Bachmann raised her profile, probably 'wins' by virtue of getting the most attention. Mitt does well by virtue of having no gaffes or anything to make him look bad. Pawlenty probably had the highest expectations and doesn't meet them. Doesn't flounder, but he takes a hit.
Gingrich is good in this format but not good enough to overcome his baggage. Everybody else makes no splash.

Activists cry foul over FBI probe
By Peter Wallsten, Published: June 13
CHICAGO — FBI agents took box after box of address books, family calendars, artwork and personal letters in their 10-hour raid in September of the century-old house shared by Stephanie Weiner and her husband.
The agents seemed keenly interested in Weiner’s home-based business, the Revolutionary Lemonade Stand, which sells silkscreened infant bodysuits and other clothes with socialist slogans, phrases like “Help Wanted: Revolutionaries.”

* Earlier: FBI misled Justice about spying on peace group
The search was part of a mysterious, ongoing nationwide terrorism investigation with an unusual target: prominent peace activists and politically active labor organizers.

Bwhahaha! From Mediate:
Chris Matthews interviewed two guests about the ongoing Anthony Weiner controversy, yet the most interesting moment by far came when Matthews couldnÂ’t hide his bewilderment as to why Eliot Spitzer, an up-close veteran of political sex scandals, was on television talking about Weiner. And Matthews seemed comically offended that WeinerÂ’s only future career path might similarly be a job in television. Speaking with Democratic Congressman James Clyburn, Matthews warned Clyburn that even if the Democratic leadership tries to keep Weiner from speaking out on issues, there are certain news channels that welcome survivors of political sex scandals:
Spitzer hasnÂ’t shied away from the story, and has even been confronted about his own similar past troubles. Yet Matthews wasnÂ’t quite done discussing the absurdity of Spitzer being on television. Later in the segment, after Alex Wagner suggested Weiner might be able to rehabilitate himself and find a second career in media, Matthews very humorously ranted:
“Thanks. What are we – are we the elephant’s graveyard? Is this where they come? I mean is this Spitzerville? I mean does everybody come over here when they have a problem? We have some bad precedents operating lately in this business . . . with all due respect Governor Spitzer . . . I would recuse myself from some of these topics, if I were him. But I’m not a media critic.”

Granted, it was a fundraiser, not a free rally. But the empty seats were hard to miss.

byw, page 2 WaPo attributes the root of this FBI investigation to St. Paul protesters of the '08 RNC convention, and is meant to test the SCOTUS '10 ruling opening the field of investigation/indictments against fundraisers with international links to search for anything (mentioned or not in warrants).
There is no comfort from tit for tat right/left FBI targets as our Bill of Rights are trashed with the best of intentions for our own good. Evidently, these grassroots and union targets knew Obama from Chicago. So are they Obama's scapegoats, offered up to provide distracting media cover for Ayers, Obama, Raum, Axelrod, or even Holder?
Was the baby bib silk screening self employed mom evading her taxes? How many baby bibs does it take to supposedly finance international terrorists? It takes the FBI to investigate small business enterprises for the IRS?
Then again, terrorists have no compunction against hiding behind babies.

“Tonight’s Republican debate was a reminder that we’ve been down this road of failed economic policies and proposals before. The economic recession in America wasn’t caused by bad luck; it was caused by bad Republican policies. But the Republican candidates are doubling down on the same flawed policies that led to the loss of 3.6 million jobs in the final months of 2008 and gravely affected middle class families across America.
“And if those policies weren't bad enough, we heard support tonight for policies as extreme as ending Medicare and privatizing Social Security - policies the American people have rejected over and over again.
“The debate tonight put into stark relief the contrast between the Republican presidential candidates and President Obama. Republicans want to roll back the protections President Obama put in place to make sure another financial crisis of the magnitude we saw in 2008 could not happen again. President Obama is making the tough decisions to get our country going in the right direction, has taken our economy from job losses to 15 straight months of job gains, cut taxes 26 times, and focused like a laser on getting the middle class back on its feet while those campaigning to replace him have failed to show they can lead on these issues.

Rule #1 of political events: No empty seats. Seriously.
If there are too many chairs set up, you take enough away to make it a standing-room-only event
If there's even a whiff that you won't be able to fill the room you booked, you book a smaller room immediately.
If you still can't fill it, you had better have some ringers standing by to fill it.

Will the Senate Pick Anti-Defense CIA Chief with Red Ties as SecDef?; More Damaging Disclosures about Leon Panetta
“Panetta opposed President Reagan’s military build-up in the 1980s, which was a decisive factor in the ultimate fall of Soviet-style communism, and he was on the side of the communists in Central America,” they said in a joint statement. “There is every reason to believe, based on his public record, that he will cut major weapons systems and even military personnel as defense secretary, putting the U.S. into a weak international position vis-à -vis China and radical Islamists in the critical years ahead.”
Loudon and Kincaid point to disturbing evidence of PanettaÂ’s long-time friendly relationship with identified Communist Party figure Hugh DeLacy, who had ties to identified communist spies Solomon Adler and Frank Coe and accused spy John Stewart Service. The evidence shows that, in addition to his friendly ties to communist spies, DeLacy had traveled to Communist China and Sandinista Nicaragua in support of those regimes.
Hugh DeLacy, 1940s
This evidence – and more – is contained in the “Hugh DeLacy Papers” reviewed and obtained by Loudon during a fact-finding trip to the University of Washington, where the material is stored. Kincaid reviewed evidence of DeLacy’s communist background in hearings conducted on “Communist Political Subversion” by the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities and “Un-American Activities in California” by the California Senate Fact-Finding Committee on Un-American Activities. It is not apparent that any of this material has been obtained or reviewed by the Senate or the FBI.

