For most of them, it is not so much their solidarity with the public employee unions that is driving their actions.  Instead, it is their intense hatred of anything the conservative republicans do that makes them scream and chant.  And when that other side wins such a decisive victory as this, it really brings out the shouting crowds.

I'll wager that none of them, absolutely none, have any idea of either the fiscal mess we are all in, how the PEUs and democrat politicians (and repubs also) created the pay package joyrides that will bankrupt us all, or how any of this will ever affect their lives.  They're at the trough, and don't even know it.

My friend has told her child that if she was good that my friend would buy her a book.  So, as we were leaving my friend said to her child "ok, you've been really good so lets go pick out a book" and the kid said "I don't want a book, I want this" (referring to the doll) so the mom said "well that is an expensive item and we aren't going to buy that now, we're going to buy a new book".  do you know the kid flew into a full blown tantrum, full blown demanding the toy.  I mean we are talking a crowded store and a kid throwing herself on the ground and screaming that she wanted the item and she wanted it now.  so my friend said to me "don't be surprised by this but I"m going to buy the doll, I want her to stop this now before she attracts anymore attention".  After all she said "if she keeps screaming people will accuse me of child abuse" and I said "well, surprise if you buy her the damn doll, I'm going to accuse you of child abuse and I"m going to be right".   So she told the kid she would buy the doll and we all three went and bought the birthday present and the doll.  this conversation took place in a matter of seconds during the brief dinn over perhaps not getting to buy the doll.  So when we are finally outside and I"m just a little shocked my friend says to me "that was a terrible thing to say to me, to say you would accuse me of child abuse if I bought the doll, you don't have kids, you aren't a parent, you don't understand"  "you don't realize, she continued, that I asked her not to do this in the store this time, we talked about it and I' disappointed in her for doing this again".  I said to my friend "you mean she's done this before and you still took her with us to the store? and you've given in before?  All yes.  I was horrified, my friend was reinforcing this bad behavior in her kid, she was creating "the little devil" and she refused to see this.  She refused to understand that she should have left the kid rolling on the ground screaming and walked away and not even given the kid the book.  She's taught her kid that no matter what she says, if the kid has a public tantrum, she'll cave in.  Our relationship is a little strained cause she didn't see what I was trying to say.  My parting comment to her was "when does it stop?  At 17 it'll be a BMW and who knows, maybe she'll want to bring her bf in for a sleepover, if you let her get away with this now, she'll do it her entire life, it works, would you stop the behavior? "  She assured me that I 'didn't understand cause I have no kids and I said "well now I know how bridezillas are formed" and left.

The very first time my kids threw a fit I made them lie face down on the ground, with their nose touching the dirt, pavement, whatever.  I also made everyone around them, turn their backs to my kids. I made them stay that way until they were finished.

They each threw only two fits.  The first time, and the second time (just to see if I would make them do the same thing in a store).  Because I kept my reaction constant, they only did it twice. Problem solved.

Remember Seattle, 1999? Those weren't anti-war riots or anti-injustice riots or even your good old-fashioned race riots. They were protesting the World Trade Organization because of who-knows-why.

 

We also had a Mardi Gras Riot on Feb. 28, 2001.  Chris Kime was killed.  Here's essentially what happened (the police had their hands tied by the Seattle mayor and the chief of police):

Kime was bending over to help a young woman who was lying on the ground and being attacked. As he bent over, he was struck on the back of his head by Jerell Thomas. He fell onto the pavement and struck his head again. As he lay there, other rioters began to kick him. His friends and others surrounded him to protect him.

As he lay dying in the streets, police officers stood on the sidelines and watched. His friends ran to the police and asked for assistance. The police were instructed they could not enter the riot zone, so they did not intervene. Off-duty fire department workers and his friends carried Kris out of the zone onto a nearby street. He was placed in a police vehicle, driven to Harborview Medical Center, and placed on life support. He died later the following night. The cause of death was listed as resulting from a fractured skull and subdural hematoma.  Kris Kime's mother, Kimberly Kime-Parks, blasted the Seattle Police Department for letting the riots escalate out of control. "I always thought police were there to protect and serve, but they weren't there to protect and serve my son," she said.Other people questioned why police didn't act sooner.

The police guild supported the Kime family. A contingent of officers attended the funeral of Kristopher Kime

In the wake of the riots, Mayor Paul Schell announced a moratorium on Mardi Gras celebrations in Seattle.

