— LauraW Science.
Men were instructed to gaze at women's chests during a math quiz, is the gist of the thing.
the study examined how being visually “checked out” by a member of the opposite sex affected each student’s performance on math problems.“We found that the objectifying gaze caused decreased math performance for women, but somewhat ironically we also found that the same women that were objectified also wanted more interaction with the person that had objectified them,”
Ironically? Getting the idea that someone finds you attractive is a distractingly pleasant little pellet of affirmation. One might seek out that good feeling again if one had a chance.
Just sayin'.
The paper also found that when roles were reversed, men's math skills were utterly unaffected by women looking at the men's chests.

Get the fuck outta here.
Unscientific MoronThought: men really don't give a fig if you stare at their heaving mams, right? Because they generally don't have any, and if they do, it's not a selling point.
This is sloppy. The researchers should have first made the effort to establish some comparable behavior that women could use to subtly show their interest in the male subjects. A bit of overly-extended eye contact, maybe.

I think the women staring at the men's chest was to show that just being stared at didn't affect their score. It was a control. It wasn't meant to test the sexual component.

32 Actually I've conducted this experiment at home and have found that lightly running my hand up the inside of my husband's thigh from about knee level up to a cut off point right before his crotch (with gradual lessening of the pressure going up) makes him a complete moron.
I think I need a grant so I can further this research -- volunteers don't come cheap, neither does Patron (paper writing aid). It would be a sacrifice to put it all together, but I'm willing to make it for this important stuff.

The degree of male stoopidization when in the presence of attractive females would have been a more useful study. That has the potential to be weaponized in some fashion. Imagine - a cluster munition that spreads pics of hot chicks around a battle field before an attack. While the enemy males break cover to run around picking up all the naughty leaflets, a secondary munition goes off overhead... Given the enthusiasm for pron in the ME, such a tactic would probably be doubly effective there.

1. Women Nationaly score worse on standarized Math tests then men.
2. This study shows that when those Sexist Men, stare at breasts, Math scores in Women are Lower.
3. Ergo, the Lower National Math scores for Women, are ALL MENS FAULT! As we know those sexist Pigs of men cannot stop from staring at our breasts.
We will now sue, so that all Math scores for women are adjusted UP, to counteract this blatant historical bias.

I disagree. I think the finding that the women affected by the men's stares want more interaction with those same men tells us that those women are grateful that the guys gave them a distraction from the a math test. They clearly weren't interested in doing well on the test, and the guys checking out their racks gave them some relief from the mental stress of the test.

93 This is that wimpification of women I was talking about -- now if they really wanted to empower the females vis a vis this math oppression by the males they'd teach them to 1)recognize the gaze; 2)work with the gaze while learning to ignore it.
Like when some horny ass engineer is ogling your t/a/l during one of those standardized tests, instead of getting flustered you: look over, give him a wink, show him a bit more skin and lean over and whisper "getting a better view now?"...then go about your merry test taking way knowing there's one male you are going to be scoring a bit better than on this test (and he probably won't do it again because a lot of men are inherently bashful when caught out like that).

At my undergrad there was a game called 'Sink the Bismark' that is almost the exact opposite or being high end. You take this big bucket and fill it with water. You go around the table and each person drops their beer in a big beer stein. The first that 'sinks the stein' has to drink it.
And it's usually naaaaaaasty. I mean we played it in collij so we were usually drinking Natty Light. Even worse, people may not be drinking the same beer. So that stein may be filled with Natty, Bud, Coors etc.
It triggers my gag reflext just thinking about it.

Lets take a look at the evil oil companies. Say Exxon. Profit margin 7.71%. So for every $100 they bring in, in revenue, $92.29 is spent buying and repairing equipment JOBS, Paying workers JOBS, Paying taxes, buying overhead supplies like paper and electricity JOBS, paying leases on land and other overhead, moving and shipping their materials and product JOBS. Of that $100 they keep $7.71 as obscene profit. Sounds like one hell of an economic pump for growth.....except all those jobs are moving overseas because we can't get drilling permits or keep refineries open here because of smelt or something.
But Exxon is evil, and it's all their fault!

I've seen a few guys at strip clubs and they all have the same blank, slack-jawed, mesmerized look on their face. These were not guys ready to solve math problems.
It was some years later before I saw the same blank, slack-jawed, mesmerized look on a young woman's face at Mardi Gras in Austin who had been hoisted up on a guy's shoulders and took off her top. When the crowd of men ogled her, she went into that same trance. I doubt that she could have added two plus two at the moment.

I can see myself as "Eve" pretty easy...
Sure, taxonomy and watching Lions lay with Lambs is pretty cool shit and all but seriously?
"You want to spend another fucking weekend "naming" nematodes and shit?"
"No, baby! I love our job! I think it really is important! I just wanna kick back and enjoy all of this sometimes, is all..."
"Okay, fine! Here's the fucking Brother PT-1290! It's all yours!"
"No. I am not going to go kick the Lion again! (Nippy, protective little fuckers those Lambs are!)"
"I am going in the opposite direction, as a matter of fact!"
"You, hear me!?"
*grumbles*
"Like you could give a shit!"
*kicks a 'Bunny Rabbit, Nesting near a Badger'*
"I'm gonna go this way and no "rib-clone" of mine can stop me!"
*says "Boo!" to a pair Nesting Turtledoves*
(Oh, don't you get on your high horse! This place is lousy with them!)
"No-one, ever fuckin' listens to me!"
"Seriously? That's my job? To sit back and applaud Adam for coming up with names like Gnu?"
"It's a fuckin' Wildebeest! Nasty creatures..."
"Hey, stranger!"
