Posted this yesterday on one of the poll threads but it turned out to be a dead thread.
Latest PPP Republican primary poll for SC from yesterday with favorability/unfavorability ratings:
Romney - 27% (56/27)
Palin –18% (60/33)
Herman Cain – 12% (41/20)
Newt Gingrich –12% (37/44)
Michele Bachmann – 9% (45/16)
Ron Paul – 7% (38/31)
Tim Pawlenty – 4% (33/24)
Jon Huntsman – 2% (10/20)
New PPP poll for SC (sampled 1000 SC voters who normally vote in the Republican primary)
They made mention of how much Newt had dropped in the last several polls in the favorability ratings and how it spelled bad news for him. They also mentioned that Cain and Bachman were the only two candidates with momentum in SC. They said RomneyÂ’s rating only went up because Huck dropped out. They also said T-Paw and Huntsman were dropping as people found out more about them.
Frankly I am surprised that Newt did as well as he did given the shit storm he has created in the past few months and his infamous couch sitting episode. I think it tells me that people really are not paying attention right now and we are still seeing nothing more than name recognition.
Also, keep in mind that PPP is a Dem polling outfit.

It is clear that VDH was right on the Dems 2012 strategy
They are doubling down on the worn out race card. They must be desperate. Or it is as I said the other day, they have to run on everything but their record which has been an utter and complete failure.

Here we go again, look out Morons we been ratted out here
Like the 2010 budget where they kept doing the short term deals and then settled for a jar of stale peanuts and a kick in the pants, we are about to get the same deal on the debt ceiling.
I said then that that 2010 deal wasnÂ’t that important and the proof of the pudding would be in the 2011 budget and the debt ceiling. I donÂ’t think we have got a 2011 budget yet as that was the Ryan plan that has been shot down in the Senate and it looks like they will cave on both of them.

He is planning on
encouraging voters to back principles instead of a politician. He is worried
that there are too many candidates and conservative choices will be splintered.
Gee, that sounds like what I have been saying.
And no, he will not be running.

ACLU shows that it is not a non-partisan organization
They want SC to make another minority-majority district in SC with the new district that SC got out of the census. I guess they are aggravated that SC is down to one Dem now.
IÂ’ve got a better idea. Since we have a minority representing a non-minority-majority district, lets get rid of ClyburnÂ’s gerrymandered crap and eliminate him too so we will not have any Dems in SC.
But what this does show me is that SC is way behind other States in settling this redistricting stuff and it looks like it will wind up being a fight in the DOJ and possibly federal courts, thus endangering the 2012 election.

Are we seeing indications of the "end times" now?

Vic,
It;s the same thing here in Texas and we have George W. Bush to thank. He renewed the voting act crap for another 25 years because we are so racist, don't you know.

Well technically he signed it after congress approved it. But you can bet no Republican President, especially a squish like Bush, will EVER vote or Veto against the VRA even though Section V is blatantly unconstitutional.

You didn't read the FAQ, so I will summarize. Before you can be accepted as a commenter at Ace of Spades, you must post topless pictures of yourself on your FaceBook page, and provide links to even more risque photos, including at least one that is fully nude. Ideally they should include photos of you having intercourse with a goat or chicken, although the type of animal is dependent on what is available to you.
Good luck!

But when he talks to a bigger audience, that's going to include people who deal in science, math, and reality. Pretty sounding promises, logos, and slogans may be enough to get elected, but it's not enough to run a country.
Hope that helps.

Fuck David Frum over there in the sidebar. He's a damn socialist - and when his party of Canadian socialist friends wouldn't listen to him his feelings got hurt so he joins up with - American republicans? And now he wants to lecture the Tea Party and tell them to sit down and STFU? And worst, he's out there misrepresenting Ryan's budget plan.
Here's an idea for you David, go back to Canada and YOU put the fuck in shut-up!
BTW yawl got a solid Prime Minister in Stephen Harper. He kicked Obama's ass as well as the rest of the G-8 leaders last week at the economic summit when he was the lone voice standing up for Israel as Obama and Europe tried to throw Israel under the bus and make them surrender to the Palestinians. But Harper ruled the day and made them withdraw their anti-semitic proposal. What a kook that Harper is, hey Frum? Why the hell weren't you reporting on that? In fact, none of you left-wing bastards were reporting on that were you?
Hey Frum - Canada just called, they don't want you back either. Doesn't matter, the continent is big enough for both of us, but in the future - just leave the rest of us the hell alone. K?

