This is so disrespectful to the voters. I am not kidding. Twitter is not a place to fully express ideas. It's a place to repeat extremely simplified conclusions.
An internet, text based debate? Sounds freaking lovely. Sounds awesome.
Twitter? A waste. Is this marketing for Twitter? Why in the world would they pick this over a simple debate website. They could just start their own website for nothing but debates. It's really obvious that this is a better solution.

I know it is supposed to be chic and modern and all that shit, but TWITTER and PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE should not be used together in a sentence.
Sadly this is the pathetic state of "debates" now.
The format for the Lincoln/Douglas debates were:
1st guy: 60 minutes
2nd guy: 90 minutes
1st guy: 30 minutes
(and they alternated on who went first, it was a few debates on different days)
Can you imagine this today? Fuck no.
I know this is meant to be a lighthearted, cute, fun thing, but it gets under my skin for some reason.

McCotter and Santorum have been disasters in the format, though. McCotter keeps being truncated, and Santorum really does tweet like the 12-year-old.

I don't think less of candidates who took the risk. I think more of them generally and think less of mittens and tpaw for not bothering."
I greatly appreciate Mitt and Tim having the respect for the voter for not screwing their real points up. We live in a serious time with complicated problems. Anyone whose answers to those problems can be expressed in slogan form only is a douche who is not fit for high office.
It's not that Mitt and Tim are not bothering to engage the voter. It's that they will not settle for a lazy way to do so. Mitt's a RINO and I do not trust him and he cannot have my vote under any circumstance other than a general vs Obama, but he is the best politician right now, and he knows how to communicate with voters very well. He knows that doing it via Twitter will not convince a soul, but it could lead to misunderstandings.
You should think less of candidates who are willing to risk that, because they are making a serious miscalculation, and are trying to run against Obama's machine, which is very sophisticated.
Sure, some of these candidates are just desperate for exposure, and taking a risk like that is worth it. Not a front runner, though. I like Bachmann and she's 100X more likely to get my support than a RINO is, but I wish she had sidestepped this.
They are supposed to BE LEADERS. Why aren't they leading? What we need is more depth and seriousness, and when confronted with this crap debate format, the leaders should have declined. Better yet, they should have demanded a text online debate with 500 word limits or something reasonable like that.
Anyway, I guess I just expect too much of these folks.
