” bill. In fact, it looks like she has voted against every spending bill the Dems have pushed other than the second stimulus package in July 2009. One wonders what was in that bill? She is also signed on to the balanced budget amendment pledge. Overall she is a budget hawk.
On government regulations she has consistently voted against increased regulation. The quote above on the EPA is a perfect example. She has advocated ALL federal agencies be audited for reform or total elimination. (Damn she sounds a lot like me).
Overall she is exactly what you would expect from a Tea Party advocate. She gets a plus here.
Socialized HealthcareLOL, she has been a strong advocate of total repeal of Obamacare. She also voted against SCHIP. A prime quote from the debate:I was the very first member of Congress to introduce the full-scale repeal of Obamacare. And I want to make a promise to everyone watching tonight: As president of the United States , I will not rest until I repeal Obamacare. ItÂ’s a promise. Take it to the bank, cash the check. IÂ’ll make sure that that happens.
She gets a plus here.
Border control/AmnestyShe has consistently called for closing the borders and spoken out against amnesty. I could find nothing on the 2006 McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill but that isnÂ’t surprising. That bill really started in 2005 and she didnÂ’t enter the House until 2006. In addition, when it became apparent that the Republican base was up in arms over that bill and even the Dems were not happy with it it was never brought to the floor in the House.
IÂ’ll give her a plus here.
AbortionShe is firmly and totally prolife. She had the best statement I have ever heard from a candidate when the CNN asshole tried to trip her up on that score:
BACHMANN: I am 100 percent pro-life. IÂ’ve given birth to five babies, and IÂ’ve taken 23 foster children into my home. I believe in the dignity of life from conception until natural death. I believe in the sanctity of human life.
And I think the most eloquent words ever written were those in our Declaration of Independence that said itÂ’s a creator who endowed us with inalienable rights given to us from God, not from government. And the beauty of that is that government cannot take those rights away. Only God can give, and only God can take.
And the first of those rights is life. And I stand for that right. I stand for the right to life. The very few cases that deal with those exceptions are the very tiniest of fraction of cases, and yet they get all the attention. Where all of the firepower is and where the real battle is, is on the general — genuine issue of taking an innocent human life. I stand for life from conception until natural death.
She gets a plus here
SummaryShe is plus in all 6 categories and is easily the most conservative candidate based on the above 6 issues. Ron Paul also had pluses on the above issues but Bachmann is stronger than Paul and doesnÂ’t have the major negatives that Paul drags with him. She currently has only one negative that I count and that is her campaign manager.
So why isnÂ’t she the major leader in the race. Answer, name recognition is the primary driver of the polls right now. She is also a House member which is traditionally not a driving ground for a run for the Presidency. But then again, so was Newt and she doesnÂ’t have all of his baggage either. But he has more name recognition.
One thing I do not understand at the On The Issues site is their graphic for rating her. They rated at the very edge of conservative and call her a “moderate conservative”. They rate Pawlenty much further to the right of her and he is actually much more liberal based on his record.
Truth in advertising moment here, Bachmann is on my short list for this election and it is based on this kind of rating.

