A Note About Loyalty, Obama, and Wisconsin
— Gabriel Malor

President Obama is a selfish, faithless, and soon-to-be friendless embarrassment. Tom Barrett was one of Obama's earliest, most prominent supporters in the Democratic primaries during 2008 cycle. In fact, Barrett presaged Obama's eventual 2008 slogan by declaring in 2007 that Obama was the candidate who would "create hope in this country."

Obama repaid Barrett's early, crucial support by virtually ignoring him during the recall election. Obama made eight visits to Wisconsin after he was elected, and then abruptly stopped visiting once Barrett's campaign to defeat Gov. Walker began and despite repeated overtures from Barrett to come to Wisconsin. The president actually played hopscotch to avoid Barrett last week, hitting both Minnesota and Illinois, but jumping twice over Wisconsin.

At the very last hour, perhaps embarrassed by all the Democrats asking why he had hung Barrett out to dry, Obama tweeted and then emailed some supporters that he was "standing up" for Barrett. He meant he was standing in Illinois, looking vaguely in the direction of Wisconsin and thanking his lucky stars he hadn't associated himself with a losing campaign, I think. Because Obama certainly didn't lend his support---or any campaign money---to Barrett, no matter his late-offered digital protestations otherwise.

As a result of Obama's abandonment of Barrett, Wisconsin Democrats have realized something that we could have told them years ago: Obama is in it for himself and he doesn't really care about anyone else. Wisconsin Democrats are angry and demoralized. Wisconsin Republicans, by contrast, are enthusiastic about beating Obama in a state he took by 14 points in 2008. And the Obama campaign is now saying that Wisconsin is a "toss-up" state. Everyone, Democrats and Republicans, should note that trend.

16 Looks like the Dems won control of the WI senate back (pending a recount). That would appear to freeze Walker's plans to further reform the public unions. Half of their senate comes up for re-election in November - I have no idea what the break down by party is though.

26 Yeah. It's got to be very demoralizing for the local Dems.

Either Obama doesn't think his presence can help, which for that megalomaniac is not likely, or he doesn't want the taint of a lost election to cling to him like a cheap suit drenched in flop sweat.

At some point the realization dawns upon his most ardent followers that that his charisma is mythic and not legendary; that he doesn't take risks and leaves the heavy lifting to surrogates, whom he will happily chide if their efforts fail; and as much of a socialist as he appears, his own self-aggrandizement is the sole purpose of his life's work.

There really should be a sense a betrayal among his followers and although come November they may not be willing to pull the lever for Romney, they will be strongly inclined to sit home because they won't make the mistake of voting for Obama again.

28 WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's presidential campaign says the outcome of the Wisconsin recall election isn't what it had been hoping for.
...

In a statement Tuesday night, the Wisconsin director of Obama's campaign, Tripp Wellde, pointed to a bright spot for Democrats: Exit polls show voters favoring Obama over Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

In spite of Walker's victory, Wellde says the recall election has sent a strong message to Walker about what Wellde calls "the politics of division."

35 Wow.  Even cities in CA are voting to cut state pensions:

Voters in two major California cities overwhelmingly approved cuts to retirement benefits for city workers in what supporters said was a mandate that may lead to similar ballot initiatives in other states and cities that are struggling with mounting pension obligations.

Supporters had a simple message to voters in San Diego and San Jose: Pensions for city workers are unaffordable and more generous than many private companies offer, forcing libraries to slash hours and potholes to go unfilled.

"The public is frustrated," said San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio, a Republican who staked his mayoral bid on the pension measure and advanced to a November runoff in Tuesday's election to lead the nation's eighth-largest city.

In San Diego, 66 percent voted in favor of Proposition B, while 34 percent were opposed. Nearly 97 percent of precincts were tallied by early Wednesday.

The landslide was even bigger in San Jose, the nation's 10th-largest city. With all precincts counted, 70 percent were in favor of Measure B and 30 percent were opposed.

81 This is the top story on the Chicago Sun Times online edition. From the Obama loving hack Lynn Sweet

WASHINGTON — Looking ahead to November, the Wisconsin recall election — triggered by GOP Gov. Scott Walker busting state worker unions — leaves President Barack Obama in better shape than Mitt Romney.

Wisconsin is one of 10 battleground states, and exit polls of Wisconsin voters show Obama at 54 percent to 42 percent for Romney — even though Walker survived the challenge.

The exit polls are upbeat for Obama; some 45 percent said he could improve the economy better than Romney and an important voter group — middle class voters said Obama could help them better.

The top story mind you. Not the Walker win but exit polls look good for Barry. Keep spinning you clowns.

Then only 31% of the union members left came out and voted for Barrett. That makes about 21% of the original union members that voted for Barrett. They're also bitching about the money because the Union didn't have it pouring in with mandatory dues. I enjoy that the dues paying union membership in Wisconsin fell off a cliff when it was no longer mandatory. I think they lost something like 33%.

