Ron Paul blasts new super committee
Well well well, one wonders about this crap. This new committee not limited to budget matters? I swear I wish he was less of a fruit cake on other matters because his view on the domestic agenda is straight on. Wish there was some way we could take his domestic agenda and morph it on to Perry. But there you go, Bachmann is close, which is why she is at the top of my short list right now.

This is a prime example of what we are seeing in the MFM and hearing on F&F this morning
This article on the “budget deal” from the Hill shows what we face in the MFM. Nearly every paragraph in it, beginning with the headline title is a lie.
For House GOP, victory comes at a priceThe House GOP did not get any kind of a victory.
The agreement signed on Tuesday satisfied two of the GOPÂ’s longstanding demands: that spending cuts exceed the increase in the debt limit, and that taxes do not go up
No what “we” got was a promise to cut spending with some immediate small cuts in the rate of increase. Yes, by congressional calculus the first derivative of the spending curve has decreased, therefore it is a cut.
Gretchen interviewed the head of Tea Party Nation this morning about the apparent “Tea Party victory”. (she played a clip of Palin saying that) The head of TPN said it was disaster and then iterated all kinds of stuff like the above as to why it was bad. He said that TPN wanted noting to do with this “deal” because when it showed itself later to be a disaster they didn’t want the blame.
This is not just a disaster for tea party members and the public. This is a demonstration of how the Republican Party can still lose in 2012 by alienating its base. Be careful GOP “leadership”. You are in danger of creating a 3rd party and becoming irrelevant. Perhaps this is what the MFM and Obama wants.

Joe Nocera is a dolt.
Inflicting more pain on their countrymen doesnÂ’t much bother the Tea Party Republicans, as theyÂ’ve repeatedly proved. What is astonishing is that both the president and House speaker are claiming that the deal will help the economy. Do they really expect us to buy that? WeÂ’ve all heard what happened in 1937 when Franklin Roosevelt, believing the Depression was over, tried to rein in federal spending. Cutting spending spiraled the country right back into the Great Depression, where it stayed until the arrival of the stimulus package known as World War II. ThatÂ’s the path weÂ’re now on. Our enemies could not have designed a better plan to weaken the American economy than this debt-ceiling deal.

That is a key question. What are the powers of this committee? Ron Paul thinks they are huge because the language is too lose.
Conservative members of both houses were originally concerned that it would be used as a means to bypass their opposition. Well, we have already seen that born out in the Senate when McConnell said nobody would be on the committee who voted against the "deal".
The Dems will nominate hard line commies so we will start out right off the bat with 50% "nothing but tax increases" on the committee. McConnell will nominate 3 RINOs. After that it doesn't matter what crying Boner does.
The committee will pass recommendations on a simple majority vote. All it takes is the 6 commies and one RINO. After that it goes to a vote in congress.
And it can not be filibustered in the Senate

LOL. But imagine the fights over who was really responsible for the fall of man... Plus Adam was at a serious disadvantage learning all that stuff about women for himself. For example, he had no precedent to tell him what to say when Eve asked whether her fig leaf made her look fat. And then when the PMS came to be, that had to be a heckuva shock. Doubtless there were all manner of horrible, rude surprises for both.

In spite of what politicians on both sides are saying, this agreement does not cut any spending over 10 years. In fact, it increases discretionary spending by $830 billion.
I voted against this agreement because it does nothing to address the real drivers of our debt. It eliminates no program, consolidates no duplicative programs, cuts no tax earmarks and reforms no entitlement program. The specter of default or a credit downgrade will still hang over our economy after this deal becomes law.
I'm with him.

A little doom before Monty:
As Bloomberg summarizes, U.S. planned firings up 59% Y/y in July to 66,414, led by pharma, retail; largest number in 16 months. The number includes Merck’s plan to cut ~13k jobs. This 3rd consecutive increase; “seems to provide additional evidence” recovery has stalled.

Pennsylvanians on public assistance now have a new 'civil right' -- free cell phones. Meanwhile, the rest of us get to pay higher cell bills as a result.
Recently, a federal government program called the Universal Service Fund came to the Keystone State and some residents are thrilled because it means they can enjoy 250 minutes a month and a handset for free, just because they don't have the money to pay for it.
When I was in college and married, we were too poor to have a phone. Oh, and we both worked while I was in school. Surely there is someone I can sue for our horrific treatment back then.

Great. Just f-ing great. One more way to incentivize people to remain on the dole. Idiots.
This stuf makes me crazy with anger. It's not just the expense - it's the principle. People who work hard at low paying jobs, who get by on their own in humble circumstances and are no burden on the rest of us, live without this stuff or else make sacrifices to get it. But layabouts get the phones and service for free. What utter injustice.
If this were something where it was set up such that potential employers could call the phone, but you couldn't use it for other private calls, I could see it as having some benefit to the taxpayer. Part of a back-to-work program. But we all know that's not what this is for. Nor is it for emergencies. Just more bread and circuses for the mob.

Paul Ryan is exactly right when he says that we have to fix our health care problem if we want to fix our debt problem.
The working / middle class is getting squeezed to death by the cost of food, gas, energy, and health care.
Our insane health care payment system combines the ruthlessness of the market with the inefficiency / incompetence of government. It drives up government spending, drives down wages, and creates economic insecurity for the vast majority of working Americans.
We are in such a weird place as a country. I can cite countless examples, just among friends and acquaintances, of people who are far better off on government assistance (Medicaid, food stamps, bridge cards, etc.) than they are trying to eke out a living in the work world.
I would very much appreciate a presidential candidate who could articulate a plan to change the social contract to give Americans a "better deal", much in the way that Paul Ryan has.
I respect Ryan very much for actually stepping into the arena and putting ideas on the table. I hope that the Republican party puts forth a candidate who is smart, articulate, and forward-thinking. I would much rather vote FOR somebody than simply AGAINST Obama.

