Of course, this isn't Mitt's fault. Anything bad that happens from RomneyCare is the fault of the state legislature. Or Deval Patrick did it after poor Mitt left the state. But it's still his banner accomplishment. Which he would never force on the other states. That's just crazy talk. He's clearly the smartest candidate.

The bill, now law, allows citizens to use deadly force to defend themselves in public places. Previously, that right was restricted to one's home.
Done with an override of the Governor's veto, too. Wtg NH!

So it turns out, the Obama Administration was warned that long-term insurance was un-sustainable, and they spewed that lie anyway...
Why do they keep ignoring warnings?
Hey, this Gunrunner thing might really blow up in our faces, sir.
O: Don't worry about it, I'm Obama.
You know, they really WON'T be able to keep their insurance, Mr. President.
O: Whatever, I'll tell them they will. That'll change everything.
Um, Mr. President, Solyndra really isn't the hill you want to die on.
O: Who said anything about dying? I'm the lightworker, here. Let me work some light.
It's incredible... Such hubris.

Chicago Rules (Washington DC updates):
1. If the Precedent does it, it is not illegal.
2. If DoJ does enough of it, it is impossible to prosecute.
3. If you criticize the Precedent, you are RAACIST!
4. There is no linkage between campaign contributions and government actions.

Maybe, just maybe, we are seeing the end of the beginning of the downfall of the SCOAMF.
Ya think?
Sorry to say, I'm thinking too many people are still wearing their liberal blinders and will rush to support/make excuses for Osama Obama at every opportunity.
Note how the stuttering clusterf*** of a miserable failure's new tattletale website was initially scorned even by the WaPoo. They've walked it back, and now say "conservatives" are ridiculing the ridiculous AttackWatch. The NY Slimes is burying any news that reflects badly on the Traitor-in-Chief.
Logically, Obama should be calling the networks to reserve airtime for his resignation speech. But he isn't. The arrogant prick is out shilling for his new economy-busting "plan" and people still "love" him.
I'm not saying it's hopeless, but if we want to start disinfecting D.C. next year, we have to ratchet up the pressure now, and increase it. When Obama and the members of his regime slink out of town in January, '13, we can throw the biggest party this country has ever known.
And we should. But not before.

That's glorious - it's exactly as it should be. Nice to see something go right somewhere. Every state should have such laws, and give them teeth with open carry. I think it goes to show that, among regular folk, the decline of civilization is pretty apparent. People are realizing that things spin a little further out of control each day, get a little worse each day, and eventually they might end up having to look after themselves.

California, a model for healthcare reform, is seeking to impose some of the toughest limits on government-subsidized coverage. If approved, the limits could herald deep Medicaid cuts nationwide.
It seems they want to impose copays on Medicaid patients....Five whole dollars. Oh the humanity.

Wow. Which suggests there were zero co-pays before. No wonder the waiting rooms are always flooded. This is actually a great thing. It's not that the 5 dollar fees will pay for anything substantial, but once you start demanding that the welfare people pay cash money, which might otherwise be spent on cigs, to pay for a doc to tell them that nothing can be done about their kid's runny nose, maybe then you can clear some space for people with actual problems with some hope of effecive treatment.
It's amazing how so many pig-ignorant "mothers" haven't the slightest clue about what to do when Jr. gets a sniffle, or else use the doctor's waiting room as a social club to chat with other similarly bored, husbandless, unemployed ladies.

It is good if Trump was ever seriously (I know, it's Trump) considering a third party run. I've read online (again, its on the interweb) that he had been mentioned as both possibly doing a third party run and/or being the main bankroller of a Palin third party run. It would remove him from both rumors. And since Palin is content to be a cheerleader and not a player, it would end the third party specter from 2012.
Unless Ron Paul and Alex Jones make a bid. The Tinfoil Hat Party nominees.

Morning, folks. I'm enjoying a visit from my mom.
From Legal Insurrection:
>>Johnston was giving his introductory lecture to Social Sciences 1140: “Self, Culture and Society,” when he explained to the nearly 500 students that the course was going to focus on texts, not opinions, and despite what they may have heard elsewhere, everyone is not entitled to their opinion.
>>“All Jews should be sterilized” would be an example of an unacceptable and dangerous opinion, Johnston told the students.
>>He didnÂ’t notice Sarah Grunfeld storm out. Grunfeld, a 22-year-old in her final year at York, understood JohnstonÂ’s example to be his personal opinion.
>>She contacted Oriyah Barzilay, the president of Hasbara at York — an Israel advocacy group on campus — who then sent a press release to media and other Jewish community groups calling for Johnston to be fired.
The source I got the link from already made the point that “some students simply do not have the basic powers of concentration and comprehension required for college work–not to mention, of course, that there are way too many rewards to hypersensitivity and public offense taking.”

