ABC News: Cops, Witnesses Back Up George Zimmerman's Version of Events

How on earth can the prosecutor maintain a murder 2 charge in the face of obvious reasonable doubt?

And it's at least reasonable doubt. It could be clear and convincing evidence that he's telling the truth.

Two police reports written the night that George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin said that Zimmerman had a bloody face and nose, according to police reports made public today.
The reports also note that two witness accounts appear to back up Zimmerman's version of what happened when they describe a man on his back with another person wearing a hoodie straddling him and throwing punches.
In addition, Trayvon Martin's father told an investigator after listening to 911 tapes that captured a man's voice frantically callling for help that it was not his son calling for help.
The new information is part of a trove of documents released by the Florida State Attorney today in the case against Zimmerman, who is charged with second degree murder for the Feb. 26 killing of Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African American male.

With the ever-increasing absurdity of this Murder 2 case, I'm really not going to be surprised if it comes out one day that Rick Scott, the prosecutrix, the police, and GZ and his legal team all agreed to go ahead with this kabuki dance in order to keep the state and nation from burning. In exchange, GZ gets police protection forever, a house in Idaho, an undisclosed sum of money, and a player to be named later.

Hell, it makes just as much sense as everything else I've heard about this case in the media.

In what world was that man allowed to pass the bar? He can barely speak English, much less craft a legal argument. Hell even Jeffrey Toobin kicked his ass on CNN and Toobin wasn't evening interviewing him (he asked one clarification question and the guy got all tongue tied about "Trayvon fighting for his life." Toobin just keep saying "Evidence? There needs to be Evidence." And I think Toobin was inclined to agree with him.)

93 There's a very circumstantial case that Trayvon was acting out of self-defense. That he saw this guy watching him, following him, saw the gun perhaps, felt threatened and acted to defend himself from the nut in the rain with a gun following him. Still the Murder 2 charge doesn't fit and the circumstantial, speculative nature, practically ensures reasonable doubt. But it's the only argument I can see the prosecutor offering.

"Hey, we'll throw it on the wall in front of a jury, see if it sticks." THAT is the real standard. The only way to avoid the jury trial is if the judge grants a Motion for Immunity at a "stand your ground" hearing. That is a very real possibility in this case. But it will be the judge's call.

1) It was dark and raining, the idea that Trayvon saw the gun is just ludicrous.
2) Zimmerman stopped following Martin and stood in roughly the same spot for something like 90 seconds. More than enough time for Martin to have gotten home.
3) He verbally challenged Zimmerman before he attacked him (this hasn't been "proven" but it is part of Zimmerman's account- which we believe because everything he's said that can be proven has been proven true), not something you do to someone you're afraid is going to attack you- let alone shoot you.

I'm not a lawyer, but everyone coming up with the circumstantial argument that Trayvon was acting in self defense is doing it wrong.

That argument works if you're trying to get Trayvon off an assult charge (since it could be argued it provides reasonable doubt.) Said argument doesn't convict anyone. Even if you use it to tie into motive it doesn't help you. There's plenty of reasonable doubt in this case to let Zimmerman off, so what does it matter what possible motives Trayvon had in an actual court. (In the court of "public opinion and race baiting" I imagine it matters tons. Good thing we don't try shit there.

There has been not one single semi-reasonable person either involved with or commenting on this case who has stated that GZ had his pistol drawn either before or right when he was struck and subsequently beaten. In fact, GZ carried his tiny little PF9 in a belt holster - concealed. TM didn't know GZ had a gun until GZ managed to get it out of his holster while under attack.

All this reactionary thinking that GZ was some hopped-up racist John Wayne brandishing a palm-sized gun and stalking poor 'lil Trayvon is sheer fantasy. They all seem to think that the mere act of wearing a gun on your person is an aggressive, racist statement.
