What a day yesterday.
I don't think I coulda scripted it to turn out any better than it did... except in my script, Weiner would resign.
But Breitbart taking over Weiner's presser.. that was freakin' epic. Then after all of Weiner's tears and apologies, I got to witness the meltdown of the leftie blogs. Daliy Kos was something.. they were turning on themselves.. gotta love it. I had a Schadenboner that lasted more than four hours and thought I would have to go to the ER.
All in all, a very memorable day.

T-Paw shifts to the right some more
CHICAGO -- Republican Tim Pawlenty was set to propose an economic policy Tuesday that would simplify individual tax rates to just three options and cut taxes on business by more than half as he offered himself as a replacement to Barack Obama in the Democratic president's hometown.
I am actually against these “simplification” projects. We saw what happened when RR reduced the tiers and the rates and eliminated deductions and called it a cut. In just a few short years his successors raised the rates back up and increased them, but did not restore the deductions. It allowed them to hide just how big a tax increase they did.
If they are going to tinker with the tax code I would prefer they go to a flat tax with no deductions and no minimums. Also limit spending to the amount taken in by taxes during the previous year. Plus tie all that to an amendment to keep them from tinkering with it every time they get a tax and spend commie in office.
But on T-Paw, where was all this when he was governor?Posted by: Vic at June 07, 2011 03:11 AM (M9Ie6)
More from the irony department
California's attempts to switch to green energy have inadvertently put the survival of the stateÂ’s golden eagles at risk.
Scores of the protected birds have been dying each year after colliding with the blades of about 5,000 wind turbines.
And we had to get that news from a foreign paper.

Is this the sign of the Republicans getting ready to cave on the debt ceiling?
Republican leaders are considering asking the White House to back a significant reform of the federal budget process in exchange for raising the nationÂ’s debt ceiling.
We learned back in March that the “budget” was nothing but a guideline anyway. SO the Republicans will OK more borrowing in exchange for a handful of magic beans every two years.

Issa will issue subpoenas. Guess what? They will still stonewall. This is the most corrupt and lawless administration since U.S. Grant.
Posted by: Vic at June 07, 2011 03:13 AM (M9Ie6)
And speaking of corruption and lawlessness
This is simply breathtaking. All of these Obama waivers for Obamacare are NOT part of the law that was written by congress. The Obama regime is just issuing them based on yet another taking of power so they can reward their cronies and supporters.
It really is time for impeachment but it will never happen.

Absolutely not surprised. Boehner's a prevaricating wimp, and I think the Democrats know that. They know if they get in a staring contest he'll blink first. And he won't even get his meaningless 'reform.' He'll get an up-or-down vote on it, which will be defeated.

Thus, Weiner made the most amazing confession conceivable: That he just sent a crotch shot out of the blue to someone he did not know. [ ] Moreover, he did this incredible thing knowing full well that there were political enemies tracking his every move on Twitter.
Sorry.
I don't believe that scenario. I accept every part of his confession except for the statement about the night of the 27th. I wouldn't believe that part if Weiner personally called me up and insisted.

Americans' disapproval of how President Barack Obama is handling the economy and its growing budget deficit has reached new highs amid broad frustration over the slow pace of economic recovery, according to a Washington Post-ABC New poll released on Tuesday.
The ratings boost Obama received after the killing of Osama bin Laden has dissipated with his job approval rating back to 47 percent. Forty-nine percent disapprove of his performance.
Obama's approval rating bounced to 56 immediately after bin Laden was killed last month.
Fifty-nine percent, a new high, gave Obama negative marks for his handling of the economy, up from 55 percent a month earlier.
Obama's approval rating on the deficit issue hit a new low of 33 percent, down 6 points since April.
...
Eighty-nine percent of Americans say the economy is in bad shape; 57 percent say the recovery has not started and 66 percent said the United States was seriously on the wrong track.
Forty-five percent said they trust congressional Republicans over Obama to handle the economy, up 11 points since March.

