This only makes sense if it is because the gun is unloaded.
The bill would make it a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and a steep fine, to openly carry an unloaded handgun “on one’s person or in a vehicle.”

Either that or he'll stomp his little foot and demand to know why it didn't work for him when it worked so well for Reagan. Michelle better prepare because one way or another she's going to have a whinny brat on her hands tonight.

Supposedly the Republicans called a news conference for 9 this morning. Don't know if it is just House members or House and Senate. Curious as to what they are going to say....
I heard that as well. I am surprised there hasn't been more mention of it.
Could be a good tactic, especially if they force Jugears to react to them instead of saying what he wanted to say. My hope is that they'll go out and make public their requirements for a debt ceiling hike and tell the Democrats to come back and negotiate when they're ready to accept.
Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater at July 15, 2011 04:47 AM (JxMoP)
Moody's will downgrade us if no debt ceiling raise is passed, justifiably, because some payments will be missed. While annually, there's plenty of money to pay off maturing bonds first, in the next few weeks about half a trillion come due and there is no way to cover all of them on time. Payments would be late for just a little bit, but let's face it, we shouldn't have the Aaa rating anyway.
S&P will downgrade us if anything like the plans currently under discussion are passed, justifiably, because our debt is clearly growing beyond our ability to ever pay it off (because we literally have to borrow money to make the current payments and that reality only gets worse the deeper in debt we go, and unfortunately, the lower our GDP goes in the next couple of quarters).

Textbooks now must include information on the role of LGBT Americans, as well as Americans with disabilities, though California's budget crisis has delayed the purchasing of new books until at least 2015.
"History should be honest," Brown, a Democrat, said in a statement. "This bill revises existing laws that prohibit discrimination in education and ensures that the important contributions of Americans from all backgrounds and walks of life are included in our history books."
The governor called the legislation, SB48, introduced by Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, "historic."
The law - the first of its kind in the nation - adds the two groups to an existing list of minority and other groups that are required to be part of the social sciences curriculum.

"Black men are half as likely to die at any given time if they're in prison than if they aren't, suggests a new study of North Carolina inmates." -- Reuters Health, Genevra Pittman.
Compassionate penal life because we care.
Blacks survive in prison (a la slavery) being incapable of descent civility when granted freedom? Does North Carolina really, actually expect other states to agree or admit to the same inmate statistics? Taking bets, NAACP and Southern Poverty Law Center are already filing suit against the State of NC for propagandizing racially motivated hate speech, releasing statistics, as if released inmates being free to commit criminal behavior has no bearing on survival rates outside of prison. Given free reign, black on black crime never happens, nothing to see there.
The study headlines a commentary on the evolution of expectations regarding prison, rehabilitation, the revolving door and early release due to overcrowding.
Is the tax paying reader motivated to cause prisons to again become financially self sufficient via inmate work programs, inmates financing their own room/board/benefits, prison life being the training of a full time work force with exercise breaks and literacy study after supper?

I can't believe I am up. Saw Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 at the midnight show last night. I guess there are some things people will still spend money on - there were 13 late shows in my little town and all were sold out; they even added 3 a.m. shows! This movie will easily top $1 billion before it's done.
Great movie. Ending is a bit maudlin but it is true to the book. Final scenes with Snape are breathtaking; Alan Rickman steals this movie. I think parents especially will like this one; there are some exquisite parental moments in it that will choke you up. I went to see it with my husband and our two teenagers, and when it was over our son just got up and said "well, my childhood is officially over."

Meh. "Cataclysmic" is a bit over the top. You're assuming that the government has to borrow money to spend, which is not the case. (Nor does it "need" to tax, either) We only 'borrow' money because we choose to run elements of the system as if it were still hard money instead of fiat.
If we don't pay the debt, any part of it, at any time, it is purely, 100%, a poltical decision.

Apparently there are weapons, readily available in border states, that they describe as "semi-automatic battlefield weapons." Presumably they are referring to sidearms and, perhaps, the odd military shotgun. I can't think of any other military weapon that is a semi-auto.
Of course the editors of the NYT are intimately familiar with weapons, no doubt because of their long service in the military and their life-long dedication to the hunting sports.

Besides, there's no point distracting attention to dead men while Present Obama stays in the closet.
Sexuality should remain a private matter. It's needy depravity, the constant public exposition of sexual organs in sexual acts. Juveniles stay stuck on stupid, constantly demanding "Look at me!" regardless of their age that should reflect maturity. That they've taken things to the extreme, denying children gender, proves too much, that the homosexual agenda is destructive and not reasonable.

We pretty much bring in enough on a monthly basis to service our debts. There might be 2-3 months a year where very large amounts of debt need to be paid off, but they are balanced by months where we bring in enough to pay off our debt service obligations, SS, Medicare and medicaid, military pay and pensions, VA costs, SSI and food stamps. All other programs would have to be cut, in an atmosphere of fierce competition for a greatly diminished amount of debt, but hey, that should be what we want.
Hat tip to Truman North for pointing this out the other day.

