Wisconsin Canvass Over - Prosser Declares Victory
— Dave in Texas

When have we ever cared so much about the outcome of a Wisconsin Supreme Court election?

County tallies finalized Friday showed Justice David Prosser defeated little-known challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg by 7,316 votes. State election officials said they will wait to declare an official winner until the deadline for Kloppenburg to seek a recount passes. She has until Wednesday to call for one.

Kloppenhopper can still and likely will request a recount since the state would pick up the tab. Somebody smarter than me, maybe it was Gabe, said 7000+ votes is "outside the margin of lawyer". Let's hope so.

Anyway, I'm as happy as a little girl.

I took him downtown to visit Daddy for lunch and those lunatics were all over the place, yelling up a storm on their bullhorns and generally smelling the place up, and he asked me why they were so grumpy. I said what I usually tell him about liberals: they are sad because they have no brains.

28 The state of Wisconsin will be picking up any tab for a recount, if Klopp insists upon one.  It should cost in the neighborhood of a million dollars of our money, and will accomplish nothing except to add to their side's lust for drama and their never-ending fund-raising  efforts. I would prefer it to come directly out of the fake-sick teachers' salaries than to be added to my property taxes, but heh - that's just me.

31 Anyone have the official total votes? I am curious how short Prosser was from the .5% threshold

"A canvass of vote totals from the state's 72 counties finalized Friday afternoon shows Prosser beating Kloppenburg, an assistant attorney general, by 7,316 votes. The final canvass of the April 5 vote was completed 10 days after the election, the maximum allowed by state law.

The margin - 0.488% - is within the 0.5% limit that would allow Kloppenburg to request a statewide recount at taxpayers' expense.

The deadline for calling for a recount is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Although counties have certified their results, by law the Government Accountability Board can't certify the statewide results and declare an official winner until after that recount deadline passes or after completion of a recount, the state agency noted.

The Kloppenburg campaign has not decided whether to seek a recount, but it wasn't conceding the race, either."

The WI firefighter's union is acting the effen fool over it.    That is the biggest reason that public sector workers should have never been allowed to unionize.   One thing that has been glaring in the WI union thuggery is that, if you didn't know it before, you should know it now.   While I know that all firefighter's and cops are not that way, the ones in WI can't be trusted.   At least the ones in the leftist shitholes there.

Look at this pic.

Here's the description:

Migrants participate in a re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross in Mexico City April 15, 2011. Migrants from Mexico and Central America marched towards the U.S. re-enacting their bid to reach the U.S. as a Via Crucis. The trek across Mexico has long been dangerous for the hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants, mostly Central Americans, who try their luck each year, risking robbery, death from fast-moving freight trains or dehydration in the desert. The writing on the banner reads "Obama, fulfil your promise, Justice for all, No legalization, no re-election."

........
To compare the Stations of the Cross with crossing into America illegally is blasphemous!

Never read the book.

Me neither (but it's on my to-read list), but the two industries were inseparable. In fact, the steel industry was king in America for a long time.

My grandmother lived in Birmingham, AL when I was little. We'd drive over 1st Avenue and watch them pouring the steel at night (especially in the summer). I can remember seeing the raw ingots called "pigs" cooling, lots and lots of them.

B'ham was a steel town for many years until the idiot greenies made them all shut down and we were forced to buy inferior foreign steel. There's a statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forging that overlooks the city.

Serious Cat,

You do realize that the nation would fall flat without the railroads, even today? Right?

You enjoy electricity? Thank the rails for hauling the coal.

You enjoy plastics? Thank the rails for hauling the chemicals.

Essentially, you can look around whatever room you are sitting in and be assured that there's very little in that room that wasn't moved, in some part, by the rails.

There's a very good reason why people put their money in the rails, myself included.

Sometimes they have a banner ad about wind power making up 35% of our new electricity, which never fails to make me chuckle(and or turn red with rage).

A VCU prof did a presentation on the futility of wind power at our conservative group mtg this week.  It was outstanding.  The best part of the presentation were slides that showed acres and acres of ugly windmills and power lines.  Then came the slide of the coal plant that was ALWAYS built around wind farms because they're such epic failures.