The Conservative Case for... Protectionism
The populist pap from people like Ross Perot and more recently Donald Trump about raising tariffs on foreign goods “to protect American jobs” is a real turn-off for me. Why? Because I can do the economics. Stick with me here, and you will be able to, too (but I promise there will be no math involved). From an economics standpoint, there is really no good argument for tariffs—from the consumer’s, or the producer’s standpoint—free trade means everyone can benefit… assuming our trading partners are actually engaging in free trade.
David Ricardo and the Corn Laws
David Ricardo was one of the giants of “political economy”—a term for early macroeconomics. Ricardo, a Jewish stockbroker, read Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations while on holiday in 1799 and was immediately taken with the political arguments mathematical economics might present. He wrote his first economics article at age 37 and reached the height of his influence ten years later, after retiring from the financial business and entering Parliament.
Perhaps the best-known debate on the issue of free trade took place in Parliament during those early years of the 19th century. At that time, the landed nobility—the landowners—controlled Parliament. From 1815 to 1848, imports and exports of grain were subject to tariffs, subsidies and regulations collectively called the Corn Laws, which were designed to discourage importation of grains and encourage their exports. In general, they sought to keep the price of food high; ostensibly to provide good wages to the agrarian worker, but in reality to keep financial and political power in the hands of the landed classes and out of the hands of the bourgeoisie and new financial class. The landlords’ income, clearly, was based in large part upon the value of what they produced. The Corn Laws served to maintain agrarian elite power.
With the advent of the Industrial Revolution, a class of wealthy, urban capitalist emerged. The wages they had to pay were determined in part on the cost of living. The cost of living was based in part upon the cost of food. Food prices kept artificially high hurt their bottom line. And tariffs on grain imports kept food prices artificially high. The political battles raged for some thirty years. However over time, the power of the landowners in the House of Lords gradually diminished.
On the side of repeal was David Ricardo. His principle work, On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation, was published in 1817. In 1819, he entered Parliament. RicardoÂ’s Theory of Comparative Advantage, which he used to successfully argue against the Corn Laws, states that specialization and trade will benefit both partners (real wages will rise), even if one trading partner is more efficient at producing everything than the other one.
How is this possible? The key lies in understanding the difference between absolute advantage and comparative advantage.
Absolute Advantage versus Comparative Advantage
A country enjoys an absolute advantage over another country if it uses fewer resources to produce a thing than the other country does. Suppose Elbonia and Krapistan both produce mung beans, but ElboniaÂ’s climate and soil are superior to KrapistanÂ’s, and that furthermore Elbonian labor is more industrious than the lazy Krapistani bums. Elbonia will produce more mung beans per acre than Krapistan and use less labor to bring it to market. Therefore Elbonia can sell mung beans and make a better profit margin on the world market than can Krapistan. Elbonia enjoys an absolute advantage over Krapistan in mung bean production.
But a country enjoys a comparative advantage in the production of a good if the good can be produced at a lower cost in terms of other goods. Suppose Elbonia and Krapistan both produce mung beans and parsnips and Elbonia enjoys an absolute advantage in producing both—that is, Elbonia uses fewer resources to produce either mung beans or parsnips than Krapistan. The central planners in both countries must decide how many resources to commit to both mung beans and parsnips. To produce more of one, land and labor must be transferred out of production of the other. Here’s the critical step: We can then measure the “cost” of production in both countries of mung beans in terms of bushels of parsnips, and vice-versa.
Suppose that in Elbonia, mung beans have an opportunity cost of two bushels of parsnips. That is, they have to give up two bushels of parsnips to grow a bushel of mung beans. At the same time, producing a bushel of mung beans in Krapistan requires the sacrifice of only one bushel of parsnips. Even though Elbonia has an absolute advantage in growing either commodity, Krapistan enjoys a comparative advantage in the production of mung beans because Krapistani farmers donÂ’t have to give up as much in terms of parsnips to grow them as Elbonian farmers do. The opportunity cost for Krapistan to produce mung beans is lower, and therefore they will devote greater resources to their production. Therefore Krapistan can benefit by specializing in mung beans and trading them to Elbonia for parsnips. Likewise, since Elbonian consumers now have a greater supply of mung beans on the international market, it is cheaper to buy them, and it makes sense for Elbonian farmers to grow more parsnips, which are now in shorter supply. Everyone benefits from specialization and trade.
