Bickering over rescue of Post Office escalates
On this day in 1789 Congress authorized the Post Office. It IS one of the few things that the government does that is actually authorized by the Constitution. By this time next year it will probably be gone. The government since the 30s and FDR has been incapable of doing anything efficiently.
Of course the Democrats refuse to reign in labor costs which is what is driving the P.O. into bankruptcy. It isnÂ’t a service to them, it is a socialist jobs program.

Some of ya'll were complaining that Perry needed to go on the attack mode yesterday, well here it is
He is going after Romney:
“We don’t need to nominate Obama-lite,” Perry continued. “We don’t need to nominate someone who is going to blur the lines between President Obama and our nominee.”
The focus of the attack was on Masscare. He also needs to go after Bachmann but he may see her star as fading anyway due to self-implosion, so why take a chance. Myself, I fully expected to see Romney fading after Labor Day and name recognition becoming less of a factor. But PerryÂ’s entry into the race combined with Bachmann committing political suicide has changed the dynamic considerably.
Keep in mind the debate is tonight. May be interesting if Fox doesnÂ’t screw it up by posting a lot of Paulbot questions based on them flooding those write-in things.
Posted by: Vic at September 22, 2011 02:56 AM (M9Ie6)
And speaking of Romney we have a new NH poll
This one is showing Romney with a commanding lead in NH, followed by Ron Paul, and then Jon Huntsman. (that should tell you something).
Before all you Romneybots start dancing in the streets you should know this is another one of those “university polls”. In addition, a lot of us have always said Romney would likely take NH because he is something of a favorite son there,
But, favorite son States can also be a double edged sword. The implication will be that he MUST take NH and by a good margin or he will be seen to be failing. That same thing goes for Bachmann in Iowa.

And in the other government fraud case Light Squared, who else's communist nose turned up?
As Republican lawmakers begin to dig into the White House's cozy relationship with a startup wireless company and the wealthy Democratic donor who owns it, a new character has appeared on the story's edges: liberal superdonor, conservative bete noire and controversial investor George Soros.

How many people knew about this from the EEOC?
They were trying to make it legally hazardous to do criminal background checks on new hires. Through what travesty of legal theory was this?
It is high time to get rid of this travesty of a commission. Even during Republican adm this commission is at best worthless. During communist administrations it runs amuck.
Posted by: Vic at September 22, 2011 02:59 AM (M9Ie6)
F&F does one of their shitty “fair and balanced” debates. Juan Williams will be telling Republicans how they should campaign. Another reason why these things are just stupid. Why not put up two Republicans, one from the conservative wing and one from the squishy wing of the party.
Of course Juan loves him some Romney and so does the nominal "Republican" and both said that Bachmann was essentially sunk.

Meh, I get occasional parties where the street is parked up and down; as long as they aren't too loud too late I don't care what they do. The problem I have is with my deadbeat neighbors that park their fucking beaters on the street even though they have driveways where the pieces of shit belong. Fuck that shit.

I was reading some more on that proportional vs. winner-take-all stuff.. Illinois here decided to go with the latter.. we're in March.. and it's more of a gut feeling than anything, but I think more Illinoisans will go for Romney than Perry. Perry still sounds a bit too much like GW Bush. Let's see hwo he does in the debates..
And I'm still not convinced Palin isn't getting in.. I was before.. but after reading her comments from the Hannity show, it kinda sounds like she might - especially after Bachmann's implosion.

I have no problem with home studies and home parties..
If it is happening once a week with 50 cars however, I think it's incumbent on the home owner to be courteous to his neighbors about it..
Chances are that many of those cars are the Mr. and Mrs. Spouse meeting there on the way home from work. If there was a little bit of planning, maybe they should have carpooled and cut back on traffic.
If it's a big enough house to hold 50 + people in there, a few extra cars shouldn't be an issue.

