Wisconsin Election Board Won't Certify Results Until After Probe
— Ace

Prudence? Or pandering to the angry left?

I have to say "prudence," actually. A probe into the matter is justified; there was definitely a major mistake made here, and if there is serial incompetence, someone needs to be out of a job.

Everything looks on the up-and-up, but if the shoes were on the other foot, and 7000 votes had been entered late for Kloppy, I sure would have wanted a probe, and would have been outraged had there not been one.

So I guess I'm okay with this.

"We're going to do a review of the procedures and the records in Waukesha before we certify the statewide results," Haas said.

"It's not that we necessarily expect to find anything criminal. But we want to make sure the public has confidence in the results,"

Yes, it is important to make sure there were no shenanigans and, assuming there weren't, that the public knows that the possibility of shenanigans has been examined and no shenanigans have been found.

I'm not afraid of the probe because it seems like it will just confirm what we think we already know -- honest error, and now the numbers are accurate.

I have a feeling that if the shoes were reversed on this point, the left would be baying, because they would definitely not have the confidence I do in the cleanness of the vote. They would be very worried indeed what any probe might turn up.

Thanks to Tami.

1 It really doesn't matter. Prosser sits on the COurt now and will again. This election doesn't even take effect for a while anyway.

7 Maybe I'm completely wrong on this, but from what I understand the votes were there all along, they just weren't sent to the AP so THEIR count was wrong. This isn't a standard "oh, I found a whole bunch of (dem) ballots in my trunk" type of thing.

8 I've worked as an election judge and I know this stuff can happen, especially when you are using humans as checks on the machines.   What I would not want is to put ballots in the scanner and and have to totally trust what comes out of the black box.   Shit happens!  And it's usually a bunch of old ladies doing the work.  Yeah they tried getting younger ones but sitting at the polling place for 16 hours is NOT fun.

Considering how the votes effect the election, i think this is a good idea. It'll help kill the "it was stolen" panic a bit.

The votes were legit. An entire town didn't forget to vote. Also i read an article where AOL News had actually gotten the correct numbers, but the AP didn't.

Just consider this a formality.

That clerk must be a real moron.  How the hell can your JOB be to monitor the voting results in a county, and not realize that totals are off by 10%, despite all the preliminary info you would've had about turnout, etc.

If you suck at math, you probably shouldn't run for a job that requires lots of it.

All that being said, kudos to her stupidity for driving the left even more insane.

11 Search for fraud. That's fine. But don't stop at Waukesha. I'd look into Dane, too. Why look only at Waukesha despite it being an explained outlier? The stakes were very high in that election, and it would actually surprise me if no fraud occurred; so smoke it out... all of it.

30 From what I've read on this, Kathy Nickolaus, the Waukesha County clerk, had been called on the carpet before for using her own little black box system to tabulate results instead of the one used in the rest of the state.

She's an elected official. This "probe" is pretext to having her forcibly removed from office.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

If the mistake was innocent, it resulted from a lack of transparency. Ms. Nickolaus has long been criticized for keeping her countyÂ’s election data on private office computers that are not part of the county network. But of equal concern is her decision to no longer report the individual breakdown of results from cities in her county on her officeÂ’s website. If she had, everyone could have seen that the city of Brookfield was listed as reporting that no votes had been cast. In addition, Ms. NickolausÂ’s office never reported what percentage of the countyÂ’s vote had been counted at any point on election night.

AP reported on the unofficial tally:

Nickolaus explained that when she got Brookfield's results the second time in the correct format, she failed to save it. So when she totaled the results for the unofficial final report Tuesday, Brookfield's total was not included and she didn't realize it.

They release this unofficial tally to the media. But the Brookfield person reported her numbers to the media, too, so that's why different media organizations could have had diff numbers, I guess.

He also explained to me that it was because of this wealth and some huge amount of money his business associates supposed to balance his from the deal they had that he was poisoned by his business associates, that I should seek for a God fearing foreign partner in a country of my choice where I will transfer this money and use it for investment purpose, (such as real estate management). Sir, we are honourably seeking your assistance in the following ways.

1) To provide a Bank account where this money would be transferred to.

2) To serve as the guardian of this since I am a girl of 26 years.

Moreover Sir, we are willing to offer you 15% of the sum as compensation for effort input after the successful transfer of this fund to your designate account overseas. please feel free to contact ,me via this email address

100 I'm not as confident of the outcome; but all for the probe (and a recount might not be out of the question even without being within x%).

I am cheered by the mathematician/statistical analysis saying adding these numbers makes the turnout/county/partisan split numbers look right (and they look wrong without it).  But I'm not so confident as to believe this will be the end of it by any margin.

109 Assuming that there was all kinds of vote manufacturing happening in the libtard-controlled areas that were holding back their counts on Tuesday night, I think this is genius. The election thieves were aiming too low and pulled too few votes out of their asses to take the election. As icing on the cake, the target number was provided by AP--a source outside of any official reporting chain. Anyone going after this county clerk should be beaten comatose with a piece of rebar. Scratch that. I'm all for getting this county clerk a slap on the wrist *AFTER* prosecuting the scumbags running the counties where they deliberately drag their feet until they know how many votes to manufacture.

Huh? I thought we were talking about the govt, here.

But this reminds me. They promised to look into those doctors that were giving out phoney excuses. Did they? I expect not. They promised to punish teachers who had the phoney sick calls? How many got in trouble? I suspect not many.

117 The way things have been going, pretty much every election needs investigation.

The problem is, who does the investigating? Should be a jury-like process, not carefully-selected insiders.

Posted by: momma at April 08, 2011 02:04 PM (penCf)

119 IANAL, but is it possible that the investigation, if still ongoing, could be used to justify a demand for Prosser's recusal from "the case?"

In any event, it also seems like an easy way for Kloppenburg to get her recount for free.

Posted by: Have we heard from King County yet? at April 08, 2011 02:07 PM (kGCjj)

120 It's pretty clear the votes were counted at the time of the election, were accurate, and were reported on the city's website. From Patch.com: "On election night, the City of Brookfield reported that Prosser received 10,859 votes from city residents, or 76 percent of the vote, compared to the 3,456 votes cast for challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg. The Brookfield Patch reported those numbers in a story with chart posted about 12:30 a.m. election night. Schmidt said her office also posted the results on the city's web site before going home on election night." There is a link to the city's website with the votes posted at 12:30 a.m. There is nothing new about these votes. They were counted immediately. No mystery. AP was the only one who had the wrong numbers. They are wrong on so many things, this is almost irrelevant.

121 From what I've read on this, Kathy Nickolaus, the Waukesha County clerk, had been called on the carpet before for using her own little black box system to tabulate results instead of the one used in the rest of the state.

She's an elected official. This "probe" is pretext to having her forcibly removed from office.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Posted by: Andy at April 08, 2011 04:29 PM (5Rurq)

Yes, her one-off election system needs to be 86'd, along with her employment as County Clerk.  Nothing to see in terms of fraud, but plenty to see and correct in terms of incompetence.

She should resign so her taint of failure can be swept away.  County Clerks can not afford to let even the appearance of impropriety affect their offices.

127 With all canvassing reports Prosser 751,990 - Kloppenburg 745,266, Prosser with 50.23%. Victory margin 6,724.

Milwaukee County actually had a pretty big correction of it's own during it's canvassing today, giving Kloppenburg over 500 net votes.