This is the key argument in favor of free trade: While specific jobs in specific industries will indeed be “shipped overseas,” those jobs will be replaced by jobs with better real wages in different industries; industries which will expand to meet demand created in other countries where the work previously done here will be done, drawing labor and capital away from other industries. Americans and American companies will meet needs created overseas when American consumers’ needs are met by overseas trading partners. And as both trading partners become more specialized and therefore profitable, real wages will rise both here and abroad.
The Giant Sucking Sound
Proponents of free trade have met with a number of arguments in favor of protectionism. The first one I’d like to rebut is this one: We Can’t Buy From Other Countries Unless They Simultaneously Buy From Us. Remember when Ross Perot opposed NAFTA on the grounds that there would be a “giant sucking sound” as all the good jobs in the US moved to Mexico, where labor is cheap? Let’s consider what would happen should this shift occur, as in some sectors, particularly manufacturing durable goods, it already has.
In US citizens wanted to buy everything in Mexico, but Mexicans did not buy anything from us, foreign exchange markets would prevent this from happening. See, Mexican workers are paid in pesos. To buy a good produced in Mexico, the buyer must have pesos. But if no Mexicans wanted to buy anything in the United States, there wouldn’t be anyone willing to part with pesos in exchange for dollars. As a result, the price of the peso—its exchange rate with the dollar—would necessarily go up.
A more expensive peso means Mexican products would be more expensive for Americans to buy. At the same time, the more valuable peso means that American goods become cheaper for Mexicans, since dollars are cheap and plentiful! This means that Mexicans find some goods cheaper in the United States. In fact, exports to Mexico increased from $46B in 1995 to $111B in 2000. The exchange rate adjusts to make up for any wage differential.
The China Syndrome
There is one important exception to this story. A country can buy more goods from another country for an extended period of time if those purchases are balanced by a sale of debt in the form of stocks and bonds. In 2010, the US maintained a $2.73B trade deficit with China. However, China had purchased about $32B in Treasury securities during 2010, more than making up for this trade imbalance, and keeping the value of the Renminbi Yuan artificially low.
Quite aside from the sticky political situation of the Chinese government holding upwards of $1.7T in dollar-denominated debt (as of October of 2010), the plight of the Chinese worker and the resultant push for reform and representation that will inevitably follow can only occur when China allows those workers to realize the gains they are creating by specializing and producing products for which they have a comparative advantage. As long as China holds our debt and continues to buy it, this will keep its currency value artificially low, preventing wages there to normalize. If wages do not normalize in China, there is little hope that capital flows will create commensurate jobs and industry in America. And as long as this “super-structural” unemployment infects our economy in America, it is unlikely that we will be able to manage the sustainable economic growth we need to beat the Obama presidency in particular and our dour and benighted political class in general.
Sherman and Clayton
The Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 and the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914 (usually referred to collectively as Sherman-Clayton) prevent such anti-competitive practices as predatory pricing and collusion by American firms. Simply put, attempts by US firms to monopolize an industry are illegal. If a strong company decides to drive the competition out of the market by setting prices below cost, it would be aggressively prosecuted by the Antitrust Division of the DoJ (at least, in theory).
However, can we stand by and allow a foreign competitor do the same in the name for free trade? In essence, by keeping the price of their currency (and therefore the cost of their goods) artificially low, China is dumping its products on our shores below the true cost of production. How should we act when China acts to strategically drive American firms out of business in this way? Free trade may be in everyone’s best interest when we all play by the same rules. But when foreign firms are cheating, like the ones in China (and the American firms located in China), the group that suffers unduly is the American worker—both in terms of wages and benefits, and in terms of the total number of jobs available.
So even though I already told you how I feel about populist assholes like Trump spewing no-nothing protectionism boilerplate there at the top, I have to come around and tell you this: The position they hold is fundamentally correct, even though the non-logic theyÂ’re using to get there and their message delivery are at the very least, fundamentally flawed.
If we are honest-to-God gonna save our country, our culture, our way of life, then the time for protecting Americans and American industry from predators overseas is now.Posted by: Truman North at June 21, 2011 03:43 AM (K2wpv)