Screw the moderators. Screw the RNC for not already doing this. It's up to the candidates to organize their own debates. (If they want to be televised, contact C-SPAN.) This whole LightSquared deal upsets me greatly. Here's the link to the FAA report that Tasker had in one of yesterday's posts. If you haven't read it, you should. It is very disturbing to me that this project has gotten as far as it has when it clearly should be abandoned for many reasons, the biggest one being national security.
It smacks of treason.

As a late detective said, "Everyone's guilty, of something."
You're right that "Not Guilty" isn't equivalent to "Innocent". Ask Angela Davis. Why stop at killing the "pigs" when you can take down the judge and bystanders while you're at it.

When I confronted him about it he claimed " Everybody's guilty of something." "The guy who murdered this woman is probably in the system some where and we have him on something else."
So the DA, Ronnie Earle and all the prosecution knew these guys were railroaded and had them convicted anyway.
While it turned out to be the case and the discovery of the guilty man eventually freed the wrongly incarcerated, it was a corrupt process and the prosecution conspired and perjured themselves.
It happens all the time. Never say one word to the police if you are questioned or arrested. The majority of the time, the only thing that will convict you is your own statements, twisted into lies.
That is why I cannot support the death penalty and loathe our lawmakers for providing no alternative.

Re the big home bible studies, I can see how that would be a little irksome. Sounds like maybe they need to have the parking limited to one side of the street or something. If there's noise, then noise ordinances are usually well enough defined that those can be used.
But here's my beef with this - I bet there's no consistency applied. I suspect that if some ethnic minorities were to have a weekly Friday night bash, complete with loud music, public drunkeness, and spinner-equipped cars parked all over peoples' lawns, there would be nothing done about it. (In part cuz the fuzz don't want to make life harder for themselves) It's this, not rampant Tupperware parties, that is the right scenario for comparison. And at least bible studies usually take place in daylight hours, rather than all through the night when decent folk are trying to get some sleep. Another example is the weekly gathering of extended family for the maximally fecund bunch up the street - where the abundance of cars is supplemented by the abundance of unruly tricicle motors and assorted noisy yard apes. Does an agent of the state come by to fine the Guadagungalunga family for their noisy soirees? No matter how loud or long the monotonous undifferentiated dance music blares, I doubt that the cops will show.
The only way to get what you want in this country is to be the scum - the people that the police know will be a nuisance to try to deal with. Just make it clear that you're not to be messed with, and you can damn well do what you please so long as you don't do anything that costs the government money.

In 1994 the verdict was overturned again. During the third trial, a sheriff's lieutenant who had provided key evidence at the original trial reversed his testimony and admitted he had lied under oath, DNA tests also eliminated Cruz and his co-defendant, Alejandro Hernandez as the contributors of the semen found at the crime scene and implicated Brian Dugan who had confessed to the crime in 1985.[6] On November 3, 1995, a DuPage County judge acquitted Cruz on the basis of recanted testimony, the DNA evidence, and the lack of any substantiated evidence against Cruz. In December 1995, the charges against Hernandez were dismissed by the State's Attorney
Cops lie.. they force confessions from innocent people. And yeah, sometimes those convicted are already petty thieves.. But, if we're going to start putting people to death for being a miscreant, I don't want to live in that country.

Amen, and amen. Any person responsible for the administration of justice who does such things should endure the punishment he wrongly inflicted, or attempted to inflict, on others. I include the death penalty in this. If you wrongly try to hang a man, you should suffer the hanging.
Mistakes are one thing - but all too often there's plenty of evidence of serious wrong doing. That should be punished with ruthless brutality, since it is arguably worse than the original criminal complaint.
Posted by: Reactionary at September 22, 2011 03:43 AM (xUM1Q)
No I am not. 99% of the hype you hear from the "operation innocent" project is bullshit.
For every one that may be innocent there 100000+ who are guilty as hell.
Posted by: Vic at September 22, 2011 03:47 AM (M9Ie6)
When pigs fly. Tell that to The Hammer. Ronnie Earle is enjoying his claim to fame in cushy retirement, with his endorsed replacement continuing his DA legacy in Travis County.
When it isn't simply the system but the electorate who are corrupt and railroad defendants knowing they are innocent but wanting them to be convicted out of malice, that shit ain't stopping any time soon. There's only so much systemic corruption that a State's Attorney General is willing to expose; and if there's no smooth way of cleansing, there's no investigation. Especially when the AG campaigns to further his political career and become Senator Cornyn.

