Top Dem uses Salmonella outbreak to hammer GOP over food-safety cuts

A leading House Democrat is citing a recent and deadly Salmonella outbreak to hammer Republicans for slashing food-safety funding.

 I would like to hear the Republicans answer back to these kinds of epic stupid allegations.  But they seldom do. Note that I donÂ’t even mention the less than useless MFM. Nowhere do they even make an attempt to ask the stupid scrunt here how lack of funding contributed to the latest outbreak.

 

The fact of the matter is that all these stupid regulations AND the funding for the FDA have absolutely nothing to do with preventing these kinds of outbreaks. I have beat this drum literally to death but the word really needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

THE ONLY THING FEDERAL REGULATIONS DO IS MAKE HONEST BUSINESS MORE COSTLY AND BUILD EMPIRES FOR BUREAUCRATS.

You see bureaucrats like air conditioned office jobs sitting at a desk moving a piece of paper from basket A to Basket B. So an organization like the FDA has some lower level lackeys who graduate from college with degrees related to food safety in some lose way. These people fresh out of school develop regulations for the industry. These regulations may help in some cases, but mostly they donÂ’t.

But even if the regulations were perfect they do not prevent events like this. You see what the FDA does is create reams of required paperwork that the industry must fill out and report on their “compliance” with the regulations. A plant will create a department of “compliance” specialists who develop workplace rules to assure that the regulations are followed. Then they fill out the required paper and file it, while submitting required reports. The honest plants will do their utmost to comply with the regulations, at the same time they try to make sure that they also have rules to prevent these events. Rues that work written by people with knowledge and experience.

Occasionally an auditor will come to the plant. They may spend an hour touring the plant and then they will spend numerous hours reviewing the paperwork. The required submitted paperwork is also audited meticulously.  The plant and its parent company is judged almost exclusively on how well it completes its paper.

And then along comes events like this. Investigation will almost always reveal that some plant rule and some regulatory rule were violated.  In some cases it is found that they are routinely violated with active knowledge of management. IOW the plant and its management flaunt the law, but are great at filling out paper. But, oh ho scream the “regulators” (both in and out of congress) we new more regulations to halt this. Oh ho screams the agency we need more funding and more people.  So new food safety regulations are developed and more funding is granted and life goes on.

So you say sure Vic, you just hate regulations because you hate government and are a Libertarian anarchist. But folks, you need to look no further than the last event just like this.  The peanut butter plant in GA. It happened there just like I said above. Guess what happened. We go some tough new food safety rules designed to run the small family farm out of business and reduce competition for giants like Cargill and Monsanto. (note that farms had zero to do with the peanut butter event). But thanks to a Democrat Controlled congress and a RINO SOB willing to stab the Republicans in the back during the infamous lame duck session, we got some more useless regulations.

And here we are again. We would be better off to allow the industry to establish an independent food safety program and become self-policing with government whistle-blower protections for the inspectors. It would also be a LOT cheaper.

It has to be above 21% now. Whether the shit-weasels will admit it or not we are in Great Depression 2.0. Remember this old rule of thumb back from the old “kidnapped/missing children” myths of old. How many of you actually know someone who has been laid off during this downturn. (That was the question that people said should be asked when ax grinders gave ridiculous numbers for missing children).

Well, in the case of people being laid off, I would say it would be damned near impossible to find someone who didnÂ’t know anyone who had been laid off.

Don't expect stocks to rebound much today; they are falling already in Europe

Oh and according to the MFM this morning in a uniform manner, the stock market plunge yesterday was solely due to the European problems.

And when asked about the stock Markey today on F&F Stuart Varney said it depended on the jobs numbers to be released. When are the media buffoons going to let regular people know the “market” adjusted for those phony jobs numbers long ago.  By the time any official announcement is made the people who run these institutional investors have already known about it for a long time.

 Also something to look for today, a resurge in gold.

Conventional wisdom holds that the congressional super-committee established by the debt-ceiling deal to propose further deficit reduction will go nowhere. IÂ’m not so sure.

The only “conventional wisdom” I have heard that from is CK. Most of us think it was a damn sell-out and we will get tax hikes and defense cuts. Of course good old CK is jumping on the “Tax reform” bandwagon here too. Forget about it CK, with the gang of 12, 6 commies and an undecided number of RINOs, “reform” means increase.

CK, its time for you to take a sabbatical and get of of DC for about a year. Attend some of those hated Tea Party rallies and frigging talk to some real people for a change.

68 Couldn't sleep last night, so I watched Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible, Part II instead. Magnificent film! If you can, watch the DVD from the Criterion Collection (warning - it's pricey). It includes a lecture by a Uni. of Chicago professor on all the symbolism - from traditional Christian to Freud - worked into the metaphorical imagery employed throughout. It's odd that a movie made during the very heyday of stone-cold Stalinism is in fact anti-Stalinist, Ivan himself clearly meant to represent Uncle Joe. But perhaps the best thing I can say about the movie is this: it's perhaps the only historical costume drama I've seen that doesn't feel like a costume drama. After the movie is over, you feel like "you were there." Yes, Ivan WAS "terrible," but he was also a complex human being and not just a caricature. The movie allows you to see his dark side, yet empathize with him. Which may be why Stalin allowed it to exist.

Search for a local coin show and go there. Generally you can find some bargains there and most dealers are willing to haggle a bit. I can usually get 10% off if I spend a couple hundred dollars or so.   Half dollar mining is pretty much over these days, very very few silver halves left in the system.

Don't anyone kid yourself on the unemployment figures, and don't let the Obama administration spin you.   The key sentence in the Bureau of Labor Statistics release this morning is this one:  "The civilian labor force participation rate edged down in July to 63.9 percent."   According to the actual BLS data, the civilian labor force was actually down 193,000 people and the number of employed was actually down 38,000.   There were 156,000 fewer unemployed because fewer people were counted as part of the labor force to begin with.  

In other words, we could get unemployment down to 0% if everyone just stopped working and started, oh, hunting and gathering for food.

100% correct. Salmonella is killed with proper cooking. Cross contamination can occur, but that just means that whoever is cooking it hasn't practiced proper hygienic technique.

There are some bacteria that produce a heat resistant toxin that is not destroyed by cooking, but salmonella isn't one of them. I think Staphylococcus is the main culprit for that kind of food-borne illness.

AH is, IMO, definitely the best of the sidekick ADAs.  Elizabeth Rohm, sweet God in heaven, was awful.  She had about as much onscreen charisma as a cardboard cutout of Henry Kissinger.  And also the silliest send-off in L&O history.

What I do know  is that most people are absolutely clueless to these assaults as the media is not reporting them on a larger scale even though it's a nationwide trend at this point. I was talking to a liberal douche at work awhile back and we were talking about police layoffs in the . I said, 'yeah it's a real good idea until flash mobs come to our streets'.

They can file a suit, it will make big news, and then be quietly dismissed later. Twitter (a common carrier) is no more liable than suing the cell phone company for a crime planned over the phone.