Thanks for posting that.
It's probably too late to save the US (and the world) from collapse (due to cultural, not economic, problems) but this would at least help us stall. Greater prosperity can paper over a lot of issues for a while. Anything that can help put off the end will suit me fine.
The other element of the "free trade" arguement that many choose to ignore is that we don't have free trade, nor anything really resembling it. Throw in the artificial swelling of the US labor supply via immigration (legal and otherwise) and you've got a real mess.

Very Interesting read.
My takeaway here is that the root cause of our trade imbalance is the profligacy of the US government - we are, after all, selling debt to China.

All those BS laws that FDR set up in the 30s and all those regulation that have exploded since the 60s are killing us. The FDR laws kept us in the depression until WWII and were never really tested.
After WWII we were the only industrial economy left so we got a free ride until the rest of the world recovered. When you started seeing Toyotas and Volkswagons on the highways in the late 60s you knew the free ride was over.

Amen. Rebuilding/subsidizing the rest of the world has been a thankless chore for the US, just as it was for Great Britain. The threats of war are greatly over blown, at least as far as nations warring against us. Nobody is going to war with the US over trade issues. They'd lose far, far more than they could ever hope to gain. So long as the US has a copius supply of nukes, we're fine. Not to mention that our conventional forces are still vastly superior to any likely group of attackers, and trying to occupy the US would be met with a fierce insurgency.

Also very true. The green regulation alone has been absurd in its over-reach. Who can even know all the regs? There are so many I can't imagine it's possible to obey them all simultaneously. Few are based in common sense. And the unions simply can't rein in their greed. They're content to kill the golden goose. Sickening. I don't begrudge anyone making a good living, but using coercive power to burden a company with $90K per year janitors (and the million other abuses we've all heard about) goes too far.
So many problems - so few leaders with any brains!

Look at a map to appreciate the size of the biggest fire consuming one of the nation's larger states.
Destroyed: 811+ 330+ square MILES of National Forests, State Parks and massive Tribal Reservations, Apache Navajo Hopi. What have the Native American Casinos to say from their blackened White Mountains?
Clinton's EPA Policy mandates set the stage prohibiting the removal of undergrowth in our nation's forests, and usurping ranch lands for federal grounds. Since the fires didn't begin at the highway proper, it wouldn't likely be a driver's tossed cigarette butt.
America shouldn't feel badly because "just 32 homes and 4 rental cabins" were destroyed.

Raul Grijalva, the Tucson Democrat who campaigned in California for funding to barely beat the rocket scientist Ruth McClung for re-election, is stuck rebutting blame falling on the most likely suspect, his voting base reliant upon illegal votes to amass a "majority" last election. Despite evidence that humans began the wildfires, rather than accept guilt for effects resulting from his own political policy, without an electrical weather storm to blame, Grijalva would promote the act of God causing the biggest forest fire in AZ history. As if God hates Arizona? It was criminal behavior. As if God is a criminal?
Gabby Giffords had announced her intention to vote for strong border patrol before being shot in the head while the conservative federal judge of the US 9th District was assassinated, Judge John Roll ("clearly not Loughner's target, Loughner being the product of an Obama/Ayers educational project).
DHS/FEMA sent mailings to homeowners advising them to get insured before a catastrophe hits, not to count on FEMA when shit hits the fan.
Obama is neither god nor blameless. But he is the potus responsible for policy. Antipathy meets persistence in Obama. Only a fool would put it past a dirty, vindictive politician's operative to have started the wildfires to punish Arizonans for exercising constitutional rights.
We need our national guardsmen home to help fight blazes and to help build dams and dikes in floods, to patrol our borders and domestic infrastructure from sabotage as has been their traditional role before GWB ordered them to Islam, consigned to perpetual re-deployment abroad.

And we've been gettign smoke from a massive fire in NC for th epast month pretty much. Getting annoying for us. But at least it's only annoying.
My mom in West Texas has been dealing with smoke for months now, from two different fires. The temps have been over 100 and about 2 % humidity some days. I just can't imagine going that long without clear air to breathe.
Course my husband is dealing with 115° and strong winds blowing dirt...
Oh, and as if West Texas didn't have it bad enough, they were worried that the Arizona fire was going to knock out their electricty. It got near some lines that carry 40% of the power for El Paso and other places.
I'm just glad our heat wave has broken, as of early this morning. Rain and cooler temps are back. I lost track of how many days were above 100. I think 2 weeks.

Dem lawmaker renews effort to end militaryÂ’s NASCAR sponsorships
Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) is readying her next move in a months-long effort to slash Pentagon spending for NASCAR and other sports sponsorships.
McCollum questions whether the U.S. military should be spending hundreds of millions of dollars on sponsorship deals for sports including stock car racing, professional fishing and pro wrestling at a time when the nation is running large deficits. Military officials and congressional supporters say the sponsorships help with recruitment.
The House recently “voted to eliminate funding for homeless veterans, slash community health centers serving low-income families and pass a fiscal year 2011 budget that would force 800,000 Americans to lose their jobs,” McCollum said recently. “Yet taxpayer-funded sponsorship of NASCAR racing teams was protected. I find this absurd.”