Nifong was prosecuted and is serving time. He still has his defenders though; even though the state attorney general took the highly unusual step of declaring the Duke lacrosse players innocent of all the charges, not just "not guilty" with all its wiggle room.
I can understand why some morons might be against the death penalty as giving the state too much power and being subject to abuse. But that wasn't the case with this piece of shit Troy Davis; that lying cocksucker was surely guilty of murdering that cop and his wife should've given him a fucking throatslash when he told her he was innocent. And anybody that tries to argue that the existence of the death penalty makes us the same as Stalin's Soviet Union is a fucking idiot.

Ah - I see. I didn't know what a "Mission Viejo" was. Their general policy is a good one. I live in an area that does its best to be that way (with varying levels of success) and I like it. Admittedly I hate the high property taxes that make it possible, but I doubt any other means would work. The slum people all want to escape what they help create, but that just means that they spread it like a contagion whenever they leak into the nicer places. High property taxes, noise/junk ordinances, and good police patrols are the best way to do this without having to endure the tyranny of a homeowners association.
When I was young and starting out I had to endure the near proximity of the welfare class. I have no warm feelings toward their kind. Since we're not allowed to do anything to thin the herd, we must at least do what we can to contain it or get away from it. I don't need their drama in my life. That's why I support full-on drug legalization, elimination of liquor taxes, and acceptance of birth control injections as a precondition for welfare - let nature take its course and we're all freer and better off.

Our neighborhood bible study group does round robin allowing each participant to play host from week to week, and usually only during the summer. They post an attractive little sign in the yard where the meeting will be that day. Most people walk, but there are some extra parked cars on the street. I'm glad to see that they're so well organized, and that the neighborhood isn't going to shit with kids gangs.
Given so many churches about, it's extraordinary that this Mission Viejo group doesn't arrange for one to host them in an ecumenical outreach with the community. The host has been pressing the issue in a popularity contest of sorts, in bad form.

If they did that enough to maybe only have one meeting a month in the residential areas that may be ok, but even that would get old after a while.
I still say the best solution is to lease a commercial building. If they don't have the money for that then find a member of the group who lives in the country (non-residential) on a large lot that will handle all the parking.

"RECOVERY!"
You know my son asked about the history of the Post Office and whether or not door to door delivery was always there, so I researched it a bit.
1896 was the magic year, prior to that you had to go to the general store or a small cubicle in city hall or the equivalent. Frankly you could deliver the mail by charging people for delivery confirmation and making a one day a week rotating delivery per town for non direct mail. I am sick and tired of our society paying the price for unions and politicians not wanting to see things "change".

I thought we were all supposed to still be scandalized because Newt bought some jewelry at Tiffany's.
The left insists that the right has to be totally sexually pristine or it's "hypocrisy" and the left doesn't because they like to be skanks and say so. I want to know why the right can't have jewelry and the left can? How is that hypocritical.

Anyway after all the lies and threats, this little extravaganza will cost me about $7000. Oh, and if you didn't know, white kids/parents PAY and end up the victim of more lies because they know they will pay. I'm now not so supportive.

135 Yeah, the lawyer said that no one passes. They didn't offer the breathalyzer until he was done with roadside and he thought he had passed because he wasn't drinking---they will stand you on a slope, yell at you, etc and do it over and over and over until you "fail" in the "opinion of the officer". Lawyer said never ever ever take one. Demand a breathalyzer and demand it at police headquarters which is your right. They will then get rough with you but they won't have "failed sobriety test".
Son's blood and breathalyer came back negative. Still got a reckless because of roadside sobriety "fail" "in the opinion of the officer". Still have to take all the classes and pay all the fines but no dwi on the record.

