As you also know, Scott Walker did not campaign on this issue when he ran for office. If he had, we are confident that you would not be listed among his largest contributors. As such, we are contacting you now to request your support.
Here's the deal: we looked up his biggest supporters, specifically, and now we're singling them out for that support, specifically.
We know you are a Walker supporter. Tsk, tsk. That turned out to be a bad idea, Sport. But look, just to show what nice guys we are, we're willing to assume it was all some kind of honest mistake on your part.
The undersigned groups would like your company to publicly oppose Governor WalkerÂ’s efforts to virtually eliminate collective bargaining for public employees in Wisconsin.
It's not enough for you to stop supporting Walker; we also want to get you on record renouncing him.
While we appreciate that you may need some time to consider this request, we ask for your response by March 17. In the event that you do not respond to this request by that date, we will assume that you stand with Governor Walker and against the teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters, and other dedicated public employees who serve our communities.
You have one week to comply. Ignoring this request will not go well for you, Chief.
In the event that you cannot support this effort to save collective bargaining, please be advised that the undersigned will publicly and formally boycott the goods and services provided by your company. However, if you join us, we will do everything in our power to publicly celebrate your partnership in the fight to preserve the right of public employees to be heard at the bargaining table.
We're the Police and Firefighters Unions.
If you don't accede to our demand, we'll put you on The Naughty List. And, um....boycott you. That's our threat. We'll boycott you. That's all.

Where I live all the business owners know if they want permits to go through they better give when the FD comes around collecting for the next fireman's ball or pancake breakfast.
They tried that shit when I owned a pizza place in Westchester...once they and the cops stopped getting their lunches for free, they were much more friendly.

Wisconsin is about the toughest, if not #1, when it comes to concealed carry.
WI and Illinois are the only two states that completely ban concealed carry. Although, I'm sure that there are a few extra-legal exceptions carved out for those who give campaign donations to the right people.

I work at the private golf course where John Kasich lives. Dad, a firefighter, asked me today if I knew where his house is (yes) and whether there were a bunch of State Highway Patrol around there (no).
I know that wasn't a threat by any means but he implied that a lot of people are extremely pissed and that I should probably stay away from there.
It's been getting awfully difficult to have a civil conservation with him lately.

All my life I had always thought of cops as the good guys...even thought of being one when I was a kid. But I'm starting to turn. I'm starting to see them more as de facto tax collectors - in the case traffic offenses - and report takers - in the case of crimes. Basically clerks with guns. I like Ronnie Barrett's response to this kind of shit. When the CA .50BMG ban went into effect, Barrett Firearms immediately canceled ALL transactions with any CA government agency, including all municipalities. That includes repair and warranty work. When LAPD sent him rifles later on to be repaired/refurbed, he sent them back untouched with a nasty letter.
By the way, Barrett still sells stuff to CA civilians, including any rifle that is legal in CA. Ronnie Barrett rocks.

Some counties they're there for the asking. It should be statewide, but that's a work in progress. Restrictions are being loosened one at a time because essentially State Law is close to shall-issue, the counties are just not obeying it until they get sued.
I've had them in two different counties in CA and I never bribed anyone or worked for a politician, or even a security company or anything like that.

After numerous dealings with them on both sides of the equation (getting a traffic ticket or calling them about a crime) I have discovered they are a bunch of union hacks, no better than any other public worker.
The sad fact is that around here, they spend most of their time hassling law-abiding people over minor matters. If you dare question them on anything then they really get pissed. I own a gun and have a CCW so I do my own law enforcement now.
The day comes when big brother wants to take our guns away, it will be the police enforcing that. They are on the dark side.

It's remarkable how much of "policing" now revolves around traffic stops for minor offenses, parking tickets and court appearances for these violations. If you check the frequency of these tickets, you'll notice a jump in them towards the end of the month. Funny how that happens.

This is true. And, while I agree that traffic enforcement is necessary (believe me, we could do with some more where I live) I think what gets enforced tends to be stupid. Like the traffic ticket one gets for going 51 in a 40. Down-hill. With no-one (but the cop) around. At 3 AM.
Really? If there was ever a situation where it was not dangerous to be going 11 mph over the speed limit, that's pretty well it. (No, not me, my brother).
But, then, you'll be driving along doing 75 in a 70- being passed like you're standing still, and the cops won't pull anybody over.

Depends on which county you live in. My county? Yeah, effectively banned. Many of the rural counties, like Fresno County? It's like one of the free states, effectively shall issue.
Calguns Foundation has an ongoing CCW project that's doing a pretty damned good job of straightening out the CCW situation. The old practice of handing out CCWs to political cronies is being turned against these jackasses.

Here's a map by county, it's a couple years old but mostly still accurate. Some places, like Sacramento, are issuing but the process is slow.
If you're thinking of Isleton, that was a Chief and not a Sheriff and also that was almost 20 years ago.
Notice most of the map is "easy money." And that the two biggest population centers are not - though LA has been sued and forced to issue permits once and hasn't complied, IIRC they are going to court again soon.
I don't put too much personal info online, but I can say it was two of the green counties and the reason was personal protection. The cost wasn't that high, but there were interviews and the process took a little time.

The theory goes that, when the money isn't pulled directly from their checks, enough of them won't choose to pay that it'll severely hurt the union. And they might be right, I dunno.
The thing that would help most, I think, is if the union stopped being able to protect the incompetent workers. Then, the good teacher/cops/firefighters would see that they're actually making more money by not having to haul the weight of the lazy, and only the lazy would have any use for the Union.

People don't have ot pay annual dues anymore. No more dues equals no cash for the unions. Some members who are conservative will tell the union to f off, some will be too lazy to write a check and I bet some liberals would forget write one while strangling their babies. Oh, and it's a waste of economic captital so some would rather spend money on unimportant things like food.

It's maddening.
I was pulled over last year in a town with a notoriously bad police reputation. I had a red "rejected" sticker next to my inspection sticker, and a cop whipped around to pull me over.
I was pulled over and he asked for the regular stuff. I gave him my info and he said my insurance had expired. I looked - it expired the day before and my new insurance card hadn't arrived yet. I told him that. Next, he asked about my rejected sticker. I told him I had just had the car inspected and it was rejected for some (asinine) rule infraction. I had 40 days to rectify it (had only been 7 days) and showed him the documentation. He said okay and went back to the cruiser with my info.
He came back with tickets for both infractions anyway. I tried to fight it in court and the freakin' prosecutor agreed with my position, but it was rejected because the judge "didn't believe in overturning these types of tickets".
I relocated from New Jersey to Florida shortly thereafter.

In Texas those are "Fix it" Tickets: you get the ticket that says basically what you said, and you just go to the courthouse and show proof there of what you said and that you've fixed the problem. The ticket then gets dismissed (there may be a fee, there, but it's not as much as a ticket).

I've even seen cases where it was a walkover because the prosecutors and other judges supported it.
Sounds like this would have been a good case for that.
You can SO get screwed. I've had "harassment tickets" - literally tickets for being related to someone the cop didn't like. So I paid them and then took it up the chain, luckily I don't live near there but I do hear the dude got shuffled off somewhere else.
Most of the time my interaction with traffic cops/CHP is not negative, for whatever reason.

No insurance is supposed to be an automatic impound here in CA. Except in LA. LAPD has recently decided not to enforce the rule because that might be tough on illegal aliens (Peaches was talking about it on ONT a couple of days ago).
You can get a 90 day registration extension for bad smog. Expired reg is a fixit ticket & small fee if it isn't too far gone. Surprised that CA hasn't done the NJ thing.

Is there any such thing as a school district where some of the teachers are unionized and some not? I thought a specific workforce was either union or not.
Anyway, after watching those Wisconsinites, I just can't envision them -- even newcomers -- declining the goodies of union representation. Guaranteed employment regardless of performance, inflated paycheck, generous retirement and almost-free health. I don't see any of those people saying No or having any trouble convincing newcomers to go along.

I would say most of them are because I have many friends who are firefighters and a few who are cops and I know they wouldn't do any of the crazy shit mentioned above.
The only problem is that in Columbus, police and fire are run by minorities and anyone who would dare speak up would be investigated for discrimination of one sort or another and the unions will definitely NOT lift a fucking finger to help.

This is.not.about. eliminating collective bargaining. It's specifically about stopping the loophole where public employees get to influence elections, legislation, and politicians directly, while using taxpayer money to pay for it.
NONE of the problems created by public unions come form normal, rational collective bargaining. They all, each and every one, come from use of taxpayer money to apply muscle on politicians to run up the benefits and pay in order to get re-elected.
That's the entire problem, right there.

Someone was mentioning in a thread the other day how close we are, historically speaking, to our ancestors who fought in the Revolution (or were at least alive then). For Texas, it's even closer- since we had to fight for our independence from Mexico. Many Texans really do "Remember the Alamo."
So even at the height of our Dem controlled days, we were pretty conservative, in a lot of ways. Even there, corruption has occurred, and does occur, but we're a lot less tolerant of it than many States.
So you have this combination of conservative politics and "rugged individualism," plus being right-to-work, pro 2nd Amendment, etc., that really just makes it harder for the thugs to move in.

I considered police to be brothers in arms of a sort. With actions like this they are showing themselves to not be brothers in arms. They are potential enemies, to be watched and on guard against.

* Idiotic concessions made during prosperous times that do not include sunsetting or triggers for lean times.
* Union-only shops. Ought to be a minimum, ten-year prison term for coercing union membership.
* use of taxpayer-derived funds of any sort--specifically including union dues derived from public sector employees--to influence elections, legislation, or politicians.
* Allowing union heads to direct campaign contributions of any sort.

Where I am voter registration lists (called walking around lists) are publicly available and free. From what I could gather on a search, they are available in WI at a nominal charge.
If I were a registered Republican there, I would worry about the cops and firefighters taking the scenic route in response to an emergency call.

This is an abuse of the membership, since it forces them to contribute to candidates they may not support.

IIRC - Reagan was able to terminate the ATC because the Fed workers are not allowed to strike - well the ones charged with public safety anyway.
During our current contract - in Philly - our healthcare co-pays tripled. First time that happened in years. We get paid crap, but our benefits are awesome. We complained a little at the rise, but the next day we remembered that while some off our fees rose, we still had the best health care plan in the city.
A friend of mine is Philly PD, don't recall which precinct, I know he lives in East Falls though. He is extremely disillusioned with the department and the new contract which has changed the overtime rule. (cops don't get paid for OT anymore?) which is causing a lot of paperwork to go undone since the officers just leave at the end of their shift instead of crossing all the T's and dotting the I's. Before they would complete the ppwk since they were still on the clock.
But it's not just the contract change that upsets him, it's the general ineptitude of many of the personnel. He's counting the days until he makes 20 years.

Commissioner Ramsey, a disgrace, IMO, is cutting OT everywhere. That's fine, I understand our city is failing. It's the way he's doing it that is insane. He wants detectives to pass off jobs at the end of the shift. So say I'm working a shooting and am an hour into it. The shift ends, and I have to tell everyone, "Sorry, I have to go." The next detective comes in cold - an hour later - and has to start from scratch.
Court notices are also being cut, and "non-essential" personnel are getting their notices canceled. The problem is that the bosses don't know who is essential or non-essential, so many cases get dismissed because the wrong officer or detective is cut out - to same cash. Morale is at an all-time low.

Unfortunately, yes, they probably did. And not without reason. There are a LOT of countries in the world, and American movies are almost always a big draw. Movies that flop over here can end up doing a brisk business overseas. The domestic take is vital to a movie's success, but modern Hollywood is always thinking of the global audience, of which the American moviegoer is just one part.

I've been a Fed (1811) for 4 years, I would NOT join a union even if I could....
I'm can say I'm personally ashamed by people who claim to serve and protect when their loyalties belong to someone/something other than the communities they are sworn to serve and protect.
I can't say that about everyone I work with, but there are those of us in the LE community who view this with complete disgust!

This keeps talented people far away from those jobs and the scumbags are forever protected. Their primary focus is not on their jobs but circling the wagons to keep what they have and get more.
The police in many areas operate with total impunity. They do what they want and if they say you are guilty of something that is it. There is no point in filing a complaint or pursuing the matter (unless the situation was surreptitiously videotaped without their knowledge). In fact you risk reprisal for doing so. The prosecutors and judges are just as bad. Even certain defense lawyers don't take them on for fear of reprisal.
The cops I see around here help out their friends but everyone else is fair game. They don't even understand the laws they are enforcing and they don't care because they know there will be no penalty for breaking the law. Try videotaping police activity and see what happens even though that is entirely legal in most states.
They are the front line soldiers for a government that has become a criminal enterprise.

It was pretty well known that a "Semper Fi" bumper sticker got you out of more tickets than "State Police deserve your support" stickers
Local cops on the other hand tended towards former jocks who had friends or relatives in the town council, commissioner, mayor, or police dept.
I will say that I was always treated courteously by LAPD or CHP when pulled over or speaking with them.
Glendale PD however were a bunch of loud arrogant pricks who treated every traffic stop like they just busted a major drug cartel

Speaking of police, tangentially, I am curious about the town near St. Louis (or is it St. Louis) that is thinking of making cold medicine prescription only, I don't get why this is still an issue. You have to show a driver's license to buy it, it is behind the counter, and you can only buy one box every 3 days, so how in the sam hell are the meth heads still using it to make meth? I believe they have found other ways, so why the heck does it need to be prescription only? My understanding is that the police control the databases about the purchases, so why is this still a problem?

We allow them to reward merit and performance instead of facing the barriers of collective bargaining that all too often block innovation and reform. Because of our reforms, government will become more efficient and effective for the people.
Ultimately, our budget repair bill is about the next generation. We are making the difficult decisions now so that our children donÂ’t have to make even more difficult choices to balance the budget we left them.
A lot of people have made their voices heard during this debate, including the president and the union bosses. But middle-class taxpayers who want a government that works for them also deserve a voice. Now they have one.

I have a great deal of respect for police officers, I had a good friend who left a high paying job to become one. However, I've also known a couple of really bad police officers. I think it's just like any large group of people, they form a bell curve.
However, what bothers me about this WI thing is that the bad behavior seems to be institutionalized as being OK--the union trumps all.

Since I've moved to Texas I've had two interactions with officers here (local town officers) and both have been negative. One was going 20 in a 40mph zone on a four lane road. When I got in the left lane to pass, he sped up to match my speed, then slowed down to match my speed again. Then he got behind me, tailgated me and followed me for another two miles. All because I attempted to pass him going 20mph below the speed limit.
The second pulled my husband over because, "your truck looks like it could have something wrong with it." When he couldn't find anything wrong with it (passed inspection, all systems working) he asked if he could search the vehicle.
Now add information like this on top of it and I have a very tough time trusting or even wanting to support cops at all. I'd like to believe that a few bad apples spoil the bunch, but I'm not so sure anymore. I think I'd rather rely on my own ability with a firearm than rely on the police anymore.

I know there are people here who like Fox News but frankly I find them just as bad and ratings-whorish as every other news station. The 24 hour news program was a huge mistake. My mother is a teacher, and part of the union. I asked her once why she was in the union when she rants about how much she hates it and how much the forced dues cost out of her paycheck. She said that once early on in her career, before it was essentially required to be in a union to get a job, she had to cross the picket line at her school. She said it was the most frightening thing she'd ever done. She was physically afraid for her safety and, because these were her colleagues, they could easily obtain her address, knew what car she drove, etc. She was afraid for us kids and my father as well. She said that after that it was nearly impossible to work with some of the protesters; they refused to coordinate on school projects, wouldn't speak to her or sit in the teacher's lounge if she came in. From what I gather, it was similar to the mental and social torture teenage girls inflict on each other daily. But then, I guess that's an apt description for any union.
She's retiring this year. She actually cursed (a REAL curse word) when she mentioned how glad she was that she was out of the union. (I've only ever heard my mother curse two other times in my entire life, so you get how big this is.) I told her to send the union president a bag of dog crap with a thank you note.

Driving too fast, my old Toyota with tiny, bald tires went right off the road, landing between two trees after going about 15' airborne.
My neighbor gave me a ride to a friend's nearby, and that friend took me in his truck to get the Yota (I didn't realize it was totalled at the time).
Three cops and two fire trucks were there, within 15 minutes. I was amazed.
The cop I dealt with asked if I had been drinking (it was 8 am at this point) and I said the last drink I had was about 10 (true) the night before. We went through the sobriety tests and I passed. He wrote me a ticket for driving too fast for conditions.
At court, I asked the ADA (nice enough guy) how much the ticket was gonna cost, as I was (am) poor, hence the old Toyota. He figured about $150.
When it came out to $55 I just about shit. Five different state/county/local vehicles pulled up almost immediately to help, and still I was only charged $55.

We need a tread about speed-traps across the country. In Texas I know of two. I20 east by Tyler, TX exit. I35 just north of San Antonio little town of Selma.
The best city cops I've ever been around were in
Chattanooga, TN.

I hate that term.
When you go to a community, where speed limits are set to protect themselves, and their children, from the irresponsibility of outsiders, you are not entitled to set your own limits.
It's not a "trap" if it's clearly posted.

Yet another reason to break their unions too.
Cops - when seconds count, they are only MINUTES away, and thus pretty much useless. An armed storeowner is much more effective in deterring criminals than they are.
Firefighters, same deal, when seconds count they are only minutes away.
These two groups have shown that they are loyal union pigs and thus should all be fired. Start over again, and refuse to dargain in any manner whatsoever with the new incoming groups. If anything, and I mean anything comes before their SWORN DUTIES, then they are just fucking wrong and need to be fired and blackballed from holding any similar job in the future.