Kime's family filed a lawsuit against the City of Seattle, claiming that the City enhanced the danger to citizens. The claim was based on the City's instructions that officers should stand by and not intervene. The lawsuit claimed this empowered and emboldened lawlessness as gang members and others brutalized innocent revelers. When the case settled, the family received $1,750,000 from the City, and annuity payments which would be used to set up a scholarship in Kris Kime's name. In addition a bronze plaque was placed in Pioneer Square in memorial to Kris's life

The attacker was identified as 17-year-old Jerell Thomas. He was convicted of second-degree murder in 2001, but the conviction was overturned when the State of Washington revised its "felony murder" law a year after the attack happened. In 2006, Thomas, now 22, was retried and pled guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree manslaughter, receiving a 10-year jail sentence. However, due to previous time served and good behavior, according to his lawyer, Jeff Kradel, Thomas could be out of prison by late 2008. Jerell Thomas was released from prison in 2010. Shortly after his release, he reoffended.

 

Kris Kime was white.  His attacker (who broke a bottle on his head and stomped on it) was black.  The attacker was also sporting brass knuckles.  There were witnesses who claimed that there was a racial motivation to the attack.  Needless to say, a 20 year old man was needlessly killed while the police sat on the sidelines.

For a hundred years we've managed to get away with distributing individual problems to society as a whole.  Thanks to a roaring private economy, ironically, it was possible to have lavish social programs and the bizarre (previously unheard of) situation of fat poor people. 

For that century there were always uncompassionate conservatives warning a reckoning was coming.  But they were always (barely) wrong because the private sector bailed out their opponents with various inventions, booms, and the resulting tax revenue.  Moreover, the optics never favors those who would take something from the old, poor, young, infirm, and so on.

But now we're well and truly tapped out, as the February federal deficit proves.  GDP v. national debt and deficit is looking horrific with no good economic news in sight thanks to Obama's anti-economic growth policies.    

Instead of dealing with this reality many on the Left are arguing the facts.   Which would be fine if they had another set of facts and reason to disbelieve the deficit and spending numbers.   But they don't.

So we're about to discover what happens when distributing individual harms finally harms the entire nation.  There's a certain inevitability to it.  This is right in Stuff Jefferson Warned Us About's wheelhouse. 

We're living the Gramscian endgame where almost nobody in charge has the basic knowledge we used to take for granted.  The only thing worse than taking some money from grandma is devaluing everyone's dollars or forcing sudden and dramatic cuts in benefits, but that's almost inevitable now.  Why do Democrats assume investors will continue to 'invest' in Treasuries when they are only paying lip service to doing anything to make it possible to pay it back?  I guess they plan to put Moodys execs in jail when the time is right.  

But the worst part is going to be watching our adversaries take advantage of the feckless Obama while he's still in office.  If only Obama had waved the START Treaty over his head and declared "peace in our time."  Then the circle would be squared.

My kids are still young but I always tell them I am their mom first, their friend second.  I tell them that being their mom is way more important because it is my job to guide, lead, discipline them.  They might not like all of my decisions, but they will always know that I made the right decisions for them.  I also tell them that they can never hide anything from me because then it is impossible to make an informed decision on their behalf.  If they don't tell me everything, chances are they will hate my decisions and they will be the only ones to blame because I made it based on the truth as I knew it, not the truth as it actually is/was.  I pound this meme into their heads so that when they are in their teens, they will still open up to me because I am their mom, not their friend.

you know, I'm not sure what the price was.  I was busy trying to get the joint birthday gift and get out of the store and was trying not to interfere really with my friend and her kid.  It was probably around the same price as the book though and you bring up a fascinating point that I didn't even think about.  But, then again, you have kids and are experienced.

I threw that number out there this weekend on our Sunday run as the average total compensation, and one of the libtard guys I run with said "That total compensation is a crock of crap.  Those teachers only make $50,000." 

I turned to him and said.  "Do you know what the average pay is for non-public sector employees in Milwaukee?"  Of course he didn't know.  I said "It is $19,000.  Those teachers are making more than double of the people that are paying their salaries.  Did you also know that the about 2/3 of the 8th graders in Milwaukee schools cannot read at grade level?"  Of course he didn't know that either. 

It was beautiful as one of the other guys (center left) turned to him and said "Wow, she does have some really good points.  I don't think you're going to win this one."

