Merry Merry Horde! About to sit down for turkey dinner nom nom nom.
Yum. We're still waiting on the buttermilk for pancakes for breakfast. Tonight, however, will be a ham with homemade glaze.

Meh, her lips are too overplumped.
Kind of looks like someone smashed her in the mouth with a waffle iron. A hot waffle iron.
The rest of the image is pretty tasty looking though.

There's big chunks of rural America that don't have it today, and won't for many decades to come. DTV and Dish prevail in those areas.

Two of my presents (purchased with money from in-laws) are a ceramic fondue pot, that we used for cheese fondue for dinner last night and will use for chocolate desert tonight, and a cast-iron Korean barbecue pan that fits over a stove burner that I'll be trying out in about 15 minutes. Yes, I am turning my kids in to foodies (although I try to make sure they're familiar with and can appreciate "normal" food as well).
Yes we are doing very well. We've had "six days of Christmas" here since Middlest Kidlet was diagnosed with flu so I decided to quarantine us until we could be sure no one else was sick. Thankfuly it was only a mild case, and Son was only slightly ill as well, but it meant missing a couple Christmas parties they'd been looking forward to so I wanted to give them a treat to cheer them up. I did tell them though that this will *not* be a tradition.

Of course, we live in a fraudulent world when bankers can "lease" gold for accounting purposes.

I have a few copper pots and pans, but the bottoms aren't flat and we've had electric glass top stoves in the last few houses.
Should get the kids to polish them and put them on top of the cabinets or something.

Well I don't know about a "good" bulgogi recipe, but there's one that came with the pan, which I got at World Market (my new addiction that I had to *drag* the kids into and then *drag* them out again once they got a look inside) for all of $19.00.
We were almost out of soy sauce and I forgot to get any when we went to the store yesterday so my marinade is a tiny bit of soy sauce, some oyster sauce for richness, cherry jelly for sweetness, red pepper flakes for heat, and rice wine vinegar for acidity.
The recipe that came with the pan is
1.5-2 lb thinly sliced sirloin or flank steak
1/3 C soy sauce
2 1/2 TB white sugar
1/4 C chopped green onions
2 TB minced garlic
1/2 tsp minced garlic
2 TB sesame oil (optional)
1 TB rice wine
1/2 tsp ground black pepper

I don't think there really is a "set" burning temperature. Since the ratio of gas to air can be adjusted to get a hotter flame, and different parts of the flame are hotter. If it helps natural gas is mostly methane.

Other than the lack of sleep, I'm having a pretty good Christmas.
Fell asleep on the couch after midnight, having had to wait until the kids stopped bouncing off the walls before we could put the gifts out.
Woke up around 1am when the weather radio went off. Was so groggy and confused that I decided not to go in the bedroom because I didn't know what the heck that crazy man was doing setting off alarms in there. Fell back to sleep in a recliner.
Next thing I know the kids are up and happy it's morning.
4:30am.
Back to bed for them, and I'm back to the couch. Hear a distant loud noise and can't sleep wondering what it was. Twas the start of a thunderstorm that lasted until afternoon.
Couldn't sleep between the kids "whispering" in their room, the thunder, and the cat. Kitty found her present of a food bowl with some treats in it and unwrapped it herself.

Melt/pound the shavings back into the hole(s). Gold is one of the few metals that's "self healing" when you pound on it.
The only way to be sure there's no dispersed contaminants, like Tungsten BB's or bits of wire is to beat/roll it out to the micron range thickness of gold leaf. Then even some finely milled Tungsten dust contaminant will make its way to the surface where it could be chemically or optically detected.
There's no so many gold bars on the planet that this couldn't be accomplished in a matter of weeks in a specially designed validation facility.

And as a clarification to what I said above, density is a non relevant property because the density of W and Au are, within the sensitivity of typical radiographic techniques, the same here. The only utility of radiography here is to detect subsurface geometric artefacts of the counterfeit manufacturing process."

5180-5400.
I'm thinking a finely milled Tungsten contaminate distributed throughout the core would defeat this method if the counterfeiter didn't get too greedy.
You could probably contaminate the core in (guessing) the low single digits percentage range without detection.
This may already be happening with clever counterfeiters who don't want to get caught. Its always the greedy criminals who get caught.

We all adore World Market, but since it's over half an hour away (and always cost me a fortune) I try to keep visits to only a couple times a year. The kids got most of their stocking stuffers, and even some grandparent presents, there and I got pretty much everything that wasn't a Kindle book of my own presents.
We haven't done Korean barbecue before so I'm a little nervous. I'd promised the kids to try to grill a steak for Christmas if the weather was good and I figured this way it wouldn't matter what the weather was like outside.
If you do decide to visit World Market, see if you can make it a couple day trip and I'll take you to the one at Boone Crossing where we go and you can stay with us.

A clever counterfeiter could punch out more plebeian $25-$50 valued pennies and never get close scrutiny.
A retired NYPD detective told me a story about some mobster he knew who owed him some money for getting his daughter out of a jam. The wise guy took him down into his basement and there was a 55gal drum full of rolled pennies and he tossed the cop a roll as payment. They were counterfeits, but good ones.

It's made with either an enzyme starter or a combination of fresh whey (easy to make) and sea salt. Just chop up the vegs and pound real well, then mix in whey and salt and keep pounding. Put into wide-mouth quart jars and let sit around on the counter a few days. Refrigerate. It's best after six months, but I usually can't wait that long.

When we built this place, we plumbed it for Propane (in the sticks so no Nat-Gas).
We even put a quick-disconnect on the deck for the grill.
The Whirlpool range came set-up for Nat-Gas, so had to take it apart and replace all the jets with smaller ones, as Propane burns much hotter.
It's still too freakin' hot. You can't simmer anything. It's going to boil, or it's off.

In the past 24 hours we've gone from being The Marx Bros Group to an all purpose laxative.

They're getting even more shrill. I got one on Twitter.
Even they hedge their "known facts" with language indicating they still aren't really sure what's going on.
And a really dirty secret, their statements focus on industrial output, but they put all organic matter in the mix. They even argue that the melting of arctic ice will lead to a feedback.
In reality, their only solution is going to be population reductions and they're so fanatical you can bet it won't be voluntary. It's just that the population reduction movement was so discredited.

All of it.
The answers are known, there's no need for more science, it's all public policy now.
So we should devote spending that money on something else.

The Goracles are a deluded fanatical bunch. No matter how much the evidence points against them they will continue the cause. It's what gives them a cause to believe in. ELF, PETA and the like are all the same. "Revolutionaries" looking for a reason to vent their frustrations. Perhaps they should colonize the moon and then we can cut off the funding for more space exploration for five years and start again.