Morning, all! Happy Flag Day!
So I'm guessing y'all have heard about the Gay Girl in Damascus blogger hoax? Turns out the Syrian lesbian is in fact a 40-year-old married, male American college student (ugh) living in Scotland. He made up the blog profile to raise awareness or something; who knows how lefties justify their parochial world view.
Anyway, today it gets even BETTER. See, there's ANOTHER lesbian blogger, who goes by the name Paula Brooks, who edits the site "Lez Get Real." The problem, of course, is that Paula Brooks is not a lesbian. Paula Brooks is, in fact, Bill Graber.
Yes, ANOTHER man pretending to be a lesbian to "raise awareness" or whatever.
But the BEST part? The absolute BEST part? "Gay Girl in Damascus" faker and "Lez Get Real" hoaxter had actually communicated with each other via email and the like, neither realizing they were both heterosexual men, and had actually flirted with each other.
That's a double bluff blindside of schadenfreud.

Anti-semitism gets a shrug and a brush off at the University of Toronto. Me not being shockd in 5... 4... 3...
Anti-Semitism and a Classroom 'Jew Count' at University of Toronto's Social Work Faculty
“I was flabbergasted” Chambon disclosed. “[Professor Bhuyan] told me ‘racialized’ students come from underprivileged backgrounds and were justified in not wanting to be around old Jews because they are rich and would make them uneasy. I couldn’t believe my ears. I took some paper and wrote down what she said in front of her. Bhuyan then said the donor plaques at the university were all from rich Jews, which she felt proved her point. Aside from being factually wrong, it reflects an attitude that polarizes groups and reinforces stereotypes that do not belong in the teaching of Social Work.”

I always liked this lesson in value: "Truly I tell you," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." (Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4)
Romney proved he has fat cat sponsors of his campaign with his "miraculous" initial '12 fundraising sum.
Time will tell over the long haul which way the crow flies. There's room to argue given the current economic depression, whether voters are so easily bought by big spenders (who promise anything for a vote); or whether voters eschew big spending in this campaign power grab over our lives, resenting the Ivy Beleaguering elitism.

Governor Pawlenty, answer the critics — and as you do so — who say 5 percent every year is just unrealistic. And as you do so, where’s the proof — where’s the proof that just cutting taxes will create jobs? If that were true, why during the Bush years, after the big tax cut, where were the jobs?
Try up your lying ass you shit-weasel. What was the unemployment rate during the Bush years even after he inherited a recession? What is it now? What is the real unemployment rate now?

ROMNEY: You know, let me say a couple things. First, if IÂ’m elected president, I will repeal Obamacare, just as Michelle indicated. And also, on my first day in office, if IÂ’m lucky enough to have that office, I will grant a waiver to all 50 states from Obamacare.
Now, thereÂ’s some similarities and there are some big differences.
Obamacare spends a trillion dollars. If it were perfect — and it’s not perfect, it’s terrible — we can’t afford more federal spending.
Secondly, it raises $500 billion in taxes. We didnÂ’t raise taxes in Massachusetts .
Third, Obamacare takes $500 billion out of Medicare and funds Obamacare. We, of course, didnÂ’t do that.
And, finally, ours was a state plan, a state solution, and if people donÂ’t like it in our state, they can change it. ThatÂ’s the nature of why states are the right place for this type of responsibility. And thatÂ’s why I introduced a plan to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a state-centric program.
Utter fail, get rid of Obamacare and replace it with a State plant that does the same damn thing.Posted by: Vic at June 14, 2011 06:39 AM (M9Ie6)

The refusal of the IMF to announce it's suspicions concerning the origin of the theft of extremely sensitive data, potential market moving data, is of great concern. Have we so soon reached the point where we shall be cowered into silence and inaction lest we become victims individually and collectively? I find the current administrations churning, motion versus action, approach to these ominous threats to be a target rich environment for our candidates and I certainly hope that a cyber-9/11 will not be required to spur us to action.

And I fought behind closed doors against my own party on TARP. It was a wrong vote then. ItÂ’s continued to be a wrong vote since then. Sometimes thatÂ’s what you have to do. You have to take principle over your party.

"I think she did a really good job last night," Boehner said when asked about Bachmann's performance in the CNN debate. "I think she is a bright member of our caucus. It's one of the reasons why I appointed her to the intelligence committee."