well I've drifted a bit since '97....
El Paso, Aberdeen MD, Myrtle beach SC, Leesville LA, Columbia SC, here at Indy Metro IN.....
I lost touch with the goings on in Ohio in Texas and Louisiana and am in awe at how devestated the state got financially, but what can you do?
The SW Ohio GOP empowering the Cleveland gang was stupid and a waste, it allowed the donks to finish off Ohio's competitiveness. I sorta knew the writing was on the wall when the state allowed the tobacco industry money to be put in the general fund and then found "dire needs" to grow the budget by to meet the "excess money in the coffers". It is telling that no GOPer runs ramming that idiocy down the State Legislature's throat.
Ohio could have retired their bond issue with it or established a multi-billion dollar rainy day fund through capitalizing a bond issue for that purpose, instead I got to hear of the millions in taxpayer money that went to nail salons. When the boom bust of course we started running deficits for such genius things as 2.14 million to "aid and establish wineries"......
yeah just what the state should be involved in....

Whatever you say tiger, I saw a race where the HILLARY! version of Op Chaos and the GOP establishment ran with McCain to say "it's my turn".
There were a multitude of threads and posts here about it you might recall?
In Louisiana McCain's gaining the nom through Huckadoodle's theatrics was greeted with a nice long fart.
John "enthusiasm magnifier" McCain....

To paraphrase Voltaire, if Huckabee had not existed, Mitt would have invented him.
Huckabee was on nobody's radar in 2007. He had no money, no organization. He was running against Mitt Romney, the promised one, who spent millions in Iowa and had a massive top-down organization. Huckabee beat him and rocketed to the national stage while Mitt's people were screaming about anti-mormon floating crosses.
Huckabee only became a contender because Mitt was such a poor candidate.

I can't disagree that Mitt is less than leg-tingle inspiring. Of course he faced Albino Barry the Felony Pardoner, Juan Queeg Captain of the USS Reacharound Across the Aisle, RON PAULLLL!!!1111, a wax figure of Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani's shadow, and Alan keyes so it is not like this was the most stunning field ever at all. Of the aforementioned from a PURITY ELEVENTY !!!!!11111 I probably preferred Fred and Keyes.
Both lacked executive track records and experience, I am never in love with having candidates who only have been legislators.
I prefer Perry personally, but it seems the electorate prefers Romney over Barack and is nervous about Perry v barack. There is some shading of this going on from the far more hostile to Perry media bent. Doesn't feel like the wild run to McCain the newsies were engaged in though.

Well, he met with Palin a while back (remember they had some sort of photo op in a restaurant or something?), so I don't think it means anything in particular. Perhaps it's a fundraising thing or merely Perry trying to inure himself to Trump so the Donald doesn't actively knee cap him.

I want to win next fall.
---
That's just the really vocal loyalists. I doubt they represent more than 10-20% of Bachmann's (or Palin's) support. Perry is much more of a threat to their candidates (or non-candidates) than Romney is because everyone knows Mitt is the one who has earned the "establishment squish" labels. So they figure they can defeat him when the field narrows by appealing to base issue voters.
That's also why a lot of the buzz they're putting out there now has to do with guilt by association (oh noes, Trump might endorse Perry!) or even claiming that Perry is the establishment candidate (which I think is part of this stupid "crony capitalism" stuff). Hell, I even read yesterday a really weak-sauce attempt to imply that Mrs. Perry's $60k/yr non-profit fundraising job had to be an example of nefarious doings by Perry. Ridiculous.
The folks for whom victory over Obama is the most important thing and who are making their decisions based on issues, not on personality cults, are more likely to go to Perry than Romney should the field narrow to, say, Bachmann, Romney, and Perry.
And let's face it, if the loyalists who are screaming so loudly against Perry decide to campaign against him (should he win the primary), they will basically be conducting a kamikaze operation, because there's no way in god's green earth they will ever have a voice in the GOP after that. They'll be about as relevant as the Paulbots.
So go head, make my day.

I'm curious on what you're basing this. A couple of polls over the past week or so?
Perry jumped ahead of Mitt almost immediately and Mitt has been running for years now. Mitt is rebounding - slightly - but I don't see a big shift back to him. And, Bachmann is going to have to drop out after her latest stunt. If Palin gets in, she'll pick up some of those supporters, but the rest... well, where will they go? Romney? Gingrich? or Perry?
Posted by: Y-not at September 15, 2011 05:45 AM (5H6zj)
I enjoyed your 155 and 156. I think Palin is effectively a nonfactor, but could see bachmann playing the Huckadoodle spoiler role if the establishment wants to make it harder for Perry. I need to contact the RNC and see if I can get the lowdown on what they are looking for or what their pollling says about electability if I resume the flow of the donations I had been giving SARAH!Pac.
Bachmann's antics and Palin's little display debate night inspired me to cut ties with SarahPac.