Rick Perry aids prepped for rumor rehash
The crusted-over rumors were in the ether among some attendees at a dinner hosted last week by the Manhattan County GOP, where Perry gave the keynote speech. The rumors, which have never been proven despite repeated review by media outlets, were addressed by the governor himself in a lengthy 2004 American-Statesman story that is sure to see new life if he runs.
The claims, which had made the rounds for months by the time the story was written, included rumors that Perry and his wife Anita had split, and that the governor was gay.

The NASCAR sponsorship story cracks me up. It's a recruiting tool. Just like the Blue Angels, the Thunderbirds and the Black Knights are a recruiting tool. Just like airing some slick commercial. These same idiots were bitching about the Super Bowl overflights as well but what they fail to understand is that money is going to be spent on recruiting one way or another. Although, with this economy, recruiting is much easier.
BTW, those overflights don't cost the government additional money. Those flight hours and AVGAS were gonna get spent and burned no matter what as the pilots need their required hours per month to stay current. Whether they do it as part of a local op at homeplate or on the road makes no difference. Any TAD costs are paid out of pocket by the aircrew.

Because when people complete unknowns make blanket statements about a credible candidate's lack of accomplishments, accompanied by accusations of misconduct without foundation, they are a waste of everyone's time. You cannot win on arguments when their foundation is not properly established.
Even I, who is by no means won over to Bachmann as our ideal POTUS nominee, would never say that she is without accomplishments, a "parody," or scandal-ridden.
You'll note it has now provided a link to a blog. So now the accusations against Bachmann are based on the "Sorosphere" (which no right-thinking human would take seriously) and an obscure blog whose sole purpose is to link Bachmann to this non-scandal scandal (circa a 2007 letter).

Bachmann chief of staff Michelle Marston acknowledged Friday that Bachmann was one of several political officials approached by Vennes for a recommendation for a pardon from President Bush for his 1986 crime. Bachmann wrote a letter in favor of consideration last year but withdrew it Thursday after learning of new allegations, Marston said.
In short, it is a non-issue. The guy supposedly got religion, asked for a recommendation for a pardon. She wrote one and then withdrew it.

From Yahoo Mail "top stories", which means most likely to make you bark, I think. The Gaping Void is in your head, MBM:
Jon Huntsman likes to call himself the "margin-of-error candidate." It is not an accidental phrase. In the seven weeks since the former Utah Governor and Ambassador to China returned from Beijing with visions of filling the gaping void in the GOP field, Team Huntsman has seemed interested in nothing so much as humanizing the candidate, in portraying him as modest and relatable. They want you to know that this is a guy who loves motocross, who dropped out of high school to play keyboards in a prog-rock band called Wizard, who drags friends and reporters to his favorite taco carts for lunch

Huntsman is a non-starter. The governor of Utah - his Lt. Gov - is not endorsing him.
It's imperative that Perry jump in so that these hangers-on will drop. That would leave Perry, Bachmann, and Romney as the three candidates. I think under that scenario Bachmann would eventually drop out and throw her support to Perry. I really think her candidacy was mostly intended as a warm up for her future career in national politics and an attempt to shift the field to the right. I'm guessing she'd be comfortable enough with Perry to withdraw.
I think if Perry enters, Palin will not. (Actually, I find it hard to believe she'd really enter with Bachmann in already.)