Gov. RickPerry added immigration legislation to the LegislatureÂ’s special-session agenda on Tuesday, including a measure that would remove local law enforcement agenciesÂ’ ability to not prioritize immigration violations.
In a Tuesday afternoon statement, Mr. Perry, a Republican, also added measures that would require state authorities to check a personÂ’s immigration status before issuing a driverÂ’s license and also to check a personÂ’s immigration status when he or she is arrested.

Candidate on the issues a new daily review going through them in the order of that PPP poll.
Each day I will go through one of the top tier candidates and how they stand on top issues concerning Morons. Of the issues I have chosen they are:
1. Cap and Trade/AGW
2. Gun Control
3. Small government in general (spending and regulation)
4. Socialized Healthcare
5. Border control/Amnesty
6. Abortion (not a big issue for me but it is for others)
Where available, each of these issues will be examined against their actual record. If they have no record it will be judged on rhetoric with a qualifier as to whether or not they are dependable and trustworthy. Note also that “electability” is not one of the above issues.
I will start with Romney
Cap & Trade
His web site currently says
he is totally against it and he “unsure” of the facts in AGW. But checking his record as governor he was
for it before he was against it. He has flip-flopped. http://tinyurl.com/4x24a8z
Gun Control
He said he supports the 2nd amendment and the
assault weapons ban. That statement
is not compatible. The 2nd amendment does not say “may not be
infringed except for ugly weapons”.
Small Government
The Club for Growth gives him a mixed record
for tax and spend. However, the real kicker is Romneycare. Although he didnÂ’t push it he approved it
and then took credit for it. This was a massive increase in the size of
government and State spending.
Socialized healthcare
Utter fail
Border Control
His web site says he is
against amnesty and is for border control. So what is his past record? Well, in
2005 he was all for McCainÂ’s Amnesty plan. SO this is another flip-flop.
Abortion
While governor he was all for right to chose, now he is right to life. Another flip-flop.
So in summary, out of the 6 major conservative issues he has flip-flopped on 3, total fail on 2, and at best mixed on one. Note that most of these updates are from the “On The Issues” site which tracks a lot of this shit down.

UN Treaty Looks to Gut American's 2nd Amendment Rights
It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesn’t approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty” premised to fight “terrorism”, “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates” you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms...

Sarah Palin's "One Nation" tour has gotten under the skin of more than just junior high school history teachers. An Oregon Democrat is crying foul at the way the National Park Service appears to be bending over backward to provide special treatment for Palin and her family as they tour historic landmarks and visit state parks. He wants an investigation.
"I opened my paper this morning to hear about cutbacks in state parks around this country,” Rep. Earl Blumenauer told ABC News on Tuesday. "We have a serious backlog of maintenance in the National Park Service. And it looks like Sarah Palin’s little political cavalcade gets this amazing VIP treatment -- I’m scratching my head. If it’s a private family vacation, what in the world are we doing getting people in with preferential early admission and having an entourage of public employees? It looks like a political stunt, and Palin Inc. ought to pay for it."
A Park Service spokesman told the news organization that it recognizes that Palin is neither an elected official nor a candidate; they opened up the park early for her family and provided special tours just as they would "for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie."

Is it just me or are there more and more cases of cops gone wild? Did you see that sidebar on using SWAT nazis to crash into a house full of kids for a student loan scofflaw?? Who wasn't even there..!! Really..?? a student loan default..?? WTF??!!??
Then there's the Miami cops threatening to shoot citizens filming a cop shooting and taking cell phones and cameras and destroying them.
Then there's the case of the young Marine veteran gunned down in his house by a bunch of Keystone Kopp SWAT nazis when the young man wasn't even involved in the crimes.
All you real cops out there - this $hit's got to stop or the citizens will start responding badly. Consider that there's a milllion+ military veterans out here and most of us are armed and shoot better than you do. If we become afraid and untrusting of cops this will not go well for you.

