1 We had a bit of a scare here in the KC, MO area but nothing major.  Spent two hours in my basement.  Sedalia got a pretty good one, but no fatalities.

Posted by: jewells45 at May 25, 2011 04:01 PM (Z71Vg)

2 I heard Sedalia lucked out because everybody actually took the sirens seriously after seeing Joplin.

Posted by: Bomber at May 25, 2011 04:04 PM (d88g9)

3 Probably Bomber.  I was the same way.  I kept hearing tornado warnings were issued and as soon as they said Jackson County, I was going to head to the cooler in the warehouse, but my boss called and told me to go home.  I was the only one there and the idea of riding out a tornado by myself in a cooler did not sound like fun.

Posted by: jewells45 at May 25, 2011 04:07 PM (Z71Vg)

4 WTH?  Is everybody in the basement now?

Posted by: Bomber at May 25, 2011 04:07 PM (d88g9)

5 I'm here, well west of tornado activity in CO.

I might be soon. There's a purple cell heading through Columbus Metro in my direction on the other side. Really?

Posted by: ErikW at May 25, 2011 04:10 PM (SdZyN)

8 The untold tragedy is farmers not being able to put crops in the ground here in N. Indiana. Most of the fields are unplanted and we had two more storms today and another on the way. I can't even work our garden plat.

9 Give me hurricaines any day.   Careful out there in flyover country M and M's.

The Ohio Farm Bureau is calling this the worst planting season in 60 years. I live in the country and there are tractors sitting everywhere that haven't moved in weeks.

Posted by: ErikW at May 25, 2011 04:17 PM (SdZyN)

13 8: I'm so used to ND and CO where nobody ever plants before mothers day that this does not seem so huge. But I guess farmers are not geared to planting shorter season crops in Indiana and surrounds.

14 Watching the wide angle radar over Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa today almost looks like a hurricane.

When does tornado season end?

Usually by mid June, but with this crazy weather lately, who knows...

Posted by: jewells45 at May 25, 2011 04:20 PM (Z71Vg)

16 and another on the way. I can't even work our garden plat.
Posted by: cicerokid at May 25, 2011 08:11 PM (5BENw)

Ag report said they had 20% corn in last week and pretty much nothing of any thing else. Now most of that is under water. Storm, flash flood, storm, flash flood, next day repeat. We've got about a two hour break now till the next wave gets here from Illinois. We're on high ground, but we've had so much rain the ground can't absorb it. The tennis balls the neighbor's dog plays with are floating in my back yard.

17 There's a purple cell heading through Columbus Metro in my direction on the other side. Really?

Uh, yeah. Keep your radio on.

I just came from north of Miamisburg and it was pretty bad. Apparently one touched down but I haven't seen it confirmed. I hung out under an overpass for a few minutes to let the hail go by as it was pinging my window. I thought it was going to crack the front window.

And more of this shit tomorrow. Fun!

Yeah, I can't remember the dates but we're pretty much in the middle of it. As it goes from April to May to June, the area of likely tornados shifts eastwards from the Plains towards the Midwest.

Hurricane season started last week, so there's that to look forward to.

I think lately the guy has been saying a lot of really bizarro stuff.  And when you attack Laura Ingram, I mean even the libs know she is a lovely person, even if they don't like her political views....I mean that's when I think they realized that he might be losing it.  It's more humane to force him to take a leave of absence and perhaps pursue some kind of professional help.

although I'm sure keefums is wondering about this one.

30 individual storm chaser ones, just a blank screen for each vid. The news sites play fine. Probably something with the corporate proxy Im behind

Could be. I didn't have any trouble getting them to play. Sometimes the individual streams stop or various technical reasons, usually because they're out of cell or wireless range (or the weather itself screws with them).

oh I agree but they probably had to compile a dosier so he doesn't sue them and this was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.  What is so frightening is the fact that since the dems have called for civility it almost seem like that was a license for them to become even less civil while the republicans took the call to heart and eased up.

Posted by: curious at May 25, 2011 04:42 PM (k1rwm)

36 This won't be funny to anyone but me probably, but one of our local weather people, Katie Horner just gets orgasmic over this shit.  She usually is the evening weather person but today as the afternoon guy was on, she rushes in, in blue jeans, sweatshirt and baseball hat and NO MAKEUP!  it was hilarious.

38 I just started this post a little while ago, so if your area (if you're under a warning) isn't added yet, I'll get to it asap. There's so many of the damn things it's hard to keep up. I'm trying to do the more populated areas first and working my way out.

Posted by: genghis at May 25, 2011 04:45 PM (4T2lB)

39 Here's the link to Janice Dean's weather blog, has a lot of information.

I'm looking for the video where she actually lists the "high population centers" at risk tonight.

40 Watching the met game and the weather and fog is crazy but it looks from the weather map it's only going to get worse.  They have a bow echo to the south.

He's the mid-morning guy on 700 WLW, nevermind.

42 My daughter's orchestra concert was canceled tonight. Most everybody was already there, but at least they stopped us part way through sending everybody to the basement of the school, and sent us home instead. Apparently the weather was not quite that bad, but I expect NE Ohio will see some damage.

43 I came upstairs to warm up (basement is cold) before the second wave comes through in about an hour.  Large tornado in Columbus, Lawrenceburg got hit and there are people trapped and injuries,  someone called in from Greensburg reporting potato size hail.

Then someone called in and wanted to know if it was baked potato size or new red potato size.  LOL!