97 I've been reading through the JSonline comments about Prosser's victory, and three things become immediately apparent:

1. The left will not accept this victory. The right, the Koch brothers, big business, and that woman from blah-bah-de-blah county all conspired to steal the election. I expect to see this election elevated to the sacrosanct halls of liberal whinage, and take it's place next to other notable stolen elections....Florida 2k, Ohio '04. Remember, boys n' girls, it's only a fair election if the lib candidate wins.

2. Even though libs in Wisconsin have lost the governorship, majorities in both state houses, and failed in their attempt at unseating a conservative SC justice, they're still trying to paint this as a 'near victory'. This latest loss, according to the unions, is putting Walker on notice. Now he knows they mean business, by gosh!

3. For some bizarre reason, Palin gets a moment or two in the spot light of impotent libby rage, and even manages to earn herself yet another death threat....along with any other conservative handily available. The JS did promptly remove the offending post, but I preserved it:

"Let's hope Palin's trip to Madison tomorrow is as successful as Otis
Redding's last visit there. Only idiot Republicans gloat over an election on
of their own screwed up so badly, no one can be sure of the actual
outcome. The sooner we vote as many of these gleeps out of office, the
better off we'll all be. Or shoot 'em. Whatever we need to do."

Soap - this is my first problem with my mac and yes, I had always heard they were not victims of a crash but they are machines and they fail.  I tried to install SnowLeopard but it did not work.  So, now I am trying to do the backup from an external  hard drive I backed up five days ago.  All my business spreadsheets are on that computer so I am hoping it works.  I will know in about an hour.  I went to macs after Vista came out because it sucked and kept crashing my pc laptop.  I cannot afford to buy another computer right now so I keeping my fingers crossed.

I usually do not do the updates when the pop up because every single time I have ever done the whole system update in the past on  pcs it caused problems.  Yesterday, at the advice of the mac people before my problem happened when I went to get a new battery they said I should update.  Well,  surprise ... today it crashed.  Should not have updated.  It started with itunes messing up and crashing it.  I am going  crazy right now as I need the spreadsheets.

It was so good that the Libertarian who ran against Cantor last time asked if he could get a copy.  The prof said he would put it online.  I wanted to stay afterward and get an email address from the guy so I could write some letters to the ed with the info in that show, but alas, my "ride" wanted to get going.  I'm going to track him down through the university.  Will let you know if/when I get it.

107 Despite the best efforts of the Unions and the MSM, the left JUST KEEPS LOSING.  Instead of destroying the right with their BS, the MSM only manages to lose credibility.  Since people believe they are lying when they say Republicans are greedy and evil, America believes the opposite.

History will look back upon the election of Barack Obama as the best thing that ever happened to America simply because he exposed the left and keynesian economics as the utter failure it is.

Now if we could just get someone worth a shit to run for POTUS.

114 OT Can anyone explain to me Boehner's strategy? And why any Republicans voted in favor of the CR once the Congressional Budget Office scored it as basically zero? All snark aside, I really don't get it. Why didn't Bohhner just say we negotiated in good faith, we thought we had some modest, but real cuts, but it turns out the administration and the dems were just offering up bogus cuts that we can't now support? I think he would have been a hero and have exposed the deceit of the administration. I think independents would have embraced that as honest leadership.

135 Here is what I am not hearing about the democrats:  They believe they are entitled to run this country no matter what.  If they win elections,  they run things.  If they lose,  they use every trick in the book (recounts until they can manufacture votes, legal challenges, running away so votes cannot be taken) so that they stop any action they don't like.

They are holding the American people hostage.

Injured enough sailors (xtras) so the Navy banned us from appearing in any further scenes.

144 Now what I want to see is a break down on Union Dollars spent / Union Membership in Wisconsin, and then the argument made that those Confiscated dollars would have been more useful in the Union Member's pocket or going towards Unions reducing their member's health care costs, benies, etc.  I want a break down of the cost to each Wisconsin Union Member's pocket book.  Then say "now wasn't that an efficient use of you dues?"  For a small percentage of stewards, bosses and true believers in the Union, the answer will be "Yes it was" but for every other member (the ones who are forced to pay dues to keep their job)...it will be a WTF moment when actual pain at pocket is realized.  There needs to be a revolt from within the Unions, someone taking the time to intelligently  illustrate the individual cost might just get that started.
The end point; the cost benefit of Unions is nil to negative for a real worker.  The leeches ride for free.
