A Conversation with Sean Bielat
— Slublog

Sean Bielat, candidate for Congress in Massachusetts 4th Congressional district, participated in a conference call this evening with a number of bloggers. In 2010, Bielat ran against Barney Frank. Unfortunately, Frank won that race but clearly he was scarred by the experience of actually facing a competent opponent and recently announced his retirement from Congress.

Faced with an empty office in DC, panicky Massachusetts Democrats hit the "DEFAULT" button and scrounged up...a Kennedy. Joseph P. Kennedy, III to be exact. Like Howie says, this is Peace Corps vs. Marine Corps. In one corner, a former Marine, businessman and guy who did build that. In the other, a...guy with a famous name who regards the press the same way a vampire looks at the sun.

In the call, Bielat talked about his commitment to constitutional values, fiscal responsibility and economic growth. He framed this election as a choice between "the visions of government presented by Mitt Romney and those of Barack Obama." He said that Obama has criticized the Paul Ryan plan, but hit the SCOAMF for not offering one of his own.

Bielat's district includes Scott Brown's hometown, so this is a winnable race. He has a chance with independents and Brown voters. What he really needs are the resources to run ads in the expensive Boston media market.

In 1979, Roger Mudd asked one of JoJoJo Kennedy's relatives why he wanted to be president. That interview...did not end well. When asked why he wanted to be in Congress, Bielat had a much better answer.

"I got into this in 2010 because like many Americans I was frustrated with what I was seeing in DC," he said. " My congressman was Barney Frank and he had not had a competitive race since 1982 and I saw we had a chance in the 4th district." Bielat gave Frank the most competition he'd had in years, and now says he's running again for the same ideals, but with much more personal motivation.

"I have a nine month old daughter and a two year old son, so for me this idea of making us sustainable for the next generation is important," Bielat said. "We need to change now and part of the way we do that is send people to Washington who arenÂ’t worried about their next election...I will focus on substantive policy issues. If [Kennedy] wants to talk about issues, I want to have that debate."

Bielat struck me as an impressive, serious guy who can win. His opponent is a Kennedy who's not hurting for funds. To compete, Bielat needs our help. So shake those piggy banks and let's make this happen.

Every time one of you donates, a Kennedy's tears waters down their Chivas. Below, a video that shows the difference between a guy running on the hope that voters like his name, and a guy who is running on actual change. Let's do this, morons.

Doesn't it say something.....remarkable.. about this country that some guy with actually no aptitude or preparation can get a preferred party nomination to run for office just on his .....family name?

I'm always impressed when various people deride "the South" or "the Midwest", or "what's the matter with Kansas?".  And then allegedly 'smart' state like Massachusetts elects John Kerry and Ted Kennedy to Senate term after term.  And then the majority party sends up this .....person... to run for Congress who has done really nothing in his life to indicate he is in the least capable.

What does that say about how smart the voters in Massachusetts really are?

Joe Kennedy Sr. knew what he was doing when he married Rose Fitz.

Her father, Honey Fitz, was the Irish Democrat Kingmaker in Boston. Wedded to his connections and with Kennedy's money (of which he made a lot selling short and helping to  drive down the Stock Market after 1929), he had great plans for his sons, politically.

Fast forward a couple generations and that's all they are good for. They are too stupid and venal to do any honest work.  At least Joe Kennedy Sr. was plenty smart.  Every generation after him just gets dumber.  It's all make-work until they get elected to be a Massachusetts ward-healer.  And that's why the people in that state are just plain stupid for buying into this drivel time after time.

A few details are off. Joe Jr was definitely the heir apparent. He was probably quite driven and was seeking high profile risky missions. John commanded a torpedo boat. He was the lowest rung of the officer corps.

At least when John fucked up and put someone in the drink, he stuck around and tried to save him.

95 You know who wants to slash the military budget to pay for social spending?  No, not Baracka Obama.  I was thinking of Sean Bielat.

You know which GOP candidate has flat-out refused to say that he would support the winner of the primary if it isn't him?  Sean Bielat.

98 You know who destroyed the life of his 2010 primary opponent, Earl Sholley, by spending a bunch of money spreading the rumor he sexually abuses his own mentally challenged daughter?  Sean Bielat did that.

Posted by: Truman North at August 23, 2012 06:32 PM (I2LwF)

99 Thanks, Truman. I won't help Bielat. Let the Kennedy have it. The dumb fuck will step in front of train before long anyway. BTW, MA Republicans like Sarah Palin enough to make dissing her uncalled for.

Sean Bielat isn't the slimiest bastard to crawl out of the mud in the GOP, but he is the least-qualified slimebag running.

Fuck him.  He can't win anyway.

Sean Bielat is a craven sociopath.  I'd rather have Kennedy for two years and then go for the open seat again in 2014 when Kennedy takes over for a retiring John Kerry.

Jesus fucking Christ, I've been banging the fuck out of the morons and cobloggers about this since maybe January.

