— Gabriel Malor Here's the latest. 99 percent of ballots have been counted. Prosser has 733,074 votes. Kloppenburg has 732,489.
Folks, that is, as we say in the election game, inside the margin of fraud. Police guarded the ballots overnight, but that doesn't really reassure. Would this be the same police that stood by and did nothing while union thugs tore up recall ballots aimed at Democrats?
The final tally should be up sometime today. At that point, either candidate can request a recount and, considering how close and contentious this race has been, why wouldn't they? After that comes the litigation phase of the election, which could conceivably end in the Wisconsin Supreme Court. That's probably the most obvious reason why Supreme Court justices---or any judges, really---shouldn't be elected.

Recount in WI find 1500 Dem ballots in the trunk of a car. Republicans bend over and ask for another.

ALSO, conservatives should monitor every step of the recount, demanding witnesses and official observers. Florida cheating in 2000 was stopped when a gang of well-dressed conservatives beat on the doors of the office in which they were trying to sequester the ballots away from watchful eyes, and the media was unnerved by well-dressed protesters going ballistic.
The way to frame this is "First they wrecked the Statehouse, now they are going for the whole state."

Once absentee ballots and the last of the liberal precincts are in, it'll probably be Prosser that will need to ask for a recount. My expectation is that some precincts will then discover 1. that they accidentally hit the wrong button and over-reported for Klop and 2. Have just enough ballots that they missed the first time around to make up the difference.
At this point most of the delay has to be because the county officials are conferring with each other to make sure their zombie ballot counts are properly coordinated.

Considering that they undoubtedly cheated their asses off, there is at least the comfort of knowing that a majority of WI isn't down with the commies.
They will continue to cheat, a la Franken, but they didn't have the massive landslide that was feared. They didn't even win in the actual election.

And the voters of Wisconsin will absolutely own the epic screwing they are about to get at the hands of their "public servants".

While I partly blame liberalism, when referring to Detroit in such a way, it should be remembered that for 20 years 70's-90's Detroit had a mayor (Coleman Young) that actively chased white owned businesses out of the city, then established a mentality of Detroit Vs. The Burbs that still dominates city politics.
Yes, that's all liberalism, but it's the extra-bad bits of liberalism (the extreme tribalism) that people don't usually think about that really made it happen.

"How do you reinvigorate a Democratic base that is totally dispirited?"
Very simple. Follow the Scott Walker plan. Make it abundantly clear that you're a union-buster. Don't just stop at demanding economic concessions - go after people's collective-bargaining rights and call them lazy, ungrateful union thugs when they protest.
Walker could've won this battle HANDILY. The unions were rolling over and giving him every financial concession he wanted. But nope, he was bound and determined to be a "union-buster."
Now, the people of Wisconsin get to enjoy the wonders of a 4-3 liberal state Supreme Court, and Scott Walker gets to enjoy the thrill of a recall election.
Well-played.

Posted by: Bill Mitchell at April 06, 2011 04:17 AM (Er/am)
Actually EVERY judge should face election on a very frequent basis.
The fiction that judges need to be 'independent from public pressure' has allowed the legal class to act above the law. Do you really think the authorized theft sanctioned under Kelo would have happened if the judges in the case knew that property owners throughout the country would have the ability to 'judge' their actions? How about the legal wink & a nod to all of Obama's actions (rape of the bond holders, closing of car dealerships, tsar's galore, questionable elections, rulings that citizens lack standing in raising questions etc.)?
For most people who work for a living, the legal class has become the enemy, no matter which branch of govt they are in. Elections are the ONLY 'legal' recourse that the people has against these tyrants in robes.
Power grabs by the Lawyers & Judges Guild have for most purposes neutered the legislative function. If the people are removed from having a controlling voice in their govt. (as you seem to be advocating), the outcome will be as we are seeing throughout the middle east.
The fact that our revolution was so bloodless (compared to all other revolutions) was that back then, the ruling class was so far away. Contrast 1776 with the French, Russian, Chinese and other revolutions where the corrupt politicians & judges were within reach of the people.

49 Even if Prosser loses, so long as the bill survives, that's the end of it. Union money is the key, and it's why they were consumed with bloodlust over it.
The "Scott Walker plan" energized liberals, apparently, to get less than 50% of the vote in an election that was framed in no uncertain terms as a referendum on Walker's union-related public policy. Wisconsin has bright days ahead if the conservative grassroots there can bear the weight of the liberal union juggernaut in an election as seemingly trivial as this.