"...Over the weekend, Republicans seized on a report in The New York Times that Obama had ignored the legal analysis of top lawyers at the Pentagon and the Justice Department. Dodging the uncomfortable when the truth hurts doesn't solve a problem.
Granted, it was a blow to the establishment's prestige hearing another point of view during the '08 primary debates. But it is that establishment represented by both parties which has mutated our government into authoritarianism, implemented the insanity of PC as official policy, and ruined our our nation's economy. You think that more of the same is "credible"?
Following Obama's victory, Ron Paul founded the constitutional Tea Party and "surprisingly" wins Republican convention straw polls today despite smear tactics.
America has reached the Dollar's dead end. We don't have 10 functional economic years to make Ryan's adjustments. Yet you would cling bitterly to another Keynesian Ivy Beleaguering "winnable non-partisan" candidate.
So long as voters elect politicians who bind us to bail-out globalist banks/investments/insurance (whose vested interest is to assume ownership, no more sovereign nations, no more US Constitutional Republic) we are doomed to our own stuck on stupid demise for accepting the assumption of the Ponzi pirate debts.
Separating our US Treasury from the private globalist interests of the Federal Reserve is the first step to America's economic survival. No economy, no nation, let alone "Prestige" to protect.
The brilliant Mark Steyn promotes the same economic platform for America as Ron Paul has. You want to doubt Mark Steyn's credibility?
We've already witnessed every generic GOP candidate assuming Ron Paul's firm position against nation building, with candidates all promising to bring our troops home from Afghanistan. Bill Kristol, heir to neo-conservatism, admitted that nation building was a miserable unfortunate exercise in futility.
There is a huge distinction between interventionist neo-conservatism that enforces PC dogma vs. constitutional conservatism; just as great a difference as exists between isolationism vs. anti-interventionism.
Ron Paul's constitutional platform is for domestic economic growth through free trade, to secure the Dollar's value free of the Federal Reserve's abuses, to remain a sovereign nation rather than function as property of the UN to serve as their Military protecting their interests that are at direct odds with the US Constitution. As CinC, Ron Paul would order our Military to protect America, not globalist pirates. That so many US citizens identify with the globalist pirates is where things stand '12.
I supported Fred Thompson's '08 campaign because it was the only platform promoting First Principles and common sense to protect the Constitution, hence protecting America. Since Fred's departure from campaigning '08, Palin adopted Thompson's rhetoric, though she's certainly not the man, and won't be able to argue as Teh Fred made points. Still, aside from Ron Paul, there is no other candidate prepared in the functional strengths of the Austrian School of Economics.
The generic Republican candidates will make promises they'll have no way or even intent to actually deliver: a strong Dollar, new business friendly tax code and lower taxes for citizenry via SMALLER, SMARTER GOVERNANCE with cut spending across the board, top heavy down, emphasis on strengthening local governance.
Incredibly credible?
what system works vs. what fails big

CHICAGO (Reuters) – The American Medical Association on Monday reaffirmed its position that individuals should be responsible for buying health insurance, a contentious provision of U.S. healthcare reform.
The health reform law's requirement that everyone buy insurance is facing a legal challenge by 26 states that contend the government cannot compel citizens to engage in commerce.
See comrades, doctors are for Barry Care so why aren't you?
President Barack Obama in 2009 took his healthcare campaign to the annual meeting of the influential AMA, which represents 250,000 doctors and has historically been opposed to a bigger government role in healthcare.

from teh sidebar-->
Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Monday added to state lawmakers' special session agenda a measure that would criminalize "enhanced pat-downs" by Transportation Security Administration agents at airports in the Lone Star State.
The bill died during the regular session of the Texas Legislature, which ended May 30, and the Republican governor -- who is thinking of running for president -- has been under pressure from conservatives and Tea party groups to ask lawmakers to reconsider the measure. During special sessions, the Legislature may only consider items that the governor puts on the agenda.
The bill would make it a Class A misdemeanor -- punishable by up to a year in prison or a $4,000 fine -- for a TSA agent to "touch the anus, sexual organ, buttocks, or breast of another person, even through that person's clothing" for the purpose of "granting access to a building or a form of transportation."
Alright, here's an issue near and dear to my heart. End the patdowns and feelups by TSA pervs. Promise to pass this on the Fed. Level Gov Perry and you'll be first in line for my vote in 12.

