1 Looks like the debate and Perry announcement have sucked up most of the news. Tiger Woods is 14 strokes back after the first round in the last major of the year; his excuse this time was 'the sun got into my eyes'.

2 Sounds like Tiger's lost his mojo. Maybe he just needs to remarry and then cheat on her in order to get it back.

3 Tried to watch the debate. Flipped it on. Newt was bloviating about something. I couldn't take it. Flipped over instead to watch the Eagles beat up on the Ravens. Better.

6 Here's an interesting hypothetical: suppose Hillary primaried Obama. It's definitely within the realm of possibility. How do you think any of the Republican candidates would fare against her?

7 Also, it appears Mark Halperin has been allowed to return to Morning Joe. Unfortunately, he hasn't called anyone a dick yet, but I'm holding out hope that he'll go to his famous catch phrase soon.

They'd destroy her for the same reason Hillary nor any other Democrat will primary Obama. No white Democrat is willing to make the charge that America's second black, first Muslim president is incompetent. Whoever pulls off a primary win against him can say goodbye to the black vote, and with it any chance at victory in the general.

11 How do you think any of the Republican candidates would fare against her?

We demolish her.  People forget that she herself is a far-left whackjob and that her main qualification for the presidency in 2008 was that she slept next to a president (off and on) for eight years.  She also was only a one-term Senator, just like Barry.

Her only job experience now is as a terrible Secretary of State.  She can get hit with a lot of the foreign policy stupidity which Soetero has engaged in - Reset, Libya, etc.

Plus, she loses the black vote.  They may not vote GOP, but they stay home.

If those f---ing bastards charge that vehicle owner with a crime, I would love to serve on his jury.  Can you say "nullification?"

This is why if our side doesn't win, America will see exactly the same thing London is seeing.  Riots and disorder, with the law abiding made victims from coast to coast.  We should rejoice that the vehicle owner's aim was true, and he rid us of another piece of criminal scum.  We should NOT have him in police custody.

The 'women' vote didn't work out too well for her in 2008.  She might move a few idiots, but mostly the election will come down to a referendum on the incumbent.

Even if Soetero isn't the nominee, the Dems still have the stench of his failure attached to them.

43 GALLUP HAS DEMS +7 ON GENERIC CONGRESSIONAL?!

Really?

This would have me more worried if Gallup had not always been pretty much insane on this poll in the past.  Prior to 2010, Gallup would have Republicans +6, then next week Democrats +6, then next week Republicans +6.  12 point swings in a week.  Obviously impossible.

How does Obama get a 40% approval rating with America clamoring for more Democrats in Congress because they all want to pay higher taxes and have bigger government?  Disconnect anyone?

Posted by: Bill Mitchell at August 12, 2011 03:49 AM (uVlA4)

44 GALLUP HAS DEMS +7 ON GENERIC CONGRESSIONAL?!

The problem with that is that congressional elections are never generic-- they're specific, and they're localized.  Even a big margin on a national question is meaningless since everybody votes for their own Rep or Senator.

Name recognition.  Of the "Big Three" who ran last time, he's the only one running again.  Plus, the moderates have coalesced around him and the politicos have a hard-on for his fundraising.

Bear in mind though, he isn't like ten points ahead, Perry and Bachmann are both close to him.  Also, in early polling moderate candidates generally tend to do well - at about this time during the last campaign, Giuliani was the front runner and it looked like Romney was going to win Iowa.

The "draft Hillary" movement is as much a lost cause as her '08 campaign because of the vast right wing conspiracy that crossed party lines to vote for her in the primaries, no thanks to Rush Limbaugh.

Because most people are fucking clueless. They see this guy with the Sunday paper Sears underwear ad good looks who has had success in business - but they're not sure how or where- and don't pay a lick of attention to his policy stances or his tendencies to flip them depending on the political winds.

...and he's standing back and not getting into the fray and not actually making stances which he would have to flip on later

You should have saved your money instead of buying into that dumbass timeshare!

You should have driven that car for another 10 years instead of demanding a new model every two years!

You shouldn't have taken out a 2nd mortgage when you were struggling to pay the 1st mortgage!

You should have paid off your last vacation before adding your current one to your credit card!

You didn't need 50 pairs of fuc$ing shoes!