During the height of the federal government shut down crisis, on April 7, Rep. Weiner also sexted Weiss and bemoaned how he hadn't been able to share explicit messages with her because he'd been "punching the speaker" -- a reference to political foe John Boehner, the speaker of the House.
That same night, Weiner appeared on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show in a live interview from the steps of Capitol Hill.
Well. I can say with certitude that's what I'm going to start calling it.

Rep. Weiner Gets A Freebie: Jon Stewart Reflects On How ‘Ripped’ His Friend Is
alk about friends in high places: Rep. Anthony Weiner spent the day telling the media that he had lied to them and his constituents, and that he routinely sent racy pictures of himself to young women. While this is the sort of story that typically has the Daily Show writers licking their chops, tonight Jon Stewart went easy on his old friend, harping on how “ripped” his chest is instead of the fact that he called the police on journalists looking for answers.
Christening what most of the press has to date been called “Weinergate” “C*ckshot 2011,” Stewart took jabs at the initially released photo (“that’d better be his shoulder”) and made a fairly innocent joke about Rep. Weiner’s chest being so buff that James Franco was stuck inside it. Then he went straight to the press conference and compared Andrew Breitbart to Kanye West for appearing before Rep. Weiner, and called the entire scandal “the best episode of Maury ever.” Then he began a series of jokes about John Edwards before turning to an extensive segment tearing into Sarah Palin for her Paul Revere gaffe.

On April 16, a time when the House of Representatives discussed the constitutional authority statement, Rep. Weiner asked Weiss when she was going to send him nude images of herself so he could "jerk off."

Not sure, momma, but I suspect it is generated through all the turmoil roiling the air around the eruption. Acting as a giant static electricity generator. We are dealing with billions of watts of power, after all.

Found the answer easily (about lightning and volcanic eruptions). I suck at Google, so I'm surprised it was so easy to find:
Physicists have long puzzled over why sand grains and other small particles can build up electrical charges as they collide with one another, sometimes to the point of discharging lightning in dust storms or plumes of volcanic ash. Now, a paper in an upcoming issue of Nature Physics suggests that particles transfer electrical charge vertically during a smashup, such that positive charges move downward and negative charges move up in the cloud.

Even if you ignore the fact that it is not cost-effective it can still never be a significant portion of the generation mix. Even if there is a good wind blowing it is seldom a stable wind. There is this little thing among atmospheric scientists called Stability Class.
The net result of this is that the output of a wind farm is constantly varying in power and frequency. If you increase the percentage of generation being supplied from these unstable things then the grid itself will start varying in power and frequency. Grid people refer to this as "grid instability" and it is the precursor to collapse.
I have seen reports that the U.K. is already seeing problems from this.

Apparently the crap spewing out of the volcano is charged, so the theory is that's where some of the lightning comes from. But your explanation must account for some of it too.
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo (NJConservative) at June 07, 2011 04:46 AM (LH6ir)
What is the instability caused by? The huge variation in the amount of power, or is it something else?
Either way I don't want a turbine anywhere near me. I'll take a nice, clean, quiet nuclear power plant.

The wind itself is unstable so the power from the turbine will always be unstable. So if you have a LOT of turbine the total generation becomes unstable.

Can't they design the generators to produce clean power? This sounds like they are designing to impress with some peak power number and ignoring other factors.
An old family friend was a power company exec, and one of his projects was a coal fired plant for NYC. They wouldn't even let him start it for testing, in spite of a huge amount of data that showed no difference in emissions compared to oil.
He used to claim that we could pull enough coal out of one huge open pit in the Dakotas to run the country for a generation.

The problem isn't the generators, it is the wind itself which is never stable. If your power source is not stable than the output of the generator can never be stable. You could stabilize it on a small scale by using the wind turbine to charge a battery bank and then using the battery bank as the power source through an inverter. That is what a lot of people who have remote cabins do when there is no available grid. But that will not work on a large scale.
As for coal, it is evil didn't you know that? Even after the EPA has mandated billions upon billions in SO2 and fly ash removal equipment on the smoke stacks it is still evil because it generates the evil CO2. Now they want CO2 sequestration when there is nothing that works for that. All based on the AGW fraud.
