You have to show ID for nearly everything else, but not to vote.  That makes sense.

 

The way O'Keefe et al handled that was very clever.  There's no misrepresentation of identity, there's no attempt to vote, there's no acceptance of the ballot.  I am interested if what the poll worker did was inappropriate.  After all, if there's no requirement to show id, then how is the poll worker supposed to confirm other than taking the person's word for it.

The governor of PA recently signed a voter ID bill into law. It includes college IDs as a valid for of identification but here's the catch: the ID must have an expiration date. Few college IDs do.

You should've read the article I read about it. New York and New Jersey students were caterwauling about how their college ID had no expiration and their drivers licenses wouldn't "cut it".

This is actually how it happened in RI.  A Democratic representative and her daughter had their ballots stolen by someone.  She submitted a bill, and the other Democrats voted for it.

#12 Pennsylvania passed a voter ID law.  It remains to be seen how it will be enforced, but I am hoping the Governor has the stones to do it in Philly.  They haven't cleaned up the voter rolls there in years, and there are solid reports of people being bussed in from New York and Connecticut to vote in the names of people who moved away or died.  There are dozens of precincts where there are more people registered to vote than there are people listed on the Census, and mysteriously these same precincts manage a 100% turnout with 100% of the votes going to the Democrat, in every presidential election.  This is the only reason John Kerry carried PA in 2004.  The question is whether we can find people with the guts to go into some of these inner-city precincts and make sure people are being asked for their ID.

 

I am hopeful in Virginia, because one of my best friends is the new registrar in Fairfax County and she will not put up with any fraud.  It's the biggest county in VA and has trended Democrat in recent years.  If Obama doesn't win it he can't win the state and probably can't win the election.

Not anymore, apparently. Some college administrator commented about how students leave mid-semester or at the end of a semester when the school year doesn't end.

Back in the day lots of colleges just changed the color of the IDs to make the old ones invalid, but the present PA law states an actual expiration date must be on the card. I guarantee their will be tons of court challenges between now and November.

It doesn't matter.  If Voter ID is required- then people who want to cast fraudulent votes have to obtain fake ID.  That's a much harder (and more dangerous, for a variety of reasons) thing to do than just show up and say, "My Name is Eric Holder," for instance.

Requiring ID to drink isn't fool-proof, either, but it's a pretty solid first step.

So what you do (in the interests of limited government) is require Voter ID, and then evaluate if you still have a vote fraud problem, and how to address it at that point.

The closest you get is the phone tapping allegation- and that, too, is a different thing- trying to tap someone's phone-line is an invasion of privacy, among other things.  Walking up to a polling station and saying, "Do you have a ballot for Eric Holder" or "John Paul Jones," or "Yogi Berra," or something like that is different- it's an obvious "punking," and the fact that they're getting offered ballots is a huge embarrassment for the Left.

That's why the Media isn't covering these stings.

My polling place always makes me present ID.  However, the people that live in my neighborhood are actually in the "maker" class.  We have plenty of "takers" in the county, though.  Montgomery County, Ohio, was one of several counties in Ohio that had more people vote during the November 2008 election than there were registered voters!

First off, if there are "clear pockets of voter fraud" then those precincts should be fairly easy to track down- and even easier once voter ID is required.  It would, of course, require Government to want to do something about it... but that will always be part of the problem.

Second- like I said- barrier to entry.  The sheer number of fraudulent votes would go down, decreasing the dilution of "good" votes.

You got it.  Show up with a piece of mail with your name on it.  Only a 28 day residency requirement too.  If you don't have a piece of mail, you can have a friend vouch for you if your friend is a previously-registered voter.

Yup.  I have never understood why opposition to voter fraud is a partisan issue.  Voter fraud is an attack on the concept of democracy itself.  I can comprehend arguing over the best way to combat it but I've had fights with people who seem to believe that any attempts whatsoever to ensure that fraud does not take place are wrong/racist/evil/etc.

 

I would like to see the rules on obtaining absentee ballots tightened.  Either go with the system in Oregon (I think) where everyone votes by mail or make the voter prove they will be absent or cannot get to the polls due to infirmity or other disability. 

 

Don't get me started on the games with military ballots.  It is utterly vile that those ballots are not the very first ones to go out.

I have been saying since I was 18, which is longer ago than I care to admit, that the Boomers are in for a hell of a surprise when Gen X and Y have to start paying for their retirement. Gen X, in particular, has been told our entire adult lives that the Social Security/Medicare collapse is inevitable and then we've watched as Our Betters have done jack shit about it. Even the most hard core Lefty I know is adamant that she will not pay for the retirement the Boomers did not plan for. *The Daley/democratic machine stays in power inspite of its awfulness, mainly on the premise that as democrats and strong enough they can keep the black inner city in line... or at least out of the white areas.  Republicans cant do that.  Those inner city blacks will never submit to Republicans only to democrats.  The far left chicago media would also cover cases of white cops etc.. assaulting blacks riling them up even more.  Where as for a democrat the media smothers the story.  Thats why alot of Chicagoan keep voting Daley... to keep the lid on the kettle.  (this is also how much of the shittier parts of the world works)

*When I used to say step out of Union station I would step over passed out drugged up homeless black people.  Meanwhile rich white people in limos or 100k cars zoom past.  The better intentioned (yet flawed thinker) lefties have this kind of situation in mind with a lot of their screeching.  They dont udnerstand that policy doesn't change the dynamic and neither are either person Representative of all matters large and small.

*Back to the south side, the most disturbing thing of any of it.. is the way nobody there is disturbed by anything.  Often not even glancing over to see, noises from things that traumatize any of us for life.  Again this is the weekend night time crowd.  Daytime crowd is more mixed.  There are some young mothers, old people etc.. out walking around.  still bad stuff.. but yea more like the wire showed it.

I wasn't a cab person back then, but yea I know what you are talking a bout. (I should also mention a fair number of those homeless were whites)  Also, similair such things with window washing etc. to get a tip.  Personally I find such things commendable.

Isn't Union station beautiful?  Part of it felt like stepping into a more civilized past... like going to Wrigley.   Back before people wore pants on the ground and dildos on their heads to parades.  Like many such of mans creations.. too bad its filled with so much ugliness.