You should have said NO to your kids more often! No honey, I'm not giving you $600 to join the ski club just because all your friends are joining.  We can't afford it!

Yep, Romney would simply replace Obama.

Pathetic, voters addicted to big spenders who promise anything for support.

Romney doesn't deserve to be Potus any more than Hillary does.

Just another damned Ivy Beleaguering corporate raiding blood sucker with a smiling mask with an economic record that put Massachusetts in the hole despite existing data from other states (Tennessee) proving that state mandated tax funded universal health care is a big fail in delivery of services and in managing the skyrocketing costs of medical treatment. Being for TARP as Romney's fortune depends upon the promotion of the globalist finance industry that owns him, Romney failed to offer public opinion, let alone wise and experienced advice, prior to the TARP vote when McCain killed the GOP potus campaign (calling death "suspension" as he did doesn't change the result).

At a point when ANYONE but Obama will win the presidency, choose the candidate whose entire record and platform addresses means towards constructionist constitutional governance rather than more "compassionate" socialism.

110 Posted by: GnuBreed at August 12, 2011 08:46 AM (ENKCw) Even with one set of parents per person, it can get tricky. My dad died a long time ago so its just my mom and my stepdad (who is not in good health so, realistically I don't expect him to be around long enough for me to need to take him in). Hubby only has his mom and dad. Problem is, my sibling is military and moves around a lot so he probably can't do much to help out. And hubby's two siblings can barely take care of themselves and their own families, so it will be up to us to care of his parents. We're already making provisions to take all of them in when the time comes- none of our parents will ever be in a nursing home so long as I can help it. Luckily my folks have done a lot of preparing for retirement so between that and the fact that they're a decade younger than my in-laws, I'm hoping we've got a goodly amount of time to get ready for all of it.

Actually, it'll probably be one kid taking in like fifteen different people.  Being polygamous sucks at generating children.  It takes two people to produce one baby, so if a woman has four kids with four different men, it took five people to create four more.  There's still a giant family, but the new generation is smaller than the old one was.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not an anti-war dove.  I'm a hawk in the Curtis-LeMay-nuke-'em-'til-they-glow school of warfare. In all seriousness I believe we should have blown the mountaintop off with a tactical nuclear bomb when we were chasing Osama bin Laden at Tora Bora in 2001.

The Navy SEALs did not die for our freedom.  They died because they have a clueless commander-in-chief who, upon visiting a military base last year, told the troops, "You guys make a great photo-op."

Sorta but not really. For example, no one wants to go to bed with McCain, Bob Dole, or Mike Dukakis. Someone might want to go to bed with say Bill Clinton, George HW Bush, or W. No one is jumping in the sack with Pawlenty, Mitch Daniels, Ron Paul, or Newt. However, is it feasible to get it on with Mitt Romney and definately Rick Perry.

I'm still convinced that Obama fulfilled some sexual fantasy of liberal women who wanted a nice safe articulate "clean" (per Biden) black guy to have sex with.

Ron Paul is a loon, but the economy is by far the dominant issue now and in the near future.  It's quite literally the hill on which this country may die on.  Ron Paul may be the best person for the job, in that respect.  He's a disaster when it comes to foreign policy, but maybe if he has a good VP who is experienced in such areas his potential damage could be mitigated.

Until recently I would have laughed at the idea of actually voting for Ron Paul.  But really, who else would have the balls to cut entitlement spending and maybe even whole agencies?  I don't think any of the other candidates would.  I still don't think he's even close to being the best candidate, the fact that he wouldn't have killed OBL makes him hard for me to like.  But I wouldn't be completely bummed if he did somehow get the nomination.

That the US shouldn't be funding either Israel or the Muslim Brotherhood "Arab Spring"? That Israel can hold its own against the Palestinians? Given non-interventionism as first resort shouldn't seem novel, let alone radical unless you've completely sold out to neoconservatism taunting the Tea Party movement as dead Hobbits.

That we're buying winning the hearts and minds of our enemies in the latest war to end all wars?

That we can expect our Military to remain in Afghanistan forever, given "at least occupying for 30-100 years".

That we can continue spending more than taxes fund without raising taxes, like our dearly beloved Reagan, and more so by GWBush, providing Obama "inherited precedence".

That the authoritarian federal government is what you either want, need or "deserve" more of rather than less.

