This is, I think, where my frustration with the constant blog attacks on Cain comes into play.  And I'm not just talking about the HQ; it's endemic across the conservative blogosphere.  I don't NEED the blogosphere to tell me in intimate detail about all the negative press a candidate is getting.  All I have to do is wander past a newsstand and take a gander at the front page of the local leftist rag to see the latest accusations, true or not, hurled at the GOP front runners.

What I do need is the conservative blogosphere to tell me the ACTUAL TRUTH about the other candidates, and to help me vet them accordingly.  I trust the opinions I get here at the HQ and from Insty and Mark Steyn a thousand times more than I do anything out of the media establishment.  I value the insights I gain from these places, and I respect that I'm going to get, if not an even-handed view of the candidates, at least a broad understanding of their positions and their qualities.  The media will sugarcoat their favorites and demonize the rest.  At least in the blogosphere it's pretty much across the board demonization, but with a little truth thrown in for good measure.

That's what I'm missing, and that's why this whole mess has me so up in arms and frustrated.  I don't think I'm alone.  And again, this isn't solely directed at the HQ; it's more of a take on the blogosphere as a whole.

So please, I beg of you, ace: can you please post something about the other candidates -- good or bad, substantial or puff-piece -- and give the Cain trainwreck a break?  This is your blog, I understand, but there must be SOMETHING else that we can discuss.  Something else that warrants three or four posts a day.  What did Obama do at the G20?  How about Netanyahu and his plans for more settlements in Jerusalem?  Moochelle busting a move on i-Carly?  ANYTHING.

Otherwise I think I'm just going to have to flip a coin when I get to the ballot box in January and vote for whoever's name is closest to the coin when it lands.

To me it seems both Ace and the Cainiacs are way too quick to judge. There was a lot more evidence than this in both the Duke Lacrosse case and the DSK case and both accusations turned out to be false.

There's still some time before the nomination, let's just wait for this to develop and judge Cain's guilt or innocence once the story has fully matured.

I think one tends to do that if one's own party is throwing its support behind a ludicrously unqualified candidate. I dislike many of the current crop for ideological reasons, but I think Cain is the only one of the lot who lacks the political competence and substance to actually be potus.

Except that the party wasn't throwing it's support behind Cain, as evidenced by everyone's constant grumbling (and justifiably so) about Romney's unwavering poll numbers.  Hammering away at this Cain story over and over, multiple times a day, essentially restating the same argument across multiple posts, isn't going to change anyone's hearts and minds.  Everyone's more or less dug in their heels at this point, and there's not going to be any movememnt one way or another until either

A) Actual physical proof is provided for any of these allegations; or
B) The allegations become too numerous or sensationalistic for even the most diehard Cain supporters to let slide

In those situations, yes, certainly, let's hash it out.  But otherwise it's just retreading the same worn out battles in a neverending war of attrition, with no endgame in sight.

The reason this blog, and many others on the conservative side, are giving so much attention to the Cain scandal is because the guy was a motherfucking douchebag to Rick Perry. He's right up there with Romney (SS scare monger) and Bachman (Tardisil) for the Perry hatin' express.

When asked if he would consider being VP to any of the other candidates, Cain said all of them were acceptable, EXCEPT for Rick Perry.  That's right, Cain would run as Hunstman or Paul's VP, but not for Perry.  And this was right after Perry had identified a Cain/Gingrich hybrid as his ideal VP choice.

That's it in a nutshell.  The conservative blogosphere is run by people who read Perry's book (or at least summaries) and liked what they saw.  Although Perry's debate performances fell far short of the quality of his book (and his "heartless" comment directly contradicted his book's warning against calling those who disagree with us as "not having a heart"), he did not deserve the sort of shenangians dished out by Cain.  So fuck Cain and the bitch he groped in on.

Well I don't know about that.  Now if its a case that she isn't telling the truth about the hotel room then it destroys her credibility for all other parts of her story.  If she is telling the truth on it then I would say the rest is still neutral.

Years ago Gary Hart was an aspiring Presidential candidate and he was accused of having an affair with a Vogue Model.  He was married at the time. He denied it..... right up until the media provided proof.

Gary Hart would have been President if he'd simply looked straight into the camera and said:  "Damn Straight! She's a Vogue Model! Take a look at this photo of her. All the men in this room and several of the women would have done her if they were given half a chance!"

I dunno if any of the morons can still dig up a photo of her but I remember at the time seeing her and thinking "he could have had every man in America voting for him if he'd just have admitted he'd done that".

Hear hear!  It's called "getting hit on" NOT "sexual harrassment.  At worst, I suspect old Herman was a bit of a horndog while he ran the NRA, maybe because power and influence seems to do that to a lot of men.  In this case he probably saw a relatively nice looking woman looking for a favor from, him and thought he could get some. 

I wish I had a buck for every older man that has hit on me.  Hell, I'm 53 and I still get hit on at conventions.  It's callled "what men do when they are around women."  It's not fun but I never felt really threatened by any man who hit on me.  I was bitter and pissed about Bill Clinton for a long time, but now that I am older I just think this is how men are, especially men who get a taste of power and influence.  It's been said a jillion times that power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.  It's also been said that a stiff dick has no conscience.  Women need to get over ourselves and realize that once we demanded admittance into the male world of business, men didn't stop being men and we can't make them, no matter how many times we sure them and hire Gloria Allred and stamp our little feet about it.  Men in power think of women first as a piece of ass.

It's a whole different question as to the extent of Cain's lying about this part of his life.  Probably makes him unelectable, but then Bill Clinton didn;t admit having any kind of relationship with Gennifer Flowers and he was still elected, and he didn't admit meeting Pauala Jones or scrweing Monica Lewinsky until he was in front of a grand jury.

Actually that is one of the more brilliant things that Newt has done in this campaign.  If obama accepts, Newt will crush him.  If Obama refuses, Newt will in a roundabout way portray him as an intellectual coward.

That strategy would probably work well for Romney, who is an excellent debater as well (though not quite as good as Newt).

With Perry the idea would indeed be ridiculous, because the man can't debate his way out of a wet paper bag.

I'm glad Newt is a smooth talker, as well as Romney.  We've had years of candidates who were lackluster speakers at best, and utterly inarticulate at worst.  I'm tired of it.  I want us to have someone who is extremely intelligent, polished, and speaks well.  Those are attributes and we should regard them as such.

Well this thread is probably dead now, but you are wrong on your assumption that the mancrotch becomes inaccessible in this scenario.  I think you are assuming a man and woman of relatively equal size.  Cain is relatively tall, and likes short women, so his arms are going to easily run the length of her torso.  She could have her hips in the passenger seat, and be leaning over to give him 'road head" - and he would simultaneously be able to touch her crotch.  There is no reason to assume his crotch is inaccesible.  Usually, in road head situations, the woman starts from the passenger seat anyway, and aroused mancrotch is always accessible.