The numbers I read last night stated that AFSCME lost about 50% of their membership and AFT lost about 1/3. I would bet that total losses for all combined probably were around 1/3. That figure is further proof that this was never about "worker's rights," it was about maintaining a steady stream of union dues and kicking that money back to the Democratic party.

Maybe I am just a hopeless optimist, but I really believe that two simple things would put this country back on the path to solvency: break the public sector unions and fix the voting process. The left can't win without fraud.

Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater at June 06, 2012 04:57 AM (JxMoP)

114 How well did those same exit polls that the left is clinging to this AM predict the election at hand, vice the one coming in five months? Were they not approx. 7 points off (they were saying, "to close to call"), and how does that +6 bode well for BarryO?

The tens of thousands of Kurds who didn't get gassed and the thousands of young girls who never saw Uday and Qusay's rape rooms thank them for their compassion.  Or not.

I'm glad to hear a WI person echo that. I feel better now .  Last night my wife was all confused and "Why are you worried about this state election."  I didn't try to explain it, I just said "Pudding is on the line."

But the preference cascade is coming, even if she can't see it yet.  Onward to November.

And a Salute to Mama Winger, who certainly kept us motivated at the HQ (and I'm sure did stuff in Meatspace too.)

How many more people would have been killed by terrorists if Gore had been President?

195 It's time we got rid of the electoral college. George W. Bush defeated Al Gore with fewer popular votes. Gore got 543,895 more votes than Bush, but Bush won the electoral vote.

In this day and age, it's really beyond ridiculous to let the electoral vote method of electing presidents continue. Do we want to be honest and fair in our elections or what? Lots of people who died in Iraq would most likely still be alive today if Gore had been President.

These people are citizens of the world.  States rights mean nothing.

Also, what Heather said.

How about, NO.  Better than NO, a big fat "Go fuck yourself!" No.

Listen, I live in Fly over country.  Do you know the only reason national politicians give 2 fucks about me? Because my state has 11 electoral votes, which is slightly disproptionate to it's population. (Not by much, but by enough.)  For some states (especially more sparsely populated ones) this effect grows.

I don't know what the founding fathers intended when they designed the electoral college, but they stumbled upon something great, a system that equalizes the power distribution between the large coastal population centers and the much more spacious, but sparser populated "middle country."  You ditch the electoral college and I'll request that the middle of the nation form it's own damned country.

Mama winger: Prayers just said for your boy and his fellow brothers keeping us safe. Thank him from our family in Floriduh. And tell them we are just priming for the battle in November. I am more than ready to get this done.

Probably not that many- I'm sure Gore would have surrendered to them and declared Sharia law before it got to that point.

After all, going back to the Middle Ages would probably reduce our national carbon footprint.

202 Our great President has 49 other states to look out for. He was busy. He shields us against the entire world, and he trusted the people of Wisconsin to do the correct thing.

They did not. In a more perfect world, they would be punished for this.

Your best evah, Gabe.

Tho now in Minnesotastan, Ms. B's 6th lacunae of normalcy, grew up in Waukesha and most of my family remain.

I'm so proud.  We will fight for a fighter not a triangulator.

The GOP's only hope is rebirth out of WI.

50% and 33% drop out numbers will increase...some of the districts pushed their union contracts through before the Walker law took effect, so many still cannot opt out.  Wait until those contracts expire, more bloodletting!

206 Interesting that the poll numbers that are purported to show Obama leading Romney include all the frauds (119%??!!) who traveled across state lines. They can't do that in November because we all vote on the same day. If you deduct the cheaters that can't be in two places at once and the MOE between the exit polls and the result, Romney is ahead in Wisconsin.

Posted by: Fussy at June 06, 2012 07:04 AM (Y/2U4)

207 Obama destroyed his party by Obamacare, Stimulus, etc. They lost in historic proportions in 2010. And now he will go down in November.

My own personal metric is the Insider Repudiation. Today Larry Summers joined Cory Booker, Bubba Clinton, Deval Patrick, and several others to put down the current occupant of the WH, whom they obviously view as a "selfish, faithless, and soon-to-be friendless embarrassment." And a temporary occupant.

It's pretty bad when your friends hate you as much as your enemies do.

OW it's a joyous day. America is coming back!

It's his cohost singing "the communists lost their ass again" and whatnot to the tune of "happy days are here again". While that might (emphasis on might) sound funny on paper, I find that it makes my ears bleed and is annoying as hell. But he is Glenn's best friend and all, so I suppose he lets him do it so he feels useful and loved. 210 One great way to completely demoralize Democrats is to point out that the country would have been much better off if the Democrats had chosen Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama. Say it even if you really don't mean it. It's a complete diss of Obama and will cost him plenty of votes.
