— DrewM This is more obligatory than anything at this point.
An Atlanta businesswoman is breaking her silence, claiming she has been involved in a 13-year-long affair with Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.Over the Thanksgiving weekend, FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell sat down with Ginger White, who had an amazing story to tell.
“It was pretty simple,” White said. “It wasn't complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship.”
At least it's not an allegation of harassment.
Hopefully this won't interfere with Cain's campaign swing through Iowa New Hampshire South Carolina Ohio ahead off its all important June primary.
BTW- If you had "Newt Gingrich will benefit most from reporting of alleged sexual misconduct and an extramarital affair", wow and good for you. I for one did not see that coming.
Added: Coblogger John E. sends on Team Cain's response. It's....not good.
"Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault - which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults - a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public's right to know and the media's right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one's bedroom door.
Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media."
I'm pretty sure taking the Bill Clinton "zone of privacy" approach isn't a winning formula in the GOP primary.

OMG she once missed a car payment!!! She's doing it for the money!
For all I know, she's making it up. Or she's telling the truth.
One thing I do know- Cain's lawyer's response in the form of a letter to the TV station was one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever seen by way of trying to defend a client. For a guy who falls back on "I'll let my advisers make decisions for me" for every tough question, he sure knows how to pick 'em:
"Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. And I kept it under wraps while he was making a credible run for Senate. But now that he's running for president and sinking in the polls, now I cannot be silent any longer."

What form of "tangible proof" would Cain's defenders find convincing?
A sex tape? Nah- those can be faked.
Phone records? Nope- they don't mean anything.
Witnesses who saw them together? No- they could be lying too.
Short of them having a kid together, proven by DNA tests to be his, those who don't want to believe the infidelity / harassment charges to be true, won't believe it. Those who believed there really was some "there" there will be inclined to believe her.

I feel your pain, but Perry's been quietly releasing policy statements that the MFM have been ignoring as much as the SCOAMF's radical past (like Billy Ayers living room) and his non-existent qualifications and wanting to make energy prices necessarily skyrocket..
Perry wins on substance. He himself admits he can't debate worth a shit. And he did all his required Mea Culpas about that "heartless" comment and walked that back to the point of wishing he'd never said it, just about.
Perry really is the best we have. We have less than a year to circle the wagons and start getting serious about him. He'll need a lot of help which we know won't come from the national GOP. He also needs some good write-ups and some campaign cash.
Perry and a conservative Senate are well within reach. Let us focus.

Cain did say respond to Wolf Blitzer's question about an affair with an emphatic "no," and, later, that there were no sexual acts between him and the accuser, and seems to be taking the stance that the whole thing is completely untrue - his CNN appearance was about as far from his representative's carefully-worded statement as it could possibly be.
(And no, not a Cain partisan, and also not defending or slamming him - just thought it interesting that he would follow up such a definitive denial with an offical statement that tacks in the other direction.)

I'll say it now. I don't think Cain had an affair. Now the MFM or whoever needs to prove to me that he did. This has "democrat hit-job" all over it.
And I'm not a big Herman Cain fan. My primary vote will go for Newt or Perry. I just don't want the leftists thinking they can throw anything out there about our candidates without any solid proof. By the looks of some of the comments, it looks like a lot of people here believe the MFM more than they want to admit. I'm looking at you too, Drew.

That should be "Cain did say in response" - it's Monday.
(And unseasonably cold here in the Magnolia State - maybe even some snow coming later in the week.)

I say, wait and see. This, once again, sounds like the DNC keepin' a repub black man down. They want him gone, period. They don't want him saying any more good things about conservatism. Gotta' keep him in his place.
I don't think it's a repub. candidate behind this.
Huh? What incentive do they have to orchestrate a conspiracy in which they prod multiple women to come forward and lie, given that they knew that Cain wouldn't be the nominee?
The Dems were furiously masturbating over the even the slim chance of Cain winning the nomination, because they (correctly) knew he'd lose. He wasn't a threat; if anything he gave Dems reason to point and say "look how stupid those guys are".