They can vote to round up all the members of an ethnicity or religion and throw them in prison, they can steal land from anyone at their whim. They can force any minority into slavery status. Democracy is Two Wolves and a Sheep voting on what's for dinner.
As one founder put it, "I'd rather have one King Ten Thousand Miles away, then Ten Thousand Kings one mile away."
Greek Democracy (where it originated) only lasted 55 years before it was bankrupt and descended into anarchy. The Monarchy was restored.
Another Founder wrote "There has not been a Democracy in history that did not commit suicide. "
You should really re-think your notions of "Democracy" in light of the reality of the misery created as a result of it.

Job growth stalls, layoffs surge
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The jobs recovery slowed for a third month in a row, according to two reports out Wednesday.
....
Meanwhile, a separate report showed more firms are opting to downsize, rather than add to their payrolls.
The number of planned job cuts surged to a 16-month high in July -- rising 60% in July to 66,414 from June's 41,432, according to outplacement consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
The firm characterized it as a "sudden and unexpected burst" in downsizing.

The whole point of a Super Committee was to bypass the TEArorrists that might rock the gravy boat. The language governing the authority of the Super Committee is loose enough to drive a semi though and was deliberately written that way. Look at how the clear concise understandable language of the Constitution has been perverted over the years and tell me that you think these treasonous scumbag elites can't (and won't) screw us again and again re revenue enhancements and shared sacrifice. There will be at least two RINO elite Senators on the committee (FOM-Friends of Mitch) so the third pick doesn't signify.
As an aside, one of the recurring oxymoronic phrases I think should be banned from public discourse is "If the Republicans were smart...".
I would be overjoyed if the Republicans were stupid but HONEST!
The news gets more depressing every day/hour, and I have reached the point where there is important stuff I need to read up on, like the REASON article, but I can't afford to start drinking this early in the day so I don't even click the link. I don't see how we can organize and field a third party in time to keep this country from total destruction, but more and more it seems like the only viable solution.

Most Americans with a lick of common sense have been calling for the Israeli method long before TSA wasted billions on naked body scanners. Is it too much to ask for government to get just one damn thing right?
Rest assured the government won't get this right either.
The Israeli method works because (a) they don't give a shit if you don't make your plane because you didn't get there early enough and (b) they have a tiny fraction of the passenger volume that the U.S. has.
Israel sees, I believe, only about 40% of what the U.S. sees on any given day. They can afford to do the two hour interview thing.

Actually that quote came from Boston reverend Dr. Mather Byles in 1770 delivering a sermon for one of the people killed at the Boston Massacre.
He was a crown loyalist.

Scholars differ, but Democracy in Athens lasted from about 508 BC to 322 BC, when it was suppressed by the Macedonian kings.
They can vote to round up all the members of an ethnicity or religion and throw them in prison, they can steal land from anyone at their whim. They can force any minority into slavery status.
The Roman Republic did ever single thing you list, and so have Monarchies throughout history. Why do people react so violently to the notion of Democracy?
My guess is probably that ultimately, humanity despises itself. We would much rather surrender our own freedom just to make sure those other bastards don't get it, and ceding power to an elite

My understanding of what this "popular vote" thing would do is that the State would assign their electors to the winner of the popular vote instead of the winner of that State's popular vote.
If that is the way it would work then a State like CA would then be open to the Republicans which it NEVER is now.
I am not worried about it though in any case. It would last about as long as it took someone to take it to court.

There is a way to revert to FF 3.6 but I don't have a link for you. It can be done though. I'm still using 3.6 and will do so until it bugs out or 5.0 starts getting good reviews.
Cuz I'm not using IE or Chrome. Screw Google especially.

There has been speculation for days as to whether the President was going to make it to his own fundraising 50th birthday party - a plush affair at a $40,000 a night ballroom in Chicago.
And it seems the small matter of a multi-trillion dollar debt crisis was not going to stop the President pulling out all the stops.
Helicopters could be heard over the Chicago lakefront as authorities performed security drills in preparation for the Mr Obama's visit.
The celebrity-studded event, which will be held at the exclusive Aragon Ballroom tomorrow - the day before President Obama's birthday
And every time the son of a bitch comes to town he shuts down the expressways and major streets during rush hour traffic because the peasants must make way for the king to get his ass kissed by the brainless wealthy donors

@ 111--think I may have found that link, what pisses me most is that I'm old enough to remember when "new and improved" meant just that, not some obfuscatory bullshit as is so prevalent today.

I completely uninstalled FF4.x (used Zsoft), and found a prior versions site somewhere on Mozilla and then installed FF3.8.16. Not quite a clean install but close.

Well I'm on top of things this morning! Happy anniversary, Tami and Mr. Tami!
Ours is tomorrow. 27 years.
I made reservations at a nice place that has a really romantic patio. I was trying to decide if I should have flowers delivered to the table so it seemed more special, but I don't know if that's too girly for my husband. So I was trying to think of what the equivalent gift for a man would be. I'm stumped.

The Roman's were Pagan, and had no qualms about oppressing and murdering people. The Romans' also remained a Republic for only part of their existence.
The Fact that the Developed parts of the world initially sprang from the Christianized regions is no accident in my mind. As Barbaric and violent as Nations have been under Christianity, (or a semblance thereof) they were worse under Paganism and Atheism.