Nice try stickety, but, like so many of your ilk, you are blind to the landscape outside your little lefty world. Don't feel bad.... allegedly brilliant college professors do it all the time.
First off, Prosser is ahead right now. There is a good chance he will still lose, for all sorts of reasons, some nefarious.... but he is ahead. This is no victory for the unions/Dems. No way. You threw everything, and I mean everything at this race, while Repubs around the country tore their hair out over their party's tepid effort. And this is what you got for it? This?? And we're supposed to be scared of this?!?!
Then, there's everything outside of Wisconsin. While you've been focused on the cheese, have you won even one victory on this front outside of Wisconisin? Your own..... Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, etc etc. Just one? Name it.
Back to this case. If JK wins by twenty votes or whatever, is she in good stead to not recuse herself from the huge question that got her in office? Methinks that will go to the SOTUS in the end, and there the left will have to prove their case, not the right. How long will all that take to sort itself out? Meanwhile, Walker will stroll merrily along.
Face it, even if JK wins, it'll be a victory, but you needed a BIG victory.... one that would rattle Republicans all across the land.
And this, my friend, ain't it.

Wisconsin has been a safe Democratic state for decades. Your state is where unionized federal workers got their start in the first place. That's why you guys on the left have been in such an uproar in the first place. You threw everything at this and in a state like Wisconsin and there's still a decent chance you lost. I'd be despondent if I were you now. Even if you win, I'd be despondent you could barely muster 50% of the vote.
Who do you think you're kidding? I actually took it for granted for weeks now that you guys were going to win this one given how little we did in the public relations arena and this is still all you could come up with. This is pathetic.

Government is just an industry to the left, and any time they vote they're doing it to keep money coming to them. They'll cheat more than Wall Street, they'll cheat more than any of the 'rich' they scream about, and they'll do it with impunity because they know they'll never see consequences for it. The only time they don't cheat is when there is nothing to vote on.

Although my sentiments lie with Walker and all he is trying to do (because I really do hate unions), I think he and the Wisconsin GOP overplayed their hand, politically at least.. They will likely lose a couple GOP Senators to recall as a result.
The union busting was not something Walker ran on, as far as I understand. And, all the state's public employee unions were willing to give him all his concessions without the loss of collective bargaining. I'll bet he could have got a no-strike agreement as well. If Walker loses the court case, does he lose all the concessions? Will the other side be emboldened in their next round of negotiations? I don't know.

We know that presidential appointments with a Senate approval doesn't work very well either when one party dominates the Senate most of the time andthe other bends over to get ass-raped on every judicial appointment. (at least at the federal level)
How about a combination of the two. At the State level have the Supreme court judges appointed by the governor and approved by the Senate, but subject to recall by an election with a super-majority of 60%.
At the federal level expand the court to 50 judges and make each one be appointed by a State (1/State) Governor subject to approval by the State Senate.

You are assuming that if the recall gets to ballot, that it will in fact prevail. And that no counter-recalls against Democrats will. That's kind of like assuming.... oh, I dunno.... that Republicans all over the country would be pissing their pants this morning over Kloppenburg's triumphant crush. Oops.
It's not out of the question that the recall battle could actully lose the Democrats a seat.... an imperative seat.

yeah, they might be thinking the same thing. They might give up on the recalls at this point.
I think Kloppenburg will win, because well the people entrusted with making this fair election aren't neutral observers.
However, I do think even with the loss, that this is a victory for our side. We've weathers everything the unions and democrats could offer and at worst we lose by a few hundred "found" votes or win by a few hundred votes.
There will be a recount without question. After that accidental 10,000 vote mistake last night, there probably should be a recount. Also i think if its within the .5% margin that the recount is free of charge if either candidate requests it and I know kloppy will.
It would have been nice to trounce them, but I see this as a win either way.

"The standard of good behavior for the continuance in office of the judicial magistracy, is certainly one of the most valuable of the modern improvements in the practice of government. In a monarchy it is an excellent barrier to the despotism of the prince; in a republic it is a no less excellent barrier to the encroachments and oppressions of the representative body. And it is the best expedient which can be devised in any government, to secure a steady, upright, and impartial administration of the laws."

"The fact that our revolution was so bloodless (compared to all other revolutions) was that back then, the ruling class was so far away. Contrast 1776 with the French, Russian, Chinese and other revolutions where the corrupt politicians & judges were within reach of the people."
Not true. The truly bloodless revolution was England's, in 1688. Patriots during the lead-up to and the actual Revolution itself tarred, feathered and otherwise fucked with all the corrupt politicians & judges they could get their hands on (the ones that didn't cravenly switch sides, that is). Many Loyalists left -- and good riddance -- rather than (or as a result of) getting the run-out-of-town-on-a-rail treatment.

Every one of these close elections always turn out to be: a) the last precincts to report are in Democrat strongholds; b) Somehow, "magically" extra votes turn up for the Democrat candidate, and c) We get images of the Republican hired election attorney with a dumb look on their face after it all happens.

Good news and bad news-
good news- Milwaukee is now almost entirely totally in, but Prosser actually expanded his lead with that to 845 votes.
bad news- outstanding precincts are:
DANE-1
ASHLAND -6
CRAWFORD-2
DUNN-2
JEFFERSON-1 (slightly better county for Prosser)
JUNEAU-1
MILWAUKEE- 2 (Prosser onlytrailing here by 43-57 though to everyone's shock and again with the latest bump here Prosser GAINED)
SAUK-8
TAYLOR-1 (Prosser leaning county)
2 precincts possibly favorable to Prosser, 22 not.

Any election in which liberals and their union cohorts have a substantial stake, there is almost always a large amount of voter fraud. I can't think of a greater challenge to their power at the moment. So given the graveness, and the fact much of this organizing was accomplished with substantial outside help, I suspect we will also have monumental amounts of ineligible voting. This of course includes the usual dead people, non-citizens, out of staters, double voters and alien beings.
The liberal mantra is democracy works, as long as it's working in our favor. Otherwise, we will cheat our assess off, corrupt all democratic processes and then blame the majority for their "assault" on liberty.

We will probably have this one stolen from us, but I still think there's a valuable lesson to be had. The left was in their typical red-faced, spittle-flecked form, they were outspending Prosser like nobody's business, and their comrades in the press made it seem as though the whole state was foaming with rage at the "union-busting". And with all this they will likely only "win" this election in the same way they win all close elections, through fraud.
What this means is that the story we were told about the fury among everyday Wisconsites was an outright lie. The circumstances were perfect for them: they had energy, they had the press narrative, they had an "offseason" election (which offers fringe groups the perfect opportunity to acquire power), they had tons of money and help from out of state. If the narrative were true this should have been a runaway victory with the leftist candidate winning easily, but this didn't happen. Walker and the Republicans crushed their nuts, they had the perfect storm, and this is the best they could do?
Why do we fear these people?

Jean, in the Senate there's already something sort of like what you describe. Senators have some power to block, or at least slow down, nomination of judges from their home state.
ctrl+f "blue slip." This describes it as not binding but from what I understand Senators have in the past been able to effectively block nominees.

Based on the swing it would suggest, if Obama lost Wisconsin he lost the election already- because Ohio, Virginia, the NE EV1, Florida, North Carolina, Indiana and New Hampshire would have already flipped with a minimum EV of 280 for the Republicans.
IF, IF, IF Prosser pulls this out with the unions totally mobilized, Obama's chances of winning Wisconsin drop dramatically.

"rarely gets used because the Prez includes the Senators in the discussions."
Well, exactly. Presidential veto is also rarely used, because Congress knows the president *can* veto, so they try to give him stuff he likes or will tolerate.
Any rule adopted by the Senate will be honored or not depending on the controlling party's needs. Any attempt to codify it in law runs in to the President's veto, and Presidents aren't likely to give away their own power.
I know that the home-state Senators have screened nominees they find unacceptable. Unfortunately, all the examples I know of first-hand are of liberal Senators blocking conservative potential nominees.

#166 Maybe the left were not the only Wisconsinites who were furious.
That's what I'm getting at. The Republicans took very strong action, all we were shown were videos of the rabble protesting at the state capitol, all we were told of were polls showing how Walker would not win if the election were held today, etc. The press made it out that there was this huge backlash against the Wisconsin Republicans and Walker, and if this were all true, then circumstances should have made this election a rout in favor of the leftist. That didn't happen, which says to me there are a whole lot of people in Wisconsin who agree with Walker and the Republicans.
The press hypes, distorts, frames, and lies all the time and too many Republicans politicians believe them. My hope is that they will figure out that they need to ignore the press and stick to their guns.

On goes the fraud. First they stole it for Frankens
then they stole it from Emmer, Now Prosser. Doom!
WA 2004 gubenatorial race provided the template for the Franken win. Dino Rossi won the election and the first recount. The Native Americans funded the second recount which Christine Fraudoire won (and state law says the winner of the final recount wins). It totally sucked and was completely illegal. The most populous county, King, was the last one to report in. It was here that ballots were "enhanced" by elections workers (who went through the ballots by hand and remarked them with sharpie pens as they determined "voter intent"), dead people, homeless people (who used a King County office building as their address on their voter registrations) and felons voted, ballots were "found" in car trunks, "on the sides of the machines", and just lying around and they were all counted. The military, which didn't receive their absentee ballots on time had its ballots discounted. The thing stunk to high heaven, and the law firm that helped whisk Queen Christine into office, then went on to give Al Franken the assist.
It has permanently scarred me and soured me on the whole electoral process. I will never forget it.

If the judge loses, Walker should just pass the bill that stops the paycheck deduction of dues. THAT is what all this fight is about! Then again, let them dummies keep paying their dues, maybe raise them by adding a processing fee.

O/T, but WaPo reporting the following:
A fiery President Obama insisted Tuesday that if he and congressional leaders couldn’t reach a deal to avert a government shutdown, “I want a meeting again tomorrow here at the White House.”
“I will invite the same folks that we invited today,” he added. “And if that doesn’t work, we’ll invite them again the day after that. And I will have my entire team available to work through the details of getting a deal done.”
ObamaÂ’s team may not include the president himself. Despite theimpasse in Washington over federal spending, the president as of early Wednesday was scheduled to give two speeches outside of Washington: one on energy in the Philadelphia suburbs, then another Wednesday evening to a group of black political activists in New York.
If the schedule remains intact, it will be the presidentÂ’s first trip outside the capital since he officially declared Monday he will seek a second term. And while Obama (D) and his aides have repeated said he will not focus on his campaign in the next few months, his schedule may contradict those words.
Gee, Obama can't even be said to be voting "present" any more. Oh, and Obama lied, who'd a thunk? He's also sucking up to Al Sharpton (his internals must be really bad!)

This is why I have a problem with "social justice." It is a personal obligation, or to use your word, "covenant." The left hijacks the idea to justify government programs and tactics of compulsion, even if laughably far removed from Church teachings.
If you want to look out for your neighbor, then you do it. Compelling, via government, someone else to do it does not fulfill your personal obligation. There is no grace on the cheap.

It's not on the news, they aren't out there saying "hey look at us, we did the right thing"...no they quietly just did it. Sure is one of my friends struggling a bit cause his wife lost her job and he got the cut. yeah. Source on these precinct locations?
The AP and JSOnline by county reports. Not sure what CAC is following though, since he seems to know the exact precincts still outstanding, not just which county they are in.

Just take Wisconsin as an example. In a remarkably good climate, a (R) governor won Wisconsin with 52% of the vote. In a slightly less favorable climate, the (R) judge either won or lost by a handful of votes.
In a Presidential election year with normal turnout, neither of these would be a contest. There was extremely low turnout in Milwaukee. With even 50% turnout in Milwaukee, the (D) wins easily.
The non-Hispanic white population in Wisconsin fell by 1.78% from 2008 to 2010. The corresponding share of the non-Hispanic white electorate fell by around 1.12%, because the minority population is much younger. There is no reason minority populations can't vote (R) but given recent elections, there is no reason to expect them to vote that way.
Obama won Wisconsin by over 400,000 votes in 2008 (out of about 3 million). Just given population changes, we would expect him to win 500,000 if the demographic groups broke the same way. They probably won't exactly but will it be enough to make up 500,000 votes? Nope.
Fraud is just a distraction. The future is about these changes. In 2008, the minority share of the electorate was about 25.5%. In 2012, 28%. In 2016, 31%. In 2020, 34%. This requires no additional immigration, just population aging.

Only Kloppenburg can save the public employees God given right to tithes tribute well earned compensation, from the cash cows, um, taxpayers, so I voted for her. And I'm not even a Wisconsin resident.

Average Joe's schtick doesn't amuse me any more. Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
Posted by: toby928™ at April 06, 2011 11:05 AM (GTbGH)
Not amusing in the least. Pathetic attention whoring is a better description.

But seriously, do you believe that a human being who succumbs just once to an uncontrollable attraction to a nine-year old girl deserves a life-long punishment? Modern psychiatry can successfully treat or at least abate such conditions.
1. Absolutely. No one "succumbs" just once to such "uncontrollable attraction." The rapist's wiring means he's not safe to be around children, period. As the father of a nine year old girl, I'm not interested in playing treatment roulette with her life. Given that I am 100% guaranteed to put a set of slugs through anyone who tries to rape her, it's better for the perv to be locked up forever.
2. Yeah, that firmly-held belief in the magical psychiatric bullet worked out really, really well for the Catholic Church.

A good point. When called out, average joe feigns a perverted sense of triumph, like a child announcing himself the winner of a game to which only he knows the rules and indeed that a game existed. He claims that he isn't a troll, but a master of socks. He is simply an attention whore; an asshole.

Not all of us can write world-changing comments like you two.
And isn't your criticism of me just like attacking Pastor Jones for burning the Koran?

As to your first assertion: I've never pretended that I deliver world-changing comments, Mr. Projection.
As to the second: No.
