Boner has one deal Harry has another

With no debt deal done and both sides racing an Aug. 2 deadline, Democrats and Republicans on Sunday readied separate backup plans to try to raise the governmentÂ’s borrowing limit and cut spending.

House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, pitched his colleagues on a plan to raise the borrowing limit by about $1 trillion and match that with similar sized spending cuts — enough to last through the rest of the year, and leaving for later the heavy lifting on taxes and bigger spending items.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he is working on a plan to raise the debt limit by $2.7 trillion, coupled with an equal reduction in projected future spending. In a concession to Republicans, he said that plan would not include tax increases, but that the new debt level would last through the 2012 elections.

I suspect the Dem plan is the same old give us money and we will pinky swear to cut spending 10 years down the road.

Is Maine turning around? Will the ME sisters start hearing the pounding of voters feet calling instead of History?

The 62-year-old chief executive has rolled back business regulations, trimmed MaineÂ’s welfare system, signed the biggest tax cuts in state history and annoyed just about every interest group along the way.

His first act as governor was an executive order ending Maine’s status as a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants. He also laughingly told the NAACP to “kiss my butt.”

Vic, it is this lack of trust inherent in the evil Republicans that has led us to the brink of disaster.  Why with just one look at him, you just know you can trust Harry Reid with your wallet.  Oh, and by the way, aren't they (Dems) pitching a 12 (not 10) year "plan" now (so the magic cuts will all appear in 2023, assuming there is a country left by then)?

One way I've offset any increases in my electric bill has been investing in power companies that pay a nice dividend.  They have actually done well for me over the years.  I do the same thing with cell phone carriers.  The dividend pays for my dang cell phone bill!

The drop has been seen in all polling data to boot (RVers and LVers). When matters of direct economic import are front and center Obama loses. That's not a good sign for his 2012 chances.

58 "So need to run that A/C at times even if it may not be too hot. " I went independent in the spring of 1994. I was not married and I lived alone, so I figured I'd save some money by not running the A/C that summer. The maybe $150 I expected to save was dwarfed by the cost and trouble of dealing with the mold/mildew fed by the humidity. My carpets were ruined, I had to run a wash nearly every day, and I had to perform what would normally be quarterly maintenance (detail cleaning in damp areas) on a weekly basis.

Another case of good timing.  For a while there you could get 5% or more pretty safely from utilities.  Alas, given the flight to safe divies lately, that's getting harder to find.  Though I think the big telecoms are still good payers, up in that 5% range.

Personally I can't say enough good things about pipeline MLPs.  Don't let the K1 forms scare you.  The tax advantaged status is, in my opinion, well worth it.  I used the top grade Turbo Tax software and it handled them very easily.  Got into mine at 7 - 8% yields.  That's another asset class that's been seeing a lot of interest lately so it's not as juicy as before, but you can still make money on them.

So let me get this straight. Even a week after Tucson, after it was absolutely clear that Palin and the right had nothing whatsoever to do with the Giffords shooting, Fallows was still saying that the very "purpose" of journalists is to connect dots and "see if there's a pattern there," and that "it is legitimate in our current climate to ask" if the rhetoric on the right had something to do with the shooting. But now that Rubin, VERY shortly after the Norway tragedy, doesn't just connect nearly invisible dots but actually cites stories quoting jidahists themselves as claiming jihadist "credit" for the terrorism, Fallows says it suddenly is not only a horrible sin for Rubin to take the jihadists' words themselves for real -- these aren't mere dots, they are what's known as solid circumstantial evidence -- but that is is a mistake bad enough that her employer should apologize to the world.

Shut up, that's why.

John Boehner just got played for a fool. Headlines are Harry Reid is offering bigger cuts than Boehner and no tax increases.

See my earlier post re the inherent integrity of Harry Reid.  I believe every word he utters.

/sarc off

Unfrotunately, I don't trust Boehner or Cantor either.

88 La Raza will continue to insist upon the return of the Paradise on Earth that is Alta California to Meyheeco, Land of Opportunity.

We should make a deal with them. We will give Mexico back all of Southern CA, from a line about level with San Francisco south to the current border.

They will pay back money from the Gadsten purchase at about 259 million in today's dollars plus another 250 million for reparations for the Mexican war which they started.

In addition, they will assume the debt of ALL the cities and counties in that part of the State. That would probably amount to several trillion.

89 there must be one person in Congress who is not seeking re-election who will tell the truth w/o political spin.

Nah, just give them San Francisco, Marin, and all of Los Angeles. The valley is okay, as is much of Eastern CA. Even the dopers in the North are mostly anti-government.

Fight between EE and Saxby Cambliss

But the fight is not important, look at the details of the Gang of Shitz tax increases. Not only did it increase actual taxes, but they introduced "new" taxes on people health insurance.

So not only is my health insurance getting shitty because of Obamacare, but they would start taxing the shit out of it.

RINO Chambliss can KISS.MY.ASS

People from GA, time to put his RINO ass on the street. Maybe he can get work washing car windows at downtown intersections in Atlanta.

President Barack Obama has canceled two fundraising appearances Monday

Not impressed. Why did he have 2 on a Monday in July anyway?

Ah yes, a reasonable rational electable compromised Southern RINO.  What could possibly go wrong?

97 --in which section of the Slimes is that article you cite about the person who endowed an Obama chair at Columbia? I only have the online version and it's difficult to search.

Thanks.

Whatever happened to the 'No Labels' group?

Or for that matter, the ever so clever Coffee Party?

They are hanging out with us. Its a great party..........the No Nothings brought Shrimp dip. The Reform Party is killing it on the karokee machine. The party of the deceased political parties rocks!

Red State has always been a 'agree with me because we're right and everyone else is stupid' site. Reading Erickson is tough because he really does come across as a know-it-all douchebag. Take his rants with a grain of salt.