I also threw in the fact that FDR didn't allow federal workers to unionize and that Jimmy Carter didn't allow them to have collective bargaining rights.

CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch is proclaiming Granny D Remembrance Day on the anniversary of the death of one the state's feistier advocates.

Doris "Granny D" Haddock walked across the country at the age of 89 to fight for campaign finance reform. In 2004 -- at age 94 - she campaigned against Republican U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg and won 34 percent of the vote, but not the election.

She died one year ago at age 100.

Her collection of journals, letters and memorabilia will be donated by her family to Mason Library at Keene State College. The collection will become part of the library's New Hampshire Social Justice Collection.

This woman spoke at my university graduation back in 2002, when she was awarded an honorary degree or some bullshit.  I made sure that the few times she looked in my direction I was either yawning, reading a book, or doing a cat's cradle.  Sure I was one of several thousand, but I was relatively close to the stage, so I like to imagine she saw me and registered how very much I DIDN'T care about her or her pathetic progressivism.  Awesome times.

I'd also like to say that I'm violently ill to find out that NH has a "social justice" anything.  And here I'd hoped Keene State wasn't utterly around the bend like every other postsecondary institution in the world.  Alas, I am wrong.  My sister will weep for her alma mater.

225 Last night I said this whole wisconsin thing reminded me of obamacare.  A lot of people said that obamacare was worse but what I was trying to say was that I will never forget the shocked and disappointed feelings I had when I realized they had passed that bill not really caring what the American people wanted.  I think the libs/dems felt that feeling for the first time with this situation in Wisconsin and look how badly they reacted and behaved.  When the shoe is on the other foot they don't understand.

Just because regular hard working Americans of all shapes and sizes and ideology didn't take to the streets and tear their country apart over the obamacare bill, even though it was passed at Christmas, Christmas which some how made it worse psychologically, doesn't mean they odn't have memories of how they felt and that they aren't angry.  Most people are so busy with their jobs and families and trying to navigate this fast changing ever complicated and confusing world they don't have time to drop everything and protest, they will do it with their votes.  I think this is why the left doesn't take regular Americans seriously cause they think the answer is tearing things up physically, words and protesting and it's not, it's discussion and reaching a win/win solution and including everyone in the discussion not just those who you know will agree.  they don't get this at all.

When my kids started mouthing off in a store, I'd turn my back on them after saying, "I don't have time for this.  I'm leaving."  First, they were shocked into silence, and second, they started running like mad to catch up to their ride home.

Our newspaper used to run child psychologist John Rosemond's column, and I'll never forget his retelling of his daughter's foray into temper tantrums.  Hers started at home.  Rosemond told her it was fine with him if she threw a tantrum, but she would have to go down to the basement bathroom and close the door because no one else wanted to hear it.  I think she had about one after that.

I have a big-assed pet peeve about parents who lie about that kind of thing and then expect better from their kids.

If you want to help your friend a bit, you might google "how to avoid power struggles with children". Some of it is too touchy feely for many people, but it's a good place to start for someone who is in the "let the child win" mindset.

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my daughter could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, "Honey, I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..."

When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Daddy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.

For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter's voice helped me to get through.

My guess is that he is about 30 years old. He hasn't worked since the Bush Administration so his labor wouldn't go towards supporting the machine. Tressel is going to be in deep shit soon from what I'm hearing.  The two game suspension by the school for early season rent-a-win games is just a slap on the wrist and I don't think the NCAA will be amused.

Contrast that with the SEC's punishment of Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl with an 8 game league suspension for lying to NCAA investigators, which was taken this year before the NCAA could make a final ruling on what he did.

I probably would have asked her to get rid of the child, but I was under the belief that morning after stuff wasn't an abortion. I'm still not sure. I was pro life even then, but I couldn't afford to take care of a child. I thank God I was spared that situation, and I learned my lesson. I have sympathy for girls who are in that situation...just not lying, dirty skanks.

 BTW, shouldn't Islamists start saying they support the husband's "Right to Choose" whether to kill his wife and kids? Or "Keep your laws off my body!" in regards to suicide bombing?

Curious, please speak up.  I have kids.  They're very well behaved.  Almost any time we're in public, we get comments from random strangers about how well behaved they are.  Most of the time we just say, "Thank you."  What we're thinking though is, "Yeah, because we expect them to, and they know it.  And they also know I'm not afraid to pull them over my knee and give them a spanking, when they need it."

