Liberal reasoning on gun “control” is so distorted that it makes one wonder about their sanity in general. It’s as if the shooter does not have free will, but the inanimate gun (that requires several mechanical steps to be able to fire at all) has free will and preordains that the shooter take a life (or several lives) to placate the gun. What utter rot!
The real moral issue is whether or not people are allowed to defend themselves against both known and unknowable circumstances. If their self defense is justified, it does not matter if they use a gun or a club to kill an attacker. If there is no self defense involved, it does not matter if they use a gun or a club, they have committed murder.and should be prosecuted.
AtC is spot on here and I for one am glad she had the foresight to understand how to use her Glock as a defensive weapon, rather than allow herself to be disarmed and harmed to prove a liberal theoretical point.

Forget the fact that I'm not even sure the premise is right in the first place, the second one is even stranger.
Who kills out of mere convenience and would stop if it suddenly got harder. Especially crazy people who are doing this almost on a whim.
Let's look at gang violence. There's this idea that Drivebys would suddenly stop. Even if we grant the (insane) idea that some law would prevent the lawless from having guns (again, insane, but for this thought experiment let's go ahead and grant the impossible!) do we think the mass violence would end? Heck, drivebys would just become Molotov throwing events (or other improvised explosives.)
Logic, how does it work again?

I just don't get it. Even if you grant the absurd premises of their arguments (and I do mean absurd!) You still can't possibly reach the conclusions they do. Which is strange. I've argued with a lot of people who believe a lot of crazy shit (heck it's basically my chosen career path.)
Usually it's at least moderately internally consistent (that is I'm forced to attack their premises and assumptions rather than the conclusions itself.)
That's not even remotely the case here. I can grant them the most charitable reading ever (as I did) allow them all their premises as givens (the ability to actually ban guns and stop criminals from getting them, the idea that killing with a gun is easier than say...killing with draino.) EVERY LAST CRAZY ASSUMPTION. And still, the logic just doesn't follow.
It's an argument I can't even reconstruct (which is more rare than you'd think.)

This is one of the things that drives me nuts about collegiate athletics, particularly basketball and football, which tend to be the two "high profile" college sports out there.
Tell me if you're familiar with this refrain: "Why don't we just let college athletes do their endorsements and make money for themselves? What's the big deal? All the money they bring into the university, why NOT let them cash in? It's THEIR talent."
Here's my response: "Because they're already CASHING IN by being in college in the fucking first place! It's called an "athletic scholarship." That's when someone who is a gifted athlete is given a college scholarship that allows them to leverage that athletic ability into a college education. In case you haven't noticed, a single year at a large, high profile university can run upwards of $40,000/year. That's $40,000/year that neither the athlete nor the athlete's family has to pay. That's more than a lot of non-athletes make as a full year's salary. And they complain that they aren't being REIMBURSED for their SPORTSMANSHIP?

Is anyone watching the online only webisodes of Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome? There are 10 eps in total, two eps released every Friday, and only two eps remain until next year (January I think) when SyFy broadcasts all ten together in a row.
I think it's worlds better than the regular series. We're looking at the first human-Cylon war without the bullshit philosophical and religious asshattery contaminating the writing. It's just balls-out action. The young William Adama does a pretty good job and the SFX are decent enough. I'm not complaining. My only regret is that NBC won't carry this through with a full series unlike BSG and Caprica. Too bad, it's pretty good and a lot of other fans think so.

Great post on the small fact that even the smallest chance that you would use your firearm to defend yourself did more to keep you safe than any fear of a restraining order could ever do. Not to mention the fact that you were able to go on with your life rather than being forced to move or change your life in order to avoid his threats.
If Costas really believed in the twaddle flying out his.... uhhmm, mouth, then instead of hiding out in a broadcast booth with no one to challenge or rebut his opinion (outside of a remote control), he would have walked down to the 50 yard line of Texas Stadium and picked up one of their very nice house mics and given that statement with absolutely no security on the field whatsoever to the stadium full of attendees.
In the meantime, I refer you to this news item as to why women should never entrust someone else with their safety and that of our children.

For those who wonder why women get involved with abusive men: It does occur that women have married men who were perfect angels all through courtship and engagement, and the day after they took vows they started channelling their inner house monster.
For women who marry abusive men, knowing their proclivities - likely they witnessed their mothers being abused by their dads or significant others. And the cycle of abuse continues.
Some women, after experiencing domestic violence, believe their partner can change. This does happen, but rarely, because it takes a lot of work on the part of the man. And they usually don't want to change because they have fun beating up on girls.
Usually the only way to permanently free oneself from an abuser is to show the strong hand, as did AlexTC. He needs to know you will cut his throat in his sleep.

SRSLY. What hasn't Gaston Glock thought about a rifle as an addition to his line-up of fine handguns? He's made pistols and shovels, and I think that's about it. Why not rifles?

Actually, he is. Does a lot of good work in the community. But I suppose you're one of the idiots that equates lying to the police with murder. Ray's mistake wasn't lying to the police, it was that he should have had a lawyer do it for him. Ray was never suspected by anyone, police or DA, of harming anyone at all, a point that is intentionally lost on idiots and Stiller fans (BIRM).