Apparently New Speak has redefined 'human right'. I was taught that a 'right' is something you own innately. It does not cost anyone else anything for you to have this right. A right does not take anything from another. A right cannot be given. It exists outside give or take.
Apparently the new definition is that a right is when you want something someone else has, you have a 'right' to it. The less you do to earn these new rights the more you have earned them. Also a corollary exists in that a right is conferred for 'fairness' and/or 'social justice' - those terms also having been redefined in New Speak.
Yo! Trolls... have I got that right now?

Here's one for y'all--couple weeks ago, I did some work on a classic car for a good friend. Did the road test, etc. and returned it to him. 3 days ago, he called me up and said there was something I had to see. What I saw was the words "fuck you" keyed into one door and rear quarter. Really deep. there was more lettering started, but incomplete, as if they were interrupted. Cops were called, but after a private chat with one, nothing is likely to break on it.
So the past couple nights have been spent repairing the damage. It would be nice if the police DID find the culprits, and NOT my friend. Bad things would happen......

That would take the place of the 6.2 percent the workers now contributed to Social Security.
Another 6.2% is sent to Social Security by employers. Under the Sessions bill, employers would continue to make this matching contribution to Social Security, but after 15 years, employers could also send that amount to the employee's SAFE account.

"One of the key provisions in President Barack Obama’s health care reform law — his preferred method for getting Medicare costs under control — is facing a groundswell of opposition from unexpected corners.
Several House Democrats have signed on to support a bill to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a panel created by the law that is supposed to help control rising costs in Medicare. The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, a prominent supporter of the law, is now actively lobbying for its repeal, too."
This after Senate Dems reluctantly admitted yesterday that they are for some minor changes to Medicare instead of just letting the program collapse, then instituting IPAB. The Senate will never overhaul IPAB but fellow Dems and former sponsors agreeing with repeal ought to make them nervous.

I had an interesting conversation at work last night with a young co-worker who is in college. We were talking about the economy, and she told me that most of her friends who had graduated couldn't find jobs, but since their loans were coming due decided to go back to school for another degree, in order to fend off paying the loans.
Yikes!
The other thing she told me is that she wants to be an RN, but the waiting list at our local JCC is several years, as the demand to get into the program is that large. So she's just taking the prereqs right now and hoping to transfer to one of the Universities here that offer an RN program.
You people heard anything like that where you are?

Like the 2010 budget where they kept doing the short term deals and then settled for a jar of stale peanuts and a kick in the pants, we are about to get the same deal on the debt ceiling....
The short-term and final CR was finishing what the Dems were required to do for FY 2011 and "Ryan's" budget is for FY 2012. With these negotiations, the House Rs can ask for consensus over the appropriations bills for 2012 to be part of a deal or they could do it separately.
As for Kyl, he should be a bit more careful about what he says and try to remain on the same page as Cantor. The House Rs have a list of items they specifically want but it seems the Senate Rs may not have those same demands. Regardless, what Kyl is referencing is a short-term increase if the Dems don't give them $2.5T or higher. Depending on how long, it would still hold to the idea that, for every dollar the ceiling is raised, the Dems must agree to that plus some in cuts.

Not what you call 'uncommon'. If my status quo hadn't gotten disrupted in '08 I'd have done similarly, though to a certain extent that was planned--I'd have continued school for Internet Security training.
I've known folks doing that for ages, largely because the degree they got is actually kinda useless in the real world. Or they just don't want to live in the real world and kite from grant to loan to grant. At least one young lady I knew went into the military to try to cover her debts...of course, then 9/11 happened. Did I mention she was Left as the day as long?
To her credit, she kept her commitment and went in in '04. No idea what happened to her after that.

Our local university has a solid nursing program and has recently added a Masters in nursing as well. I think their tuition is the lowest in the state. Cost of living here is very reasonable and housing is still low, but expected to rebound as our Governor has managed to entice a lot of jobs to our state (many in our county).