“I think that I am a pretty normal, average person, despite all of the hype,” Clinton said in an interview with the BBC conducted Thursday. “And I am very interested in spending time with my friends and my family and not being on the merry-go-round all the time.”
That, she said, is why she plans to “move on and return to
private life at the end of what will be a very intense period of
activity and work in the next 18 months.”

Btw, on the radio news I just heard Boehner say that there was no rift between him and Cantor; dunno if that was the presser that was being mentioned or not.

I don't blame her. I would be tired of keeping the deck chairs in a row too.

I agree that money printing beyond the needs of the economy is a bad thing. Inflation, and all that. But I'm just saying that if we default it's only because we choose to, and it is a policy, rather than fiscal, decision. And a bad decision, in my opinion. As a creditor I'd prefer devalued dollars to no dollars at all.
And I'm sure that it will not be necessary to "seize" the presses. Especially since most spending is simply changing numbers in bank accounts. This situation is far less dramatic than people seem to think.

This is true. But not really relevant to whether debts can be paid. The federal government, unlike states and cities, isn't revenue constrained in real life. The only reason to try to balance out-go with income is to control inflation resulting from expansion of the money supply.

Why haven't I heard about this?
Pentagon admits 24,000 computer files were stolen by 'foreign power'
The Pentagon has admitted a foreign power hacked and stole 24,000 files from the United States this year forcing them to treat the internet as a warzone.
The audacious theft was announced as Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn launched a new online security strategy, which now classes cyberspace as an 'operational domain' like the sea, air and land.
This new plan has been sparked by the admission that computers within a U.S. defence contractor were successfully attacked...
Link to the Daily Mail (UK).
I don't watch the news, I only read it online, so I don't know if this has been reported anywhere. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Much interested in Bachmann proving herself one way or the other on holding the line, on unifying Republican votes on the American voters' mandate for cut spending and lower taxes.
Perry's likely to remain silent in order to keep his nose clean from the debt ceiling inflation. He'd ride the inflated balloon out of Oz to get out of the job cleaning up the rubble from his gutted Governor's Mansion. That hardly imbues trust in a CinC Perry promoting more of the "fight abroad so we don't have to take care of problems at home" neoconservative mantra. Perry's campaign style is to smear opponents with false implications Alinksy style. Whereas, to date by maintaining a campaign simply "for America" rather than for specific office, Palin hasn't felt the need to stoop to false allegations when ridiculing Obama's agenda. Should both enter the '12 potus race, we'll be choosing between a candidate who feels entitled to perpetually remain in office vs. a candidate who bases tenure of official service on what's best for the citizens (another parallel from Fred Thompson). Though I don't think Teh Fred appreciates being compared to Palin's "originality" (credit), he might find some humor in who chose to take up where he left off. Lesson still applies, teaching the pig to dance.
Establishment elitist Republican Leaders don't include the Libertarian/Republican Tea Party campaign broadcasting the tax paying citizen voice of disapproval, demanding that Washington halt their spending spree, not accepting their recurring promises for future cuts, the future being irrelevant to immediacy. As Mark Steyn respectfully pointed out regarding Paul Ryan's Roadmap, America does not have 10 years to play along the establishment corporatist elitists' manners, aka corruption. Carrying the banner is a significant role. Garnering the congressional votes to force the spending cuts is as important as garnering voters for election.
It's too soon to tell. By waiting as she is, and given her immediate assumption of Fred Thompson's rhetoric after his departure and then McCain's failure, likely Palin will also adopt the best features from other candidates for her own campaign should she run. Perry's likely planning the same tactics. So between those two, it all depends on who believes whom in the public opinion voting poll.
What the debt ceiling "negotiations" will prove amongst voters is whether tax payers really belong to the Tea Party movement. From what this blog reflects, though many refuse to admit it, too many here enjoy the sensation of status while riding on the establishment's failing bandwagon, maintaining a seniority preference. That despite seniority leadership refusing their innate responsibility to repair what they themselves broke, to stop overspending and overprinting, to halt their corrupt part having caused the downfall of the Dollar. Gumble, rail, bitch and moan about Lindsey Graham and John McCain while torching Ron Paul is playing Graham/McCain's apologist. The Republican Party leadership despise the Tea Party movement, and will never lend support for the Tea Party agenda -- another Mark Steyn observation.
So will voters actually speak through the '12 ballot to castigate established corruption as resounded in '10 results? America will answer on the ballot the Obama boast of his persistence.

24k files admitted "stolen" means at least 24,00010 cubed were "stolen".
No secret, the State Dept. "Reset" translated from Russian into over-charged.
And the Clintons have a track record giving away our Military secrets to China, and thieving records from the National Archive without being themselves penalized.
That Obama takes corruption and the demise of our nation and our national security to unprecedented levels is no secret.

I try not watch the Captivate screen in the elevator at work, I really do. But I had to read this shite yesterday:
