— Ace Full video at the Right Scoop. And the transcript, too.
Here are some choice quotes. Worth reading in full, or watching in full, but here are, I think, the best parts. And this is long. Well, there were a lot of good parts.
Bonus: 29 ovations, more than Bammy at his SOTU.
One of his biggest applause lines was aimed directly at President Obama.“Israel will not return to the indefensible boundaries of 1967,” Netanyahu said, prompting a big standing ovation.
Later he added: “Israel on the 1967 lines would be only 9 miles wide. So much for defensible borders.”
Bammy got 25 ovations. And nine of Bammy's "ovations" were just Joe Biden jumping around like a monkey every time the words "high speed trains" were mentioned, so I don't know if they count.
Israel fully supports the desire of Arab peoples in our region to live freely. We long for the day when Israel will be one of many real democracies in the Middle East. Fifteen years ago, I stood at this very podium, and said that democracy must start to take root in the Arab World. Well, itÂ’s begun to take root. This beginning holds the promise of a brilliant future of peace and prosperity. For I believe that a Middle East that is genuinely democratic will be a Middle East truly at peace. But while we hope and work for the best, we must also recognize that powerful forces oppose this future. They oppose modernity. They oppose democracy. They oppose peace. Foremost among these forces is Iran. The tyranny in Tehran brutalizes its own people. It supports attacks against American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. It subjugates Lebanon and Gaza. It sponsors terror worldwide.
...
Now the threat to my country cannot be overstated. Those who dismiss it are sticking their heads in the sand. Less than seven decades after six million Jews were murdered, IranÂ’s leaders deny the Holocaust of the Jewish people, while calling for the annihilation of the Jewish state.
...
I am willing to make painful compromises to achieve this historic peace. As the leader of Israel, it is my responsibility to lead my people to peace. This is not easy for me. I recognize that in a genuine peace, we will be required to give up parts of the Jewish homeland. In Judea and Samaria, the Jewish people are not foreign occupiers. We are not the British in India. We are not the Belgians in the Congo.
...
So now here is the question. You have to ask it. If the benefits of peace with the Palestinians are so clear, why has peace eluded us? Because all six Israeli Prime Ministers since the signing of Oslo accords agreed to establish a Palestinian state. Myself included. So why has peace not been achieved? Because so far, the Palestinians have been unwilling to accept a Palestinian state, if it meant accepting a Jewish state alongside it.
You see, our conflict has never been about the establishment of a Palestinian state. It has always been about the existence of the Jewish state. This is what this conflict is about. In 1947, the United Nations voted to partition the land into a Jewish state and an Arab state. The Jews said yes. The Palestinians said no. In recent years, the Palestinians twice refused generous offers by Israeli Prime Ministers, to establish a Palestinian state on virtually all the territory won by Israel in the Six Day War.
They were simply unwilling to end the conflict. And I regret to say this: They continue to educate their children to hate. They continue to name public squares after terrorists. And worst of all, they continue to perpetuate the fantasy that Israel will one day be flooded by the descendants of Palestinian refugees.
My friends, this must come to an end. President Abbas must do what I have done. I stood before my people, and I told you it wasn’t easy for me, and I said – “I will accept a Palestinian state”. It is time for President Abbas to stand before his people and say – “I will accept a Jewish state”.
Those six words will change history.
...
The status of the settlements will be decided only in negotiations. But we must also be honest. So I am saying today something that should be said publicly by anyone serious about peace. In any peace agreement that ends the conflict, some settlements will end up beyond IsraelÂ’s borders. The precise delineation of those borders must be negotiated. We will be very generous on the size of a future Palestinian state. But as President Obama said, the border will be different than the one that existed on June 4, 1967. Israel will not return to the indefensible lines of 1967.
...
So peace must be anchored in security. In recent years, Israel withdrew from South Lebanon and Gaza. But we didnÂ’t get peace. Instead, we got 12,000 thousand rockets fired from those areas on our cities, on our children, by Hezbollah and Hamas. The UN peacekeepers in Lebanon failed to prevent the smuggling of this weaponry. The European observers in Gaza evaporated overnight. So if Israel simply walked out of the territories, the flow of weapons into a future Palestinian state would be unchecked. Missiles fired from it could reach virtually every home in Israel in less than a minute. I want you to think about that too. Imagine that right now we all had less than 60 seconds to find shelter from an incoming rocket. Would you live that way? Would anyone live that way? Well, we arenÂ’t going to live that way either.
The truth is that Israel needs unique security arrangements because of its unique size. Israel is one of the smallest countries in the world. Mr. Vice President, IÂ’ll grant you this. ItÂ’s bigger than Delaware. ItÂ’s even bigger than Rhode Island. But thatÂ’s about it. Israel on the 1967 lines would be half the width of the Washington Beltway.
Now hereÂ’s a bit of nostalgia. I first came to Washington thirty years ago as a young diplomat. It took me a while, but I finally figured it out: There is an America beyond the Beltway. But Israel on the 1967 lines would be only nine miles wide. So much for strategic depth.
...
And Hamas is not a partner for peace. Hamas remains committed to Israel’s destruction and to terrorism. They have a charter. That charter not only calls for the obliteration of Israel, but says ‘kill the Jews wherever you find them’. Hamas’ leader condemned the killing of Osama bin Laden and praised him as a holy warrior. Now again I want to make this clear. Israel is prepared to sit down today and negotiate peace with the Palestinian Authority. I believe we can fashion a brilliant future of peace for our children. But Israel will not negotiate with a Palestinian government backed by the Palestinian version of Al Qaeda.
So I say to President Abbas: Tear up your pact with Hamas, Sit down and negotiate! Make peace with the Jewish state! And if you do, I promise you this. Israel will not be the last country to welcome a Palestinian state as a new member of the United Nations. It will be the first to do so.
...
I speak on behalf of the Jewish people and the Jewish state when I say to you, representatives of America, Thank you. Thank you for your unwavering support for Israel. Thank you for ensuring that the flame of freedom burns bright throughout the world. May God bless all of you. And may God forever bless the United States of America.

The best thing Obama could do for the people of MO is stay the hell away. I'm sure the last thing they want to deal with is contending with a spoiled, selfish, pampered manchild, and all the security woes that accompany him. Unless he's planning to roll up his sleeves and actually help in the relief effort, he should just sit his ass in the Oval Office and not move a muscle.
Of course, he doesn't think like that. So he'll go, screw up the recovery with his required security demands, and leave the place worse than it would have been if he'd never gone at all.

I don't think one speech is a big deal, though it just builds into this narrative that working with a party to accomplish important goals is secondary to doing whatever he wants.
Independence is great and we need more of it, but it also has to be tempered with building coalitions that allow you to have the political capital to make changes. How many Republicans are going to help him with his amendments when he has basically told them they are all fiscally unserious (Ryan supporters or not) and doesn't want to do the little things that keep coalitions together?

Reading some of the reactions from Israel, in the category of 'you can't please all of the people all of the time', many don't like that Netanyahu threw the pals the bone of 'giving up existing towns (paraphrased), even knowing that the pals will never accept not having Jerusalem divided.
I think that one just never knows what one would be willing to give up for true peace. One thing I do know though is that as long as the pals teach their children that they will enter into be rewarded by their death loving deity if they kill Jews, there is not much hope of a true peace. They might try to pass it off as peace but it will be lipstick on Mohammed's ham sandwich.

Pffft. I'll get upste about it when we get THIS money back.

There are haters everywhere. But once we disolve into a fight about who hates whom and whether it is hate speech we have lost the plot. JEWS in Hollywood: the ones that are accused of putting out anti American propoganda, (even if we agree arguendo that they ARE doing that) are not the same as Isreal, an independant, sovereign nation whom we have supported for more reasons than that there are a lot of Jews living in America. So Paulians need to get a grip on what to support and when and how to decide that. But they will not and he is insignificant to the upcoing race.

They say Obama is some type of brilliant speaker akin to Lincoln? That is laughable. One has to believe in the righteous, uniqueness and fundamental values of the country they represent. Then and only then, can a leader speak with passion, credibility and honesty. Only when one truly believes in the founding principles and values can they be honored, supported and successfully lead.
This finally brought to realization the tremendous dearth of leadership and absence of belief in our combined American values by the current occupant of our White House. He has never spoken this passionately, forcefully or eloquently on our behalf. Never.

And when I see my tax money going to support a People who in mass numbers support the greatest threat to this country in my lifetime - not only with financial support but with Hollywood propaganda and every other way they possibly can... I want to take another look at why we're giving them HUGE sums of money.
If it is any consolation, they are wising up. I am watching it happen. The whole "neo-con" movement is formerly liberal jews who got mugged by reality. The GOP should patiently encourge this trend.
Also understand the the leftist "jews" are basically atheists whose parents or grandparents may hve been Jewish, but themselves haven't seen the inside of a shul since their Bar or Bat Mitzvahs if even .then

American jews, by and large, don't give a fuck about Israel.
Why would I want to fuck over the only functioning democracy in the Middle East because a bunch of left-wing U.S. jews love Barack Obama?

What are those reasons? I'm trying to understand - other than Israel being a Democracy. I agree we should support Democracy wherever we find it. But I don't see why Israel deserves more support than any other Democracy.
Obviously, American Jews don't think America's support is important for Israel - or they wouldn't support Obamunism. So enlighten me and our Jewish friends why they are wrong.
Posted by: sympleton at May 24, 2011 05:18 PM (+zxy/)
Much of what you ask me for here has been stated between your post and now, so I will not repeat it. I agree with the fact that Obama is one of the biggest threats to our nation in our lifetime. (I, too, am 50). The other biggest threat to this country in my lifetime is the Death of the West as laid out by Patrick Buchanan. That involves the Muslims and the middle east is crawling with them....other than Isreal. Jews here simply don't factor into that. I cannot say "if they support Obama against their own people, then let them all twist in the wind." To do so is to deny the chance to have an anchor in the middle east to make a stand....not lose precious ground that is being lost in the EU where the Muslims are simply flooding in. So my support of aid to Isreal achieves what I need it to, not what some American Jews who are not seeing what I am seeing, or who don't care what I am seeing.

The most important thing, as always and of course (you foot-grime seeking, not adept at sexual mating, mentally worth less than Mencken's altruism, struggling harder than I am to write something not totally shitty, asscombobulator) is Palin is, was, and always will be wrong on Israel.
And everything else.
Because she is stupid.
Or, if Ace didn't search for shit on lefty sites, Ace could search for other people (hmmmm.... "people" leaves a lot of opportunities for anyone) who stand stronger with Israel than Sarah Fucking Palin.
Ace's search, perhaps performed, would be unproductive with regards to the current field of candidates in the GOP, but in someone's world, with erroneous confirmation abounding, that don't matter.
The reason is filled with hypocrisy.
