West Virginia Special Election Results [Ben]
— Open Blogger

[Update: Earl Ray Tomblin, the Democrat, won.]

West Virginia held a special gubernatorial election today. The election is being held to fill the remaining 14 months on the term started by Democrat Joe Manchin, who resigned to become a U.S. senator last year.

The current Governor is Democrat Earl Ray Tomblin. His challenger is Republican businessman Bill Maloney. This is Maloney's first run for public office.

The election results can be found here.

The Democrats must be worried because people are getting mysterious calls informing them that their polling stations have changed or are closed.

In each case, someone's losing a trailer.

63 WV is one of those quirky states, for those of you surprised that a Democrat's doing so well in the Age of Hope and Change.

The Democrats there out-conservative one another and are typically more socially conservative than the average Northeastern Republican.  Not only that, but coal mining's big in WV and naturally the trade unions have their hooks in every miner who votes.

I'm afraid it is.

If WV elects a Tea Party governor, which it never will, but anyway, if it does, then the locals no longer have anyone to raise a stink in the press about how their state is being "neglected". If they vote D then they're good eggs, and DC is more favourably inclined toward them.

75 >>>Remember how WV seemed like it might go for the GOP candidate running against McMansion for senator and that totally petered out too?

You have to understand how bred-to-the-bone Democrat WV really is in a lot of ways.  Two Democratic Senators since forever, basically.  Only one GOP governor in the last fifty years.  A bunch of poor union workers.  This is one of the ten states that Mike Dukakis won in 1988.  Al Gore BARELY lost it in 2000 running on his whole "people vs. the powerful" schtick.

They're safe GOP so long as Barack Obama and his "let's kill the coal industry stone-dead" coalition of green-humping cocksuckers are running the Democratic party, and their CULTURAL home is with conservatives, but economically this is prime Democrat territory and make no mistake: WV's Washington representation has *always* delivered for a state that otherwise doesn't have too much going for it except a shitton of coal.  Why do you think Robert Byrd was so beloved?  It's because he brought home the bacon.

As a result I must regard A3P on the exact same level as the Democrats. A3P happens to be against Jews in the same way that the Democrats happen to be against whites. I have feet in both camps, so I stand to lose - in the form of tangible discrimination against myself - if either one wins.

But if A3P just ditched the antisemitism (which they probably won't, but anyway) I'd be generally for 'em, in the same way I'm for the Libertarians and Republicans. It wouldn't be my ox gored, after all.

The goofs running around with that stuff today are basically a dog and pony show of 1st amendment puffers who want attention. Back was Byrd was in it, they were actually killing people. The fact that Byrd is so eulogized by the left shows they don't give a damn about real, palpable racism in their midst. Kinda like what marriage and tornadoes have in common. In the beginning there is alot of sucking and blowing, and in the end you still lose the house.

103 Billy Joe and Emma Sue are a redneck couple, and one day they decide to get hitched. So, both clans come out and do the hillbilly wedding thing--shotguns, whiskey, the whole deal. On the wedding night, Billy Joe takes Emma Sue out to his father's hunting cabin for their honeymoon. As he's carrying her over the threshold, Emma Sue leans over and whispers in his ear, "Billy Joe, I'm a little nervous. You know, I ain't never been with a man before." Billy Joe's eyes bug out, and he drops Emma Sue right on her ass. He shoots out the door and runs all the way back to his family's house. After he opens the door, exhausted with the effort, his father says to him, "Son, shouldn't you and Emma Sue be makin' the marriage official right about now?" Billy Joe replies, "I'm sorry, Paw, but I can't marry that girl." "Well, why not?" says his dad. "She said she ain't never been with a man afore." At this, Billy Joe's father nods his head gravely and pats his son on the shoulder, saying "Son, you done the right thing. If that girl ain't good enough for her family, she ain't good enough for ours //

181 177  CAC, You should not diss WV while living in CA.

Posted by: Ronster at October 04, 2011 09:42 PM (/ej8I)

CA has the bacon-wrapped hot dog. WV has "mountain dew mouth."

Also its nice to live in a state where my kids won't be called n's by a group of people afraid to drink flouride (lest the UFO's piloted by the government can zero in and swoop down, making them fuck someone other than their inebriated sister).

The difference between the hippies in CA and the mountain men in WV is, the mountain men will kill and eat your ass, even with fewer than 10 teeth.  So I'd be careful.

'em are boys you don't wanna fuck with.

Guns help. Also decades of inbreding make them slower moving. So my bad shot isn't a handicap.

I am aiming for a place inbetween. Texas looks nice. I am sure Texans wouldn't mind a few million Californians coming in...

That's some crazy thinking by the WVs if it's true. I've never been east of the Mississippi River and don't plan on going. I've been to CA and while they may not be racists many make up for it in stupidity by the way the vote.

Army Officer to Subordinate: Never get too attached to these journalists walking around the war zone, son.

Subordinate: Why not sir?

Army Officer:  Just think of them as a bunch of bananas.

Subordinate: Sir?

Army Officer: Born green. Live yellow. And die rotten.

Your state gave us Jay Rockefeller, Joe Manchin, and Robert Byrd.

Your state has given us monstrous liberals non-stop for over 50 years.

Until California went retard in 1992, we gave you Pete Wilson and Ronald Reagan and Hayakawa and Seymour.

Your state hasn't spat out a half-decent senator or Governor in...ever.

189 West Virginia has The Greenbrier - which makes it awesome!

Posted by: Nora at October 04, 2011 06:29 PM (VxqUc)

190 Manchin (previous governor who resigned to take Byrd's seat when people realized he really was dead) won the Governor's office 70% to 26% of the electorate but this time his replacement Tomblin only won 50% to 47%.  I think the next election is in 2013 but if the plurality went from 70% to 50% the Dems must be really worried about this office changing.