Look again at which policies are shit.

183 Posted by: maverick muse at August 12, 2011 09:44 AM (lpWVn)

Okay... let's take these on, shall we?

We live in a global economy.  Our economic interests are directly tied to our other national interests- a strong economy is needed to be able to build the largest aircraft carrier in the world, for instance.  We need lots of money to build a strong military.  Given that Fortress America is not going to happen- and would be unworkable even if we tried, we have to be involved with other nations at a variety of levels.

Now, I agree that most foreign aid could and should be cut.  We don't need to be sending "aid" to China, or Syria, or Egypt, or any number of other places that hate us.  Israel, however, is another matter.  Israel is an ally, constantly under threat from all of its neighbors.  Money sent there is as much a check against those same neighbors (see also: places that hate us) as it is a benefit to Israel.

Further, while I don't give one, let alone two, craps about "hearts and minds" in the middle east, I also admit there are people there who want to kill us.  If we weren't there killing them, they'd be here planning how to kill us.  I like the current paradigm much better, thankyouverymuch.

Raising taxes does not raise revenues.  So your third point is complete BS.  As you already know.  There are certain things the government should do, and certain things it shouldn't.  Get rid of the things it shouldn't do (or scale them back, at least) and you won't have to cry your crocodile tears over spending so much on the military.

Finally, to claim pointing out that Ron! Paul! is an idiot in every non-fiscal specific policy I've ever heard is hardly supporting an "authoritarian federal government."

Ron Paul is as much a pork-barrel spender as the rest of his generation.  He's mostly just Fortress America/Anti Israel (if not Anti-Semitic, and I've heard comments of his that make me wonder)/Anti-Fed.  One of those three policies is one I support.

185 How about, "I wouldn't violate Pakistan's sovereignty to kill OBL?"  Cause that's completely indefensible.

1. "I wouldn't violate US sovereignty to assassinate a politician."

2. OBL died of terminal illness years ago.

3. It takes a tinfoiled brain to believe the ever mutating US official story (or any portion beyond the single fact that no one knew the targeted victims of that raid) on the supposedly recent death of OBL.

Btw, the Pakistani neighborhood witnesses said that the men from the doomed raiding helicopter you referenced were Pashtun forces, not US Navy Seals. The so called "compound" photographs since prove it wasn't anything more than a gated home. And when the copter exploded killing all within it, the entire neighborhood of 200 ran through the open gates of the raided house, finding all dead victims therein as well. The neighbors who watched from their rooftops are as credible (if not more so) than Obama or the Obama administration.

I gather Pawlenty went after Bachmann.  I guess he's auditioning for the attack dog running mate role.  I really hope Perry doesn't pick him.  I don't like that jackhole.

Romney's strategy of appearing presidential without getting into a lot of substance seems to be working against a weak crowd, but will fail against Perry.  I gather his health care mandate and marriage answers were particularly uninspired.

Galveston's bridge isn't to no where. Whatever federal tax funds garnered from Texas prior to being appropriated through designated congressional procedure to Ron Paul's expansive, rural district don't make him porky pig. As an illustration, rather than to no where, Galveston's bridge is a functional Gulf causeway to the Island.

Further, while I don't give one, let alone two, craps about "hearts and minds" in the middle east, I also admit there are people there who want to kill us.  If we weren't there killing them, they'd be here planning how to kill us.  I like the current paradigm much better, thankyouverymuch.

And a lot of patriotic Americans liked the Domino Theory paradigm in Vietnam much better like LBJ, despite accurate advice to the contrary. It's the neoconservative lament that they were wrong all along expressed by Kristol that's a bitter pill. Ron Paul stipulated cutting military spending  but not defense spending. To say there's no difference is what's blind.

You ignored my statement being that government can not spend more than it brings in without further debt. Btw, Ron Paul didn't even argue to cut spending, but to FREEZE spending. None of the other potus candidates have that platform agenda.

Falling back on the racist card does not apply.

The "Ron Paul is insane because Paultard" Alinsky stance is what fails the test of logic.

I'd have rather had President Fred Thompson. But that wasn't in the cards. As far as our present predicaments are concerned, none of the PC candidates are going to change a damned thing in favor of constitutional governance against the tide of authoritarianism.