Loan payments kick in 6 months after you receive your degree, no matter what, it's set in stone. And it's all interest for a long time. And they don't want you to pay down principle, they've actually returned money to freinds who tried to give their whole bonus to pay down interest. They don't allow that. And every single loan is now department of education through sally mae. Everyone I know has been changed over to this.
If you go to grad school I've heard that you still have to pay your undergrad loans. It used to be that you could just table them until you graduated grad school or professional school but now apparently you still have to pay your undergrad loans. Also in the past you could take extra money for living and stuff in your grad school loan. Apparently now you can't. A lot of parents are paying for living and eating for their grad school kids. Then again a lot of parents, if they don't want junior or muffy home, have brought apartments in big cities or are paying rent for junior or muffy anyway, even if junior or muffy doesn't have a job. Most people are going the americorps route.

What struck me, and her as she related the story, is that her friends are basically doubling down on their debt. She didn't mention that they weren't looking for jobs, just that their weren't any out there. She even mentioned law-school grads.
I just wasn't aware of the demand for people wanting to be an RN.
Posted by: HH at June 08, 2011 06:31 AM (6oDXl)
The other thing she told me is that she wants to be an RN, but the waiting list at our local JCC is several years, as the demand to get into the program is that large. So she's just taking the prereqs right now and hoping to transfer to one of the Universities here that offer an RN program.
You people heard anything like that where you are?
Posted by: HH at June 08, 2011 10:14 AM (6oDXl)
That's actually fairly common in the community college system, regardless of state. It's precisely because the community colleges offer programs like nursing, for much less than four year schools and with fewer elective requirements, that their programs fill up so quickly and are so hard to get into. Your colleague is smart to take what she can at the CC and then transfer to a four-year for the final degree.
Posted by: MWR at June 08, 2011 06:31 AM (4df7R)
I heard that they were anticipating a demand for nurses a couple of years ago. Between the problems of paying for med school (and the expense associated with malpractice insurance) and the passage of Obamacare, there is supposed to be a continued/increase shortage of doctors. Nurses, physicians assistants, and the like are anticipated to pick up the slack.
UVU is one of the largest comprehensive universities in the country, offering everything from vocational training and community college (associates) degrees through masters degrees. I don't know what it takes to establish residency here, but she may want to consider relocating to Utah.

Posted by: HH at June 08, 2011 10:31 AM (6oDXl)
Nursing is one field that is always in demand. RN and LNA programs are always very full. The problem, of course, is that if you don't like dealing with sick people and all their various bodily functions, you're not going to last long in any medical profession. It's a lot like teaching. People go into it expecting a job for life, and end up hating it because it's not their passion. You have to have a passion for it to either A) try to teach hormonal teenagers how to do geometry, or B) clean up the vomit your morning patient spewed all over the floor because s/he got food poisoning from bad shellfish.

And for Vic, if you want another movie full of hawt Brit birds, then you need to rent St. Trinian's. Came out a few years ago. It's set at an all-girl boarding school. You see where this is heading? Gemma Arterton, from Quantum of Solace and Prince of Persia and looking hotter than the sun's exploding solar flare, is the "Head Girl". Yes, she actually says it when she introduces herself! The rest of the cast is full Brit actresses just as hawt, especially the call girl squad specializing in Royal Family takedowns.

what would have been smarter is to get her aa from that community college and apply to the nursing school directly instead of taking out a student loan for (a useless degree?) at a 4 yr institution that she now is evading paying.....ah but hind sight
The problem with that is that the associate's degree program at the CC is full and very hard to get into. But if she can get her gen eds and other pre-reqs done at the CC, then transfer those credits to the 4-year, she can complete the nursing program at the 4-year school in less than four years. It's a significant cost savings. The issue is always the transferability of credits from one college to another, but doing some research beforehand is usually enough to clear those questions up.

Oh, I was in medicine for years, and yes, it finally burned me out. But there always seemed to be ebbs and flows in the job market. You might have some years when all hospitals were desperate for help, offering bonuses etc, and then lean years when hiring was fairly scarce.
So it's been a while since I've been keeping track of that sort of thing. But it was nice when that young woman told me she wanted to be an RN.

