Washington Post Breaks Embargo, Spinning, But Noting the 545InSeattle Time-Chime
— Ace

They continue getting the timeline wrong.

They keep seeing that he tweeted about the Tivo eating his hockey game, in a tweet that comes closer to the top of the twit-feed.

But the tweet-feed is in reverse chronological order, duh. The Tivo/Hockey tweet came four minutes after the dic-pic, when Weiner had discovered he was "#Hacked!," as he claims, and when he really should have been on the phone with the police and the Congressional IT/security people about a serious electronic intrusion.

But instead of doing that, he decided to make a joke about all the malfunctions he was having with his electronics. #WhoCanISue?, he wanted to know, about Tivo eating his hockey game, rather than the more typical, "I have been hacked. Heads will roll for this. I am in contact with the FBI's director of cybercrime division as I type this."

But no, it's a joke, "touches" and "they can't stop with the Weiner jokes."

Here's a question: The Chesty Undergraduate receives a dic-pic, publicly, from a man she calls "my boyfriend," whom friends she has a "crush" on. She is on Twitter at the time.

Here's what I would expect her to write, if she weren't expecting this little package:

@repweiner LOL dude, what the hell is that? You trying to tell me something?!!

That is the reaction of someone surprised to see a dic-pic.

Instead, here is what she writes, publicly:

She writes nothing at all publicly. Just goes silent.

Why?

Because she was writing to him privately in a DM.

A few minutes later, when confronted about this by one of the conservatives who saw the dic-pic, she denies having seen it in the first place.

Really? Your boyfriend, whom you have a crush on, who just time-chimed to you, and suggested that watching Maddow and him at 545 Seattle time, saying it could be a good "friday night date, sorta," just sent you a dic-pic, publicly, when you were on Twitter...

...and you missed it?

9 I just thought of an actually plausible hacker scenario: It was this Genette Nicole Cordova chick, who had the hots for Weiner guessing his password (MarxLeninChomsky) and posting a risque photo that she knew would cause just enough trouble to get her the attention she wanted. She panicked and deleted all of her accounts because she's a shallow twit who cain't think so good. Okay, it's not very plausible, but it's not quite as impossible as the other hacker notions.

16 I think that Twitter, yFrog and Facebook have an obligation to their customers to tell us whether this high-profile, enhanced-security member was in fact hacked and if so, what they are doing to protect the rest of us peons from that kind of mischief.  It's not just that a government official allegedly got punk'd: if it happened the way he says it did, what assurance do we have that continuing to use Twitter, Facebook and yFrog won't expose us to the same public humiliation?

So yeah, ask the FBI to investigate, but more importantly, ask these commercial firms to prove to us that using their services isn't mortally dangerous to our reputations.

51 This pattern of behavior, following and DMing young women that apparently have no relation to his district or his work, fits in with the suspected behavior of [Weiner] DMing a crotch shot to a college girl in Seattle. Now, if he had only sent the dic-pic to a girl in New York, we could avoid any Federal or Tenth Amendment issues. The states should be a laboratory for pornography.

102 The only hacker scenario I can believe would be this: some hacker shut-in who's got the hots for this Seattle chick knows she's got the hots for Weiner.  She won't pay any attention to Hacker!Boy, so in a fit of desperation he hacks Weiner's account and sends her a picture of his *cough* "weiner" *cough*, so she'll believe it's actually Congressman Weiner's.  Hacker!Boy figures that she'll find out eventually that it WASN'T her beloved Congressman, but she'll be so inflamed with passion that she'll just HAVE to find out who the picture came from.  In steps Hacker!Boy, professing his love.  "It was the only way I could get you to pay attention to me, Seattle!Chick.  I love you, love you, love you!"  Then, in Hacker!Boy's mind, she'll fall into his arms like something out of a romance novel.  In reality, she'd probably call the cops and send him to jail on a lewdness charge and he'll become a registered sex offender.

There is honestly no other hacker scenario that makes any sense to me.  If this was someone who really wanted to humiliate Congresscritter Weiner, then s/h/it would have found a more widespread way to distribute the picture.  This makes me think that, if it WAS a hack, it was a hack that targeted the RECIPIENT, not the alleged sender.

If it WASN'T a hack, then Anthony Weiner's weiner is now in the public realm.  God save us.

184 Clueless@137,

It was probably a rootkit hijacking your system. What those can do (among many other catastrophic things) is take over the original boot sector of a drive before the operating system (OS) starts and substitute its own. In essence the rootkit protects itself from the OS and reinfects the computer on every boot.

To clean the system you have to run an anti-virus/anti-malware disk scanner (usually via CD) before the system boots so that the boot sector can be replaced back to the original.

Kaspersky Antivirus has some free tools you can use (some sort of emergency repair disk) that are very good though I use Norton for every day defense (among several other layers).

But yeah, those malware infections can be devastating.

186 This little story is really speading across the net. All the major sites have it up and running, AoS, Doug Ross, Patterrico, Lucianne, Free Republic and a lot of the minors are picking it up as well. This thing is spreading faster than a Texas Wildfire and I believe it will roast poor little Weiner's Weiner.   Tsk Tsk looks like another Dem caught cheating on the old  wifey

188 If you go to Treacher's page, there is a link at the bottom of the Weiner blurb that shows how you can view the notorious picture and read its EXIF data, should you have seen the pic earlier in Firefox and it remains in your browser cache. If you happened to see the original pic before it was edited in any way, it might still be in your cache.

Posted by: George Orwell at May 29, 2011 02:27 PM (AZGON)

189 And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those meddling bloggers.

190 Couldn't you just stop, call up Task Manager, and kill the (browser) process?

It can hijack that as well!

192 EXIF data can also be edited (trivially).  The fact that nobody found that evidence already is troubling to me.  There shouldn't be a need to solicit others who may have seen the pic.

208 Doesn't matter what platform you are using, never EVER leave your browser set to permit the opening or mounting of downloaded files or disk images automatically. Never install anything that you don't fully trust or explicitly want. A handy tool like Zone Alarm on PC or Little Snitch on OS X can tell you when your machine is talking to the internets behind your back, and it can prevent it too.

217 If Weiner's twitter account had really been hacked, then the hacker would have found explicit photos of this chick saved somewhere in his twitter account. He probably sent his dic-pic only because she sent her naughty photos first. And then they would have been published for the world to see. But, we'll never see them. Because he wasn't hacked. The end.