My kids are 3 (4 next month) and 18 mos.  Both have had melt-downs in stores (they're kids- they're not always going to last for a 2 hour shopping trip), but neither has ever dared to throw a tantrum in public.  Knock on wood, and all that, but my kids know how they're supposed to behave, and they know they'll get in trouble if they don't.

As for rewarding them for good behavior (some one mentioned their mom did that, earlier), that has to be tempered as well.  My son has recently started "acting out" at his day-care.  As best we can tell, it's boredom and he's too young to have figured out a good outlet for it.  So, when he's bad, he gets a spanking when he gets home (I'd prefer the daycare do it right then, but they won't).  However, if he's good all week (no incidents reported), then he and I will go get icecream (which is really just an excuse for me to go get a blizzard from DQ, but I'm not telling him that).  The two have to be linked, and rewards should be infrequent.  Used properly, however, the carrot-and-stick approach really does work.

The Republicans went to war with the teachers, but allowed the pigs to continue to have their union. Why do the Republicans hate teachers but love cops? Could it be because the Republicans are an angry, uneducated, violent, malevolent mob who love seeing the cops kill people?

A teacher usually does some good. A pig is usually a blight on a community who adds nothing, causes fear, strips freedom, and sucks a lot of taxpayer dollars.

Plus, teachers normally do their job without putting on a costume.

 

This goes back to the complete disconect between cops who support these types of protests.  Glen Beck talked about this one morning.  How Van Jones (who's all down for the struggle against "the man"--and "the man" includes law enforcement).  Van Jones offers anti-police resistance classes to children.  These socialist union groups are very anti-law and order and very anti-police.  I just don't get it.

I have hope, too.  This last election cycle was excellent for the State legislature, ne?  And as for Lynch... there's something about Lynch that makes him non-threatening.  I don't care for him, but thankfully he's not as virulent in his leftism as other Democratic governors.  And having worked tangentially for John Stephen when he was Commissioner of NH DHHS, I can say with certainty that I did NOT want that man for my governor.  He was the kind of Commissioner who would listen to the advice of the last person who talked to him.  Absolutely no personal political philosophy whatsoever, other than, "I want to be popular so people will elect me, then someday I can be a Senator like Judd Gregg."

I know a lot of singles here complain about kids at the movies restaurants, etc., but I wouldn't think twice about taking my kids out.  They don't act up.  They use their 'respect voice', and they have been taught that their actions show people if mom and dad are good parents. Since they think we are great parents, they must act like great kids.

I have never talked down or dummied up a conversation for my kids.  They were taught about respect from day one. 

This isn't to say that my kids don't have any fun. I am all for a kid being a kid.  I want them to experience everything and to laugh all day.  I want them to act crazy.  I just teach them there is a time and place for that.  We also teach them they can have a lot of fun and still respect the people around them.

Some of my family think I am way too hard on my kids.  Others think I allow my kids to do too many stupid things.

Case in point: During the Olympics, I told my kids they could act out the ski jumps.  They proceeded to mash up an entire box of saltines all over a bean bag, put their swimming goggles on, an jump off the couch into the 'snow covered' bean bag.  I was proud of their creativity.  They were safe, creative, and made sure that they weren't going to break anything.  

My lib-idiot brother went ballistic.

I'm not complaining about the kids as much as about the parents.  Last Thursday I had a coffee in the pavilion at the art museum and watched two scrunts stand around chatting while their five kids, ages 6-10 ish, played tag, totally heedless of the elderly and disabled people coming in and out of the galleries.  They barely glanced over when the security guard told the kids to stop climbing on the marble.

I imagine your kids would be walking through the galleries with you chattering about the paintings; no complaints from me. I'd probably eavesdrop.

(Some of the blame probably belongs on the museum for advertising itself as a "fun place to hang out" instead of "a place to look at art."  Still--if I'd bumped into a wheelchair playing tag in a museum when I was 10, my ass would still be in a sling.)

look the plan b pill from all the research i've done (and other "concerned  christians" have looked into this as well) is more like making it so the sperm does not meet up with the egg or preventing ovulation all together. It has been SUSPECTED that it also causes the egg not to attach to the linning, but from all the science done on the matter the haert does not start beating until after it's attached to the lining. That's why I don't buy the plab = abortion pill argument.