An majority of Dems wanted IPAB until they saw how people responded to it. When most people are told what it is, they don't want it. So the Dems supporting this measure recognize this but the ones who don't are hoping that people don't notice. The Rs need to keep comparing/contrasting their plan versus IPAB and tell people that the plan is to slowly make IPAB part of ObamaCare.

A lot of people who were planning to be doctors have decided to go into nursing. They figure the money will be "just as good" but without some of the political drama and regulations that doctors have to deal with. A lot of my guy friends got an MBA and are now in nursing school. People are going into stuff where they think the money will be, it's not the calling that my friend's sister had when she became a nurse. They are just as bad as teachers. they have a powerful union and become the multi millionaire next door when they retire if they use the financial planners provided by the union.

That being said, it is not the bio-mom's lack of education that will make her stand apart from the educated amongst your friends, it is the choices she has made in her life, amongst those, the path that led to losing her daughter.
I, too, would feel guilty about the fantasy but as revenge fantasies go, that's pretty tame.
I'm going to make a prediction, and you let me know later whether I am right. On the day of the wedding, you and your wife will be so overwhelmed with love and joy for your daughter that all thoughts of "revenge" will pass from your mind, and the only concern you will have will be that of your daughter's special day. Even more than that, I am willing to bet that your wife will be more kind and gracious to the bio-mom than even she might expect.
Pity is in order here. Imagine all the love and joy your daughter has bestowed upon you, and secure in the knowledge that your daughter loves you in return, the weight of bio-mom's choices will be more than enough to satisfy the fantasies.

SWAT Teams barging into your home at all hours.
It's what that television advertisement DEMANDING our attention for a stupid product "prepares" the viewing public to accept as the daily norm in America.
The husband with no criminal record "should" count his lucky stars that his wife's SWAT Team didn't shoot first opening fire from the exterior of the home. Had he been a veteran, would it have gone down as it did for the dearly departed veteran in Tucson who worked the swing shift before being assassinated by his SWAT Team, live rounds bursting through the walls of his home where his wife and children had no safety, either?
As per tax funded student loans, where in the fine print of the contract does it stipulate that those who default are subject to the "mercy" of a Federal SWAT Team?

That 6 month thing for repayment isn't set in stone for me. Just graduated last month. Both private and gov't loans have the clauses that if i need up to 2 or maybe 3 years of deferment i can take it. And that thing about repaying while in grad school doesn't apply to me either. Any going back to school triggers a deferment as long as the school informs the loan provider that i'm attending classes. Also going through the mandatory counseling I can start repayment at anytime and pay extra if i wish. Might be a NY only thing that you're talking about.
Depending on if i can find decent work, retreating back to school is looking pretty good, either try for grad school program or just get a teaching certificate.

As if "I'm on you're side"... appealing to the social conservative voters, many of whom wear blinders and don't study all that in reality Perry represents.
Personally, I like prayer a lot. And I have no problem personally perpetuating America's traditional cultural practices, participating in singing religious songs or in public prayer. And even if someone's public prayer included something elitist that offended my sense of egalitarianism, I'd let it go as their own expression, given free speech and all.
I do reject the so-called "sensibility" of atheists who demand that no one ever show any sign of faith when not at home or at a designated place of worship within privately owned property. I listen to what atheists say and read what they write and watch what they do in public without taking personal offense at their choice of selected belief system. So I reject the argument that only atheism is to be tolerated in public, just as vehemently as I reject any radical religious argument that only their brand deserves God's acceptance.
I absolutely defend American's constitutional rights to worship or to not worship, including the maintenance of the sanctity of one's body and mind --NOT to be abused or molested by anyone including employees of our government. Our religious freedom right supersedes our government's illegitimate "right" to suppress free speech.
I also protest any tax funds given to so-called "faith-based" federally approved programs of indoctrination, or to "secular humanitarian" institutions (the UN, the ACLU, Planned Parenthood,etc.).
Let charity be freely given from each individual towards individually chosen causes.