I think we have the Mitt folks trying to beat the "Perry is not electable" drum on the one side and the Bachmann/Palin folks beating the "Perry is a crooked professional/establishment politician" on the other side. In other words, Perry is getting it from both directions right now, which I guess kind of makes sense. He's moved from exciting newcomer to the front-runner to beat status. I bet this is about as bad as it will be for Perry. If he weathers it, it seems to me then he will start really solidifying his support.
Bachmann overplayed the "crooked politician" hand, imho, which I think will mean two things: she'll be dropping out soon (her polling numbers are really bad now) and Palin's (and others') use of that line of attack will be less effective. Also, let's face it, a couple more days or weeks talking about Gardasil and even the most tuned-out GOP primary voter is going to say "WTF? Why are we talking about a vaccine initiative from four years that didn't even happen when I am out of work?" Also, I do think Bachmann's (and others') vaccine attack has the side-benefit of making Perry look pro-science, which is certainly a good thing.
They can beat on this stuff all they want, but Perry is the one with the best case to make in the general about jobs and economic growth. Even accounting for whatever good Romney accomplished in MA, that was a different economic climate and since then he's done nothing. I always thought it was a mistake for Romney to rest on his laurels these past three years and I think I was right.
Posted by: Y-not at September 15, 2011 06:03 AM (5H6zj)
Here's a nice NRO piece summarizing Perry's recent swing through Virginia. He sounds like he's doing great.
I have to say, irrespective of the debate performances, everything I've read about Perry's working of the crowds has been positive. The guy sounds like he has a tremendous amount of charisma. I can't wait until he comes to Utah... I hope he comes to Utah.
I am going to give to Perry, not the RNC, btw. I can't spare that much right now, but I want to send something. I hope that will get me on a volunteer list.
I am surrounded by Romney supporters - with some really wacky Paulbots scattered in here and there. It's a little frustrating. The folks I talk with are really not that excited about Romney (they're disappointed in his failure to really renounce Masscare), but he's kind of the default candidate here in Utah. I actually think Perry could grab some support here if he tried. There are a lot of folks (the majority, I think) who are really disenchanted by the hard-core tea partiers (and libertarians), but who are solid conservatives that find Romney to be too liberal. Those could be Perry supporters if he made a play for them.
Posted by: Y-not at September 15, 2011 06:12 AM (5H6zj)
I may swing my support to Perry. My only fear about Perry is that he WILL play weaker in New England than Mitt in all likelihood. Perry will do more things I like, but arguably Mitt has the potential for the bigger mandate. I think perry will win handily, but Mitt may have the potential to be palatable to enough soft Democrats to generate a shockwave so resounding it alters the internal balance of Democrat policy.
I am pondering many things at this stage of the primary season.
I will likely make up my mind by Thanksgiving and then lobby hard for my preference in Ohio.

You can get on a volunteer list by going to "rickperry dot org", once I have decided I will be going to work for their campaign. I worked even for McCain's campaign even though he was my least favorite guy in the race but Paul. The biggest gift a person makes is not money but influence and word of mouth.
We're all in this together.
Posted by: sven10077 at September 15, 2011 06:23 AM (AEIYh)
Yeah, I did that as well. Only got one canned email.
I don't even know if he'll bother with Utah -- it's so overwhelmingly Mitt. But I hope he does, because I really think Mitt's support is soft and there's a lot of money in Utah that he (Perry) should try for.
Posted by: Y-not at September 15, 2011 06:25 AM (5H6zj)
That will happen when the rest of the electorate catches up on Romney's record that the Morons already know.
Posted by: Vic at September 15, 2011 06:32 AM (M9Ie6)
I will vote for Mitt if he's the nominee, but I am disappointed in him on a couple of key issues (health care, ethanol). And, he needs to stop mischaracterizing Perry's Soc Sec stand - and stop fear-mongering. That's very damaging to the Party and conservatism, imho.
I also am a little worried about electability for Mitt. One, the anti-Mormon sentiment amongst the media and Hollywood types is very strong (because of the gay rights issues). I was really taken aback from the polling a while back that showed that the Left is even more anti-LDS than the right is. So whatever bad we've seen from our Evangelical wing -- expect much worse from the Left.
Two, I am hearing first-hand reports of muck-raking efforts from national media types against Mitt's donors along the lines of that they are developing a story line that Romney's campaign is going around campaign finance rules. These folks (wealthy business types) are being targeted. Their families and associates are receiving phone calls asking them to comment on charges that their gifts to Romney are illegal. It's so bad that these Mitt donors are afraid to donate to charitable causes (except anonymously) because they don't want the blow-back from this muck-raking to affect the charities they support.

I'm not sure how anyone thinks Perry has a worse shot against Obama than Romney. If the polls show it at this point, I think that's because the great unwashed have no idea who Perry is, while Romney has essentially been a candidate for President for over 5 years now.

__________
The same could be said for Perry though, Sven.
The things that Perry is getting beaten up for by his fellow conservatives, are things that would appeal to a lot of dissatisfied Dems. There are a lot of conservative Christian latino voters, for one example.
Mitt has less appeal to blue collar voters than Perry does......Mitt comes across as a stuffy, silver-spoon type.