And random O/T: Listening to the Urban Meyer press conference.
Posted by: ErikW at November 28, 2011 05:54 PM (7/c9/)Penn State reportedly made a run at Meyer as well, but... kids getting tattoos for swag vs. harboring a pedophile? Not a tough call. Penn State is so toxic, it'll take a decade to straighten that out.

John Edwards. Gary Hart. Bill Clinton. Etc, etc, etc. Happens all the time- overconfidence leads them to believe that they can weather any storm.

I don't think Penn State was brought up at all. Whether he was offered a job or not, I don't know. I'm guessing that was never a possibility because Coach Bruce and Coach Meyer are very close friends and I'll bet that Coach Bruce was instrumental in bring Coach Meyer in.
To listen to that cocksucker Gene Smith go on and on, you would have thought that he was the one who brought him in.

It's not the MFM making the accusations. It's four different women, some of whom went on record publicly. Do we expect that the MSM would or should just ignore the story for us?

Cain is a successful/non-affirmative action black man fluent in the english language who advocates conservatism every time he speaks. It's the dems worst nightmare, whether he wins the nomination or not.

I think itÂ’s remarkable [that] with unemployment at nine percent and growth essentially stalled at two percent his [Pres. ObamaÂ’s approval] numbers are so relatively high. They ought to be in the Â’30s. They are in the mid-40s. That speaks well for him.
I think it speaks that a significant number of people being polled did not want to be considered racist by voicing any disapproval.

We have less than a year month to circle the wagons and start getting serious about him. He'll need a lot of help which we know won't come from the national GOP. He also needs some good write-ups and some campaign cash.
Perry and a conservative Senate are well within reach. Let us focus.
Posted by: BackwardsBoy at November 28, 2011 05:43 PM (d0Tfm)
FIFY.
Perry is the only guy who is talking about realistic solutions to get us out of this mess: 1) Release our energy independence, 2) Cut the Federal government. All the rest of the guy are more than happy to manage the current government, with a few conservative bones here and there.
And let me say this for all of you who think Newt will beat the shit out of Obama on the debate stage: No he won't. He's had how many years to make himself that guy and he's done nothing of the sort. He's sold books. And he has had a chance to debate a Dem: He lost to Kerry over AGW. Check out Powerline And he left us conservatives high and dry after the government shut-down--we did more to defend him than he did. Remember "wither on the vine?" Yeah. That guy who said that will never, ever try to cut the size of government.
Also, 'cause I haven't said it for awhile: Cain will--WILL--endorse Romney by March 31, 2012. Regardless of whether Romney is in the lead or not. Even if Romney is in last place behind Ron Paul!, Cain will endorse Romney.

Where do you live? I've always wanted to visit Fantasyland, where everything you want to believe comes true, and that which you don't like is a dirty filthy lie brought forth by a conspiracy of the All Powerful Mainstream Media.
Can you recommend some good restaurants? Preferably with unicorn on the menu.

He's also a bumbling incompetent when it comes time to answering simple questions. It's not the MSM that's turned him into a joke; Cain did that all his lonesome.
The Dems aren't scared of Cain, they're laughing at him- and at us for even considering him a serious candidate in the first place.

I care about DC's spending problem. I care about those bastards grinning ear to ear when Romneycare was signed into law, praising Ted Kennedy for getting the federal government to pay for much it. I care about the endless pander by prime time polished weirdos who have a rehearsed, insincere answer for any position they need to take to get more power, and have a family of weird politicians with the same craving for power power power.
I am ready to see the GOP nominate a conservative who is willing to be booed if that's what it takes to make DC as inconsequential in our lives, and I hope that person is prepared for a very difficult job by a career that gave them clear principles on how to run a large government.
Cain is not my guy, though I do understand why some support this plain spoken outsider because they are as disgusted with politicians as I am. I don't think his supporters are fools, nor will I trash their candidate with this kind of issue.
Frankly, if we choose our president based on this kind of issue, we are missing the larger point. Character matters, but we are all imperfect, and there is a special character defect in the kind of person who has known he was running for president from the time his daddy did.