No. From the Jackass: The Movie (wiki): Because of the nature of the film, everyone involved knew they could get away with doing stunts that would never get past television network censors. To that end, they included skits that involved profanity (such as Bam Margera vowing and making good on getting his mother to use profanity on camera), extreme stunts (such as Rocket Skates, which was filmed for the television show but wasn't allowed to air due to the network censors), and extremely crude humor (such as Butt X-Ray, which involves inserting a toy car wrapped in a condom into Ryan Dunn's rectum and getting X-rays of the car inside his anus, or Dave England defecating in a display toilet in a plumbing store showroom).

Most of the stunts involve a hidden camera, and whatever humor there is comes more from the bystanders' reactions than the stunt itself. Some of it is funny, especially the earlier TV show stuff. But eventually it seemed like they were just running out of ideas, and they became too recognizable to get away with "candid camera" type stuff.

Another day, another story of MORE Section 8 housing going in to nice areas around where I live.
HUD settled with the local Housing Authority and in the middle gets screwed the poor taxpayers that's already seen diminishing property values.
This is the fine quote from our local Housing chairman:
"The whole goal here is to not have neighborhoods with a high concentration of vouchers," said Lamont Taylor, chairman of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority's board. "We don't want to concentrate poverty. We want to make sure it's spread out".
Right out of Zero's playbook, huh?

Yeah, unfortunately most people don't realize that the whole Obamacare/government/single payer mess actually pits the doctor's family against the patient's best interest.
ie. mega-volume half-assed treatment is the only way to earn a decent living after investing all that time and money becoming a doc.
Guess who's interest- his family's or his patient's - the doc will choose to support.
Pain killers for everyone! It's cheaper than cures.

David Cameron said those who use ‘reasonable force’ to protect their families would not face the ordeal of being hauled through the courts themselves.
Although the current law allows a similar provision, the Premier said he would clarify which defence actions would be legal and which not.

The problem with comparing Gunwalker to the "Reichstag Fire" is that the Nazis wished they'd thought of starting it. Historians have pretty much settled on the actual guy who was convicted of setting the fire.
Not that the Nazis weren't all about false flags; they were. See, Poland 1939.
The Reichstag Fire is comparable to the Rosenbergs (guilty) or McCarthy (the government was full of Soviet agents). The Left is a pit bull when it comes to memes they like.

Don't fret. It helps narrow the field and aids focus. I guess that he's still playing media games, so as to stay in the good graces of the NE media and political beautiful people. Meanwhile, local radio stations are playing hate messages paid for by union thugs about how Christie is "taking away the rights of middle class families". The problem for them is, they are paying out less and getting far more than the average midle class worker. The SF pension factoid underscores this.

1. There is no way in H-E-double-toothpicks that associating the main character of the peanuts comic strip with a sex toy is in any way, shape, or form superior to someone using the 'F' word. I rather doubt that any ad company looking for grace, purity of essence and wholesome values is going to love the former and hate only the latter.

Not unless announcing that bin Laden was already dead was the responsible factor for Bhutto's assassination.
Bin Laden died years ago from his incurable disease. Bhutto was assassinated within a week of announcing that bin Laden was known to be dead.
That all occurred years ago; so again, Obama's claim to fame is predictably incredible.
Lest one impugn Pakistani intelligence as the "enemy", Pakistan's wasn't the only nation's intelligence community aware that bin Laden was long gone and deader than a door nail. The CIA knew, and British intelligence knew. You'd research and find posted news statements and publications via retired field directors and agents that bin Laden died years ago from his incurable disease.

As for Nukes in NJ they have 4 making up 50% of their generation. During this period of economic crap they probably don't need any new generation.
As for approved plans for new Nukes YES there are pre-approved plans already for both the GE BWRs and the Westinghouse 1000 plants.