GINGRICH: Well, first of all, it was a very narrow question, which said, should Republicans impose an unpopular bill on the American people? Now, I supported the Ryan budget as a general proposal. I actually wrote a newsletter supporting the Ryan budget. And those words were taken totally out of context.
How in the shit is "right-wing social engineering" out of context Newt? I guess sitting on the couch with Pelosi is out of context as well.

While we’re on the topic of faith and religion, the next question goes to Mr. Cain. You recently said you would not appoint a Muslim to your cabinet and you kind of back off that a little bit and said you would first want to know if they’re committed to the Constitution. You expressed concern that, quote, “a lot of Muslims are not totally dedicated to this country.”
Are American-Muslims as a group less committed to the Constitution than, say, Christian or Jews?
CAIN: First, the statement was would I be comfortable with a Muslim in my administration, not that I wouldnÂ’t appoint one. ThatÂ’s the exact transcript.
And I would not be comfortable because you have peaceful Muslims and then you have militant Muslims, those that are trying to kill us.
And so, when I said I wouldnÂ’t be comfortable, I was thinking about the ones that are trying to kill us, number one.
Secondly, yes, I do not believe in Sharia law in American courts. I believe in American laws in American courts, period. There have been instances -
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
CAIN: There have been instances in New Jersey — there was an instance in Oklahoma where Muslims did try to influence court decisions with Sharia law. I was simply saying very emphatically, American laws in American courts.

_________
Immediately afterwards, Romney said we would never see Sharia law influencing US courts.
Posted by: Anachronda at June 14, 2011 07:35 AM (IrbU4)
ROMNEY: Well, first of all, of course, weÂ’re not going to have Sharia law applied in U.S. courts. ThatÂ’s never going to happen. We have a Constitution and we follow the law.
I have some news for you idiot; it already has.
Repubs - no more CNN debates!

His attempted walk-back of Romneycare was total fail and most of his other answers on big gov type stuff was shit. I also note that CNN failed to ask a single damn question over the AGW scam.
All in all, I think Bachmann came out the best. Her answer on right-to-life was probably the best I have ever seen on that question.

Someone deserves to profit at any cost? Winnable panderer.
Along the lame side of economic recovery, last night Romney cried out for higher prices on homes.
*gag -- a fabulous quick fix for the mortgages under water, a miraculous cure-all for the speculative boom burst crash. I-N-F-L-A-T-I-O-N: The spice of life. "Use the voice" Mitt wants to be Muad'Dib Reagan.
What good to the average unemployed homeless American is the higher cost of housing? At this point of ruin, don't submit to another boneheaded Ivy Beleaguering Keynesian campaigning FOR INFLATION as the "solution" to either Depression or the pointed immediate question of how to return the manufacturing industry to America. That was the question posed.
"INCREASE THE PRICE OF HOMES!" another price fixer interfering with the natural flow of supply and demand. Hell, as if Romney's family was still in Mexico in 1929, providing his excuse for staying stuck on a failed FDR gambling gimmick. Being FOR TARP, whatever tax funds Romney would direct towards fixing prices would end up once again with Romney's globalist financier cronies.
"Promise Anything. Just get their votes." 2008, 2012 Mitt.

CNN of course did a shitty job with the debate. But so did Fox a couple of weeks ago with that pretend debate thingy in SC.
Debates with strict "formats" are not debates. Candidates can only screw themselves, or not screw themselves. You can't solve anything, and you can't look particularly good, except in comparison to others.

Newt lashed King and tutored his competitors "how to" respond in debate to a truly stupid moderator.
As wrong as right on issues, when he's on the attack, Newt knows how to stay on target like Gen. Honore delivering the sublime blow to the idiot reporter: "You're stuck on stupid."

Who sold out Clark's final words for public knowledge?
Did Fred Clark forget to hang-up before threatening the lady, recorded on her own machine?
Posted by: maverick muse at June 14, 2011 08:25 AM (lpWVn)
That part of the story isn't told. I don't know who recorded it, but it seems unlikely it was Clark himself.
I'm sure that will be the defense-- it was an illegal recording, or it wasn't meant to get out, or something.
You know who benefits from this? Anthony Weiner.

Yeah, Newt didn't come off too bad, other than his lame "out of context" excuse for the Ryan hatchet job he did.
Cain came off pretty good too telling the CNN asshole what was real.
The rest of them tried to do the normal Republican response to a hostile lying reporter, no response, just roll over.

eventually only the truly committed and patient will stick it out.
Plus I don't care what you think about the war now, I care that you know how to figure it all out when you get in. I care that you know how to lead, who to call, who to put in charge, how to reach a consensus that worries about me, the average American.
You can say all you want "we are out of the middle east" but look barack said that and he was in stark contrast to ole mccain who wanted to be there for a hundred years. And still, once he got there, he's replaying GWB on steroids. I remember saying "listen to what he says, he sounds like a war hawk" and you guys trounced me and look I'm turning out to be right.

1980s PBS series had a lot of big figures in a long-answer conversational format.
I learned a lot about peoples' stupid ideas from that. The Buckley ones were pretty good.
I'm sure the libs getting beat up is why the series didn't continue.
