— Ace Hot Air has some vid inside, and Weasel Zippers has some outside, including a cop bodyslamming a hippie.
I'm told. The internet is poor here so I can't really watch the videos.
They're supposed to be back in a couple of hours.
I kept out of the scrum, but the reports are that they do in fact smell, of soured, fermented body-sweat, cigarettes, and rutting lice.
I don't know what rutting lice smell like but that must have been in the mix.
And the people saying they smell are largely people who themselves were traveling all day yesterday, then stayed up till 1 am drinking, then rolled out of bed without showering.
So, to us they still smell.
I was just on FTR radio (sorry, I meant to give a head's up but draaamaa intervened) and I pointed out something simple: They are protesting because they suck at life. Their lives suck. They are doomed to suck.
But, the thing is, in any system or society, they would be on the bottom. In the socialist paradise they dream of, they'd be the drudges with the four-to-an-apartment situations.
They seem to think that if they change the way society values things, then they'll rise to the top. But they wouldn't. Because in any system, including socialism, you still have to do something to earn that top spot on the socialist gravy train.
The problems that beset them in a less-socialist system -- lack of discipline, lack of skills, lack of hygiene, lack of not sucking, etc. -- would still hamper them in the socialist paradise they clamor for.
And the thing is, the people on top of thing in a capitalist system? Would still be perched near the top of a socialist system. Because even a socialist system winds up promoting people who show up on time, do the tasks assigned to them (mostly looting money from other people), and tuck in their shirts once in a while.
We'd just all be poorer.
I pity them. What they are angry at is, ultimately, the universe itself for giving them life but not giving them ability.

In my very brief moments this past month or so, I guess they protest all who have jobs, and/or education, and have saved money. Otherwise they are protesting because, hey!, it's fun! Indeed, I doubt you could find what they're angry at "they universe" for, because anything you could suggest, I believe they would still have: luxury, ability, wealth (some of them, at least). The world is practically their mollusc, and they're still angry.
I suggest they're angry- at the universe, yes, but mostly their parents- for not giving them purpose. Which is why they latch onto this: this "purpose" of protesting "unfairness."
If any of them had been forced to find a purpose, they would a) be too busy to be protesting anyway and b) be much, much happier, no matter their circumstances.

One of favorite Ace comments was when Keif Olbermann abruptly quit. I realize many homeless are mental patients. They are being brought into the OWS scene for their numbers and to (maybe) share the Thunderbird they earned on the highway ramp with their fold-up cardboard sign saying, "Need job to feel up girlfriend. Money for beer and cigs appreciated." Sometimes they look pretty dang good here in Floriduh, dressed in pretty good clothes. While I feel truly sorry for those who rare messed up and can't get jobs, many of these 99% crew are a bunch of whiners who will disperse when winter comes, they are barefoot, living in tents, and surviving on whatevah and feeling noble for a cause that they don't understand any more than I do why they are protesting. Winter will seperate the real homeless from the whiners, if the spread of STD's, TB and influenza don't (they refuse flu shots offered as it is a government conspiracy). I predict,as a blissfully retired RN, a major flu epidemic for this country as well as measles, etc from their efforts.

Better than the mini series. If you like reading at all, you will love it. More in depth and includes some plot lines/scenes not in the tv series. The bonus is, you can read it envisioning all the characters as Duvall, Jones, Urich, Schroeder, Huston etc....

My uncle was schizophrenic. He killed himself in his early 20s. The other day I was at my grandparent's house and I found some letters that he had written from the mental institution. I'm not joking when I say that what he wrote sounds exactly what the OWSers are demanding.
I'm not saying that everyone taking part has mental illness, but I would venture that the mental illness is pretty rampant. Of course, those at the top are just using all of these mentally ill youths in order to further their goals of the end of capitalism. It's really pretty sad.

The rumor mill says it will happen tonight after curfew. Unfortunately, I need to be up by 4:30 am for work, so I'm probably going to miss the Livestream if it happens.

Heh! I was dropped on my tailbone on a motorcycle ride to a winery. By a pothole. I love to ride. Unfortunately I will never ride again. In all fairness, the bike was meant for 1 person. It had a pillion on the back for me to ride on, but, gatdamn, that hurt like a sonsabitch. I shoulda been on a cruiser. I should've known better. Know now. Ouch!

One of the side effects is you can not touch or handle cold stuff. The colder it is the worse it is. If you pick up an ice cube it feels like grabbing a live electrical wire.
Hmm, not quite as bad as Reynaud's, but it sounds similar. It's always fun to freak out folk with white and blue fingers for a couple of minutes in the winter. I got mild frostbite when I was about 12 and haven't been the same since.

@191, downtown St. Louis has very few actual residents, and those live 6 blocks or more from where the hippies are camping, so there hasn't been a lot of pressure to move them on, although there should have been, just to avoid the lawlessness that's going on throughout the country now. I guess the thought was that they'd have enough sense to come in out of the cold (we've had hard freezes the past 2 nights) and give up.
However, the city would like to put up the Christmas lights soon, and the tree goes in Kiener Plaza. People won't want to bring their families if there's a lot of homeless hippies making the place squalid and creepy.
Freaking occupiers. Most aren't even city residents. I'm so sick of them making me and the few hundred thousand who still live in the city put up with their entitled hippie shit.