Agree: 50+ people is no longer a "home Bible study" it is "Home Church" or beyond. It's one thing to exercise your religious freedom- it's something else again to make it so no one else on the block can have company over on whatever night of the week.
Christians- if we want to fix the perception that we're all holier-than-thou pricks, it helps if we stop being pricks.

MADD is just another collection of do-gooders, for whom there is never enough nosing into other peoples' business "for their own good." First the legal limit was 0.1, which was probably too cautious for a free society. Then they had to cut it to 0.08. No doubt they will soon restrict it again, and probably push for every damn car in the US to have a built in breathalizer linked to the ignition.
Yet another one of the baleful curses inflicted on the US by ill-advised expansion of the voting suffrage.
When I visited the Dominican Republic you could drive around with a drink in your hand and lift it to the police in salute while driving by. The key issue - don't get in an f-ing accident! If you get in a car accident you're sorta screwed no matter who's "fault" it is. So be careful and don't act like an idiot. Those should be words to live by no matter where you live. Along with the general policy of shutting up and minding your own business.

And anyone who doesn't take it to a jury if an injury is involved is insane. I had a friend who had a few beers at the golf course and was driving home. When in town only a few blocks from his house an elderly woman stepped out between two parked cars directly in front of him. There was absolutely nothing he could do.
He was charged with felony dui with a death. That was good for 25 years. It cost him a shit pile of money but the jury let him go.
The sad thing about it was by the actual law he was guilty and the jury engaged in "jury nullification".

--------
Good morning, Vic! I'm late to the party, but glad to see you on your toes this morning.
I have to laugh about this parking thing. That's the situation here. The families are so friggin' large and now with the economy you even have adult/married children back at home that many of the streets look like valet parking lots. We live on a straight street but are directly opposite the opening to a small (five houses) cul-de-sac. Each weekday morning we watch the cars leave and then watch them return at night, but by far the best are Sundays when the extended families are going to church and having dinner (except "fast" Sundays). It's amazing!
I am so glad we do not live on a cul-de-sac. As it stands now we still have folks parking in front of our mailbox, but so far no driveway blocking.
Anyway, I grew up in a "planned community" where you had to get permission from your neighbors to paint your house or put up a fence or the rest of it. It wasn't a fancy neighborhood, simply trying to avoid sprawl that is so common in DC-metro. So I am used to the idea and actually prefer it to being stuck living next to someone with junked cars in their yard or basketball hoops in the front or farm lights or whatever.
My feeling is that if you have the resources to have enough property to create a barrier between what you're doing and what I can see, that's fine. But in most suburban and urban situations, that's simply not the case and we need to put some explicit boundaries on each other out of the gate. People tend to be selfish and inconsiderate (she types while listening to the neighbors' beagle howl) so these sorts of regulations are needed imho.

Good fences make good neighbors.
What is with people and their pets, anyway? We did not have a problem in Massachusetts or Indiana or Houston, but in both SoCal and now here people do not seem interested in interacting with their dogs, walking them or attending to them. They are simply left out all the time. And around here they are also often off-leash. It's crazy. As soon as I can afford it I am fencing my front yard so they stop crapping on my lawn.

Another clash with local authorities over home bible study
California Couple Fined $300 for Holding Home Bible StudiesBut that headline is really deceptive. We have seen this before. The clash isn’t over “home bible studies”. The clash is over having multiple meetings with 50 participants in a residential zoned neighborhood. Look at it in another manner, would people gripe as much about this if the city stopped regular Tupperware parties with 50 people in attendance. Imagine this as your neighborhood and this many people coming in regularly and parking all up and down the street in front of your homes. What do the Morons think?