Yesterday, Patrick accused Dewhurst of undermining his anti-pat down bill on the Senate floor. Today, he took his complaints a step further and accused the Lite Gov of kowtowing to the federal government and sinking sanctuary cities legislation. --The (Houston) Chronicle
You'd think whoever edits a Texas news source would know that the Lt. Gov. is hardly the "Lite Gov" in the Texas Legislature.
Regardless of the editor's opinion, the point is that Sen.Patrick (R-Houston) sponsored this bill, and knows perfectly well that Dewhurst pulled the plug on its vote during regular session, that Dewhurst did campaign against the bill before pulling the plug.
What no one is willing to admit publicly is that Alex Jones' radio announced what Dewhurst had done to kill the bill, and in response, that hundreds of Texans showed up spontaneously to the State Capitol Building protesting Dewhurst/Perry weak knees, the Republican TX State Governor's administration having kowtowed to Obama administrative pressures.
It took the Tea Party voters' appearance on the scene, protesting, to show that they are still active, that existing conservative voters are angry with the establishment that includes Gov.Perry and Lt.Gov.Dewhurst who represent the anti-Tea-Party Republican Leadership. Neither were willing to take on TSA on top the current problems facing Texas State's right to continue issuing state commerce licenses (oil industry).
You want to credit someone for getting the TSA bill back onto the special session agenda? Get the record straight. NOT Perry until the Tea Party kicked his Dewhurst ass.

Coal has lots of issues, but over 90% of the US' fossil fuel reserves is tied up in coal. So much in fact that US coal accounts for more proven reserves by itself than any other country has in total fossil fuel reserves. Any successful energy strategy the US might have in the future must have better cleaner power generation using coal. And yes, modern clean coal plants do exist.

Supreme Mayor McGinn will require all the hipster to relieve themselves every morning on the streets. HOt urine does a marvelous job of clearing ice and snow. And it's "Natural"

I would rather have my 100° and South Carolina, you can go inside to avoid the heat but you can't avoid the liberal stupid.

"FAVORITE DEMOCRAT: I like Anthony Weiner, the congressman from New York. He has YouTube moments I find entertaining, and he's married to Huma Abedin, who works for Secretary of State Clinton. I have to tip my hat to him for landing such a hot woman."
Yeah, your a moderate Republican so of course you'd love a far left freak show.
"CHILDHOOD DREAM: I wanted to be Indiana Jones. I had the hat and everything."
Really? Because I see you more as a clueless twit who stumbles through life on everybody else's dime.
"MATERIAL OBSESSION: I love skulls. I have 10 of them. I love the way they look in my place. I have one on my night stand; one on my desk; crystal ones in my kitchen; one that's filled with vodka; some with diamond eyes."
I knew that you weren't big on brains.
"LAST MEAL: My father's ribs."
Uhhhhh. No thanks.

Police Investigate Car Part Thefts Along SEPTA Regional Rail Lines
Yup, another reason to ride the choo-choo, thieves can't make a living stealing from you if your car is moving

Strange how one becomes "honorable" as soon as they are elected to public office.
I wonder who thought of adding that distinction before the name? Could it have been a politician?
Posted by: gainsayer at June 21, 2011 12:22 PM (G/zuv)
They have to add "honorable" before the name because otherwise we wouldn't be able to tell that they are worthy of honor.

Your credentials somehow outweigh Steve Pieczenik's?
The incredible Lemelisk.

Actually if I remember reading about this correctly, the NRC did grandfather them on the cooling tower in a 20 year life extension they just got.
It was the State that shit all over them. The Democrats in NJ wanted any old excuse there was to shut it down. The plant already had fairly high operating cost due to age and it being union and adding a multi-million dollar cooling tower cost to it during a depression was not in the cards.,

Without a ship mounted railgun, how will we defeat the Transformers?! Without megawatt yield laser weapons how will we deflect or destroy asteroids and save Paris?! Seriously, the monies needed to continue these excellent projects is just a drop in the bucket. I don't want to go all paranoid about cruise missile swarms, but the damn things are cheap enough for any of our adversaries to stockpile and use if we do not prepare a look-down shoot-down capability. Besides, research on these types of systems leads to serendipity.

It all made the MSM evening news. And had you followed it, you'd have known already. What, you'd swallow what the Chronicle propagandizes without a counterbalance?
Pretty pathetic that it takes a blowhard like him to blow the whistle since his absence improves his show.
Perhaps he's lasted as long as he has because his pompous personality plays the establishment's useful token idiot.
What I find particularly egregious is that most people prefer blissful ignorance and group think scapegoating to researching informed sources that include Webster G. Tarpley and Steve Pieczenik.