I worked for Sean in 2010.  I wanted him to win.  I couldn't vote for him since I was in another district prior to redistricting.  But God Almighty, he's a fraud.

Posted by: Truman North at August 23, 2012 06:37 PM (I2LwF)

108 No, I don't have a link for 99.  It's well-known in the MA GOP.  I don't have any of my original research.  I left it with the Steinhof campaign.

Posted by: Truman North at August 23, 2012 06:38 PM (I2LwF)

109

I did my research since I worked for his primary opponent, David Steinhof, for about three months this summer as a chief staffer.

I'm not saying any of this because I worked for Steinhof.  I worked for Steinhof because I knew what Sean Bielat was.

Posted by: Truman North at August 23, 2012 06:40 PM (I2LwF)

Or... I knew a fraction of what Sean Bielat had done.

Anyway, there's much better places to throw your support.  And please, cobloggers, stop pimping this guy.  It's worse than a waste of your time.

122 Full Disclosure. I am a Partner in a firm that works for the Bielat Campaign so take what I have to say for what it's worth. As for Truman North he seems to be a left over from the Earl Sholley Trolly, a group of individuals who trolled Sean mercilessly in the 2010 race. Sean didn't spend a dime attacking Earl Sholley. He didn't have to. Sean beat Sholley 61-38 despite Sholley's greater name recognition from having run multiple times before. Perhaps Truman North is a David Steinhof supporter. Dr. Steinhof is a very nice guy who according to our latest internal polls, Sean Bielat is leading comfortably 59% to 3%. Both Steinhof and Elizabeth Childs, Sean's other primary opponent are polling within the margin of error of having no support at all. The primary is already over. It is Bielat versus Kennedy.

123 If #110 is so well known I am curious why as a Republican Ward Chairman and Treasurer of the Boston Republican City Committee (Yes. We exist) I have never heard these things. So here's why people outside of Massachusetts should support Sean. At a Nancy Pelosi, DCCC co-hosted fundraiser tonight at the Kennedy Compound, they raised hundred's of thousands, if not millions to help defeat Republican candidates nationwide. Help Sean make sure Joe Kennedy has to focus on his race and not be helping Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Again...Full Disclosure. My firm works for Sean Bielat.

124 I don't know who "Truman North" is or what his problem is with Sean Bielat, but his posts are a sack of fucking lies and bullshit jealousy. Sean never attacked anyone's kids. Earl Sholley lost the 2010 primary because he has a RAP SHEET. A really long rap sheet. It's just precious how "Truman" writes all this stuff but doesn't have any links. The FACTS are that Sean is going to win this primary (Steinhof polled at 4% and Sean at over 57% in a 3 way race) and stands a good chance of winning the general. He's been giving great radio interviews locally here in MA adds will be a much better debater than the Baby Kennedy. Go look up Steinhof's press releases yourself. You'll see they're unhinged silliness with a lot of negative ugly attacks on Sean and his staff. A sad bunch of pathetic, jealous losers if you ask me.

If only there were some large, easily searchable database of candidates' prior statements that he could turn to.

It would have to be enormous. Worldwide, even, and possibly organized as some sort of web.

132 I think Sean is a terrific candidate and I did support him in 2010. I'm just not sure this race is the Right's best place to focus. Sean's race seems to be one for the super-PACs to fund. OTOH, I guess we don't have to worry about spending anything on Missouri so...

133 How can we have a Bielet thread without Wicket?

Posted by: Phelps at August 23, 2012 08:37 PM (aO4H/)

134 So you want Joe III to revive the Kennedy dynasty for another 30 years? Yeah he may resign and open this seat up again to take Kerry's seat but then he'll have a political resume and will be unbeatable. Who cares about this seat? We'll keep the House. We need to stop the Kennedys. And the time to stop Kennedys is now when they have a very weak candidate. The only one who can do this is Sean Bielat. Steinhoff is a good man, but he just won't win either the primary or the general so don't beat your head against the wall. Praise him if you will, but don't libel and slander the one who can win - it will make it harder to stop Joe III. This district was redistricted and is much more GOP friendly, but it is still tough for a Republican to win in MA. I am a diehard Palin fan. I worked for Jeff Perry last time and he is the most conservative, but viable candidate who ever ran in MA and he did not take a Palin endorsement. I only voted for McCain because of her and I am not voting for Romney despite Ryan. I will vote for Brown only to get the Senate. If you have any doubt about how conservative Sean is, watch this Brietbart interview done at Erik Erickson's RedState 2012 Gathering http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/08/03/Exclusive-Interview-Sean-Bielat Sean spoke at RedState and Erick introduced him. It is critical to stop a Kennedy dynasty revival; Sean is the only choice. But he needs your financial support. https://secure.piryx.com/donate/oGhlNSk5/Sean-Bielat-for-Congress/morejobs

135 I think that #99 is an effective attack.....IF the charge is true.  If it's not true, it's devastating to the person making the charge.

No middle ground here.  Either prove the allegation or go fuck yourself.  Sources for the rumor would be a good first step, but proof is required eventually.
